If you do the old Atkins diet you will like it so much better. You can have some veges and salad. I think it is from the 60's. Carnivore diet is really not that great. I know as I have always been a meat eater but I also like a bit of salad! Just saying look into it. I love the bison meats I get from you! It is amazing. 👍💖🌴The Endy family from NE Florida.

Truthfully, hot wire fencing for bison and for that matter most cattle is nothing that will stop them, once they've gotten out once by breaking the wire, they will continue to break through no matter how many volts of electricity is going through them, BECAUSE they quickly figure -out once the wire is broken the "ZAPPING PRODUCING THE PAIN", STOPS i've know cattle go through 3 fences deep of hot wire, it's more effective to put up taller then the livestocks chest height wooden fences, painted white, they rarely will mess with that from of fencing

LOL You said, "and it takes good too", and Lucy said practically the same thing too before she got drunk, "And it's tasty too"! Hilarious! OK, I'm old... Bummer on the hot wire issue, but it'll probably happen again (and again).

Learned in RN school, In The late 1970's, to be well hydrated 1 hour before the exercise, hike playing a sport, etc. Then keep drinking 4-8 oz every half hour. Remember, when your mouth is dry, you are ALREADY Dehydrating... glad you were taught these ideas...
Kinda interesting watching Big Joe STRUT through the opening!!!
    Good catch!
Think about tieing an orange "flag"... on each section, top towards the left T post & the bottom hot wire, tie one near the right T post. That's so each segment has two flags, spaced not too far apart. Maybe even tio one atop the T posts!!! Just trying to help y'all!

    Hey Dusty,
I've been following your channel from your starter herd to now and then sync that with joining the low carb community (Carnivore/ketovore) to be exact. Welcome to my hood. 🎉 You've got a great meal source. I hope you check out the OGs in the community as this is helpful. For example Dr. Berry and Dr. Hampton and others. Just know your reason why you want to make this food management change and you'll stick to it for the right reasons for your wellness needs. I started the low carb journey 3 years ago and feel healthier than I've ever been for a 66 year old retiree. I'm down 120 lbs and cholesterol and bp numbers are golden. Staying the lifestyle keeps my osteoarthritis from flaring, my mind sharp, and sleep deep. There's a host of benefits you and your wife will personally witness. Love your channel. As you say, keep bison ranching sir.😊 Hope the hot wire system improves. P.S I just love that Eleanor and Bullet since I lost my doxie to old age and illness last year. Can't wait for your coming adventures with your horses. 😊

  • @jimjenandi
    @jimjenandi Месяц назад +19

Dusty, your keepers(insulators) are on the wrong side of the fence. You want the keepers holding the wire on the side that your animals (bison) are on.
In the last video I noticed it and when the bison would push on the wire they just popped out of the keepers. My Mom taught me this as a young girl.
We had horses though. We also put strips of fabric on the wires themselves in-between the t-posts so the wire is more visible!!
Also, the tougher the hide the less chance they will feel the zap!! If they touch the wire with their nose or ears they will definitely get the Zap!! Our cows never respected the hot wire fence.
Always make sure the grass under the wire isn't grounding it out!! With our horses after finding what grounded out the wire and fixing it we'd grab a piece of wire with rubber handled pliers and touch the hot fence with it. They'd hear the pop sound and stay away cuz they knew the wire was hot again!! I don't know if id try that with your fence though as its way higher voltage then ours ever were!!

Dusty, I have been a carnivore for a long hot minute. One of the first things I noticed was that my inflammation went away, and all my fibromyalgia pain was gone. Then my Triglyceride dropped over 100 points in 3 weeks, and my doctor was shocked at that. My blood work has never been better. The cherry on top and the thing I am most excited about is that my IBS went completely away. Make sure you eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full because you are not getting extremely low carbohydrates in your body calories are not a problem. Eating enough food is the main focus, especially for you and Melissa because you are doing this for health. This is a way of eating and not a weight loss, although you can lose weight on it and significant weight. For me, I am having to learn to eat a lot more food to be able to lose weight. Trust me you will never feel better than you do when you eat carnivores. The LMNT will come in handy when first starting out once a day. Well because you guys are always out in the sun you might continue to drink it. I just salt my meat heavily. Partially, because my blood pressure is in the low end of perfection and salt is needed to keep it there. At least you have a great source of meat to eat!

I eat veggies when we are guests or when we have the occassional "dinner out". 2 years ago I had a severe arthritis attack and it lasted for 6 months. Because I prefer to heal my body rather than treat the symtems with medications, an animal based life style (meat, seafood, fish, eggs, some dairy) was the answer. My blood work is excellent! I am now 71 years old and going strong!

Fences are only suggestions to Bison, but you know that. The corral pipe fencing is the only place they couldn't overpower or jump if they chose to. Hanging more strips of vinyl survey flagging on the hot wire might help to make the fence more visible to them until they learn to respect it.

If the middle third of the post is protected because of the wire, but the top is not they are going to learn very quickly that they can pop the wire off by just bending the top of the post.
The other thing, thick fur is very good at moving the charge to the outside. Charge wants to be away from the center so if the fur makes contact the charge will be softened by the redistribution of the charge over the surface.

I barely go to grocery store anymore for anything, I have a farm stand for veggies, and a farm stand I go to for all my meat! All my food comes from a 40 mile radius from my house, and honestly i've felt so much better. Notice i start to feel ill/iffy if i get meat from the regular store. Makes a huge huge difference.

As with anything new that you try to have to adjust things until you get it where it will do the job you need it to. Maybe another strand or putting t-post closer together will help. GOD bless y'all.

I talked to a bison rancher here in Utah and he uses hot wire too . He sets the Hot wire at 10,000 volts

Dusty we had a electric fencing in our back yard to just keep in our dog. He was pretty good size about 125 pounds. But no Bison. However When he was taking a piss the stream somehow managed to hit the fence and it ran up and zapped his man hood. And he tan off squealing like a little girl. And around the same time I was using my vacume to suck the dirt that builds up around the back door ehere it connects to our mud room on the house. Well I managed to hit that hot wire and honestly it felt like all hell went off in my body. I lost my eye sight in my right eye and it lasted for a week. Both of my arms felt as if I had been beaten with a baseball bat. It was horrible. My point is you need to be prepared that possibly one of your bisons just might hit their eye area on this new fence and it may really cause some serious injuries. So be very cautious with this fencing. I for one would never ever use such a device again. Its cruel. 😢❤️

How about sticking some of those non-permanent fence pieces staggered down the line to help in training?? Didn't seem like the adult bison were getting zapped with all that fur?? Thanks for sharing! What a bunch of hooligans!

Dusty, this must have been so frustrating! I hope the bison learn how to stay on the correct side of the fence for you. If it doesn't work, then what method will you use for fencing instead? There sure is more work involved with raising bison than I ever imagined. There's no time for you to get bored, is there? It's always great to see Marissa! How is Brooks? I hope y'all are enjoying the weekend. With prayers, love and gentle hugs for the 3 of you and your critters, too. God bless y'all, Donna Gulyas in Florida. 🥰🙏🙏🙏🦬🐎🌴

How do ya keep a buffalo put? Still a good question with Big Joe herd. Had to laugh. Don't understand how they even feel the thing with all that hair/fur on them. Love your channel. Every day is a new adventure. Better than TV any day. Keep on keeping on.

I was wondering, can bison even feel the electric shock from the fence? Bison have thick tough hide so do you think this fence is a good idea ? I love your videos!!❤

Need to put more flagging between posts. For the distance you have between posts I would put att least 4 flags. Found with cows the more flagging worked the best to keep them from breaking the wire. For bison I would use barbless wire as it heavier and slow them down

All his ground and tell the new guy you definitely don’t be long and since you weren’t watching they decided to fight and they were probably going head to head and one was probably back wards and it didn’t even matter what they touched! Lol!!

Are there bigger insulators that go clear around the post, those come off too easy. Also, it might work better if you have bigger posts possibly big round wood posts which is how I normally see it. I know it works with bison, but those posts you use mean all your fences are honor fences. The bison can plow down any fence on your property.
