Roadie here, and this video hasn't changed my changed my mind. But I’m happy to watch GCN presenters ride gravel any time and suffer vicariously through them. And Danni is awesome, more please!
Also, roadie and MTB guy, so for long distance riding I've had success with wider tires (32c) on my road bike to do some occasional light gravel. While I could run my MTB for those routes, the distances involved is too far for the weight and speed my MTB has and too overkill for light gravel. I think most endurance road bikes and even newer aero bikes can fit at least 32c these days.
@@ryoukokonpaku1575 I’ve done some short gravel sectors on my 32c slick tires… and I was always very glad to make it back to the road. 😀 Maybe 32c (or I think I can even fit 35c on my endurance bike) with an actual tread would feel less dicey. And then I could do mostly roads with a few short gravel sectors mixed in.
Si should come to the US and have a go at cattle wrangling and even bull riding. Confucius nailed it when he said, "Cows are just oversized bunnies." Si is the GCN presenter non plus ultra.
@@gcn Now that I’ve learned about it from GCN, I will. 👍 I live close to the Mississippi River, and there is an extensive flood control levee system topped with gravel roads and surrounded by beautiful vistas. I ride them whenever I get a chance.
Good to see proper British gravel. And great chemistry between Danni and Si. Wishing you every success in the US Danni - we were following you all the way on Lifetime Grand Prix last year!
Didn't know about Rebound till I saw the Strava challenge pop up, planning to hit my local windfarm and hopefully make it round the full route this time as I had a mechanical last time. Don't think I'll be starting at 6am though!
I don’t have any specific suggestions I’m afraid, I just love the videos of interesting and challenging rides that we can all appreciate and that can prompt us to go out and play! I don’t enjoy the “can I ride up a hill better with a coffee in me” type of guff, but the archetypal real GCN cycling content from great presenters and natural rather than forced chat/banter. Not asking for much, eh?
This reminds me of the GCN+ videos. The simple joy of riding bikes with a friend: great conversation, a lovely soundtrack, beautiful countryside. RIP GCN+ and hope the core staff at GCN figure out a workaround to whatever non-competition clauses were in the contract with Warner Bros so you can bring back some of the simple GCN+ content such as World of Cycling. I remain optimistic.
That was a really lovely video. Well done Si and Danni for making something truly terrifying, look like harmless fun! Cows... actually, they looked like babies who wanted to be bucket fed by kindly humans! 🤣🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄
I must have a go at rebound down here in Australia on June 1st ,the Aussie cows are just as scary down here shouting bbq at them seems to help keep them away even though I’m a vegan , loved the video !
Having ridden l'Eroica twice, I have had enough of gravel riding to last me but Rebound will be my excuse to ride the Prescott-Russell railtrail on Saturday east of Ottawa and make it a 200 km day on 28 mm tires. Flat farm country--probably with cows!
That’s awesome! Would be good to have a link to route (omitting the homes of the presenters) so we can challenge Si’s time and experience the aggressive Cotswolds!!
I have had to deal with stinging nettles one time when I was a kid. It was horrible. I would have been off the bike for at least two days. Maybe I am super allergic. Good on you guys surviving that stuff.
Young cattle are hilarious. Masses of energy and very inquisitive. Top tips are to walk and if you have a dog let it off its lead as they'll be edgy about it. If they come close wave your arms and tell them to go away!
was out in the Cotswolds today - got in about 30km of 'not tarmac'. it is pretty cool cruising along the trails although there was one literal ploughed field - better than some of the tarmac!
Came here to say the same thing... Oh that gravel looks familiar.. Oh and there's the plant pot that Si just dumps his bike against at the beginning... OH!😊... Any way I'm now signed up, lets see if I can get out by 6am
I know this is a long distance ride challenge, but if ANY route guaranteed that I'd get to see and pet doggos, I'd ride 500 miles a day...then promptly stop once said doggo is pet 😂
I have too Orbea Terra , my is H30 and 2021 model. I ride my Terra all my ride , Randounner , Bikebacking , etc and this i race again Kaldoaivi Ultra Mtb 85 km and 130 km , last year only 130 km Finnish wilderness in Utsjoki , Lapland
I spent many the formative year around cattle on English farms (often with a bike) and not once was i killed. Therefore my research shows them to be completely safe....
"...1800 m is almost 1000 m..." ^^ Well Si, humans tend to work on a logarithmic scale - so all good... at least it's in the same order of magnitude xD

Depends if TT course has been chip and sealed.
Shouldn't have joked about it, tonight's TT was quite gravelly.
What an hilarious video!
Danni Strawsberry needs to be a recurring guest on GCN!
Agreed, what a hilarious video.
Yes more Danni!
We would love to have Danni back 🙌 Any big challenges we could set her? 👀
An 'ilarious or a hilarious😊❤ depends if you're Hank or Derek Trotter
@@gcnhave her do the tandem bike
Impressed by Si's camera skills, cycling on gravel one handed, operating the camera with the other, talking to Danni and perfectly framing it all.
A man on many talents 🤣
Danni would make a brilliant new presenter for the channel.
Top film
One must not underestimate the cuteness of cows. They just wanted to play and cuddle!
They are cute 🐄
Danni was great!! Best wishes for Unbound. (and there are lots of cows in Kansas).
She's going to smash it 💪
You sacrificed the cameraman! 😂😂😂 I just love the cow content
Someone had to move first 🤣

Being chased by cows. That’s a new one I haven’t seen on GCN.
Hahahah hopefully it's the last time you'll see it too 🤣
I love gravel because 1) scenery, and 2) much less automobile traffic risk
Will you be doing your own Rebound?

Gravel races are so much more fun than road in my opinion. I love the laid back nature of gravel events
@@GregJC honestly, my background is in MTB XC racing and the Giant Revolt AP1 is my first drop bar bike.
Good episode. I liked Danni's sense of humour 👍
Surprised Hank didn’t do the “can you ride 100 K with swollen ankles” challenge
I have to do that every time I ride

Please more Danni!!!! Super cool, and not hard on the eyes at all.
She's great right! We would love to have her back on the channel. Any ideas what we could challenge her to?
A lot of familiar trails, think I'll pinch an old Cotsduro for my Rebound. 😍🤩 Can't beat riding from your front door
Give a try! It's a great route 👌
6:34 awesome idea. Send the e-biker first to lure the cows away. Love it 😅
The sacrificial lamb 🤣
So much fun...and the cows were a riot! Danni is the bomb!
She's great company on a ride... maybe a bit too strong for us 🤣
Good to see proper British gravel. And great chemistry between Danni and Si. Wishing you every success in the US Danni - we were following you all the way on Lifetime Grand Prix last year!
Our gravel is a little different 🤣
Very interesting hearing the practical pro perspective: “Just going to get home.” That’s a perspective I can get behind!

I did the "want to take a different route home?" to my gf today. Absolutely beautiful new area found, but we were dead-tired afterwards.
That's awesome! Finding a new route can be the way to explore new paths on your doorstep 👀
Loved this content! Especially Danni! More Danni please! Next show:cow avoidance techniques
The plan is to hit some gravel here in Germany. As an broken old military vet I can't go long but 50km is the goal🤘
Awesome video and get well Hank! 💪
Nice! Let us know how you get on!
Loved this! Always love Si’s adventures.
Make your flapjacks with 1/2 oats and 1/2 crunchy nut cornflakes... delish!
GCN strikes again with another brilliant vid, cheers Si and great craic with Danni, sign her up for more!

I genuinely hope that was not scripted getting Danni as she was a great guest and would make her even better if it was unplanned.

How good was Danni! Will definitely be having a go at rebound next year.
It’s not until June 1. Plan it now 😀👍👍

Another vote for Danni!
That’s awesome! Would be good to have a link to route (omitting the homes of the presenters) so we can challenge Si’s time and experience the aggressive Cotswolds!!
Danni rocks!! Such a cool chick and super fast!! Si's comment, it is closer to 1,000m as it has a one in it.... so 8,991m is also close?

Now that Manon has sadly left GCN, can we see more of Danni on the channel please. She’s ace.
She is amazing, that’s for sure!
Tomorrow is rebound 6am start gonna do 85 miles to complete 4000 miles for the year so far what a great and different way to mark it.
Those cows were so adorably dangerous. Now I know why Si despises cows. They chase after you and stomp on you then will laugh at your disposal.

Loved doing 50 miles of Rebound last year! This year though, I'm already signed up for a 200km Brevet that week...
Oooo that's going to be super fun! Enjoy the brevet 🙌

Loved Danni.
A real cool video❤❤
Fantastic inspiration! Going to do my own on June 1! Too bad there was celebratory pint at the end.
We hope you get a pint at the end!
Great ride. Would have liked to have heard Danni explain her bike and choices too. And have the cows decide which is cooler.
On it , but as gravel is about being different , my usual coffee stop is in my route about 10 miles from the end so it m stopping . 😁
That Danni was good, I hope you can get her on GCN some more.
We need more of Danni
thanks for the inspiration! I'll be part of the game! 👍 // does Danni ride the new Felt Breed Advanced?
I'm a simple man. If a video contains Si and the chance of cows, I click it.
More Danni on GCN please!
Any challenges in mind?
Danni seems so cool.
Great video!
Cows no love that’s not to worry about , it’s the 🐂 bulls to worry about for sure , cows are just inquisitive

Hey Si,, afterparty? party on with the wifie and kiddis? Luv ya work!
Thanks Si , Danni , JLW , and crew. Bovine attacks and all , eh ? Be safe , but I think they know Si's a vegan ....?
More Danni please. What are those glasses Si was wearing? I'd like to get a pair. Nah, only joking they are humongous.
Good video mate. But you could have saved a load of KMs by just waiting for Hank at the place you met Danni.....😅

Really hope to see Connor at unbound this year
Si needs to start packing his pockets with Hay, to befriend the cows!
Wout Van Aert did Rebound last year by the way!
If it's good enough for Wout it's good enough for us! 🙌 We would love to see him at unbound 👀
This time of the Year the stingers seem to carry a particular kick to them. Got done a few Weeks ago and it was 3 days later before it wore off.
I know this is a long distance ride challenge, but if ANY route guaranteed that I'd get to see and pet doggos, I'd ride 500 miles a day...then promptly stop once said doggo is pet 😂
Embrace the nettles, the more you get stung the more you build up resistance! If it’s not working you just need to get stung some more!
The cows won't hurt you. They are just curious and will follow you. If you stop they will stop. A young bull may be a different story.
🐮
Cows can kill. If they have young ones and you have a dog then steer clear.
I think a GCN video about cows would be great.
I hear if you grovel at the Dairy Queen’s feet, she may give you a pass.
Don’t listen to this townie cows are really dangerous
