    You would be surprised, that wrangler with smaller tires and no lift has a better break over angle then a modified gladiator.

    I agree with him 100% about it rolling back... I rented one recently & did several trails in Sedona & Jerome... Also, the electric motors were difficult to control when you were climbing super steep with deep loose rock... Power & torque would surge & bury all forward crawling momentum... I found myself constantly using my brake pedal to control surge... I would only buy a gas powered jeep for the constant extreme...

      Thats so interesting. Im glad i wasnt the only one with a problem. If you watch our other videos Greg has a 4xe and he swears his doesnt do that. Its a 2024, but since you mentioned the power modulation i remember he had that exact same problem on our recent trip to Chinaman and Deadhorse.

      @@barelymadeit Ironically my name is Greg too... LOL! I am a 4Runner Fan & have had 5 in total with 1.6 Million miles across 3 generations & trim levels... But.... like to feel the difference between the two so I rent jeeps on out-west excursions... I rented a Gladiator Rubicon naturally aspirated & realized, I could love it pretty close to how I love 4Runners (at least in the short term) : )
      We were outside of Tucson AZ, decided to follow some friends who had a touched up Cherokee classic with similar capabilities... Trying to follow him up some of the climbs to run the ridge was discomforting to say the least... again, where I needed to crawl over or up deep loose gravel, it often over- torqued & buried itself.... Pitch black, sliding backwards in the dark with my steer wheels sliding in front of me locked up backwards... Not what I expected... I went all electric for a minute like you guys were talking about & trying to climb a ledge I could smell burnt clutch / electronics smell & had to reengage the gas engine... Too much nonsense for me... If I need that much torque, I have a 4th gen 4runner V8 that will break tires from rim or I could get a Hemi Rubicon... it sounded cool but perhaps jeep is trying too hard to make a Swiss army knife... The 2025 4Runners look spectacular on paper but they are electric assist too... Lets see how that recipe turns out...

    Very nice video showing the comparison of the 4xe. One of the things that I noticed was that you did not air downtime tires enough. Poughkeepsie trail can be done much easier when the tires are down 8-15 psi., depending on the types of wheels that you are running. I do not run deadlocks and find that the trail is much easier on the vehicle and the traction is much better when I run 12-15 psi. On the wall, yes, you were too far to the right - straddle the crack and stay left as you go up it and then just before your left tire hits the rocky outcrop turn passenger. The wall is funny on what can make and what does not - too many variables (tires, puddles, mud, wetness on the rocks, wheelbase and vehicle lift). Your Gladiator would have done better climbing the other vertical wall on the far left. Long wheelbase vehicles seem to fair much better on that climb. Another thing that you should play with on descents is the hill descent button. If you learn how to use it you will be amazed at what it can do for you.(low range/first gear/no throttle or brake)

    I'd say the Rubicon 4XE in stock form is more capable than the Gladiator in its modified form here, simply due to the breakover point. Also, with regards to driving fun and power the 4xE is in a whole other class than the slow dated V6 Gladiator that barely has enough power to get outta its own way lol.

    Looks like someone's been monkeying with the rocks around 8:14. When I ran that section 2 years ago, some of those bigger boulders were almost smack in the middle of the trail. I scraped the hell out of my stock 4xe Rubi's front diff on one of them but still made it through. Poughkeepsie is definitely a doable trail in a stock Rubicon (especially a 4xe with it's extra 1" of clearance) but it's pushing the limit for sure, especially without a winch.

    • @barelymadeit
      @barelymadeit  11 месяцев назад +2

      Great eye! I think you're absolutely right, 2 years ago we could barely get our grand cherokee through that section and almost turned around, but one thing we never do is move rocks. In our latest video there was an FJ stuck on the gatekeeper at Red Cone and they had this huge pile of rock they were stacking, until we got there and told them to stop. With our guidance the FJ didn't need the rocks, he scrapped a lot, but got over it without the rocks. Moving rocks is the best way to get trails closed. :-( You're right, it was so close on some spots but we made it, barely :-)

    I think the JL and JT have about the same breakover/approach/departure angles they way those 2 are set up. The JT has to ride much higher due to the longer wheelbase. Also, I'd have the JL in electric mode to prevent that roll back, you said it was in hybrid mode? Seems in electric mode you'd have more control. Nice video though! It always amazes me how videos don't do justice to those obstacles! Any under body armor on the Gladiator?

    • @barelymadeit
      @barelymadeit  11 месяцев назад +1

      I think youre absolutly right but even after 2 hours to the trailhead we couldnt get enough charge to run all electric. It said it only gained 2-4 miles of range and then would drop to 1% battery after we put it in electric only. It was the same story driving around town too. It really seems like the kinda thing you have to charge seperatly in order to use it. On the gladiator we only have the stock rails and skid plates. The plan is full MC underarmore though. 😀

      We really struggled with the electric side. Even driving 2 hours to the trailhead it wouldnt charge the battery more than 4-5 miles worth of charge. So a couple of thing, I find wheeling in the 4xe is best in eSave or full electric. If in hybrid, I recommend using select speed (crawl control). I run 35’s on a 2 inch lift, it takes a little off the electric miles but I still get 20 to 21 miles pure charge in warm weather, less in winter. Regarding charging using eSave, that just eats up gas so I only do it when wheeling. In 4 Lo it charges decently fast getting you ready for those sections that you want to do in all electric.

    I think the part you're calling "going down on Engineer" is actually Mineral Creek. Did it let out to highway 550? I did Engineer back around 4th of July in a stock 3.6L Rubicon, started on the Lake City side and took Mineral Creek back to the highway, which looks familiar to the last section in the video. It's brutal, but tons of fun.

      I totally buchered the route in the intro haha, but yes engineer splits to the right for poughkeepsie and you can keep going on engineer or take poughkeepsie, after poughkeepsie you can take california pass to the alpine loop connector back to engineer pass and then back to the start just off 550 in ouray.
