Hey guys! You have all been asking for this video for sooo long so I thought it was time I made it! I hope you enjoy it and find it useful :) Do you want to see me create an accurate sketch for a realistic portrait next time??? All likes, comments, shares and subscribes are really appreciated! Have a great day everyone :D
Kirsty Partridge Art i was so excited to see this. I primarily prefer reference-free invention. Can you do more like this? Especially with hair? Hair is the weirdest for me and I don’t feel like the references help enough.
The best part of Kristy's videos is that she teaches throughout the video instead of a background music which other artists usually use. 😌 Thanks to that I am improving 😊
The most important things in selftought drawing is to learn shading and not beeing afraid to make a mistake. It's amazing when you can express your mind on paper. The most annoying thing in selftought drawing is that people will see it as a talent. They don't see the hard work and frustrations you've gone trough, they just say it's talent.
Sounds like you're using something like a 4B pencil or something even darker, like a 9B. Try an HB, or even 2H pencil, and you'll be surprised at how much lighter the lines are and then later you can darken in what you want with a softer, darker pencil.
I’m a Junior in high school and recently discovered that I have a love for drawing. But my proportions are always off😕thanks to this video I am getting better. Not spot on, but better😁Thank you so much for these tips. They help a lot!
I'm finally getting back into drawing and I am blown away by your art. I just discovered your channel and I really appreciate these sort of videos as a new artist. In most tutorial videos no one ever explains proportion. This helped me in so many ways. Thank you and I hope to see more tutorials for beginners from you. Have a wonderful day.
O.M.G!!!! This actually HELPED ME SOOO MUCH OMG. We had this drawing competition in school and i WON 1st place! This HELPED me so much to like do the shape of the faces and lips and OMG thank you so much. Big fan. Subscribed!! Tysm 😊
This is gold! Thank you very much! I’d love to learn more of basic proportions from you, love your videos. You’re very clear and easy to understand and the way you teach is a nice balance of ‘I can relate’ and ‘this is what you’re supposed to do’
I love your tutorials! I am just a beginner, but just recently I drew Eleven from stranger things and I think it turned out really well, I’m quite happy with it!
I love your way of teaching. This video is extremely useful. These tips have helped me get my drawings more and more realistic and natural. Many thanks
This is really helpful and encouraging. Sometimes when I start a drawing it looks really “bad” but it takes a long time of working on it for it to look good in the end.. it’s a long process! 💞
I'm teaching myself how to draw from NO experience and NO natural talent and I found this SO easy to follow. My first ever face and it actually doesn't look bad! Thank you so much, I subscribed :)
Thank you so much for this video! Your teaching method is super great and encouraging! I am CONSTANTLY having issues with faces and I am CONSTANTLY having people ask me to paint faces on small figurines with no established features, like angels. I have tried other methods that seem to have 800 measurements/angles for the head to establish proportion properly, and your gentle technique seems easiest for me!
I'm happy to see someone else drawing with a fineliner and then "colouring" with pencil and stompf! That's how some of my best artwork has been made. So freeing to know you can just erase if the shading goes wrong. I'm inspired to do more in this technique now!
Hey Kirsty, thank you for all your tutorials, they’re really great 😊 and yes please, I’d love to see more basic proportions tutorials both realistic and stylised 😊🌸🌼
Thank you sooo much for sharing this video. Today was my first day learning how to draw a portrait. I've been following along, pausing and keeping up. I learned so much watching you. You're a great teacher🌹❤🌹❤
Me: Guess I’m buying the tools today Me: 30 dollars?! Me: meh it”ll be worth it Me: buys the tools Dad: wtf? Me: let’s start Me:draws deformed sausages Dad: uhm let’s sign you up for drawing classes. Me: WAIT I was just warming up Me: let’s start Me: fails to draw a circle Dad:🤦🏾♂️ Me: draws another failed circle. Me: draws a squiggly line Me: gets protractor Me: finally draws a circle Me: now for the nose, mouth, eyes, ears, and- Dad: bish forget it.
This is exactly the videos i'm looking for. It explains exactly how to get the proportions right. I think you should make more videos like this for beginners, because most people who search on RUclips for tutorials are beginners anyway.
Thank you Kristy. I loved this tutorial and your style of teaching. By peaking as you go along makes the lesson alive. I look forward to your other tutorials
Came across your tutorials the other day. I have to say, amazing and brilliant work. You definitely make it look easy, but you do explain things well. I have started to draw in 2016, but mainly have done sketches only and really have not done much in terms of guidelines nor shading. But I am getting to the point of wanting to make more realistic looking drawings. Keep up the great work!
Thank you, SO much for not only taking the time to do this, but in the extremely step-by-step camera work. Best I've seen. I'm extremely new to sketching and drawing, but have always wanted to try it. I have bought good quality pencils, some decent paper, erasers, etc. However, I also have printer paper and normal HB pencils - I love that you almost encourage that. I cannot wait to get onto the inking on stage.
Thank you for this! I have drawn most of my life and really I have just been "winging it". If it works, it works ... but now I am frustrated how I am unable to recreate proportion and movement (in the body and length). Now, whenever I see artists, they seem to start out with a rough "guide". This was fantastic, and humbling to watch - as i see there is still much I need to learn. I jumped ahead at some point and missed the basics... So embarrassing. This is y I am a "amateur artist" ^_~ lol
I just watched your video, and I love it. Thank you, so much for doing a basic face video, this will be such a help to me. Please continue to do Basic videos for us beginners.
Excellent tutorial. Yours is the first grid that works for me. I snipped it. ✂️ 😊When I try the standard grid, my subject looks lifeless. You’re a great online teacher. 👍🏽👏🏽 Thank you! 😍👩🏽🎨 Of course, I long to work completely gridless, right from my imagination. 😎 Just wanted to add that I love the art style in this tutorial. I love your realistic style too.
Wow totally awesome I pray one day I'll be that good I'm just a beginner I just started drawing about ice a month ago but I really been drawing all my life but not as intense as I started a month ago I have natural born artists in my family they were born drawing control just like you I hope and pray one day I can such beautiful work of art please keep it coming God bless you and much continuous success!

Kirsty Partridge Art yes! An accurate sketch for a realistic portrait tutorial!! Also one for animals😁
K.Tugs i am glad you enjoyed it and I have actually got a hair tutorial coming out tomorrow 😊💕

How you do the cross thing. I know how to do *_this_* is know how to do *this* and I know how to do _this_ but how do I do the cross thing

LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ggx Gangg what are you talking about
The best part of Kristy's videos is that she teaches throughout the video instead of a background music which other artists usually use. 😌 Thanks to that I am improving 😊
Who’s here during the quarantine? Always loved drawing as a child, enjoying getting back into it!
Ikr, quarantine is getting so boring, but at least it gives me time for my hobbies 😊🤩
It was time to pick up a new hobby
I like the idea of this because lots of beginners don't know how to draw the face, especially how to do the proportions

The most annoying thing in selftought drawing is that people will see it as a talent. They don't see the hard work and frustrations you've gone trough, they just say it's talent.
there's nothing wrong with being talented and having people say so imo.
Thank you! My husband and I are learning to draw together! We're so glad we found your channel!
Me: wow this is easy
Gets a paper pencil and an eraser
Me : wait can I even hold a pencil?
:D I feel as if that will be my reality also. I'm gonna test it out tonight. :P
Practice makes perfect😊
😂😂😂
Omg i cant write
Payton bell everyone isn’t perfect
Kirsty: draws lightly and says I’m making it abit harder so you can see it
Me: I’m trying to draw lightly but it’s as dark as a night sky
I do the exact same thing, no matter how light I press, it comes out dark.
Laurissa Adelhardt use a lighter pencil, and a lighter grip
Well try but am not so good but that cool
Ima ruin the 200 likes

This was so helpful!!! I always focus a lot on the shading/details and I look over the basics, like proportions, so this was great.

This made me laugh so hard. Reminds me of me except my mom was like "Is that a monster?"
I...I was drawing a normal man. 😭
Yes, more basic proportions (and basic everything), for the complete beginners, please!
You're a great teacher ♥️

I suck at proportions. This really helped me a lot. Thanks!
