  • For the most part, your Amazon Echo devices are always ready and are waiting to help you but once and a while you might ask Alexa a question or tell her to do something and you might get a response something like this “I am having trouble connecting to your network. Please check the help section of the Alexa app.”

    As long as you have not changed your Wi-Fi setting and other Wi-Fi devices are working fine you most likely just need to unplug your Amazon echo device and plug it back in and it will fix itself. So if you have that issue just try that simple fix first to save a lot of time and frustration!

      @@SimplySmart123 I'm getting to the part where I select the wifi network and pit in the password. It keeps saying it can't connext and to go to help to troubleshoot (which doesnt at all give any info on how to fix this)

      Majin Spectre did you verify that your internet is working (try using another WiFi device to test) in your home and did you restart your echo device?

      @@SimplySmart123 I really do appreciate that I had an error when i first tried it myself and it gave me a number to call and they tried to charge me $149 to take control of my cpu and set it up for me...didn't fall for that....lol thanks to you it's all good.

    Yay, way to go, reboot the device. Who would have thought of that! For those of us that already tried the obvious and it is still not working we will look elsewhere!

      If this doesn’t work you can try a factory reset. You may also try to reset your router. Good luck. Hope you get it solved!

    If you have a newer router try turning off wifi 6 or wifi ax when trying to connect a 3rd gen. After hours of trying I tried this and it worked!

    Wow. This really helped me. I was struggling with my Ultimate Ears MegaBlast device which was working fine some time back. But all of sudden, it stopped working. It was connected to wifi. I had tried everything. Reset Megablast, Alexa, Modem, restarted everything nothing worked. I stumbled upon this video and boom.....!! Thanks Mate!

    I HAD THIS ISSUE I REGISTERED, DE REGISTERED RESET AND SPENT HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH AMAZON. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WORKED I DECIDED TO CALL MY INTERNET PROVIDER THE ISSUE WAS IT WASNT LETTING IT CONNECT TO INTERNET ON THEIR END HE HAD TO GO IN AND CONNECT IT ON FOR ME. SAVE YOURSELF SOME TIME AND CALL YOUR CABLE/INTERNET COMPANY AND ASK THEM TO CONNECT IT. GOOD LUCK

      After I had my ISP come in and swap out my wifi modem it worked perfectly. Not sure why but it worked.

    interestng! Another problem with the network connections. We have Alexa already installed and are going to install DOTs as well so this was helpful. We have been trying to install smart light bulbs but have a problem connecting to network, like this DOT example. Do smart lights need to connect to a Amazon Network? While following written instructions many times we cannot get the lights connected, cannot find network. Using our own home network wirelss connection? Using Fiete and SAudio lights, both fail to connect do to finding the network. I do not know if we already have an Amazon Network to assign?

      You would just connect the lights to your WiFi network. Once on the network they may be able to be used by other network devices but you may need to install the skill for Alexa to have the ability to control. You will need to be sure they are compatible also. Some smart devices only work with their own app.

      Sometimes the easiest fix is the best one. When it comes to computers and other electronics a restart is the best option in most cases.

      The same happened to me because that was not the issue. I assume you have restarted it by unplugging the device and if that didn’t help you will need to try a factory reset.

    I fixed it by calling amazon and giving them DSN number on the back. They registered the device and it worked

    Took me hours to figure out that one of my Access Points (NOT a router) were the reason my echo could not connect. Even though I was NOT trying to get the Echo to connect to them. If you have any access points unplug them, reset your router and try again. (leave the access points OFF)

      Yes. As long as your network has not changed a simple restart should fix the issue. If the restart doesn’t help you may need to do a reset to factory defaults.

    I have done this I know 15 times to no avail. I have the 2nd generation Alexa (the tall one). I even took a paperclip 📎 and on the bottom of the Alexa device stuck the unfolded paperclip to completely reboot it. Again, to no avail. It should be noted that I had Frontier Cable and Alexa worked perfectly. The day I switched over to Spectrum was when my problems began and Alexa has not worked since the Spectrum Installation on 5/17/21. Anything anyone can suggest I would greatly appreciate as I was very dependent upon Alexa with my scheduling, etc and it's a great inconvenience. Thank you so much if someone can help me. ☹

    I bought a echo dot for Father’s Day and when trying to set it up it keeps saying that my WiFi is public and tries to take me to another page but doesn’t actually work. I have my own echo dot which is connected to the same WiFi and I had no issues. Do you have any advice on how to fix this issue

      That’s a strange one especially if it’s your private home WiFi. I would contact Amazon support as I have never encountered that situation.

    I’m having the same issue, but I figured it out when I connect it to other network, it works fine. But when I try to connect to my house router, it says, can’t connect to the internet. I think it’s a router configuration problem, I did factory reset in my router and Alexa dot, but still having the same problem. Can anyone help please?

    I'm having many issues such as replacing Xfinity modem 4 times, my cell phones ok since it connects to amazon by his place but not mine. The same for Ebay and a few others. I can connect to Amazon by 4g network. No elexa items will connect or tablets.

      @@SimplySmart123 well after going through 6 modems or more and 3 techs and phone talks the last tech new there was issues and the phone tech lady said there wasn't so went to advanced tech and they both figured it out. Settings or something on the phones and along with adjustments done.

      You may need to do a factory reset of your device. Then just follow your basic setup process. If may be getting confused especially if your new WiFi name is the same as before.

    I was connected to Fiber today and installed a new modem. Since then Alexa tells me she cannot connect to wifi. Do you have any ideas how to fix this please? My Alexa is close to my modem. Many thanks in advance!

      I’m assuming your network may have some changes. So I would just do a factory reset on your Alexa device and redo the set up.

    Mine does the same thing but I have unpluggged and had to pick the wifi again. It hooks up temporarily then disconnects and I get an error message it isn't hooked up to wifi to see the manual

      Try a hard reset as shown in this video. Also if you have a choice choose your 2.4ghz WiFi to maximize range.

      I'm having the same issue with my echo show. It disconnects I unplugged, I also reset the device. It temporarily works but disconnects afterward. This has never happened, I'm returning it to amazon for fixing.

    Great!! A 4.30 second video to simply tell us to unplug and plug back in ! I cant connect my device for the first time. Says its connected on the set up but remains offline. ive unplugged and plugged back in several times no joy :(

    For some reason when I go into my echo device on the app, there's no option for wifi settings? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app and no joy? Thanks anyway :-)

    Greetings from germany! :-) Most of the times, Alexa is crying, I do the same (unplug, plug it in) and that works... but here seems to be a general problem with the WiFi, in my sight. I`m still trying to understand, whats the real problem here, and why she seemingly disconnects from the WiFi, although other devices in my network don't have the problem.

    Completely lost got device today....it finds the Amazon device but connection to that means WiFi is turned off...I am v confused on this as spent hours,yes WiFi on TV and Mac and cell fine.....is it me....thought this was simple...Help

    I am trying to use my mobile data to connect to Alexa App. Bluetooth switched on. I can see Amazon on my Wifi . When I connect Amazon my mobile internet is gone. So I connected my husbands mobile to Amazon on wifi. and back to my app on mobile ... Its still on orange. Can you help me please?

      You will need to use your phone as a hotspot. First go into your phone and enable your hotspot and it will tell you the name of your network in the password. Then go to the Alexa app enter those credentials and you should be good to go.

    Accidentally reset my modem to factory settings and all Alexa devices wouldn’t connect to new wifi name and password. Tried everything. Finally figured out the connection was paused in the Xfinity app. Had to unpause and then was able to connect through Alexa app. Unpaused through xfinity app by going to Wifi > Devices not connected > select Amazon Echo > unpause. Hope that helps someone, took me hours to figure out.

      Sorry you are having issues. Have you unplugged and plugged your device back in? Also has it been connected to you WiFi in the past or is this your first attempt?

      You can also do a hard reset and run through the initial setup once again.

      Good question. Try to uninstall the Alexa app from your phone and reinstall it. You will not lose anything but will need to login after you reinstall the app.

    ATTENTION! When my wi-fi hiccuped and I lost the Echo, I tried MANY times to re-connect and, for a still unknown reason, it refused to connect. I used a paper clip to re-set it and it STILL wouldn’t connect. Long story much shorter...when you go to your computer to reconnect, remember that when you are searching for devices the Echo will no longer be recognizable as whatever you named it. You should re-connect using NEW DEVICE SET-UP. That worked!! 😁

      +Preston Shanayda you may need to do a factory reset on your device. Just google factor reset and your device name and then retry the set-up. I don’t have a video yet but I will make some soon!

    I was using my echo dot with my cellular data.. it worked fine for a while but then it randomly stopped.. it wont connect to wifi and idk what to do 😣😣

      It your WiFi is changed you will need to reset up your echo device. You should be able to just rerun the setup but a factory reset will surely do the trick.

    I got thru this by having to use a hotspot to add the devices to my Amazon account but now when I try to sign them into my main house network it keeps telling me that my wifi password is wrong & will not let me get thru it. I’m so frustrated.

      Gaster 999 did you try a factory reset? If that doesn’t work you may have a hardware issue and only Amazon can fix that with a new device.

      Try and restart everything. Your router, your phone, and your echo device. Also be sure your WiFi works on another connected device.

      SimplySmart123 ✅ thanks for that idea. I have. It’s to do with my phone being an Apple phone. Apparently they are having issues with Samsung and Apple devices. Best to connect via your web browser in private mode then connect that way, find amazon WiFi in settings then connect via web and it worked. Now I can’t get the two speakers to connect for music 🤪🙄😀 First world problems lol. Thanks for your help.

      If it’s close to your router and you know that the signal strength should be good I would just continue with the setup and see if you run into any issues after the setup is complete.

      I figured it out shortly after sending this. I didn’t realize I had to set my phone wifi to the Amazon echo dot and not the Wi-Fi network I’m trying to have it connect to if that makes sense. It was weird but whatever it’s working again.

      Pressing the speaker and volume down button for 20 seconds will factory reset the Gen 2 Echo Dot. :)

    I have the 3rd generation echo dot. The first time I ever set it up, it worked fine, then one day I had to disconnect and reconnect it. Since then it never worked again. I tried everything possible. That stupid amazon network that appears cannot connect to the internet, I put the password a hundred times, nothing will work. I have ps4, xbox, pcs, laptops, ipads, tv and phones, all only had to be connected to the wifi once and never ever disconnected again. This echo dot it clearly crap! Only thing left is to do is to return it and forget about it.

      What I did was use my wife's newer phone, and installed Alexa app on her phone, and it was a totally different setup for Alexa. I used her phone to connect, I don't understand, but as long as it works. @@SimplySmart123

      The Alexa app is on your mobile device. It’s required to setup your devices. You should have the app on your phone already. All that is shown in this video is how to restart your device that will fix 80% off all issues. You don’t need to open your app. Just unplug your device and replug. This should fix your issue.

      All you need to do it login to you Amazon account and it should be fixed if it’s connected to WiFi. If it’s still the same I would do a factory reset on that one device. Check the video description for a video on how to do that.

      None of that matters. Just unplug your device and plug it back it at the back of your echo. That should fix your issue. If it doesn’t fix it restart your router next. Still not fixed? Do a factory reset on your echo device. Check the video description for that video!

      If this method doesn’t fix it you might try a factory reset. Otherwise you may have a network issue or a echo hardware issue.
