Doc Parsons's grandson seems to know exactly what he wants and he seems like he’s been working with his papa for most of his life. I think is so awesome! Our next generation of ranchers and farmers will be great at what they do because they have had great role models.

    • @Saltysteele

if they're a good role model, they'll steer the children into other career fields and not farming. Bust your ass and get paid like a gas station attendant

Interesting, he came across to me as trying too hard to prove something, stand-off-ish, in a better than you I’m king shite, standing up stiff to seem taller, yep, kids gotta learn to chill. His arrogance hides blaring insecurity!

Jesse Hachey, I disagree. He is proud. Yes he wants people to know he is proud but I certainly don't think he is arrogant!

I really liked to see the Vet's grandson assisting his grandfather. He will learn so much by making rounds with his grandfather. The young man was working the shoot and gates really well. Maybe he will become a Vet too. That kid was raised right - when he speaks to men he says, "Yes, Sir." He's a great kid - we need many more just like him.

Seeing Brandon involved with his family business, assisting Doc, hearing him share what he’s learning was really great. He’s a young man that’s been brought up right, shows respect & is not afraid of hard work. He has a strong foundation to develop into being able to accomplish whatever the world puts in front of him. I had a totally different experience a couple of weeks ago. A retired Marine Vietnam vet & local volunteer on our fire dept. came by to see if he could earn some money (at a fair price) cutting apart an old maple tree that had come down in Dec in a severe windstorm. I went out one morning & returned to see him loading some of the wood into his trailer & there were 2 boys (10 & 12), sitting inside the truck, playing on their phones! They’re his grandsons & had gotten tired of the work, so they quit. I had a talking to the boys, about respecting there grandfather & they about spit in my face. Talked some more to the guy & got some of the back story. Went back to the boys & they gave me the finger! They locked themselves in the truck & I gave them a piece of my mind. Then they jumped out of the truck & ran off the property. Feel bad for the man, his daughter has got her hands full, father not in the picture. I feel worse for the kids, the road they are heading on usually doesn’t end well. I did give the kids something I hope they will think about - when they pas & stand in front of our Lord & are asked why they disrespected there grandfather so badly, what was their response going to be? I’m sure the shrug they gave me won’t be an acceptable answer!

Doc's shoot system is awesome. Doc Parson is a real special guy helping you out with your herd in so many ways. His grandson is going to be so much like him. Brandon is so respectful of his elders and has his head on straight. It is shame to say that this young man is rare to see somebody whose conduct is that way. It is so cool to see a family that is so tight and giving to each other family member.

Big Joe was a perfect gentleman today. He worked so well and from what I saw on the video he was about as calm as Bison can be. His demeanor shows so much about your management style in working with bison. He definitely showed that he was king of the Ponderosa and expects to be treated as royalty. Big things are coming to the Ponderosa. Looks like the Dunbar group out smarted you this time. It is so satisfying to see animals demonstrate their intelligence. Keep up the good work. I noticed that working the Dunbar herd was a bit calmer too. Was it quieter, less metal banging, or was the sound modulated during editing? The herd seemed less agitated. Good job, Dusty! Training the Dunbar herd to eat in the pens, so they'll be easy to catch when needed! Did you notice in this video, how they bunched up at the sharp corner going into the chute area, but moved smoothly along the curved fences in the exit area on the way out? You need curves on the way in, too! Watch the movie, "Temple Grandin" for lots of good ideas on how to set up facilities to keep stock calm and moving smoothly.

Just getting a chance to watch this video ! Always enjoy the day of working the Bison . It’s a show for sure ! Add ins to the handling system worked great .. catwalk was a great add on ! Dunbar always gives a show for his time on camera, and comes out in a slow walk with his tail up like he’s ready to rumble ! I thought Big Joe was going to tackle the big gate again , but he didn’t ... did his time through the shoots and jumped out of the gate ready to rumble also ! These 2 Bulls are a show of their own , and know they run the place ! Glad all are safe and a good day ! Thank you for the 4th time seeing the Herd..’Herds’ being worked ! Never disappointed in a video ! Glad Dusty has such a Posse of family and friends to add to the show !!

I hope your Easter was blessed with time for rest and sleep as well as being with family. Your eyes spoke of the physical and emotional stress of the day. I hope you can be kinder (you are mentally beating yourself up) to yourself as you go through the "learning" and improving at both locations. Your core supporters of family, friends and Doc Parsons are amazing. Your love and appreciation for them and your dedication, caring and concern for your herds shine through in all you do! Blessed be.

I like watching your videos. You are very down to earth and thanking a lot of people who help you. You are very luck to have family and friends to help you work the bison. Like someone said you are a great role model. I grew up near a bison farm in northern Wisconsin. It was great to drive by to see the bison. Thanks for what you do!

In Europe farmers open up the shed and a herd of bulls will walk to the pasture all on their own. They get taught the route and its not simple and quite far. They also know when to return and can manage. They only have to be told when they want to stay outside. No yelling, no noisy clatter, no handling. That must work on their nerves because they have good hearing. Even young children would supervise them, but only in case of predators. You know Bavaria, yodeling etc. Nobody even touches a bull. He knows what he s supposed to do.

For as stocky and powerful as they are they sure do trot gracefully! Even the big lad, Joe! I love the slow-mo shots of them running.
That hydraulic race and squeeze mobile unit seems like ana amazing piece of equipment!

Thank you Dusty for sharing your bison journey. Gives me hope for the future. What a fine young man Brandon is!
I have a suggestion for a name for your original bison ranch: "PONDEROSA PRIME".

Wow! That handler is incredible! Seemed so much easier and safer for you all. But they were calmer when you started so theres that. I guess they make a permanent automatic system but must be expensive. Something to work for. Real enjoyable video! Thanks for sharing! Love 👍❤ Brandon is an awesome young man and Dr Parson thumbs up!

I gotta say I sure wish we had that chute system Doc Parson’s has when we worked the cattle on the farm. It’s a great system. It’s always nice to have that big job done without anyone or animal getting hurt.

I watch all these videos and my husband peeks over my shoulder shakes his head “no, 3 Great Danes and a bison will not play nice in the backyard”. We totally live on the edge of super small town in central Iowa, our yard backs to a corn field…I’ll talk him into it. Lol
