Not only that, Exequy, Miasma, Voidspell, and Petrification also gone But the most damned of all, Focused Bolt now become gutted, and we don't have access to holy enchantment anymore
Yeah, really disappointed. Ranger - my fav class to play - is gone too, and the archer class has been nerfed to have essentially no melee capacity. I bought the game full price and stopped playing as soon as I reached the capital 😢
They ruined this class, MK is not even in the game. As far as I’m concerned this game is just a visually enhanced DDDA that fixed none of the tedious points of the first game and just made it slightly worse. Doesn’t deserve GOTY or even much of a mention. Sad to see Capcom drop the ball with it.
The old spells look weak, except bolide it's passable because they all hit. Especially high seism, that's not an earthquake, that was a mere mild tremor :d
The shock and awe factor of sorcerer is completely gone, man. What a bummer. They got a lot of things right in this game, most of them related to spectacle, so I'm kind of amazed that they bombed this class so hard. If all they'd done was just copy the camerawork and effects of the original, sorcerer would still be one of the best classes. But somehow, they've managed to downgrade it in almost every way aside from making casting speed faster. The stamina restoring spell and the HP drain spell would have been neat ADDITIONS, if they hadn't come at the cost of removing some of the best spells in the game (glicel, exequy, torpor, etc) and somehow making the coolest spells boring. Seriously, how the fuck do you take a spell where you conjure literal meteors from the sky, one which used to be one of the most awe-inspiring spells I've ever seen in a videogame, look like a medium-level spell from skyrim? And high seism looks even worse! Even maelstrom, which looks halfway decent, doesn't have the same kickass audio design of the original, and they completely removed the feature where walking into the center of the tornado applied the blind affect until you walked back out. I understand leaving some content out for later DLC, but I don't think they're exactly going to have a "make bolide great again" pack for 5 dollars that gives you better camerawork and sound design for your spells. I just hope they patch it or something. Weirdly huge disappointment in an otherwise fantastic game, which makes it stick out that much more and just kind of leaves me scratching my head at their decision making on this.
there is a big difference between looking cool and actually being fun to play tho. dd1 sorcerer looked cool but was so mechanically uninteresting dd2 sacrificed some of the flair to actually have a more interesting and varied gameplay loop.
They could add mini teleport as smthing to make sorce more mobile i think it would be good. And of course they gonna add cut off stuff from the game in the DLC, they want ur moneyyyyyy ohhhh, and they want u too scream of pleasuer when they deliver it.... I feel like half of the orginal game was cut off for the DLC...
@@amazingchestahead4602 Firstly, I agree with you that the gameplay loop was made better in many ways in this one. Sorcerer is more engaging to play in this game in many ways. But my problem starts when you realize that there was literally no reason for them to take out what they did in order to make it that way. Bolide still could have looked just as cool with a reduced cast time and a stamina restoring spell. Exequy, petrifaction, Glicel, lassitude, necromancy, and even more, didn't need to be removed in order to make us fly around better. My point is that both things could have coexisted in the same class just fine, but half of its original moveset has been dumped in the trashcan for no real reason. It should have been expanded, not cut down to an even smaller size. They've been working on this game for over a decade, I hardly think it was out of their budget to copy and paste some moves from the original, or add a little extra camera shake to bolide-sorry, meteoride- or make the effects stronger on seism. Oh, and one thing that I didn't mention; the ability to free aim your spells like a bow user (along with simple long range damage like fucking ingle, the most basic bread and butter of the class) has been completely removed, again for literally zero reason. I do want to reiterate, I do like this game in many ways. But the first game, despite its flaws in story and world, was nothing short of incredible, so I'm going to have very high expectations for its sequel that they spent, again, over 10 years making.
At first I was mad at this comment, and then I compared to the old skill list, and yeahhhhhh you right. I liked a lot of the weirder spells. They weren't good but I liked the variety.
@@H_M_Q23 yeah that is fair, i guess i just always have this knee jerk reaction to "dd1 sorc better" takes since many dont actually look into as depth as you have and are usually just blinded by nostalgia. But these are actually good points, especially the free aim one since although stuff like levin can be moved really slowy after you cast it is weird how you cant do it with like the ice storm or siesim.
Sorcerer may not be as grandiose as in DD1, but because of the shorter casting times, they feel more consistent and fluid in combat. I love DD1 Sorcerer, but sometimes it didn't feel like it was worth spending 10+ seconds charging up a massive spell, when a Mystic Knight, Strider, or Ranger would've already felled the beast or done insane damage to it in that time.
I haven't played DD2 but yes I do agree that thr flexibility of DD2 sorc is satisfying. And ngl I rarely use Bolide, Gicel or Maelstorm because of it's long cast time and inflexibility. As a sorc in DDDA, I only use Levin as a filler spell because of it's accuracy and speed, Comestion for aoe burn damage, Frigor for obstacle and ice damage, Holy Affinity to boost magic and ofc Holy Focused Bolt and unfortunately I rarely use Miasma because I didn't know that it inflicts non magickal damage. I thought it would be poison damage from it's description lol
honestly; when you had 6 spell slots, you could pack in fast spells and the big show stoppers easily enough. Plus the focused bolts were practically better than a lot of spells too lol So I feel they both are powerful; but DD1 is the more interesting to watch/play as, at least to me.
@@pockystyx4087 agreed, 6 slots is already enough to fit in flexibility where you could put like 2 quick spells, 2 long casting spells, and 2 supporting spells. 4 slots is ridiculous.

I kinda wished that they went ahead and made Mage DDO’s Priest; since its kit is even more support focused, and Sorcerer got to keep its spell variety. Like; we lost Mystic Knight and split up the bow and daggers for reasons of making the vocations more diverse, yet mage and sorcerer still share spells. Hell; some of the mage spells are actually more useful than the sorcerer unique ones to boot.
Only good Sorc spells are Maelstrom(no more draw-in effect or ability to aim where you spawn the Tornado), Bolide, Hagol(Frostbite is the new Torpor), Flare(absurd damage on weakpoints). Salamander is a worse Comestion but can be memeworthy in painting the area in Fire I'd had 3-4 Salamanders going at once. Thundermine is a poor man's Fulmination that stays in one spot. The gutting on Dark magic and other high level spells like Gicel or Fulmination hurts Sorc a lot. Spellhold is a waste of a spell IMO and should of been a Core Action skill and quick cast should of just been for Mage. Fun spells like Necromancy as a Anti-Air defensive spell and Brontide(Thunder Whip) were super cool. What hurts Mages and Sorcs the most is being limited to 4 spell slots instead of 6. Technically they have 5 if you count Anodyne and Galvanize but my Stamina regens fast enough Galvanize is a complete waste. Or you just use spellbooks. >_> Best rotation for Sorc is probably Hagol and then spam Flares. Or Flare + Levin.
The 4 slots spell limitations really hurts magic users class such as Sorcerer, Magick Archer, etc. I don’t know what they were thinking, someone in the dev team actually thought that sheathing/unsheathing weapon is more important to be dedicated in one button. And they also removed manual magic targeting like Comestion entirely. Goodbye Sorcerer.
Less epic and majestic. 🥲 Sorcerers in DD1 are like walking disasters; embodiment of calamity and cataclysm; the spells are felt, heard, and seem powerful; though they need very long time to wreak havoc. In DD2, Sorcerers are … well, just fiercer offensive mages.
No fulmination, no brontide, no gicel, severely reduced holy damage, just no dark and associated array of spells, and 4 skill slots only. I am a wizard class selector at heart, but the only classes i actually like playing here are warrior and archer (and even then they're sparse enough that running warfarer with those two is more fun) in dd2 as their basic attacks are actually varied enough to make up for 4 skills only.
Hello ! I have a quick question : if I start as a mage and unlock High Frigor, will I still be able to use the spell if I use an archistaff as a Sorcerer ? Or is it a spell that you can only use with a mage's staff ?
They made the mage class more powerful and sorcerer weaker. So both classes are more balanced now. I can go with that. For a first playthrough I'll go with mage, then sorcerer in the next one. Of course I'm gonna miss the sorcerer from DD1, they were a freaking force of nature, but in DD2 they are still pretty good and spellcasting is shorter, with that core skill is even shorter, I think would be overkill if we had high bolide, seism and maelstrom in that setting, I wouldn't mind though 😅
Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until I finish showcasing the skills for the upcoming game 'Stellar Blade' before I can return to recording the skills showcase videos for the remaining vocations. By the way, do you like archer skills video? I'll be uploading it in a few hours.
seems more like they "remastered" the class and removed the coolest spells... its a dissapointment cuz i was expecting dd1 ones as well as new additions, it would have been cool to see Charm, summoning or even aura-emitting spells, even a greater version of the dd1 high tier spells would have been awesome such as a large-scale meteor storm or earthquake capable of damaging and stunning the area of an entire city, just imagine being able to summon a Golem, Troll or drake and seeing it pursuing the nearest target while you follow it's lead and loot the corpses until it gets defeated by something stronger
this is just sad while certain things look nice and interesting (all the new spells) it's a shame how few there are and how boring their design actualy is
Keep it up fam best showcase on RUclips, other ones suck cause they talk to much
How could they have reduced the sorcerer to this? It hurts to watch. I'll miss you, Gicel and Fulmination... And many other spells.
Not only that, Exequy, Miasma, Voidspell, and Petrification also gone
