    I pulled a Peerless with mechanical neck and the old bed did a pretty good job but when we upgraded to a new trailer with a hydraulic neck that was the end of the crash & bang as well as related driveline stress, it was a costly upgrade though.

    When you were loading the dozer toward the start of the video, I think I saw an old White water tank truck. I've always thought those were some of the best looking trucks. Too bad we rarely see them restored. That tall narrow front grill was sure good looking. Many had the cast-iron wheels with fancy cast aluminum hub caps, or chrome hub caps. I hope the example you had came to a good end.

    I used to use custom ramps for the dolly. Back up the scraper on the dolly first, chain it down, then load on the jeep. To unload, unchain the head, unload from the jeep, back up a ways, unchain the jeep, use the ramps and drive forward off the dolly. The dolly ramps were aluminum. With a good swamper, from pulling up to the job, knocking off the dirt, removing apron bar, push block pin, load and drive away would usually take 45 minutes. We used the same ramps for the jeep and dolly ( just drag them a little).

    • @Jpaydirt
      @Jpaydirt  2 года назад

      push pull won't load on the jeep if the ass is on the dolly, it won't clear the push plate. we bought some murray long ramps and there like half the weight of the ones in this video, we've got in down to about 30 minutes to load with out removing the the apron bar or push block pin, question: why remove the apron rod?

    @jpaydirt sorry about the typo. I ment Murray has the line on RGN trailers. Murray's ramps are superior to the others. They sell the kit you can install yourself or have them do it. I notice back east they use mostly hydralic set ups. Most the guys I know, myself included try to load over the back when ever we can. That is a nice trailer you have.

  • @dgarr64
    @dgarr64 12 лет назад +2

    @gangesexcavating Murray has line on ramps/ roller neck trailers. Suprisingly breakage on these set ups are very minimal . The only time I've ever had a problem stabbing a trailer is on really soft ground. Out here in Ca we try to load as much as possable over the rear of the trailer.

    I've got mech neck set up like cozad and love it but you have to have low reverse gears. Ten speed is not good lowboy trans. Need 2spd rears or 4 spd brownie behind it. But no hyd to maintain and these trailers have the best load to weight ratio.

  • @michaelmccaffrey2731
    @michaelmccaffrey2731 2 года назад

    If you slide those blocks under the back of the jeep before driving it off, you'll save the trailer neck. The only reason I know is because I used to be a welder fabricator on lowboys before I started hauling.

    no reason to hit that trailer so hard backing into it. put a 2" block under the trailer before you disconnect and you won't have to slam it around like that. Glad that isn't my equipment.

    • @Jpaydirt
      @Jpaydirt  8 лет назад +22

      +Eric Johnson Have you ever operated a Murray with the metal on metal ramps, they suck. I believe thats why they got rid of them, I have the kit to change the lower ramps over to a roller set up, but I will have to close the jeep to make it work, I have tried the block method but when you place 50 ton directly on it , it will usually just smash into the ground, so when loading in a really bad traction area I sometimes have to back under as far as I can and then block up and hope it doesn't sink back into the ground and then take another stab at it, a power tower would be even better, I had a trucking buddy who pulled this trailer all over the U.S. and he had many years experiance with this type of Lowboy, And he didn't like it either, He's gone to Heavy Haul Heaven now, but the one thing I learned from him was this, "Nobody like's a cry baby" so I just use what I've got and deal with it ☻

    • @ericjohnson7577
      @ericjohnson7577 8 лет назад +4

      +jpaydirt yes I have operated numerous Murray trailers and that is one thing I do not like about their early design. I never like watching guys back into them like that though. Watched a guy load a 637 on one and couldn't get back under it. slammed into it at what seemed like 20 mph and it slid off the ramps. Not sure how much that mess cost him but it was ugly ugly damage. I built 14x14 pads I would set mine down on. Very rare that they sank in the ground and that 3" of pad made the world of difference.

    • @kaleip
      @kaleip 9 лет назад

      Not too sure on any patents think there is history between all those names supposedly Murry had originally had round holes on their trailers ernie sibert had it out with one of the cozads started sibert trailers and so on they all have similar designs but Murray trailers were building for themselves before they became for sale basically giving the idea away for free . I learned on a 8ft sibert narrow neck and now I pull a Murray wide neck professional 16 tire expando 8.5 foot I hated it at first breaking down but I'm far from a pro hauler but I've grown to like it a bit every load is different as of now rackley is busy as hell and the others don't seem to be as busy I do like their designs and modern ideas

    Why the twin stacks? 1693 was in line 6. Even T's and TA's only had one stack. Our Autocar DC series ran 1693T's except for one we upgraded in shop to TA. While the 1693's ran RT125-10' with a 3 and over auxiliary, the one we upgraded had a RT125-13 in front of the 3 and over. All were equipped with Spicer Power Towers and Bradden 60T winches. One of the job site haulers used 1700 Series Spicer u-joints and we did have a lot of problems with drive shafts. However, that problem was solved when I caught the driver killing the engine and setting the park brakes with the truck in gear while the truck was still moving. He was fired a few days later. The other trucks used 1810 Spicer joints and we had no problem with their drive shafts. I do wonder why your truck is equipped with SQ 100's. Seems quite a bit light. All the Autocars had either SSHD or SQHD axles.

      ccryder1149 The real question you should be asking is, How is it that a 81 KW has a 1693 in it? hmmm. Duals Rule!

    • @ccryder1149
      @ccryder1149 10 лет назад

      Well, you are indeed right about that. My heavy equipment days are from the mid 70's. We had some serious HD trucks. The driver of the 1693 TA passed me at 90 mph with a gross weight load of 120K. The heaviest (that I know of) we sent out grossed 160K. Permits? We didn't need no stinkin' permits. Actually, we moved so many permit loads that the dispatcher called the state as the truck was leaving the yard!

      MultiMonster69 They have to do that to get under the neck of the trailer. Picking all of the weight at the same time. Otherwise they would spin tires. The new style of trailers no longer need that because of RGN (Removable goose neck) trailer types.

      +copperheadmarine The 1693 Cat was available at 325hp and was turbo only. The 1694 was turbo and intercooler at 375 and 425hp. The 1693 was way better engine than a 335 Cummins - better pull on the hills and fuel mileage for the time I had it but wrecked in in March 1973. Then I got a 1694 425 hp and it was even a bigger Horse. It would smoke a 400 Cummins in the hills and and stay right with the KT450 Cummins. I add Centrifical oil filter and took off the Luberfiner after I saw one cut open and it was filled with saw dust. The Centrifical was driving with air pressure and would spin the dirt and carbon out of the oil. The canister had a paper liner in it and when the canister would not get hot it was time to change the filter. Nobody would have made me believe what was in that oil until I say it with my own eyes. I got 700k out of the engine and the dealer over hauled it before they sold it to the next guy. GREAT ENGINE made even better by that oil filter system.
