*Did this fix your Amazon Alexa Echo device Wi-Fi Connection? Did something else work your you?*
Nope.. my echo dot won’t connect to internet. Wifi works, everything works but it won’t connect. I’ve tried everything you have showed me.. it’s been like this for a few days now
Did you do a factory reset on your device?
@@SimplySmart123 we’ve reset everything.
That is strange. I would contact Amazon echo Support to see if they can help you. It could be a hardware issue that they may need to replace the unit.
@@Kazwens hey guys, I have the same issue. I cant connect to my wifi on the initial set up. If you know how to fix it please help :c
Generally helpful, I changed my router, and the thing I did wrong was not clicking "no". Thanks man!
You are very welcome!
Within the first 5 seconds of your video I knew exactly what I needed to do to fix my Alexa, thank you.
Great! Glad I could help!!
Thank you! It was using my mobile data and wasn't working due to that!
Awesome! I’m glad I could help you out.
very helpfull but the usual "try and error" technique usualy never fails but it
You can always do a factory reset and it should work. If it does not you may have a hardware issue or a network issue.
Try holding the speak button till in setup mode. Then hold it again to get out of setup mode. Works
Hi SimplySmart123, I have an Echo8 in my living room and an Echo5 in my bedroom. Both are connected to Wifi, yet on my phone app, Alexa shows the Echo8 as online and the Echo5 as offline!? Both units are working fine. Is this correct? Thanks in advance.
If they are both working then none of them are off-line. I had an issue similar to this where I couldn’t change a setting on a device and what I had to do is uninstall the app on my phone and then reinstall it. That fixes the issue. So you might try that and see if the app then shows the correct status.
Thanks for your prompt reply 👍
You can also unplug and replug the one that showing the incorrect status. But it sounds like it’s an app issue to me.
@@SimplySmart123 I think what has happened is.... I had the 5 in my living room, I then purchased an echo 8 and moved the 5 to my bedroom. I renamed the 5 as bedroom and all is well. The app remembers the 5 as living room as well, so it's an empty title (no device) I just can't delete the empty title from the app. It's no big deal. Thank you for your advice 👍
Glad you got it figured out!!
This video was so helpful, my Alexa is no up and running. Thank you.
Great! Happy Holidays!
What happens if the Amazon Alexa app doesn’t allow you to enter your regular account information so that You can troubleshoot your Wi-Fi connection in order to move through your problem when Echo Dot will not connect?? Thank you
I would uninstall the app and then reinstall the app. Sometimes that fixes strange issues like this.
Thank you
You are very welcome!
Thank you... my alexa has not been connecting to wifi and customer service def doesn't work. I have avs other alexa version though
I hope you got it working!
It's almost been one year since we used our (2) Echo Dots. Both were working fine until we changed the wifi network name & password. Since then, both Echo Dots have had the same problem, cant connect to wifi. We've talked to a customer rep twice and they say its an internet issue. I called AT&T and they say its the device. When I open the Alexa app, the old network name is still stored and I've always assumed that to be the issue. Now, I'm now seeing a lot of people are having issues. Im going to try turning off my cellular data and see if that helps, doubt it will tho.
Two things you can try is a factory reset on your echo devices and also uninstall the Alexa app and then reinstall the Alexa app and see if that fixes the problem.
@@SimplySmart123 So we were able to fix it last night. First, I connected to my hotspot, and it worked just fined. Then, I signed into my AT&T account and searched all devices using WIFI. For whatever reason, our echo dots were under the previously used devices and labeled blocked. I unblocked both devices and now they are working fine. Im relieved both devices are working and feel a little silly because I didnt check the AT&T home manager before now. Thanks for your advice.
That’s a great tip! I will definitely tell people to do that in the future if they are having issues. Thanks for your update! Enjoy your echo devices.
@@jacquepegram I'm so glad we came across this!!! We had no idea why our two Echo Dots stopped working in our office and it was because they were also blocked somehow! Thanks!!!
Glad you got it figured out!
Thanks 😊
You are very welcome!
I am living in the accomodation which is an openwifi like mall. Couldn't able to connect with WiFi. But work properly when I try to connect with my mobile hotspot. Why is it like that? Is Alexa needs the router nearby for connecting? Please reply
I recently tried to connect to an hotel wifi and it didn't work very well. These is because of security reasons. The best is to connect to local wifi in your home.
Thank you! I just had to unplug my Echo and plug it back in. Easy fix!
You are very welcome! It has been happening a lot at my house lately. Hopefully they will find a fix for this permanently.
Glad that's all you has to do. We have three and they haven't worked for like eight months.
Have you tried to factory reset?
@@SimplySmart123 yes. But I finally worked on it last night and fixed it.
Great!
I’ve literally tried multiple solutions from multiple videos, it keeps saying “echo dot cannot connect to your WiFi or when I do the other method (Bluetooth turned off) it tells me that my password is incorrect which it isn’t. I’ve reset my router, unplugged my echo dot several times, tried connecting via my computer and laptop, and I’m starting to think the echo dot isn’t for me. I’ve had no problems setting up my tv, computer, PlayStation and Xbox, and my fridge but this is the one that gives me problems.
I used my phones personal hotspot and it connected within seconds. Is there something wrong with my internet? I’m out of ideas on how to fix it.
Well that is strange. It sounds like your home Internet is somehow not excepting the Echo onto your Network. I might contact Echo Support and see if they can help you. You already confirmed that the echo device is good but why will it not connect to your network?
@@seabeans4165 I didnt think about using my hotspot. Ill try that next. When speaking to support, they say its my internet, even though it was working previously, before I changed my network name.
Did you find a solution? Same problem here
@@aliatwi3360 unfortunately not, I tried everything and had no luck. Ended up selling it to a friend and go figure it worked for him.
Hello, when I plug my dot it and I tell Alexa to play something it will start talking and shut off mid word. Then restart. And it keeps doing that. Do u think its just broken and I should get a new one?
That is strange. I would definitely contact Amazon Echo support because that’s not normal.
Thank you! All I had to do was move my Alexa near my Wi-Fi.
Great! Easy fix then.
When I reset the echo it connects to the WiFi just fine, than 5 minutes later it is not longer connecting to the WiFi. I tried both the 2.4 GHZ band and the 5 GHZ band of my WiFi network. I have a 1GB fiber connection running an ASUS AI Mesh network. We have an Echo dot in every room and an Echo show in two rooms. Don't think it's the network since we have an Echo wall Clock running next to it that runs just fine.
Does your ISP provider limit the number of devices that can be connected to the network at one time?
@@SimplySmart123 I did your recommendation and did a factory reset, and it seems to be working now. On my router I am limited to 128 devices, and have anywhere from 19 to 27 devices on the network at one time. Thank you for your help.
Great! Glad you got it working!!
none of these worked its like the tower I have (1st Gen) just doesnt send out a bluetooth signal at all any other suggestions
Might be time to upgrade. Wait until they are on sale for prime day and get the 3rd generation.
Can we use another mobile hotspot sir pls reaply
Yes. You should be able to use a mobile hotspot to connect your device. Just realize that once you leave the connection will be lost.
Hi, I bought an echo dot 5 and when triyng to set it up, the configuration get stucked in the 'Searching for WiFi' screen, amazon has replaced the echo dot 2 times so I have tried all this steps with 3 different devices and all of them have the same issue but I also have an Echo Show 8 working fine in the same house with the same wifi.
I have tried with both networks (2.4 GHz and 5GHz), updated the alexa app to the latest version (2.2.572798.0), set up from different devices (iphone 12 and iphone 15), reset the alexa, reset alexa to factory settings, plug it and unplug it, reset mi wifi and all you explained in your video and still doesn't work, do you have any idea of what else could it be?
Maybe the number of devices on your wifi is too great? Are you using the hardware from your internet service provider or your own hardware?
@@SimplySmart123 It's hardware from the service provider (COX) but I've also tried disconnecting all the other devices and still alexa is not working
It could be interfering from led bulbs or microwaves maybe some so thanks bro
You’re very welcome!
Surely if your watching this video the WiFi in your house must be working?
Not if you’re using cellular data on your cell phone.
@@SimplySmart123 trying to be oversmart?
Each situation is different.
If you don't know how things can connect to the Internet (hint there's more than one way) don't comment. Other people might think you know what you're talking about.
@@raghavkansal3765 trying to display your non existent sense of humor?
I cannot connect to the WiFi? Do I need to reset my echo dot? This is brand new device. Please help!
It's possible.
I normally just unplug and plug it back in.
That will fix most issues and it’s fast and easy!
Is throwing it an option?
Sure! But it will not fix the issue.
Having problems with my echo dot gen 3 I have tried everything disconnected my internet, unplugged the echo waited 30 minutes left it plugged in for 30 minutes and all mine keeps doings is saying it’s in setup mode blinks orange and then says wifi isn’t connected go to the Alexa app for help and is blinking purple. Please help
I would try to do a factory reset and start all over
@@SimplySmart123 I tried to reset it and it does then says setup mode and just blinks purple again
That is strange. You might want to reach out to Echo support with Amazon and see if they can fix this problem for you. It should be free and they should be able to fix it.
@@SimplySmart123 I did go on a chat with them but they weren’t much help
What the heck? Are they going to give you a new one?
Thanks a lot, turning off the cellular of my phone and connecting home wifi only make it work.
Great!
Hello my question is how do I set up my Amazon Alexa device using the hotspot from my cell phone device
Sorry let me clarify better, I need to use the hotspot on my cell phone in order to provide a Wi-Fi connection to the Amazon echo device
I think it is possible but it’s not easy. You might need a 2nd phone to complete the setup. Once setup it will be a fragile setup unless your hotspot is always on and never leaves.
Bro help me when gi to connect my alexa with wifi in paring mode it disconnect and shows violet light I reset it but same problem please help me
I would do a factory reset and also power cycle your router.
So basically I have an echo dot. Same as yours. It worked perfectly fine! Until 2months my mom changed the Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi password completely. And now it’s not connecting. I’ve tried restarted the Wi-Fi box. I’ve tried unplugging it. I’ve enter the Wi-Fi multiple times! With the correct name and password but it’s still saying “incorrect” password or “error, retry”
I would do a factory reset on your go device. Then start fresh with the set up.
I got out of youtube and went on google Chrome to test if my wifi is working like you said
Great!
Took me hours to figure out that one of my Access Points (NOT a router) were the reason my echo could not connect. If you have any access points unplug them, reset your router and try again. (leave the access points OFF)
Sometimes even Alexa gets confused.
What is a access point ?
It's like a separate wifi using your primary wifi.
@@SimplySmart123 ??? lol Guess I will look it up.
Look what up?
What if the WiFi that I use is the WiFi that is given at the apartment desk?
If you were using a public Wi-Fi it may work for some functions but you will not get the full functionality of your echo device.
@@SimplySmart123 ok thx but I figured out the problem and it’s connected thanks for the help
Awesome! I am glad that you got this working and now you can enjoy everything that Alexa has to offer.
@@SimplySmart123 thank you 😊
Easier fix is to just unplug and plug in the echo dot. No need to configure through the Alexa app. This is what fixed it, and not going through the Alexa help or first install. This is what happened to me, YES restart the echo.
It’s in the video but I wanted to cover all of the possible issues!
The steps are basically the same except for the Reset. But check out my reset video for the links to other devices. You can also forget the network and try to connect again. A little easier with a screen.
did not work for me. I was looking to setup a new echo dot and having wifi issues
A new one should be easy to connect. What is it saying?
@@SimplySmart123 mine is saying that the password is wrong
Try the same password on your phone and see if it works. Just forget your wifi network and then reconnect.
@@SimplySmart123 still didn't work

I will try a factory reset and if that does not work contact Echo support.
I can't get my echo hooked up to wifi, keeps saying not connected
Did you follow the steps in the video?
Mines I master reset I wifi won't connect ! At all my router is good password right won't let me log in smh help
I would contact Echo support. Also you may want to check to be sure that the IP address of your device is not being blocked somehow.
It doesn't even prompt me for a wifi password , just says it has not been set up. On my Amazon account under devices it's grayed out where it says delete saved network passwords
You might try a factory reset on the device
Amazon told me echo will not find a WiFi that is 5Ge. They said I need to change to a 3.6 giga Hertz network. I asked Amazon if they could tell me how to do this and they told me to call AT&T. AT&T said it's a Amazon issue? When I asked if they could tell me how to change the router to a 3.6 giga Hertz network, they said it would slow the speed. I tried your suggestions for trouble shooting and the echo dot does not list my network.
My echos work fine on the 5 Ghz network. You should have the option of dual band WiFi. 2.4 GHz and 5.0
@@SimplySmart123 Thanks for the advice. I'll call my ISP again to see if they'll show me how to switch to 2.4 GHz.
I have a dual band and its giving me connection issues any solution?
I have a tri band and don’t have any issues. I would try to connect to the 2.4 GHz signal as it can travel further and echo devices don't need a ton of speed.
Mine spins blue and white and wont respond buttons or voice. 3 days I’ve been trying to reset it.
Be sure you are using the right combination of buttons for your device.
My issue / if anyone can help/
I’m just trying to change it to a different WiFi in my house, but when I follow the directions in the app, for this specific one, it will not show the Wi-Fi that I need to connect to. It just stays connected to the old one. (which still works by the way, but I want to change it to a different Wi-Fi in my house.)
- if anyone has any suggestions or help, it would be greatly appreciated🙏🏼
Probably do a factory reset and hopefully it should show you the Wi-Fi network that you want to use. Make sure that you’re Wi-Fi is strong enough to connect to in that location.
@@SimplySmart123 thanks so much responding - and also for responding so quick. /// much much appreciated my friend 🙏🏼
My wifi after entering the password takes me to another page to enter some extra details like my Apt number etc. I don't know if that's why my echo dot isn't connecting to the internet. It's connecting to my laptops hotspot but not my wifi. :(
You should be able to tell the difference between your networks by the name. Make sure that you are connecting to your primary Internet. It’s possible is asking for your location so it can give you the weather forecast etc.
@@SimplySmart123 I now know why, echos can't connect to ad hoc or peer to peer networks. I'm renting an apartment rn and they don't have a main router here. So I believe it's peer to peer.
Ah yes. You must own your internet.
I cant connect my echo
Did you complete all the steps.
unistall the app helps bettter
Great point. Uninstalling the app and reinstalling it can fix some strange issues also.
My echo dot stopped working... I'm in vain now...!!!! did you reach out to Echo’s support? It’s possible they would replace your device or give you a discount on a new device. It just depends on what is wrong with the device.
GMorning the echo 2nd generation still not connecting
You might try to contact echo support if none of these things worked.
Just purchased my Amazon Alexa, my WIFI is not not even showin when Alexa displays the available WiFi but when I manually set you connecting to default Amazon WiFi, while still connected to the default Amazon WiFi I put in my password,it does not go through but when I connect my iPhone to the my WiFi it’s take a long time to connect but it does not connect.

My echo show 5 has been like this for months now. It’s like it no longer recognizes my home Wi-Fi. I took it to Starbucks and it works perfectly but it just won’t connect, even right next to the router
Make sure it didn't get added to a blocked list.
@@SimplySmart123 how do I do that?
It would be in the settings of your router. Every router is different. If you are using the equipment from your Internet provider you could contact them and ask them to take a look.
I recently wanted to change my wifi settings in Alexa app. So, as the step goes:
I switched the Alexa to setup mode and then followed the screen instructions.
But, After selecting my device in the setup mode and then it takes us to the next slide i.e., SEARCHING FOR WIFI CONNECTION. An unexpected error shows up in the screen and then a purple colour on the Alexa starts to blink. Please help me, trust me i have repeatedly tried to connect but the result is always the same.
Maybe try a factory reset on your device. You will not lose anything. It will connect to the cloud we’re all of your data is stored and he just like it was before.

Another tip would be to create a static IP address with your router and your amazon device.
That is a good one but since everyone’s setup varies so much it would be hard to demonstrate.

Your video is pretty good, but this device is a nightmare. I couldn't get it to connect to my WiFi despite trying everything.
It’s most likely a network problem but if you still can’t get it to connect contact Echo support and they should be able to help you. If there’s a hardware issue with the device then they would have to arrange a replacement.

How many SIMPLETON videos must one watch until we get past the "Is it plugged in" stuff. Our wifi was upgraded to add 5g and it the 1st gen Echo hasn't worked since. All kind of other devices have NO problem. One would think Amazon would be sending out notices about dealing with the expected issues, But NOOOOOOOOO. My Alexa app doesn't even look like the app in some videos so right out of the gate its over.
It might be time to update your echo device. It’s possible it’s not compatible with the new Wi-Fi standards. The relatively cheap and Amazon prime day is coming up!
@@SimplySmart123 Exactly what Amazon would like when it isn't necessary . Answer found after way too many hours researching. Wifi Must be 2.4g if you dont see it contact provider to separate it, Unbundle from 5g signal. Turn off Bluetooth on phone.. Start over. TA-DA, Guess what ? Amazon did Not provide the solution. Another Echo owner on Help did. Shame on Amazon for not knowing and sharing this.
@DoctorDification the newer devices can connect to either 5G or 2.4 so it’s not an issue on those. But I guess the older ones are locked into 2.4. usually, if you have both the device will automatically connect to the correct Wi-Fi.
not enoigh smart to config by your self how bad this shit is mad like da hell
