- Shoutout and a big Thank You! to Derek Huckaby for the gift and request for a song that put a huge smile on my face!!
Don is a life coach, and this is what happens when a life coach and philosopher does reactions to traditional country music. Enjoy!

I was going to college, in Oklahoma, when this song came out and it had lots of radio play where I lived, near Tulsa.
Fishing in the Dark was an absolute staple of every dance I went to in high school. Everyone loved it!
I love the Dirt Band. My three favorites are "Dance Little Jean", "Partners Brothers and Friends" and "Long Hard Road". There are many that I love but these are my favorite.
No, Don... Not fishing, it's fishn'! Lol
I listen to this on Music Choice. It's bouncy and fun.
It was #1 in 87 and then went platinum in 2014 when it was made available as an mp3
Fun song! It's pretty amazing that "Fishin' in the Dark" went platinum, but it was a #1 on the U.S. and Canadian country charts in 1987. Fun fact - The NHL Buffalo Sabres' young star, Tage Thompson, made this song his "goal song." Every time he scores a goal in Buffalo, the chorus plays (and it played a lot this season).
@dennis king, you are right I miss read, it never hit the hot chart but did go #1. But it did take a few years until it went platinum in 2014.
Don't know to much about the nitty gritty dirt band this is a beautiful song. Thanks Don and Derrick
Nice reaction to this iconic NGDB songs. Mr. BoJangles is probably the groups biggest hit and most iconic song. :)
I'm a fan of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. This is a great song. Thanks for sharing this reaction video. Cheers!✌️
Thanks Derek was definitely a fun song back then and today.Thank you Don for the great reaction
They put on a good show have seen them a few times
NGDB has so many good songs ! Partners, Brothers and Friends, Dance Little Jean, Sharecropper’s Dream, Face on the Cuttjng room Floor,Cadillac Ranch, Mr. Bojangles
Partners et al is one of my favorites... Love the line "...is it folk it rock or country?.. seems like everybody cares but us!" 😊
@@chrisdickens8233 I love that line!
Dirt Band is worthy of a deep dive. Their influence goes so much deeper than the commercial success of their songs. In the early 70s, they were the driving force behind the historic "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" album as a sort of legacy preservation project for old-time bluegrass. They moved on from that to a string of hits in the 80s. But always stayed pretty true to their folk/bluegrass roots. Further suggestions for them should include their version of "Mr. Bojangles" and "Dance, Little Jean."
One of my all time faves, thanks so much Derek for the outstanding request! I saw just these guys in concert a couple of weeks back (they're doing a 50 year anniversary tour - imagine that! - and it's still going) and their live show is absolutely stupendous! They still have 3 of the original members (Jeff Hanna, Jimmy Fadden, Bob Carpenter) and now Jeff's son is part of the band. As Mike Williams mentioned Jimmy Fadden plays both the drums and the harmonica that you loved so much Don, and that's an amazing combo to play since drums are a little ahead and harmonica is a little behind the beat. Also another little fun fact - Jeff is married to one my all time favourite songwriters Matraca Berg! Thanks Don for the wonderful reaction!
Derek, after this song, we will need Brad Paisley's, "I'm Going to Check You for Ticks." Don you were correct when you mentioned John Denver along with these guys. I think a couple of them came from Colorado, and they appeared with John sometimes. They had some great songs.
@joyce mcfee, yeah that would be a good one another brad song mud on the tires 😅. Good stuff
Insane you've never heard this 🤣
tu all
Funny story.. When I was growing up, every time this song came on the radio, my dad would jokingly tell my older sister that she was conceived to this song.
So every time it came on, she would immediately cringe, cover her ears, endlessly hound them to change the station. She HATED it.
I on the other hand love the song. Lol
Yep! Definitely not about fishing…..😎
Fishing for something. He wanted to get himself some nice big bass if you knew what I mean
Plus, Jimmy Ibbotson has one of the best voices and most distinct voices ever…..
Sorry for the misinformation i read it wrong, it never hit the hot charts. it did go #1 in 1987 and went platinum in 2014 so yeah a few years went by. It was released as a single from their album hold on.
This song isn’t about holding hands looking at the stars at all lol
The drummer is the harp player
