Well produced video, but I don't really agree with this characterization. There's no doubt that he seriously fell from the top, but comments like "plummeting into the depths of mediocrity" is a harsh exaggeration to say the least. At 15:06, a false claim is made that Spieth hasn't won since 2021. Spieth won in 2022 at the RBC Heritage. Moreover, Spieth was T3 and T4 at the 2021 and 2023 Masters respectively, while also solo runner-up at the Open in 2021. These results are nothing to sneeze at, considering those results are against the best on the planet. In fact, at 15:41, just looking at his earnings from 2020 through 2023 you can see he has made a significant comeback to form. I'm not saying he will ever again have the kind of run he had in his early career, but saying "20 years from now, that meltdown is all we'll ever care to remember" is totally untrue and undeserved imo

Prior to THAT shot he had won 7 times in LESS than 3 years. In 8 years since he has one 6 times and now is almost irrelevant. So my questions: 1) Why is he always in the featured groups and followed on television, and 2) Why is he so popular when he is unbelievably annoying? They should pair Spieth with Brian Harman and put us out of our misery! (By the way, you never see him on the weekend telecasts...if he makes the cut...because he is so far back he is teeing off as the sun comes up.

Its weird how this can happen in golf. Because its not as physically demanding, I eould consider golf to be almost more like playing music. Theres a technique and a rythm that you have to find. Unless you got some series back injury or something, as long as you practice, that technique and rythm should stay. You dont hear about musicians all of a sudden losing their ability to play. Unless they got injured somehow.

You’ve really got to hand it to Greg Norman for continually getting back to the top and in contention after some really tough near misses. After the Mize shot in 87, he was back in 88 and 89. Even after 1996, he was back three years later fighting it out. He lost all 4 majors in playoffs, as well as being runner up on other occasions.

This video is class after the fact reasoning. He has definitely not performed like 2015. But just plain old regression to the mean is just as good an explanation as the disastrous 12th.
He won a major, played well at Ryder cups, plus several more tournaments after the disastrous 12th event. Did that one bad event cause those positive events too?

7:14 you say Spieth joins tiger and Jack to be the only guys to be top 5 in each of the majors in one year. Rickie Fowler did it that year too in 2015

I'm not convinced that this was Jordan Spieth's demise. I think we saw signs of his decline months before this happened. Even after his great year of 2015/16, he became extremely erratic off the tee, primarily because he chased distance, thus, altering his golf swing. In his historic year of 2015, he practically made every putt.....literally. Of course that could not be sustainable. Making everything he looked at on the putting green makes every other part of his game much easier to handle or fall into place.
If you recall, in the 2016 season, he didn't make a lot of putts, not nearly the number of putts he made in 2015. Also, he started having the yips on the tee box. He would grip and regrip his club before swinging, constantly looking at his target, not pulling the trigger. It was little things like this that started to creep into his game. It's quite possible that this moment on the 12th hole at the Masters was the impetus that started it all, but I believe the wheels were already in motion prior to this event, imho.

Correct. Him doing the regripping reminded me of Sergio. Regripping up to 16 times before swinging and still producing poor shots.

Kinda like an undefeated boxer moving up in class and eventually wining the world championship. Then, you get knocked out for the first time and never really recover to your old form. Just an analogy and not taking anything away from Speith who is a great professional golfer.

This hole didn’t ruin his career. He won 4 times including the Open the next year. 18 at the Northern Trust did because he lost because DJ could carry a water hazard at 320 that Spieth couldn’t, then Spieth chased distance and messed up his swing.

I remember telling anyone that would listen about Spieth way bk around 2012 & the money I made off betting him winning & or being placed was great between 13-16 .. I had a decent e/w bet on him to win the 14 Masters at 40/1 & a big bet on him in 15 then 16 & that 12th cost me fortunes 😂 .. It's a shame he's kinda fizzled out after winning The Open in 17 (I had him for that at 20s I think he was) .. Hope he gets bk to something near what he was, he was the best putter I'd seen since Tiger for those few early yrs!
