The Chattahoochee River separates Alabama and Georgia (just halfway thru though - the river totally separates southern portion between the two states but the northern part of the river bears off to the northeast in GA. Grew up in the southern area, fishing, swimming & skiing. We loved the song too.

I was at very expensive restaurant, with executives from another company in Columbus GA and were talking about our products. It was going down the tubes fast. The river below was still as glass. I asked the waiter what was the name of it, he said the Chattahoochee. I said way too loud, the Alan Jackson song? The CEO we were talking to jumped in "one in the same". We sang the song, poorly, but ended up laughing about it. The entire conversation changed 180 degrees. I loved this song before the dinner, and really loved it afterwards.

I remember when this came out, I wasn't a big country music fan I was more into ROCK but it was a fun song and it made me a fan of Alan's. We all thought the name of the Chattahoochee was so funny and you couldn't help but sing it and smile. It was a great song with a crowd of friends having a good time.

Alan dated one of the girls in my neighborhood back in 80-81. Used to see him working at the marina at the lake. There was 3 big stars to come from Georgia in the mid 80’s. Him, Travis Tritt and Doug Stone. And can’t forget the ladies, Trisha Yearwood(Mrs Garth Brooks) also came outa GA around that time.

If you like Alan Jackson's story telling songs, i have two recomendations. 1st, on the slower side, he has a song called "Midnight In Montgomery". That's a slow paced, bu very poetic story telling song. That song is actually about Hank Williams Sr.
2nd, his 2009 song titled "1976" is faster paced, but is also a story telling song about his teenaged and young adulthood

I did Army Basic, AIT, Jump School and the first part of Ranger School at Ft. Benning, GA. When we did our 5 qualifying jumps, we were warned about potential water landings in the Chattahoochee River. There's also an Airborne poem called "Curse of Fox Platoon" that had supposedly been written in the 50s or 60s, from the perspective of an Airborne paratrooper, who had awakened to find that some drunk, stumbling through his platoon bay, had scuffed his newly spit shined jump boots that he was supposed to wear to formation in the morning. He cursed him several ways but, the one that left a lasting impression on me was, "may you do a water landing on your last Jump School jump into the Chattahoochee River in the middle of alligator and water moccasin mating season".

This is the very first song I can ever remember hearing from him and what made him my first favorite artist when I was about 4 years old in the mid 90's.
I used to spend all day in a rural empty car shop with my dad, and it was insanely boring. This song and George Strait's "Carrying Your Love With Me" playing on the shop radio was the highlight of my day.
That's also where dad taught me how to play Dots and Boxes by myself. Though I didn't even know the name until Googling it just now. That didn't really help with my boredom at all though. Lol

A few more party vibe videos from country artists include "One Margarita" by Luke Bryan, "Boys Round Here" by Blake Shelton and "Hell Right" also Blake. And for an island/party vibe check out Kenny Chesney "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem". Plus Kenny has a couple of beautiful, mellow island vibe songs you might enjoy, "Old Blue Chair" and "Wild Child", which is more of a free spirit creation than island I suppose. Finally a video, which has nothing to do with parties or islands, from rising talent in the genre is Jimmie Allen "Down Home", a wonderful tribute to his late father.
