  • When you anchor in a new port, you've got to figure out where to get food, fuel, water, and parts and how you're going to get to those places from your boat. This is how we figure that out.

When I shop for anything I remove allthe paper, cardboard & plastic packaging & throw it away at the stores garbage. Then put my items inside my recycle carry bags. That helps reduce a lot of trash on my sailboat. I don't buy any processed foods so that reduces a lot of trash. Cheers, S/V Cork~Texas ⛵🐬🇺🇸

We recently moved to NE Texas and learning 'what's where' takes time but we are retired so when we see a road and wonder "what's down there?" we just take a drive. It's a lot of fun and it's surprising what you find.

It’s weird being empty nesters at first you cook to much food and you don’t know what to do with yourself but after a tear you will be ok then we started traveling.

Let us consider the life of the "Empty Nester" and the life of the parents of, in your case, multiple children.
Quite aside from your personal lives, children are best prepared for life in the world by interacting with the world. They need choices, but they need to understand the ramifications of those choices. They need to learn what kinds of people live in the world, and what kinds of people make desirable friends. They need to be exposed to occupations and life choices so they can make reasoned decisions about those things.
Our shared beliefs as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints include one overarching tenet: freedom of choice.
One cannot have the freedom to choose if one does not know what the choices are. Children who are raised with one set of choices, those choices the parents make, cannot make strong, reasoned choices of their own.
Children must be allowed to try things out for themselves.
With that all being said, my opinion is that you two, Todd and Tammy, have raised children that are appropriately exposed to the world, are educated enough to be able to make reasoned choices, and are prepared to go out there and make choices.
No set of children are going to adhere perfectly to their parents' opinions and choices. If those children all decide on a different course of action than their parents took, that is not necessarily a bad thing. That can be a reflection on the fact that those children feel comfortable enough to make those choices.
I would posit that parents who have adult children who still love and respect them are successful parents.
As to your lives going forward without the responsibility of raising children, I would say this.
If you two still choose, not out of habit or fear but out of choice, to spend time together and continue to grow together, then I would call that a successful empty nester effort.
People who have spent their childbearing years devoted to their children are doing things right, but not if they have neglected their own personal growth and development.
Going forward, you two need to explore your minds, as well as your world.
Try new things together. Go new places together. Enjoy visiting the grandkids. Advise their parents when they ask.
And relax. You can be more relaxed now.
Grow closer as a couple in ways that you are comfortable with.
Like with any other major life experience, becoming empty nesters will be an adjustment. However, it does not need to be a bad thing.
Also, stay close to your faith.
That's one choice I have found that is never wrong.
