Awesome!!! I appreciate that you used 3 Feet Cycling Sag! Long Story short, 3 Feet was started with the goal to bring attention to the 3 Feet laws in the states, following a death at a state event and the need to improve rider safety. Was originally launched by Craig Henwood (Who passed at a bike race in 2019) and myself. It is now run by the highly capable hands of Jeff McCool. Thanks for the plug. Cheers.
Was pumped to run into you out there! Love the vids and thanks for making this one. It'll do a way better job of trying to explain the madness of the race to my friends and family.
You all are so inspiring. I did the 50 which turned right before the mud disaster but have always wanted to do the 100/200 one day. Maybe next year. That mud looked horrifying and you never know what you get with Unbound!
We met Francis this past weekend at the Unbound Expo in the Garmin booth. I was expecting a "RUclipsr" to be a know it all and full of himself. Francis was COMPLETELY the opposite. He was kind, interesting and a very nice person. Authentic and humble. Well done!! Nice guy!
Great video. I did the 200, but only made it to 146 (second time up Texaco Hill) due to a tubeless valve issue that I couldn't solve on the road. Anyway, you guys really captured the three distinct parts of the day very well. The Death March, the sweltering heat (praying for rain), and then the thunderstorm. Wish I had video of the wildest part of the storm. I arrived at Rocky Ford, just as it hit. No words can describe it how wild it was at that point.
Great to meet you at the start line. I yelled out to you in Madison just after you left 3 feet. Welcome back anytime Francis. The flint hills are epic to say the least. 3 feet IS the best.``
that would not have mattered much at all. the top issue was tires gummed up entirely against the frame. There was no tire that mud would fall away from. None.
That looked like fun! Currently living my cycling passion through videos as recovering from a cycling accident. Unfortunate enough to break my collarbone and developed a blood clot 10days later. I highly recommend any cyclist who suffers any signs of dvt after such an injury to get checked out, had I not been so persistent I would of been sent home a second time in a week by the hospital from the first initial symptoms of my discomfort in leg and back! Ride safe everyone 🚴♂️🙏🏽
So happy to meet you & Marley on Friday. Unfortunately your rain dance caused more problems for those doing the 200….I did 135 miles before calling it.
@Chris Lee as you said you weren't there. I was. As I understand it, the decision to not re-route was made around midnight, when the road was not muddy, and the XL riders had made it through with no issues. Then a storm hit around 2 or 3 am. I have also heard some saying that the possible re-route had a section that was flooded. But all of that is irrelevant to my point. My point is gravel racers as a rule, relish challenges and overcoming adversity. So, a race that presents challenges and adversity, may drive some away, but it's not going to end the popularity of this event or others like it.
OUTSTANDING race video but I absolutely hate you!!! :) I attempted the 200 and DNF at mile 79. It was sheer hell. Why didn't I audible to the 100? Thanks for the pro tip about picking a line while walking the bike through the mud in the road. I did not even think of that- instead I pushed my bike through the grass on the side of the road and continually had to stop to unclog my wheels. I'm 62 with slipped discs in my neck so toting the bike on my back is not doable for me but I should have been smarter about where I pushed my bike. It took me 2 hours and 45 minutes to cover the 3-4 miles of mud. But I was not alone. Of the 73 men in the 60+ AG, only 24 finished. The 49 DNFs resulted in a whopping 67% attrition rate. Only 1 out of 3 riders in my AG finished/2 out of 3 riders did not finish. BRUTAL! I'll be back next year for the 100 for sure (if I get drawn) and perhaps the 200- TBD! PS Jack bears a stunning resemblance to Peter Sellers in appearance and demeanor- this video was hilarious!
Get mud like that in some fields in Somerset. It’s horrendous. Not only stops you rolling makes your bike heavier than a Harley. Not to be underestimated lol!
It's a particular type of soil that holds water. This is why the prairie grow s wheat and Kansas is in the corn belt. An agronmist or Google could explain it better. Great for crops not good for cycling through
Best video I’ve seen of the race. The view of the mass of people walking was stunning.

2 hours for the first 10 miles?!? I have to say I would have called it a day at that point.
Walking your bike through mud takes forever ya dumas
Yeah i’d be like. “Okay im going home, thanks guys”
Many did. And many had broken derailleurs from the mud so had no choice but to abandon. Call in their back ups.
No way. Normal for DK / Unbound. It's part of the fun.
The dropout rate was >60%. Every group that went through the mud made it slightly worse for the group behind them.
Only RUclipsr I’ve seen staying so positive and keeping sense of humour at this race 👏 2023
Hey!!!!! 😮😂
Francis and the gang 😅
Everyone else 🤯
think the better word would be Mudbound
Was pumped to run into you out there! Love the vids and thanks for making this one. It'll do a way better job of trying to explain the madness of the race to my friends and family.
I was there...I appreciate how well you captured the "walk". Thanks for a great video!

Francis, It was great to meet you guys out there and ride for a bit! Awesome and brutal ride for sure.
Great job! Really wish this video was longer though
Thanks Francis...and friends ! Yeah , hail is fun ...good job !
I completed the 100 3 hours later than expected due to the mud and it was epic lol. So many people were complaining but it’s all part of it
Yes Jack! Always positive, Francis, get more Jack in the videos!
We look forward to supporting the team each year! Congrats on finishing!
I love this. Cycling is unpredictable. Embrace it and push on
Your team was amazing. We rode back to our residents together
What a bunch of pigs rolling in the mud! Love it! :D

Welcome to the Flint Hills of Kansas! 30 is nothing. We are supposed to get to 40 this week in Southern Arizona.
0:43 That's just ridiculous. Is Unbound trying to be the Woodstock of bike racing?
The soil is mostly clay, shit happens you cant control the weather.
@@ChiTownBrownie89 they had multiple options to re-route around the worst parts
Welcome to gravel racing. Mud roads are not unique to UNBOUND.
Great, great job on the video, and triple kudos on the ride!
Congratulations on finishing the tough mudder course!
congrats on your race, the beginning looks like an adventure race.
Great to meet you at the start line. I yelled out to you in Madison just after you left 3 feet. Welcome back anytime Francis. The flint hills are epic to say the least. 3 feet IS the best.``
Great video! Gave a sense of how different the sections were and the challenges from mud to rocks to heat to cold rain! 💪🍺
We will see so much internal drivetrains in future unbounds or other gravel races
well its a bit of ridiculous "challenge" at this rate, not much of a gravel race more of a test of whose equipment doesnt fail
that would not have mattered much at all. the top issue was tires gummed up entirely against the frame. There was no tire that mud would fall away from. None.
Cheers for showing Katie. She’s an absolute badass!
Inspiring Francis and team. Well done ❤
What an experience and a good crew too. Looking forward to your next adventure. Take care, Al
Amazing video, thanks for sharing!
Great to see you guys in Madison!
So nice to see Lawrence come and give you wag support, welcome to my Sunflower State🌻
😂😂😂😂
Looked like hell on earth mud wise.
Great riding meeting and riding with you
So nice to meet you!
@@Cade_Media I have to re-edit my RUclips to include your proper #tag
As always, oh so great stuff ... thanks! I've never participated is such events, may consider and plan on doing so next year! Keep it moving!
Good job! I knew the heat was going to be an issue, but it is the mud that you will remember!
Welcome to the best Kansas. Heat, Wind, and pop-up Rain.
That looked like fun!

The one friendly dog in dogland.
So happy to meet you & Marley on Friday. Unfortunately your rain dance caused more problems for those doing the 200….I did 135 miles before calling it.
This video now makes me want to see how everyone else did in the 200 and 350! Thanks for sharing🤘🏻
Glad you found Katie, she is a sweetheart. I will watch her video next.
Very cool!
Been there done 200 in 14h :) Great race, great coverage.
One thing I can advise we use it in the marsh some atf fluid on the parts repel the mud pretty good
Hilarious, so much fun watching it. Thanks guys, you made the best of it as probably only Englishmen and women can.
Way to go! And it was good to meet you.
Nice video 🎉 fun stuff out there
Man I wish I could do that! Great ride Francis!
Congrats on finishing the ride in good time!
best UB video of the year.
Great effort. That mud looks horrific! We need a video on what broke/wore out from the event.
Mind blowing the pace of top 200 mile riders male & female in the conditions - 😮
Wierd the 200 milers were so damn fast but 100 milers had slower average
@@toshman696969 all the big names do the 200
@@toshman696969 guess they went off first and had the better road conditions.
@@toshman696969 There were a lot of Freds in the 100. I saw tons of people with garbage bike handling skills out there.
All the heavy hitters did the 200,and no,conditions weren’t better for them 🤙
How did the Ltwoo GRT hold up? Just put one on a bike and I'm blown away how well it shifts - curious how it holds up in such conditions
Well Done!!
This is the definition of type III fun.
Can't wait for next year's Unbound Mud 2024 event! 😂😂
Enjoyed that.
Ta.
I think this is the first time I haven't seen Katie smile!🤙 Good job all.

Looks fun 🤩
Wonder if this race has peaked in popularity due to this
Due to what? The weather? The challenge? You clearly don't know gravel racers.

Awesome performance 👏🚴♂️
yea that near hour of walking the peanut butter mud was experience, made the next 190 miles a blast lol
That grand pyrenees was the highlight. Good doggo.
This race was awesome I did the 20 mile and my dad did the 100

An epic event once again
That’s like salisbury plane I raced many years ago
be careful what you wish for out on the plains. good job and welcome back to america!
Will you do some tutorials on how to use a Garmin? I have an edge Explore 2. Tim
Murder Clay! I didn't know they had that on the route in Kansas. It is the default soil in much of Colorado. Evil stuff. 😂
That soil is why it's the Corn Belt. Particular sort that holds water and nutrients.
Did Jack lose his toothbrush because I think I saw it and got a good laugh out of seeing a random toothbrush 😂😂
Good old Kansas mud in the Flint Hills.
That looked brutal!
That mud... bit of a failure ain't it. Looks like crazy fun tho. imma gonna have to get this done one day. damn.
Peanut butter mud is the achilles heel of the modern gravel bike with its short chain stays.
Get mud like that in some fields in Somerset. It’s horrendous. Not only stops you rolling makes your bike heavier than a Harley. Not to be underestimated lol!
I passed that puppy! I figured he was working protecting a herd I could not see. After the mud it was a great day! Cheers!
Congrats mate but just brutal.
@7:15 🤘😂🤘 Which is it, hot or cold?
Good times Francis! 🍻🍻🍻
🐶 the Unbound mascot saved you
Appreciate you not taking me on this one. Fooooook that!
Next time 👍
07:59 a ghost of the gravel spirit
Good overview of the mayhem. I suggest you wear a lighter color jersey and short finger gloves for the heat. Congrats on your tenacity to finish.
Wow that race had a lot of what i really don't like 😂 and yet managed to look like a ton of fun!!?
Biggest "Bike Race"!!! Yeeeeeehaaaaawwwwww! Maybe Unbound organizers choose a better route next time?

What hydro pack you using ?
That game we played at school, stuck in the mud...
