Hi everyone, I created a video to cover some of the common misconceptions about Google's Hiring Process and Negotiations. I really hope this video helps!
How does a referral impact in the process? I applied to a postion in a team that already has 2 former great colleagues from a previous job, I think I did well on the first round of the technical interview, not that good at the second one, I still have the Googleyness & Leadership to do.
@vinidutra97, referrals are really helpful at two times in the process. First is getting in the door. Second is at the Hiring Committee stage. If HC is on the fence about you, but you have incredibly strong referrals, sometimes this can tip the scale in your favor. But your overall interview performance still needs to be strong. GOOD LUCK!!
Thanks for the useful information! It is very helpful to understand the process. I have just passed the Google Hiring Assessment for the Fixed-Term position. Fingers crossed I will get contacted for the interview phase!
@gracewang4096, fantastic question! It is somewhat common, if I had to guess, it probably happens in less than half the cases, but still often enough. So basically, this is the hiring manager trusting the interviewers and the interview process and if the interview team identifies you as a strong fit, they will have an informal interview with you, very similar to a team match interview. Some HM's prefer a more casual approach. I hope this helps!
@monaliprasad9199, it really depends on the role, but you can be eliminated at the application/referral stage, after the Recruiter screen, after your initial phone interview, at any point during the virtual interview stage, during HC, or by the executive team if they do not approve the position.
hey Jeff! If I am currently interviewing for a role but the job posting has been removed. Does this means there are enough applicants or the role has been filled? Thanks❤
@yupeilin311, this has been such a funky practice over the last couple of years, but basically, I think they have been pulling down the job when they feel they have enough applicants in process. So this does not mean the job has been filled! Good luck!!
Interviews don't matter when you cannot team match since June 2022 when the hiring freeze has happened. My recommendation is not to waste time. I regret ever wasting time interviewing for Google only to always be stuck in team matching.
@techbeauty2450, I am sorry to hear that this was your experience! This is one of many facets in the hiring process that Google can improve. They likely will reach out again in the future, so obviously, it is up to you to decide whether or not you want to go through the process again!
My recruiuter told me that there is only 2 overall feedback for each round : thumbs up or thumbs down. not strong hire | lean hire | lean not hire | strong not hire
@nikhil199029, things are always changing, I have not heard about that change, let me ask a couple of friends and confirm if things have changed. The only thing I think right now is it would definitely be a thumbs up or thumbs down if it was for a TVC role.
Talk about rude interviewer. Last time I had an onsite at Google the interviewer couldn't stop playing video games on his phone. That was before COVID.
@bigbigdog, ugh, I am sorry to hear this happened! All companies including Google have bad interviewers! It is critical that in those situations you do your best to navigate the situation, but more importantly, instantly provide feedback about your experience to your point of contact.

Thank you for this information! Is it common not to interview with the hiring manger if the team is already selected?

What stage is the elimination stage Jeff? Do they only tell you at the end?
