Outstanding video, Aleksi. Prior to taking up riding, I would have assumed that dirt riders were renegades that damaged and disrespected the earth on purpose for their own amusement. What I know now is that under each helmet is a person, a real human being, just like anybody else. Riders ride because it brings them joy and fun, without evil intent, and they are enjoying the great outdoors in their own way.
Why would anyone ever want to damage the earth ON PURPOSE? Of course they ride because it brings them joy.

I think the main problem is that people do not like dirt bikes because we "ruin" the forest and make noise. In Finland there was some article about dirt bikes are actually good for forest because it lets the ground breath more. But tell that to them... they don't care.... they want motorcycles to be gone so they could walk with their dog in our trails..
But we loose more places to ride because deforestation and people building houses everywhere near the old enduro/mx tracks and then start complaining til they shut it all down...
Those machines in forest industry make more harm than 1000 motorcycles could do in years.
The same here in Latvia! I have got warning for riding in forest, but a year later at the same place they made such a mess after cutting trees! We had nice trail, now there is unpleasant view! And it will stay for years like that!
Also the same in Hungary... There aren't much places to ride free but hunters and forest workers almost everywhere.. :(

In my country dirtbike riders are viewed as criminalists and if they catch a rider he often goes to jail. But since I really love motorcycles and dirtbikes especially I can not imagine my life without a dirtbike. Btw how many hours do you have on your ktm that you rode in the video?

Dirt bikes saved my life, i had lower back pain for 5 years, almost to the point of getting on prescription pain meds, then i rode a dirt bike and it fixed me. I dont know how or what it did to align or unpinch or whatever, i just know i ride everyday now and im not addicted to pills like some zombie. Great video!
@Kevin Mcdonnell i think it has to do with the reverse way you ride on dirt. My street bike just made it worse, as did the 250r 3 wheeler and any quad. A little kawasaki 140 was my savior, and though i own like 4 others now i keep it to remember how bad life was when i didnt ride every day.

To really move forward would mean to first think of manufacturing then product then recycling. Now we are just producing more to undo something that shouldn't have been produced in first place.
What comes to changing big audience the product just needs to be better than old ones and we move - it's not enough to be almost like 2 stroke or taste almost like beef stake. When electric dirtbike is more capable and handles better than current I surely hope it has green manufacturing line since we all wan't to have one. Just like TPI has less hassle with jetting and mixing while superior in performance, it is also better product for the environment (don't know if manufacturing is better or worse though).

It's not internal combustion engines per se that's causing global warming, it's the sheer number of them.
There aren't that many dirt bikes and they aren't ridden that frequently to be a big enough part of the problem to be worth worrying about right now.

Great Video, also the 2020 KTM is it better ? I live in an area that loud noice is a negative for neighbors and family. I have two tracks that are unridden because of his engine noice reality. My solution is electric, My sons 2018 YZ65 is a fantastic bike but is just to loud for where we live. So hoping that the KTM SXE5 is the solution. I get the attraction to the smell and sounds of the combustion engine, just have to adapt to my surrounds. Ive been riding since i was 5 yrs old and never liked trowing away oil and the smell of gas spilling in the van/ truck. I don't like having to use and dispose of gear oil. In my perfect world we have a quiet on demand power source that opens up opportunities for others to be involved. I think that E bikes can open up more areas to ride and offend less people, thus getting more people interested and convert the non riders to see that they have been on the dark side. Alta was getting really close to a light competitive bike, hope someone picks up the mantle.

More people= more demand. Manufacturing creates pollution. People wanting new things = more manufacturing. Making things last is the greenest thing people can do. That however does not generate economy. Without economy what happens?
Powerful people protect their interests I.e. their wealth which is driven by economy. Nothing will change unless globally 99% of people change and that won't happen soon. All we can do is enjoy the planet as responsibly as we can.
1 dodge ram with a Cummins makes more emissions in one ride to the corner store then my yz250 makes in a year. My question to the government is ..... ? If they are so worried about global warming, why are they forcing transport trucks to have emission control that make the exhaust temperatures to exit the stack more then twice as hot and 4 times as hot while doing a regen. I drove a westernstar logging truck that was so dam hot in the cab, you could warm your lunch on the floor on the passenger side, dpf is right under the passenger side floor. Without AC the truck was not driveable in summer months. I went years n years without needing AC in the old trucks "pre emissions " . To me all these new transport trucks are pumping way more heat into the atmosphere. Average of 700f to 2500f difference in temps from old pre emissions to the new clean air trucks. Not to mention all the DEF containers that are NOT RECYCLABLE. This type of plastic container, if you burn in in a fire it will just melt and look like a foam plate on the ground after the fire burns out. Makes ya wonder what type of plastic is being used and how good they are for the world. My thoughts are based on my last 24 years as a trucker. 10/4.

At Perry State Forest in Ohio dirtbikers and ATV riders stopped coal mining companies from destroying the land. There were no tree huggers in sight trying to stop them. Only riders and local townspeople were protecting the forest.
This is a great video but in my opinion we need to not change the product that emits very low ghg but turn the factories more green but keep the product

I think it's good to follow up on cleaner techniques. But the whole environment is a business. If all those 'nature people' who are attending the climate discussions fly all in from where ever on the world, by plane rent cars, use expensive hotels and airco sleeping rooms and conference rooms. If they stop doing this and if they want to meet (use the www to communicate, DUHHH) and use themselves sail ships and pushbikes and sleeping in a tent I will start listening.
BTW as long as the air has sufficient oxygen that my bike will run I burn all the gas I can. Oh and greenhouse gas is CO2. % of this in the air is more or less 0.05%. So an increase of 10 % is next to nothing.
Who remembers the acid rain story from the 80's. By 2020 there would be no more living forest on the world. Same joke, okay we have different gas in fridge and so on. As said before I'm not opposed to that.
Lets call them bird people want to shut down a racetrack where I lived. Too much noise they say. It's in the forest okay but next to a busy 4 lane highway. Where are we talking about.
Do not judge electric bikes (or cars) by what is on the market. The internal combustion engine has been around for more than 100 years. Commercial electric bikes are something brand new. Traditional manufacturers are not doing much because they know their industry will fall when we convert to electric. The manufacturers of exhausts, oil filters, petrol filters, gas tanks, you name it, will lose business. Imagine the economic backlash. I would prefer an electric bike.
I wonder what would happen if we all cease to exist at once. Would the cows over populate the planet to the point methane melt the planet through cows fart explosions? Are we that important? I can't stop thinking in riding (specially now I have a fractured hand) Downhill mountain bike already bored me. I guess this few months of recovery I'll get an old v8 jeep to restore and drive with one hand twice a month on the woods. in fact this is so contradictory for me I love the forest but I feel like a little cancer to it I just can't help me. I don't even know if is funny or depressing but I'm getting that Jeep right now just to spend more time in the woods.

Talking about emissions from dirtbikes piss me off!! I mean You can’t compare the daily car driving to something we do on some hours every weekend or week and a few months over the year. Motocross could also be good for the planet when You ride and You tear up the ground new plants can grow. The emissions from motorcycles are not even worth trying to find in a test!
I'm not on board with you here. I love the electric bikes, and they will only grow the sport.

Alta didn’t have much success MX "Guru". It’s rumored rumored that Harley Davidson was a large funder of Alta and once Harley had gathered all the information they felt they needed, they backed out of Alta causing it to fail. Shortly after Alta went under Harley Davidson came out with their own line of electric bikes.
The KTM might have been trash but the Altas were actually good bikes, other than the battery life. But I dont care I'm not riding a damn hippie dirt bike anyway

I've ridden the new Electric Harley & it's absolutely AMAZING! I WOULD LOVE ELECTRIC BIKES to become more prevalent!
CLEAN! QUIET! & MONSTROUS INSTANT TORQUE that no combustion engine can compete with!
Think about the trails we could ride QUIETLY on an electric dirt / ADV bike! the animals we'd see instead of scaring off! & riding without pissing off non-riders with loud stinking polluting engines!
Moto tracks & riding areas are closed down all over bc of noise pollution. Why not have bikes with no noise pollution or air pollution? why not have electric bikes that don't need oil changes & engine rebuilds & valve adjustments? Why not have Electric bikes? the only thing holding me back is range. but if someone can build a decent electric adv/ dual sport with a 200 mile range.... I'll be on it like a dog on a fresh cut steak!
But motorcycles are way less polluting than any other vehicle on the road/offroad though with a engine.
I love to ride bikes, but i think it’s wrong to say just have fun, don’t look back and don’t think. Just look what have we done on earth to animals. Look at all the trash everywhere, the fires in brazil etc. The human acting like a virus to the earth and the population rising. We spray poison everywhere and the plants and bacterias getting stronger. Just think about it: the air we breathe is only about 8km high. We’re the fish in an Aquarium and if the balance flips, we’re screwed. Of course climate change is also a nature phenomenon and the industry use it to earn more money, because sadly money talks nowadays. We will see what happens in the future, but we have to look for our earth, because we have only this one
Humans are not causing global warming. In fact the southern hemisphere is getting colder. Probably because we are in the initial phases of a polar reversal.

Well you probably wouldn't know because electric bikes are automatic as of most cars now adays. The enjoyment of shifting is all about the sport, and who doesn't love that sweet sound of a 2 smoker.

1. Dirt bikes ain't the only hobby you may have to be happy. The point is to make the stress create new ways to fulfill our needs. Some time ago people thought smoking is great and fancy.
2. You've created a disrespectful image of a true dirt bike enthusiast. People may prefer electric bikes, you suggest they can't be the best.
3. Criticism of two stroke engines has strong background and is banned in EU since many years for damn good reasons. New 4 strokes engines are much more friendly to anything that lives.

Don't deny climate change just because you're afraid to loose your bike. 2 gallons of gas in my bike, gets me further and is cleaner than any other vehicle on the road. They will come for our trucks before they come for our bikes.

So I have gone vegan but most people and dirtbike riders will never give up their meat even though this is the main cause. So ride your dirt bike and go vegan and know you are doing more than anyone else towards cleaner environment
