When is a Chataf Patach sounded as a Shva Na?

Thank you! As I understood, it doesn't really matter if I don't remember which niqqud diacritics to put, it's mostly about helping me to read the words? Because when learning the words, I always try to remember which niqqud to place (tzere/seggol/hataf seggol, patach/kamatz/hataf patach/hataf kamatz) and it's the most difficult part for me. So it's OK if I just skip the niqqud and don't bother trying to remember the niqqud as long as I remember how the word sounds in general? I've just started learning Hebrew and I'm learning my first words.

Hi,
What is your goal? Reading or speaking?
Nikkud can help you improve your reading skill. Don't try to memorize the signs and the rules, memorize the sound the signs create.
For example, Pataẖ creates the sound of 'a'. Also Kamatz Gadol. Remember that, do not try to remember when to decorate a letter with either.

@@HebrewWithBen Thanks for replying! I'm learning Hebrew for no specific reason, out of curiosity and because I love learning languages. It is just unusual to me: in the languages I already know, I can fully spell out every word I know. But now with Hebrew, it turns out that I don't need to remember the full writing of a word, just the letters without niqqud. I was just asking if that's actually the case because I thought it's weird. Do native speakers always precisely know every niqqud in every word of their vocabulary?
