  • This video covers how to build a reflection pool for woodland bird photography. I also build perches to create a woodland bird feeding station.
once I've finished building the set up I spend my first two hours in the hide. Have a look to see what my results are like. At the end of the video I show my first reflection pool shots. Which are a really nice surprise.

Well done, Steve. Some nice ideas there. It's -25 and snowy here so the reflecting pond is going to have to wait a few months! In the meantime, I need to bundle up and get out with my camera. Have a great weekend.

Good tip about the gloves when emptying the pool. I didnt think you could catch weils disease like that. I will bear that in mind.

    Nice work Steve!
The old saying goes “build a home for nature & they will come” This proves that, & it’s lovely to see how quickly the birds arrive & start feeding. I did hear the Buzzard through your lapel mic by the way too 👍
I reckon you will get birds of prey visiting there too, especially through winter. Sparrowhawks will soon see the attraction of lots of woodland birds in numbers, & you could have that as an added bonus. The badgers will soon be in hibernation mode, but they too will find the nuts & bird seed spill & use it as a food source.
Best of luck with it buddy, & friend & I are just starting our own similar adventure up here in Suffolk - but we only have a large rural garden enclosed with hedgerows & not a woodland; but we think it’s gonna work. 🤞
Keep on keeping on mate, look forward to seeing it progress.
    Best,
    Nick

I'm looking forward to getting the Gt Spotted Woodpeckers on the reflection pool as well. Good luck with your feeding station. Thanks for watching, all the best, Steve.
