Insurance companies are run to make profit. It is called Capitalism. Florida like California has been hit with much property damage over the years . California was first by earthquake, the drought which caused fires then heavy rain which caused landslides . Florida is having its turn by storm damage . Also residents and construction companies worked together to put in many false claims in Florida. The Florida government allowed the construction companies to take insurance companies to court and the insurance companies folded.

Since I had zero usage ( long story ).....anywho, I was told it was to bring it up to 25.00 per customer fee, so Every Floridan will pay 25.00 to have that power in your name......can you imagine.
Then I did some snooping and you can Google this yourselves ,not only do the FPSC regulates the power but, natural gas , water, and waste water industries in the entire state along with some telecommunications !!! Now I know why when one goes up they all go up..... friggin jerks.....In 2021 they made 620 million in profits and 2022 they made 763 million in profits . They're all staffed with incompetent diversity hires who do the bare minimum work for bare minimum pay. Their turnover rates are always stupidly high. It was only when I noticed their complete lack of standards that I began to question how it all worked. Turns out they just needed to spend dollars on marketing to meet budget laws, which can only mean they werent concerned about the message or the cost.
I eventually looked up one of the CEOs and found her entire IG feed loaded with images of her on vacations in spain, italy, france, bahamas, etc. Then I found out that her nonprofit applied exactly the legal bare minimum of their donations to their supposed cause. Then I found out that find that very CEO was also engaged to a city councilman here in CLE. This was a Black Woman Owned nonprofit that was supposed to help innercity black folks. Turns out it was just a money-making scam that recycled grants back into the pockets of politicians, nothing more.

I live in Okeechobee fl. New house out in the lake area. Not on the lake but 1 mile from it. I will now have to have flood insurance even though I am not in a flood zone. (Even with the lake close by). The lake is not the coastline. But now I will have to pay. Ok fine. People say self insure. Fine if you have your property Paid in full, but not when you have a mortgage. Insurance is required. So you have to accept the industry the way it is. No one in any form of govt. will help the insurance companies lose money!. What people see to forget is you have to pay a premium to live in paradise. Florida is great but we are a very stormy state, period. I knew. Getting into ownership that I could suffer some form of a disaster where I live. The storms here are getting more and more intense by the years. And to add insult to injury, we now have tornados in florida. That’s something Floridians never had to worry about 20 years ago. The Mafia would be embarrassed by the tactics that the Insurance companies use. It is a protection racket that does not pay out. At least with the Mafia, if you paid for protection, you were protected from other thugs. Insurance companies always bemoan a one or two years loss but never mention the other years where they made huge profits. My advice is buy a block home with at least storm shutters below what you can afford, pay it off as soon as possible, then drop the insurance and then save the money for more than likely will just be a new roof. That roof you saved up for would be forced to be purchased after fifteen years even if you were insured. As far as fraud, did you know if insurance companies lose a lawsuit where there were legally responsible for a claim, they still write it off as "fraud". I would purchase flood insurance right now because in my zone, it is still reasonable.

Here is the Question. we have 35 acres in Northwest Florida, I want to sell be debt free and get a RV to live in, or a small mobile home owe nothing on it, Wife wants to stay here because of the kids which are teenagers now and we do not see them that much they are doing their own things, so what would you do? Stay be in debt be near a city, or move be debt free middle of 35 acres? Did tell my wife it our insurance go up we cannot afford to live here, I refuse to go into any more debt or higher bills

The state of Florida has a lot of insurance loop hole laws that cause fraudulent claims. I worked in the auto SIU claims industry on the auto side. Basically you use a repair facility that doesn't work with or agree to the insurance companies rates. These shops collect these claims over time then sue the insurance companies. The policy holder names are being used in these suites unknown by the policy holders. Don't have experience on home owners side but imagine the same thing is playing role and building material cost have gone up dramatically. Litigation cost is likely playing a very large role in this.

A couple thousand increase for the year is unusual. But most people with big houses like that, you figure they can afford it. This young lady comes off as a bit of a griper. I could see if an senior citizen on a fixed income would have more to complain about.

Smh I’m glad that floridans and Texans are going through the same thing. Now we all in the same boat. Don’t matter if you live in NY, California, you paying what everyone else paying, wether they are renter or homeowner. 8,000 a year imagine that only on insurance. My one bed room apartment in NY with patio is 1,400 a month. No taxes, no home owners insurance, no property taxes.

Just started pricing insurance for next year. Citizens, is trying to get people off that plan, and I would like to do so. Like the woman in this story, I, too, had Security First Insurance but I did not have any claims. Last year they attempted to raise me over 100%. Unfortunately, so far the least expensive plan I've been able to find is almost double my current premium. I don't live in a flood area, I have done everything to hurricane-proof my house - impact windows and doors, new roof - and had a wind mitigation done by inspector. Five point inspection done by a professional - electric, HVAC, water pipes, etc and passed with flying colors.

I've never filed a claim. It's criminal what politicians are doing to this country. What's next? Will our homes burn to the ground, too?

and absolutely no help from florida government in Tallahasse , or DeSantis,, or channel 4 jacksonville,

Finally these homeowners are having to foot the bill for the past losses in these areas. If you want to live in low lands near the 'Florida coast you will need to put up more money to help pay the total cost of all the Hurricanes that have been hitting there on an increasing frequency. Sea level is rising every year also. Get out of there unless you want to pay more. I am sure the rates will even be higher on there next renewal. Rates just continue to go up as one disaster after another continues. The future is only going to get worse as storms get bigger and more frequent

You know the strongest Hurricane to ever hit FL was in 1935. If you took away the one spike in activity in 2004, it would be almost identical across the board from 1944 to now. Hurricane cycles fluctuate every 4 decades or so.
