the video is really very helpful, i was hesitant towards 3:2 aspect ratio but now I understand the best use for it. Thanks!
You make some important distinctions. Thank you for taking the time to compare and share.
Aha! 16:9 for movies and 3:2 for work. Way more lines on spreadsheets. Makes perfect sense. Great video! Thanks!
Always interesting topics, thank you for the video.
Glad you like it!
Great video! I just bought the surface book 3 3:2 and it feels so much better to work on after my macbook. Suits perfect for my needs.
I found it sad over the years that they dropped 16/10 for 16/9 because you feel you loose so much height, especially on a laptop. It is due to the cost of fabrication, but otherwise it's a big loss for any use. 3/2 is even better. For the work and everything else it's top comfort. Although they are very rare, and I don't think they have much compatibility for gaming, which is sad. Imagine a 3.2 28.3 screen with 3840*2460 resolution, the definition must be so beautifull to the eye.
Finally a great video about aspect ratios in laptops! Awesome work!
Yes, I think there's actually no other comparison video on youtube? That's pretty strange! Thanks!
I really appreciate your clear pronunciation along with interesting content.
That's great to hear!
*robotic pronunciation.
@@edimarjunior572 this is good for non-native speakers.
Thanks for this video. I was so confused about which one to choose but after watching this, i know the 3: 2 is what i need.
Great! I'm glad to be able to help!
thank you for your detailed explanation and recommendations at the end of the video.
3:2 QHD is the best for anything mobile! 3:2 is the best compromise between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio, and QHD is the best balance between FHD and 4K UHD display resolution. Of course, 16:10 may be better for Gaming Laptops for PC games that don't scale well with 3:2. I love my HP Spectre x360 14 laptop with a 3:2, QHD, OLED display, I don't mind black bars at all watching 21:9 widescreen movies.
Great content, thank you! I know now I need the 3:2
Great!
Super video. I was looking for something like this. Great work. Keep it up!

@@w2best Welcome..Please keep it up...
Great review, I will have an external 16:9 monitor when at home so you made my mind up to go for 3:2 ratio to help when mobile for work, so I will get best of both worlds 🙂

I got my dell inspiron plus the problem i encountered watching netflix wid a huge bezel up and down.. wat setting do u think sir i wll use to adjust and make it full screen
Awesome and informative video¡
16 : 10 is the closest to the golden ratio (16.18 : 10). But 3:2 adds extra space vertically (or removes space horizontally), but you get space for the task bars.
I love 16:10!!!
Great review as always! But don't forget about the difference in the size of the trackpads.
How does that affect the screen usage? Oh you mean there's space for more trackpad? I didn't even think about that aspect!! Great input!
@@w2best Yes, that's exactly what I had in mind. :)
and the width of the keyboard too
Thanks for this informative video. Personally, I can switch between 16:10 and 3:2 and I like both of them. I would go for a 16:9 if the screen was 15.6 or larger, but after using 14-inch screens with 16:10 and 3:2 it's quite difficult going back to a 13.3 inch with 16:9 screen because it feels tiny!
I feel exactly the same! I'm using 14" 16:10 and 15,6" 16:9 right now and really like them both. But smaller 16:9 would be hard!
@@w2best Have you tried the new Dell Inspiron 7000 with a 14.5 (16:10 QHD) panel? It's very impressive considering it comes with high-end specs and a reasonable price.
@@brainactivity737 No but pretty keen to do so :)
help me 🙏🏻, I need a laptop to work, but I'm confused about whether to choose a 14-inch 16:10 or 16:9 screen, a difficult choice because so far I've been using a 16-inch 16:9 screen
@@HafidzMF 16:10 is a great choice for productivity and media consumption. 16:9 is a bit dated for a laptop at this point.
Help me choose between two laptops both oled 2.8k resolution at same cost
1. 600 nits + pixel shift tech+ 720 p cam
2. 400nits +1440p cam and next gen processor + con: exhaust vents facing towards screen
My concerns is oled may damage without pixel shift and heat in later but is lucrative
Liked, wonderful video.
Have you by chance also focused on movies, with those aspect ratios?
You mean watching movies? I really think that 16:9 is the best there :)
Your pronunciation is soo good. I understand everything you say 🙈👍 (I am from Germany, so often I have problems to understand everything)
Thank you so much! That is super good feedback to get! :)
The only tip I have is that aspect ratios are spoken as "three TO two" and not "three BY two" as using 'by' would imply dimensions, not a ratio.
Only Gaming and movies = 16:9
Only Gaming and work and editing = 16:10
Only Work and editing = 3:2
I totally agree on this!
good work showing pros and cons of each. no perfect answer, depends on primary usage
It certainly does!
I think 16:10 and 3:2 will raplace all Laptops with 16:9 in the near future. Almost all new Lenovo Notebooks will come with 16:10.
16:9 is for multimedia consuming but also very important for desktop monitors because of big size.
The 16:9 was just a marketing idea in mobile devices category (such as Notebook) for many years ago but today the consumers realize - this aspect ratio is not so comfortable to work, whriting, reading and browsing.
I think you're right! 16:9 make less and less sense in a laptop screen!
this. I always had 16:10 laptops, last was the T61p, 1920x1200, it was comfortable for all things graphics. I got a more powerful W520 later but the 16:9 is just not comfy.
even on a desktop a pair of 16:10 displays is a good thing, both on gaming, video, browsing or working on graphic stuff.
@@SilverSpoon_ The only downside is gaming, most of recent games will shrunk the image to fit on 16:10. But I don't play games, so I don't care, 16:10 is the way to go!
Yep anything I go from my 16/10 to a 16/9, I feel like my head is being winzip. I feel almost like you have to compress yourself, you neck and shoulder. It's so unnatural. People did not really realise this on desktop as screen became cheaper and cheaper and you can afford a 24 or 27 inch screen for the price of a 19" back to few years ago. But when you compare side by side, a 24" 16/10 is as high as a 27" 16/9, which does not feel right. 16/9 should at minimum be 30" to feel comfortable. But still I prefer the 16/10 aspect ratio. 16/9 is too flatened.
@@w2best is it good for moviews
good video, thanks
I'm glad you like it!
Great explanation. Move the taskbar to the left or right side of the screen and you will get more views horizontally.
Also easier to work with the taskbar from side rather than the bottom. Take some time to adjust but worth it.
that's an interesting tip that I've never done but for a 16:9 aspect ratio I can see it makes sense. :)
u can not do that in windows 11
Could you make a video for the best laptops for creators? I'm talking digital artists animators and video editors? I just can't decide which laptop to get. And maybe inclusw a few convertibles in it
It hasn't been my focus yet but if i make a few reviews and think i have the Intel - I'll do it.
I too am a fan of the 3:2 aspect ratio displays. Both my Surface Pro 8 and external monitor have that ratio. I can read a lot of papers for my research through these screens lol.
Very interesting!

Very timely, as I am now considering whether Lenovo 16:9 FHD will do, now that they are being offered with Ryzen 7 4750 in the UK. I think it will do for me! 3:2 would be better, but 16:9 will do. Thanks for the side by side comparison. Have you used a ThinkPad 14s Gen 1 Ryzen 4750?
So far i haven't used any thinkpad! I've been eyeing the thinkbook for some time. That has 16:10! But 4750 seems great! That's 8 core 16 thread? Power house!

3:2 is good for .pdf display or music display. In portrait mode.
Is the text clearer to read?
Hello, im looking for a laptop to consume media when sitting in the hotel room in the evening after work. Im interested in the Slim 7 4700u version but there seem to be a slim 7 pro variant on the horizon with 16:10 display, 5600H prozessor and imroved cooling. do you think its worth to wait for it? Or is the 16:9 aspect ratio better anyway for browsing web, watching videos and palying some light games from time to time?
Also im wondering how the slim 7 behaves when placed on a bed or a couch, blocking the airflow while playing a video for example.
Consuming media is not so taxing. You won't need any beefy cpu for that so a 5600h or even 4700u is a bit of overkill! You can go i5 or 4500u to keep the price down. I think yoga slim 7 pro is great if you need the performance and the screen, but in your case i wouldn't be too bothered about it
Perfect topic.

You have a great Channel, you really do. The video isn't actually smaller in the non 16:9 though is it? It just give it a smaller appearance.
It's def a bit smaller since the screens are not as wide. But the difference isn't huge.
@@w2best 16:10 isn't as wide as 16:9? I did't know that. Thanks.
@@AirrowRocket Sorry, in that case they are the same and some added pixels on the height. Then in the 3:2 it's not as wide.
@@w2best Understood. Thanks.
I agree, 3:2 is my favorite too. I use a surface book 2 15. By the way, JFY, a 16:9 video on a 15in laptop is a 14in video (note that a 15in screen is not a 15.6in screen, which is typicall a 16:9 size)
most likely because it's maximum resolution is 3260x2160 which is most likely 3:2 , if you using the Recommended resolution on the desktop which is most likely 3:2 and trying to run a 16:9 video on it, then yes it will not be on full screen, you will need to convert the video to 3:2 first to have it on your fullscreen, that will however either stretch it or will make it longer, 1 of 2 , a way without stretching/making longer also exist but it's the "cut here and cut here" way, basically losing certain parts of the video, in other words just don't bother and use it as it is.
@@cskillers1 the resolution is not important, it can be higher or lower, it’s the aspect ratio that matters, there is not much point in deforming a video just to fill the screen, what I was saying was just that in a 15in 3.2 display you will see a video which is 14in diagonal (so exactly the same size as a 14in 16.9)

Like the taller screen better. Only thing I missed about Apple 😊.
3:2 and 16:10 was the best aspect ratio in my opinion because more comfort for people who code and write a loong script on their computer and it's just more comfortable than 20:9 because it doesn't take long to drag your mouse from the other side of the screen

The best aspect ratio for work is old good 4:3 :) In 2004 I had Dell Inspiron with perfect 15" 1600x1200 LCD
1920*1200 is 16:10 no?

@@cbm80amiga sadly 4:3 it's not most apps objective, so some apps may not fit well
You achieved 38 of spreadsheet lines not just because of the 3:2 ratio, but because you did not visually equalize the size of the characters (text on the Huawei laptop is much smaller than on the other two).
But for sure there is no doubt that the 3:2 ratio is better for productivity as it actually shows more text lines.
It's very true. Not the best planning of that part, but i think the point got across still.
Two aspects that also contribute to screen space for documents and such are resolution and scaling. The difference between the 3:2 and 16:10 in this example are not equal representations of these aspects. I can tell by the sizes of the tabs
A QHD or 4K resolution will show more rows on the same aspect ratio than a 1080p.
Btw talking about "higher" aspect ratios, 16:9 is higher than 3:2
(use calculator if u dont believe, 1,7... > 1,5)
but actually it's wider :D
It's like a word-play but can be confusing
I'm actually referring to taller. It's a hard thing to not be a native English speaker sometimes...
@@w2best Don't worry, I understand. And I also know that feeling :D
3:2 for productivity, 2:1 for entertainment. Can we just standardize everything on these two?
The comparison seems flawed as the Huawei laptop clearly uses higher resolution, since there are not only more rows in the spreadsheet visible, but also more columns. You should have set all laptops to the same horizontal resolution to show the height difference in applications (with scaling set to the same value in Windows)
That is true and I'm def not saying it's perfect and mention the different resulting several times. But I don't aim to show the exact number of lines so the principle still applies. :) It's the same windows scaling though.
MacBook seems to be even better because it has 1600 lines :) In such test there should be fonts the same size in milimeters used to be fair.
@@cbm80amiga i agree. If i had the opportunity to buy more laptops i would make it completely apples to apples. I'm to small and have to work with what I have. :)
So 3:2 vs 3.2:1.8 vs 3.2:2 aspect ratios
thanks
4:40 That is not a fair comparison :p On the 3:2 screen you can see more colums, You should zoom in a little. There is not a huge difference between 16 :10 and 3:2.
16:10 is the most perfect because it's the closest aspect ratio to the golden ratio!
I love it too!!
Hi! Which one is best for Power BI?
I'm not sure, I'm not much of a power BI user.
so is 16:10 actually larger screen surface area than 16:9?
Indeed it is. You get extra pixels in the height :)
@@w2best But horizontal pixels are reduced in 16:10?
@@andrew007s No they the same usually.
most IDEs (code editors programmers use) usually have 2-3 vertical columns: navigation, main editing space, support info/tools. and a few horizontal info lines: file-edit-view-help toolbar, some app specific toolbar, path bar, maybe one support line in the bottom.
and for me all this looks very crammed in 3:2. very tall spaces but not wide enough to fill long words/phrases/paths/code.
and quite a bunch of programmers would still use 16:9/16:10 for productivity. but maybe once we see more 3:2 coming, IDEs will change and adapt too
When with a 3:2 with higher resolution? I feel like I have tons of space in all my applications with it. But I'm not a programmer. So i can't talk about that and be true.
@@w2best higher res results into smaller fonts, I have bad eyesight so I have to scale all elements up and get the same situation on any display :)
16:10 is the way to go!
nice
Which is best from 16:9 or 16:10
I clearly prefer 16:10!
By the way, I used to avoid 3:2 screens because of the huge black bars you get when you watch videos. But with all honesty, you just get used to them, it's like watching a movie in the cinema. Also, on Netflix you will always get movies with different aspect ratios, so even if you have a 16:9 you will still get the black bars. But the 3:2 shines when it comes to productivity, it really makes a difference. And with the Huawei Matebook, you also have a QHD screen which makes everything looks sharper and nicer.
I think 16:10 is a nice balance! I really enjoy it in my slim 7 pro now!
@@w2best Damn it! When did the slim 7 pro come out? I waited ages for it but I was so annoyed by the delays that I just gave up on it. I agree that 16:10 is a sweet spot.
@@brainactivity737 The one I have was made available about a month ago. Only with i5 though. No AMD yet. :(
I'll never go back from 16/10 unless I find a nice 3/2 in maybe 10 or 15 years, if my screen every break.
I love my 3:2
A good comparison. Be careful, your content is full of self-contradictions. You have associated high aspect ratio with high (tall) screen dimension or perhaps largest screen area. It is an easy mix-up to make. Your preferred 3:2 is the lowest aspect ratio in your comparison, not the highest. 16:9 = 1.7, 16:10 = 1.6, 3:2 = 1.5 It was very confusing for this listener trying to replace parts of the commentary with your intended meaning. Still, an informative video.
I think that's because of being a non native English speaker. It doesn't matter if i try. I probably couldn't get all of that right anyhow... I realized a few mistakes when i was editing but working hard on not being too perfectionist.
Early laptops used to be 3:2.. when computers used to be primarily for professionals.
I love your plants
Oh thank you! :)
Still using a 4:3 laptop here.
computer screens started as 4 by 3, then the world went nuts about 10 years ago and manufactures started making this ridiculous wide screens where you can't see any vertical content.. God! They were even marketing it as a selling point "super wide screen" nonsense.. apps will then take some space from the top and bottom of the screen and you end up with 10 lines of document.. and when you put a vertical photo on a screen you find that's smaller than on an ipad. hah!! we're just rediscovering the wheel here but I'm glad manufacturers are getting some common sense back..
yes it started out 4:3, then to 16:10 then finally 16:9 in the last 12 years, now they are going back to 16:10
They made the 3:2 laptop instead of 4:3
if the screens have the same width who cares about the bottom or top bars of 3:2? less scrolling = KING
In the 3:2 they don't have the same weight as 16:9 or 16:10. But i agree. Higher screen is great!
I just want an 3:2 with an 3050Ti, 90% work and 10% gaming :D
or with an 3060
3:2 is better
16: 10 aspect ratio is the new 16:9.
but if you edit photos in 16:10 wouldn't it look differently on 16:9 screens as presumably most of your customers would have 16:9
As long as you edit the files in whatever resolution the photo should be there is no difference. That's not related to aspect ratio.
3:2 no brainer.
