Viewer Question: Blake - Hey John, Reuters is reporting that Adam Aron of AMC is getting an over 3 million dollar bonus and 100,000 to 500,000 bonus to the rest of the executive staff. Doesn’t this look bad for a company “struggling” and a company that was forced to lay off tons of minimum wage workers during the pandemic? I love AMC, but this is a very greedy and short sighted move in my opinion. What do you think?

I'm glad John mentions $266 for each person laid off.
I swear, this is reddest I've seen John's face in a while.
When the anger hit I was in awe, I've seen him yell on the show before but I think this is by far the angriest I've seen him. Loved every minute of it, speak your heart John
If he wasn’t wearing headphones smoke would coming out of his ears
Good John good. Let the hate flow through you
Do it.
Gooooooood
Damn... haven’t seen John blow up like this since collider blew Sh*t up last year
Yeah, no kidding! haha
Since his rant on the snydercut
his commerical before movie rant was pretty epic too.
Fire Jack Hind
What’s funny is I just watched that video of him blowing up last year just the other day 😂
The ceo is already making 9 million you then give him 4 million as a special bouns? Really in these times?
If he jumps ship they're fucked. It's a "please don't abandon our failing industry." Bargain
AMC must be doing amazing business!
Of course! He's not making 8 figures :(
@@altaafkader9675 if everyone takes your advice then who's gonna do the actual day to day work?
@@altaafkader9675 Everyone wants to be the top boss. Not everyone is that competent.
0:52 as soon as I saw John roll up his sleeves I knew sh*t was about to go down.
👿👀😜💪💪💪💪💪😂😂😂😂
This is classic Campea right here. I've not seen this for a minute
Another epic John Campea rant for the history books. I also completely agree with him.
The executives and CEO didn’t even do anything to pull them out of this hard time, did they? Wasn’t it all Reddit and the stock market?
Yep, Reddit's pushed allowed to dilute the stock (increase the number of stocks available to sell) and use that cash flow to sustain themselves. If they hadn't diluted it, the share would be worth double what it is now.
I was just thinking that. Just how deluded could these Executives be, that they're actually patting themselves on the back, as if they did anything, when it was redditors/the everyday guy who saved their company from bankruptcy... because LET'S NOT FORGET, just like with GameStop, AMC was was on its dying breath until their bacon was saved at the last minute. Talk about ungrateful insensitive pricks.
Yeah but like Rob said.....Which is really what I believe since it was an “incentive based “ that it may have and probably was a clause in their contract. The same way NFL and other sports teams get bonuses for making it to the playoffs,Champ Games,or reach certain numbers in a season.
I would have thought John could have at least acknowledged that being the possibility. Don’t get me wrong I love John. Been watching him since 2012 when he was with AMC.....Hell since he was dogging Laurel Lance the Canary in the Arrow Aftershow. lol. But I think he’s slightly off in this. Not because he’s not right for feeling that way. He is&I agree with him there but he does need to take a step back(if he didn’t) and consider that maybe because of the performance of the stock as of late.....it triggered their clause. I mean it could of been that the stock had to make 2 50% jumps in a 30 day span......Which it did....Or it could of been that the stock just had to reach 3x value within 2021 or even that __ amount of their debt be cleared. We don’t know. Also this is the most mad I’ve ever seen John . What a clip. Thanks for the work though John if you do see this. But I really think this has less to do over withstanding the pandemic &more to do with the recent & ongoing surge of the stock
@@AN_unAVERAGEJOE I think get your point, and I'm almost certain that these incentive bonuses are in fact directly related to the current upsurge in AMC's stocks. But you can't deny that it doesn't look good from a company's perspective, especially with AMC just barely surviving by the skin of their teeth.
Plus, it's not uncommon for executives to skip or delay their bonuses when their companies go through massive furloughs/layoffs. It's almost expected nowadays...and while it's mostly a PR move just for the public's sake, it's effective for a reason. Also I've never heard of a contract where incentives r a requirement that can't be turned down by their recipients. Legally speaking, they're not in the wrong, but ethically, it doesn't look good for them to move forward with that kind of behavior (especially in this pandemic where everyone is suffering)...that's all I'm saying.🤷♂️
Lol, I think I remember one or two other times where John got this mad before (remember the whole Collider layoff incident) but I agree, this is probably in the top five.👌
Yes it was. It's hella shady that AMC is rewarding the exec's
As an employee of AMC theatres who was furlowed 4 times during the pandemic. I love this
Not gonna lie as long as I've been a john campea fan so far this has been the best topic video I have ever watched lol
Yeah bro everything the question is real af not no theory or some bs and even Johns response to this was genuine af I'm tryna see more shit like this
Yeah when the man is passionate about a topic, it shows. I love it
3:11 I should’ve seen it coming but I jumped out of my chair
I figured he was gonna go off but damn I don't think I've seen him this heated lol
@@philipc4353 It was an epic angry rant. But John was 100%. It is disgusting that these execs get million dollar bonuses while they furlough their employees.
Yeeeeah, get em. 😂
Amen, Campea.
Somebody call up Ghostbusters for the demonic entities in the AMC HR department
Well Damn; (John) Tell them how you really feel 🤣
They did have a choice, they could’ve used all that money for their employees and also for keeping the movie theater’s running. Rich get richer because they run over other people mainly poor working class
John is totally on point here. Execs can forgo or defer bonuses... or even choose to distribute it to the staff who are struggling in this difficult time - that would be leadership.
In these times many people will appreciate $250. Theaters are struggling and they are giving themselves bonus’ for what?
3:09 yesssss, yesss I can feel the rant....it gives you FOCUS
Sorry but I've lost respect for Rob here , how he feels that defending this decision is warranted is ridiculous and I expect better so little empathy. John Campea I would work for him any day Well said!
Honestly, that’s your nomie American now.
Sees a poor man struggling... throws bootstraps line on him & calls them lazy, welfare queen etc.
Then watches a millionaire exploit a rigged system... calls him smart for knowing how the game is played.
Some just want the system to continue because they delude themselves into thinking one day they’ll be obscenely rich by exploiting the same system.
@@MAC_ABC exactly
He's literally a Boomer. Not surprised.
Empathy is not one-sided. Empathy means you put yourself in everyone's shoes and try to understand the situation. I don't think Rob is necessarily defending AMC's actions, just trying to provide an alternate take.
@@deewolf1903 I’m always one to play devils advocate, but the arguments he was making were so weak that he didn’t even need to make them.
I've been following john for two years now, never seen him this mad
This how I want to walk into WB/DC meeting and speak my mind for the toxic heart break they've been putting us fans through.
No kidding they have the best characters but clowns dressed in suits come up with terrible screenplays and throw continuity to the wind
@@sfcSpidey true. I been wanting black superman on big screen but it doesn't sit well with me that they would throw the og superman to the side without giving him all the proper respect and a trilogy at least. Then introduce black superman through a flash multiverse film. But nope they are ruinning it both for me. Even if they made a very great black superman film that would piss me off even more because it would show that they could make a great og superman film if they actually tried.
I got covid back in November was in the hospital for a month almost died just got back to work after being off without pay for 4 months I applied for short term disability thru amc. Was told I was 1 month shy of being able to use this benefit . I also got denied workers comp. Covid does not qualify . I'm so angry. And I started back to work last week and I barely can do 6 hrs a day because I'm severely fatigue d covid after affects.
I'm not a financial advisor but look up the research on 'amc stock' on RUclips.
ALSO.... The only reason they have the money to pay this bonus is because of the Reddit fueled stock episode that allowed their stock to skyrocket out of nowhere... They were able to cash in on their own stocks...
When I saw that thumbnail, I already knew what was about to go down...
I saw this as the headline title of the main show, but I was working during it. Seeing this segment being 18 min makes me happy to hear what he has to say.
I so much enjoyed John's outburst. Also, someone commented "let the hate flow through you". Loved it
When I saw the title of the video, I clicked, leaned back and thought "It's about time for another Campea rant".
Wait, going to grabbing some drinks and popcorns. Love it when John goes off!!! :D
Hello-
I've never seen John this mad.
I couldn't agree more! Thanks for having the guts to tell it like it is.
What ?!?!?!?!
Evil Disney giving executives bonus and getting rid of 30k employees.....oh wait, your talking about AMC, carry on!!!!!!
I saw the thumbnail gif and I was like...
"Finally! Another angry John Campea rant!"
And I wasn't disappointed:)
😆😆😆
As someone who worked for years in AMC before leaving a couple years ago: Not really surprised. And no one who worked/works for AMC should be surprised. The mentality inside AMC is like any other job, pay the executives. They dont even pay the managers well tbh and those are the people really getting taken advantage of. That's not to stop people from working at AMC theres just a quality of life that you give up working for them. The actual lifers or people who work the buildings are great to work with. Really great people.
You should look at the US CEO salaries over time. The issue isn't really with AMC, it's with capitalism.
The point about government is a strong one. Any relief the theater industry is seeking is going to be torpedoed because politicians can point to this report and use it to deny financial assistance. Congratulations to AMC on ensuring their own demise. Also as much as ire is focused on Aron, it is really more the board who made this decision. If offered a substantial bonus without prompting, I cannot blame someone for accepting.
Oh boy. I am now scared. Yikes.
Can you imagine if we all got bonuses that equalled half our annual pay? Ugh
Who knew there was a DEFCOM 0 level? John hit that and for a minute I was worried that medical assistance was going to be needed if he went on much longer.
That being said this is a straight up FU to all those 30k furloughed staff (I wonder just how many of them have subsequently been let go) and you can be damn sure AMC will not hire all of them back once things are back to some sort of normal - given the circumstance, that $8.3m pot of money should have been used to support the aforementioned staff in some form rather than almost half of it going to a man who has over $9m reason not to be concerned over having to chose whether he pays the bills or feeds his family.......the optics of this is so far past being tone deaf even the Hubble telescope would have trouble finding it!
I saw the title and knew John was gonna be on one. He expressed what I was thinking perfectly
These same CEOs and executives are the same ones fighting against a higher minimum wage. Executive salaries are ridiculously out of proportion for what little they actually do. This will only continue to get worse as executives get greedier and greedier while suppressing the money paid to everyone else arguing it will only cause the cost of everything to go up. Everything is going up because executives salaries goes up while everyone else gets left behind.
I don't think I've ever seen John like that before
I love it when John "Robin Hoods" on execs like this
CEO makes 9 million yet all of the base employees (the crew) make minimum wage, no benefits, no sick time, and every 6 months they get ¢.05 raises if they meet expectations. AMC is disgusting in terms of how they treat and compensate their employees.
John thank you for always being passionate and being our voice in these spaces!! I’m with you 💯 on this
"Poor fucking Adam Aron " 😂😂make that t-shirt john
Whoa. John. Damn - I felt that!! 100% on the $$ - what bullsh*t
Unfortunately this kind of stuff happens all the time with corporations.
Yep. It's like how the Exec's get the company to buy back stock but at the same time they get the company grant them stock as part of the buy back transaction. So it's essential the company buying back the stock they just issued to the Exec's.
I have to agree with John. They could've given the money to the furloughed employees.
My late grandma started working in 1950s in Yugoslavia (communist country in Europa between 1945 and 1990). Her boss Vortmann (Jew who survived Aschuwitz) had a rule that at the end of the year when the bonuses should be paid the same all the workers. From the cleaning lady to the boss everybody got the same cut (let's say for example if bonus was 100k and there were 100 people wokring then 1000 per person would be paid). When one lower level boss asked him why everybody got the same cut he responded that everybody work together for the benefit of the company so if we are talking about bonuses the everybody should be paid the same. Your salery is making different in how much and how important your job is but the bonuses should be diveded the same between the workers. I think that we should all learn from this example.
P.S. I miss you grandma and your stories .
The nut jugglers over at AMC ... my favorite insult 🤣
This is why I don't care about these movie theaters when they don't care about their customers it's all about the money
I agree with you John. Your anger is warranted. I’m equally enraged. Anyone with half a brain must realize how profoundly greedy and stupid this move is. Let’s also face the stark reality that wanton corporate greed has been going on since time immemorial. I’m not saying CEOs shouldn’t be well compensated and bonused, but within reason. And certainly NOT bonused for doing a sub par job or getting massive severance packages in the multi millions. The overwhelming disparity between the average worker and those at the top of the corporate ladder bothers me immensely. At least other CEOs out there are well known for giving large portions of their wealth away to good charitable causes. AMC’s CEO should have declined the bonus and requested it be divvied up amongst employees that were laid off. That would be been the honourable thing to do. It would have been the right thing to do.
My dogs got scared 4 minutes in. Holy crap.
Can't wait to hear johns reaction now that it came out that not only did he get a 4 million dollar bonus but also got a raise from 9 million up to almost 20 million in 2020
Like they said, the optics on all of this is what matters and if I was an employee of AMC theaters I would not go back after hearing all this. Even if I still have my job I am thinking of all the people who lost their jobs but AMC theaters get a Ford to pay that kind of money to people who are already OK and do nothing for the people who are not.
I have an AMC theater in my town but I also have a golden ticket and I will not go back to AMC theaters now
That rant was so epic that even I feel fulfilled from it
The thumbnail of the Exec reminds me of Fat Cat from the Chip & Dale cartoons.
John has had some epic rants, but when he started off calling Adam Aaron a moron, I nearly spit my water. Lol I didn't see it coming this time hahhaha👏👏👏👏
John, you do not want to hear about what Bell Media did here in Canada..
I think John was a little understated in his response
It's the new Wallstreet you see people at food banks
I really wish John had left the live chat reply on. I wasn't watching this in real time so I didnt get to see the chat's reaction when he started yelling 😔
3:08-3:45 Give John Campea an Oscar!
Physical harm is the only thing that will make people like them get the picture. PHYSICAL HARM!!!!!!!
The moment I read the title of this video, I knew we were all in for a John Campea RAGE!!!
Gotdammit I love these videos lol. Go off, dude.
I could see the rant coming before it started. Even though John seems calm at first, I could hear the barely suppressed anger and thought oh my god here it comes....
SCREW AMC STOCK buy cineplex!
I would much prefer to visit my two local independent owned movie theatres over my local AMC Theatre. I have no interest in ever revising an AMC Theatre.
And this surprises who exactly? And nothing will change until us as consumers need to start effecting their bottom dollar
I Never Seen John this MAD and FURIOUS since Mulan with the $30 premium fee scam 😕
Almost 9 million dollars in bonuses..How about Oh paying the workers. Also how about helping those chains keep their leases so they can bring back those laid off workers.
That's the most exec news I've ever heard.
This is glorious
Here’s to liking and sharing this clip! 🍻 Let’s make John go viral ✊🇨🇦🇺🇸
This is amazing good job John
That rant
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
i'm sick to my stomach
I’m actually kind of surprised by this reaction
Blood pressure red lined
I don't know, Rob...I wouldn't call any year, regardless of how crazy and how much extra work, a "hard year" if in the end, you pulled a $9,000,000 salary BEFORE your crazy bonus...
You’re right Jon
To be fair, the CEO does not control this bonus, the board does. This is idiotic, but they are the idiots not the CEO who is taking it.
Usually the CEOs go to the board to ask a bonus. And even if the board is dumb, the CEO can take responsibility and decide to freeze the bonus for when the pandemic is over.
This is unreal....I bought stock in this company and I’m rooting for them to come out of this mess alive and then you here this and I am immediately filled with rage. You have to have a serious sense of IDGAF attitude to take your bonus at this time.
Get em John!!
The Campea Rant never gets old.
Let’s go, I knew John was going to go off when I saw this
3:08 - Well stated John. Well stated.
Completely agreed
Yeah this is 100% trash, and while I understand all companies are different this just shows the culture of the company. My company that deals with travel and tourism which is hurting just as bad went from 650 employees to 200, our CEO forfeited his salary for all of 2020 and currently all execs VP and higher are at reduced salaries. The first people they got back to 100% salary was everyone below the executive level. This is why when I was making 50% then 75% of my salary I stayed on board!
The fact that he was getting his regular salary and didn't have to take a pay cut and 30 000 people don't have a job anymore and the only thing they could think of is let's give out bonuses it's a special bonuses because it's been hard only making 9 million dollars this year
I love when John gets fired up! Totally agree with John. The executive should have declined the bonus. Looks really bad for AMC.
that escalated
Yes John! Go off! This is unbelievable corruption; if I owned AMC stocks (thank God I do not) I be dumping them immediately
And they say AMC is going down because there is no movie goer. It's act like this that destroy AMC.
Does rob ever get angry? Every time John goes tf rob is just there straight faced, it’s so entertaining to me 😅
This is why the current corporate capitalist system is not sustainable..... the greed always wins out. This is why they need more democracy in the work place and employees on corporate boards!
I approve of John’s rant 100%
I love John's fire. Give 'em hell, Mr. Campea!
