Chevy Colorado ZR2 tries The Wall on Poughkeepsie Gulch

- We had to try one of the most challenging trails in the San Juan mountains. Poughkeepsie Gulch and Wall are a test for any off road rig and it's even more taxing on a rainy day. Does this Colorado ZR2 pass this adventurous test? Do we need to return another day to tackle " The Wall"?
I’ve done the wall twice... it’s hard enough when it’s dry. I don’t think I would even attempt it when wet. It’s a matter of just getting the line exactly right. It looks like it’s even worse than the last time I did it....
Wet and muddy not the time to try the wall
The bags hanging off the tailgate, are those trash ( 💩🧻🚽) bags?
Trash carrier...better than having garbage fall out the bed of the truck.
I have 2 words for you…super swamper.
Drivers spotter sucks! I never use a spotter I've found that I'm my own best spotter ever time. I get out of the vehicle and walk it, and plot my path for myself.
He's a great friend and a good spotter. We has been wheeling with him for years. He recently got us out of a tippy situation in Sand Hollow.
The spotter had nothing to do with it. The rain, sleet, and mud is what made it harder.
Holy crap, that trail off the side of the mountain has to be nerve-wracking
X-2 on the spotter sucks. To do the wall takes a good line and momentum so don't stand in front of the truck.
The driver must have several years worth of payments left on his city date truck, with his wife watching yet he gets credit for trying.
Take two this year! Can't wait to go. Nothing wrong with the spotter, he's a good friend that we've wheeled with for years. We had 1000 mile drive back to the Ozark Mountains, no need to break the truck.
Poughkeepsie is a tough trail when its dry!! Such a beautiful trail though... the wall is all about getting the right line.. well done.
Thanks! We are looking forward to trying it again sometime.
Just found this video... I really want to get out west one day for stuff like this... nothing like this at all in the east. Gear question for you thought... what step rails are those, and are they usable as rock sliders, or just step rails? I need something with steps for my wife, but don't want to lose having rock sliders that I can set the truck on if I'm out on the trail.
These are actually prototype rock sliders from Chassis Unlimited. They made up this set but never put them into production. Jakesz28 /my husband/driver in this video actually made me steps out of bent tubing that slid over the factory rock sliders. We saw that someone is using that same design now and is selling them. ~ Sally
Patagonia tires are great in the sand but I have heard nothing but issues in the rocks.
The rocks really chunked off the rubber. Mike (@jakesz28) just replaced them with a different brand.
A winch could pull a De Ville up that rock
If it could get to the wall, I'd agree. Hoping for round 2 this summer.
When was this filmed? Curious as I was there the last few days of October, and it was much less green for me leading up to the split off to PW (coming from Corkscrew Pass/Ironton) than this sorta shows. I decided to not try it by myself, but I keep watching videos that make me think I should go back and give it a shot. lol.
It was filmed on 8/28/22, we were in Colorado for about 3 weeks on that trip and this was our first weekend out there.
@@smzajacobs92 that totally makes sense, still okay I decided to not do it, this trip. lol
@@ansleythestewart we are going to try again next year, hopefully it won't be as muddy. Good luck, when you do decide to try it!
Truck was definitely loaded heavy.
Yes, we usually bring enough gear to stay out camping and off roading for 3 weeks when we make it out to Colorado.
i know people like the patagonia tire but something about them has me shying away. i run wildpeak at3w for the daily stuff, 255/80r17 and they do very well. i have a set of 34x10/17 super swampers for the hairy stuff. the problem is the falkens get the job done all the time. the swampers are just plain mean tires. nice rig you have. i also put in the 4.56 nitro gears. no issues at 22k miles. you might try keeping the driver side tires in the rut next time. good traction that way.
It's hard to tell in the video but it was raining the entire time we were up there. Everything was covered in a greasy mud. Our buddy who's made it up also couldn't do it that day. These are 37's and we run them for everything, it's a daily driver. We have 80k miles on it and have driven it all across the country. We also have 4.56 gears. We run the Nitto trail grapplers on our H3 Hummer and they have been great. The only issue is lack of siping for icy driving. Mike wanted to try the patagonia's because the 37's weighed the same as the 35's we have. When we first mounted them they were super quiet, zero road noise. We are still undecided if we would purchase them again, they only have about 4K miles on them.
People either love the Patagonia tires or hate them. They are priced well, might be a little soft. Which will definitely help with traction. The one thing I have to say is it did not matter what tires you had that day. The only way you were getting up the wall was full send with momentum. That is not the way I wheel so I pulled cable. If it was dry I would have walked right up that wall.
You have a BDS lift + AEV fenders to clear those 37's? Are you running any skidplate underneath?
ditto on the wildpeaks... I have 35's on my wrangler and they are awesome.. 65k miles and still plenty of tread left too...
He sat on the eagle of the bed and picked his toes
What? 🤣
Wet! good try man! The end soundtrack is fitting!
Thanks!
Wow that looks gnarly!
I'm sure he's going to attempt it again this summer.
What size tires are you running?
37's. We recently had to replace the Milestar Patagonias and went with BFGoodrich Km3's
@@smzajacobs92 thanks! Love the way your truck looks.
