  • Six Zero releases a new paddle which is 1st to market with a 100% DuPont USA made kevlar face. This is a 3K weave which is more durable, gives an extra level of grab and feel, and has a nice combination of power and control.
    Six Zero description: The Six Zero Ruby Pickleball Paddle is a world first paddle that uses 100% Aramid fiber, sourced from DuPont™ Kevlar® as its face material. The face material has a unique combination of high strength, high modulus, toughness and thermal stability. It has high impact resistance and is durable (abrasion resistant), meaning the paddle surface will last a long time and will be more resistant to wear compared to existing carbon faced paddles. In addition, the cross-weave cloth pattern provides a bump in spin, grip and feel. The way the face grabs the ball really stands out along with the power generated. Six Zero spent over 10 months developing the Ruby paddle. There is a measurable difference between existing face materials and Kevlar® in terms of production workability and the process of imparting a raw textured surface. The Ruby paddle has an eye-catching red cloth matched with white trim highlights. The unibody paddle design builds on the carbon fusion edge thermoform technology developed by Six Zero across its Diamond Series.

    Nice interview. Would like to see a in depth discussion like there was with the gearbox paddles. That gearbox interview has to be my all-time favorite video of yours so far. 👍

      Appreciate the feedback. Hopefully the full interview will be in line with what you’re looking for. I agree, Rafael did not hold back on that one.

      3 weeks of play with my Ruby. No issues with wear or durability, like new still. Only clean with a damp microfiber cloth though. DO NOT USE an eraser rubber to clean the Ruby. It could take out micro Kevlar tufts affecting performance.
      Came from an Ace Spade which is a raw carbon fiber paddle. I noticed right off the rip the Ruby’s spin was noticeably impressive. Coming from a tennis background topspin is easy for me to generate (I’m a 4.5-5 level player. Higher in singles).
      The Ruby has increased my confidence in hitting drives from the baseline and dinks around the kitchen line. The ball dips down much harder with the Ruby than other carbon fiber paddles I’ve played with in the past. I also feel like my mishits are more consistent in terms of keeping them in the court and not spraying all over the place.
      I added some overgrip and lead tape after 2 sessions… wow! It changed the entire feel of the paddle, especially the lead. I added a 3 gram strip on each side of the edge guard in the middle. The lead makes the sweet spot feel larger and gives you a bit more power with the added swing weight without sacrificing hand speed for battles at the kitchen.
      The biggest plus of adding the lead is the increase in stability which is where this paddle shines for me especially at the kitchen. Buttery smooth dinks and resets with the Ruby. Hand battles? No problem! It really is an all court paddle that excels in elite elite tier spin/control without sacrificing too much in power/pop.
      If you’re a player who can generate decent paddle head speed power won’t be an issue. The only “negative” takeaway for me is that it takes probably 6 hours of play to break in the Kevlar face. At first it feels pretty stiff. But, to be expected with the Kevlar material. After a few sessions you’ll notice a plusher feel and that’s when the crazy spin really kicks in.
      After adding 3 grams of lead on each side with overgrip and a tad of electrical tape for the edge guard (top half of face) I’m at 8.58 ounces which isn’t a big difference from stock at around 8.2 ounces.
      If you’re in the market for a higher end paddle but don’t want to break the bank for a new Joola, Selkirk, or Gearbox, I think the Ruby (or a DBD) is the best value out there for $199. With discount codes you can bring it down $15-$20.
      11/10 paddle for me. Thank you, Six Zero!

    Great job Brian. Really like listening to Dale. Super smart like Raphael is when in comes to "new" technology in paddles. Looking forward to part 2. I''ve asked this of the other top reviewers. How does the brand or type of adhesives used, affect problems like "delam" or "core corruption" I've seen reviewers "tear' appart different paddles and some take real work to peel off the faces.
    Curious how Kevlar reacts to the adhesives being used by 6.0.

      How do you compare the Ruby to the DBD? I am on the fence about ordering a BnB Shogun or Ruby. I currently play a 16mm DBD. I play some singles but mostly a doubles player and I love to serve hard

      You should be able to order it today at 6PM EST. I honestly didn’t have enough time with it to give you an informed opinion. There are content creators like JohnKew, Pickleball Studio, Pickleball Effect, Pickleball Will, etc. who will give you a better sense of which to purchase.

    Does this paddle still clean up with a standard eraser like "raw" carbon fiber?

    • @buildingpickleball
      @buildingpickleball  9 месяцев назад

      That’s a good question. I’m not sure, I don’t own it and can’t try it. Best I can recommend is to consider commenting on Six Zero’s IG post.

      And you’re cleaning the peelmply not the actual CF or Kevlar

    • @fogflyer
      @fogflyer 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@scottfrancis13Yeah, I just recently learned about the whole peel ply thing. I kind of feel like I have been scammed all this time with the "raw carbon" hype. As you know, it isn't actually the carbon fiber causing the roughness, but rather the imprint of a peel ply cloth in the epoxy after the peel ply is removed. Because of this, I assumed the eraser would still work and thank you for verifying that is true. I ordered a Ruby yesterday, so it will be interesting to see if I think the Kevlar makes any difference at all.
