Thanks Jeff, I really appreciate the Google content. I was wondering, could you make a video about the best steps to take towards getting hired at Google the second time around after failing during one of the stages?
Thanks Jeff, I made it to HC round for SWE position they took about 3 weeks, but I got no hire from them. Is there a chance my candidature will be considered again in the future
Jeff! I just got an offer after binge watching your videos throughout the interview process over the last few months. Thank you so much for all you do to help people wanting to break into Google!
@@jeffhsipepi I have my loops scheduled and i want to be able to come back and tell you that I got the job.. with level and compensation expected. Wish me luck :) :( Nervous!
Thanks, Jeff. I interviewed for the Network Implementation Engineer position, and my first interview went very well, allowing me to pass to the second round, which involved four interviews: three technical and one non-technical. One of the technical interviews didn’t go very well, but everything else was clear. However, regarding my situation, I was initially contacted by the first recruiter, who then left for vacation. I continued with another recruiter for the four interviews, but before I finished, she mentioned that she would be going on vacation, and the first recruiter would take over. She informed me that I would receive feedback about 5 days after completing the interviews if I passed, and also the hiring committee would review my application. It has now been 10 days without contact. Even after sending a polite follow-up email to the first recruiter 5 days ago, I still haven’t received any feedback. I also noticed that the job posting has been recreated on LinkedIn. So I don't know what to do now waiting more time or what
@aminemokretar6789, follow up again today and be gracious and kind. Send the email to your first Recruiter, cc the second Recruiter and say, "I hope both of you are well, I wanted to quickly check in to see if you have any updates regarding my status for the Network Engineer role? Have a great weekend! Thanks!" And regarding the posting being taken down, don't worry about that, keep us posted and good luck!
@@jeffhsipepi Thanks Jeff, I've sent email as you mentioned to me by Monday, and cc second recruiter but no feedback. I've also sent him yesterday invitation on LinkedIn and he accept me,but when I wrote to him message if there's any updates,I got no answers from him. Even I asked him if the process took a long time or if I've been rejected I accept your feedback but no answer. The recruiter from a different country than where the offer. and all my contacts was just by email. Also I've finished my interviews on 23 September. So I've 20 days without any feedback.
Hi Jeff, This was so helpful as I have been in the process for 3 months now (and I am a TVC). After phone screening, I had the interview with the hiring manager and then 5 interviews as part of the online onsite process. I was told by my recruiter that I am on of the finalist (1 month ago). My google referral who gets notified on my application status was the one who told me I was on the HC process (it's actually finalized as of today) because my recruiter never mentioned anything and takes quite sometime to send updates :( so THANK YOU for explaining the process, it helps to easy my anxiety!! Crossing fingers for great news soon!! Keep the great content coming! I have seen pretty much every video several times throughout my process and IT IS SO ON POINT! THANK YOU!!!
@@jeffhsipepi Thanks for reaching out Jeff. HM could not get another headcount and decided to go with the other candidate but since I have been approved to hire by HC I am now trying to team match. Hoping I can find a home soon!
Hi, thanks for your video! I interviewed with Google last month for a general SWE role (first time - thinking I didn't do too well), and to my surprise, my recruiter just got back to me with generally positive interviewer feedback, saying he would submit my packet for me to the HC. Even if I don't make it past HC, this was very interesting to learn about - I appreciate your video!
Thanks Jeff! I am currently waiting to find out when my packet will be sent to hiring committee for a TPM position. This helped me realize I have a greater chance than I first thought.
Thanks for this video! I passed the HC last month and currently in team matching phase for UXR. My understanding is this phase is the longest within the Google hiring process. Someone I know who switched to Google said it took him 4 months.
C Y, thank you for this comment, yes, it can take even longer than 4 months sometimes, the key is to be patient and stay in constant communication with your Recruiter, good luck!
Hi Jeff, maybe you don't remember me since I made a comment on different video few weeks ago. I am now waiting for the internal approval (maybe from HC) for my position (non-tech)! I think I have been growing up with your videos and the free materials on the website till this stage. No matter what the result would be, I appreciate your contents and insights.
Thanks Jeff. I finished my virtual on-site last week and was just told by the recruiter that they have decided not to move forward at this time. However, the recruiter reiterated that there were many positive feedbacks and said she would definitely stay in touch with me in the coming year. Any insight on what may have happened (wrt HC)? Any advice on what I can do to be better next time?
TakWD Luk, I am sorry to hear that you did not get the job. Unless the Recruiter told you that you made it to the HC stage, it is likely that you did not make it that far in the process. It is hard to know what you specifically could have done better, but I would say if you made it to the onsite stage you are doing some things right and continue preparing and practicing as much as you can.
I recently gave google interview and after 10 days of final interview the recruiter contact me through mail and asked me for transcript and told that she will update the status in couple of weeks But two weeks completed and i did not recieve any update till now
I currently am a TVC for 2 years now and recently just finished my final round of interviews with a team. Recruiter said I was finalist & "your candidacy is being presented to a few independent review boards, going thru these will lead to an offer." She also requested I send her my past job dates, degrees, if I needed relocation, & promotion history. Also, "we have recruiting approvals to gain before extending the official offer". What does this mean? Am I the only one they sent this too or are others being reviewed? I'm so excited but also don't know what they mean by this!
@lyricmeup2443, first of all, congrats! You Recruiter definitely should have been more clear in their messaging. After the big layoff at Google, they brought back Executive Review, this is essentially a check and balance to confirm the need for the role. I believe this is the approval she is referencing, but I am not 100% sure. Good luck, let us know what happens!
@sohamsaha4810, yes! HC looks at all the feedback combined to make a decision and, the hiring manager should address the LNH recommendation in their statement of support (HC will review this). Obviously, all candidates want Strong Hire scores in the interviews, but this rarely happens. Typically, one interviewer will provide a lower score. Good luck!!
I know that Meta has role based multipliers. For example would there be variation SWE : 1.0 , PM : 0.78 , PPM : 0.60 and so on. Can you confirm if Google too has role based multipliers for refreshers like Meta ? Or are refreshers allocated flatly only based on levels and performance and not roles.
498Afighter, it is definitely role based, so in theory, yes, SWE's would likely get more refreshers because typically, this is a high paying role. The ultimate goal of refreshers is that after the initial vest, you don't fall off a cliff in terms of comp.
Jeff thanks for your view. I got to know from my HR that I passed all interview for internship. Then now Im under the queue waiting for this hiring committee review and will hear back in 2 weeks. He asked for my competing offer deadline. I do have another deadline. I wonder should I give to him this information? If they meet once a week and cannot review me on first week. After got to know i have this deadline after 1 week. Will they just go ahead reject me and not giving me 2nd week time to review ?
Basically I want to ask. For interns, which is not specific role hiring so it has a large candidate pool, I assume ? For people waiting in HC queue, will they eventually going to be reviewed ? Is the timing of being reviewed and current headcount condition affect result ? Or it’s a rolling basis and I mean the later candidates might be just rejected without being viewed if previous hiring candidates already took all the headcount of next year summer intern ?
yzz206 Zz, yes, now and in the future, always let your Recruiters know when you have a competing offer(s) because they can only help you if they know. They will not reject you for providing this info.
yzz206 Zz, you are reviewed independently from others. If you are told you are being submitted to HC, you packet should be reviewed unless you are told otherwise. And yes, at some point the positions will fill up, but anyone that has passed through the interviews successfully should go to HC. Good luck!
Hey Jeff, I got (Phone screen: Hire, R1: Lean Hire, R2: Hire, R3: Lean Hire, G&L: Hire) = 2 Lean Hire & 3 Hires for the SWE L3 role. How much are the chances of passing through the Hiring Committee?
@AbhishekKumar-be7tx, unfortunately, I am not going to be able to alleviate your anxiety. This could go either way in HC? The good news, you controlled what you could control, now, it is just the waiting game, good luck!
Hi Jeff! First of all, thank you for providing us with such incredible content. It has really been enlightening! And I’d like to thank you for the compromise of answering the questions from everyone you can across all these years! I’d like to make a question too. I think I did pretty well on my on-site interviews for a SWE position, and 1 and a half week later my recruiter told me they wanted to complete my packet with my CV, Transcript and other data. Does that mean I’m going to HC right now or that I’ve passed it? This 1 week interval made me think i was going through it.
@yrmew7452, thank you so much for the positive feedback! Yes, this sounds like you are going to HC and or you are making it to the final stages of the process. Sometimes, Recruiters at Google fail to provide more specific details/context to candidates to help them understand exactly where they stand. It is 100% okay to check in with them to get more clarity. I wish the best of luck!!
@@jeffhsipepi thank you so much! In my case, my recruiter specifically told me they “cannot give any more details since it is an internal stage” and that my process was “not over yet”. Throughout my whole process I’ve been informed I’d not be receiving any specific feedback at the end of it. I wonder if thats a new policy, because my position that had too many candidates or is a regional thing (I’m from Latin America)
@@yrmew7452 Ok, but this is a poor communication tactic on their end, a little more context without revealing anything to you is very easy for them to do. Keep us posted!
@@yrmew7452hi Are u Brazilian? I’m almost in the same situation Two weeks ago my recruiter asked for transcript and updated resume to update the packet that will be sent to seniors engineers Did you get any sure from recruiter about this step? If is the HC or just another review . 4 days ago i received the team matching form to fill with the preferences, but i want to know if the previous step (same as yours) was already the HC or just other step
Hi Jeff, Thanks for the video! I interviewed with Google in August (Software Engineer role). A week after my interview, my recruiter emailed me that "all the interview feedback is submitted and your interview packet will be reviewed over the next few days". Two weeks later, my recruiter said that my packet was sent for review, and they decided not to proceed. You mentioned in the video that if a packet is sent to HC before team matching, that is a sign that they're pretty confident that they'll make it through. So my question is: if my packet was pretty good, why would the HC reject me immediately, and not at least give me a chance to do team matching, and see if I can get a manager recommendation?
Amrom, it sounds like your packet was reviewed, but maybe not by HC? Did the Recruiter make it 100% that your packet was sent to HC? This still does happen where a candidate can get rejected by HC, but usually Recruiters will not take this risk.
@@jeffhsipepi Thanks Jeff! Is there any other "review" that is part of the process (other than HC)? My recruiter made it clear that it "was sent for review" and not just that he reviewed the packet. He did not explicitly say that it was sent to HC though. I would reach out to him to ask him for more details, but he was not very forthcoming with feedback at that point, and probably doesn't even remember now that it's a few months later.
@@amromsteinmetz6881, I think it is okay to reach back out and say you were hoping for a little more clarity and if he could look you up in the system if he does not remember, it is worth trying!
Does Google internally verify the Google Cloud certifications, labs, and arcade games completed by candidates? Furthermore, do these achievements enhance one's prospects of being hired compared to other candidates?
@sanjaysukumaran4248, I have not seen Google verify any external certifications, in regards to labs and games, as long as those were not Google specific assignments, I would also say highly unlikely. These items alone do not increase the chances of getting hired at Google, but I do believe learning, and learning in the specific areas Google cares about, really helps during the interviews.
Hi Jeff, Thanks a lot for the awesome videos, love them! I have 2 virtual onsite interviews tomorrow and another 3 the day after. I just wonder, if HC reviews all the interview questions and answers, does this mean I should avoid repeating my examples for behavior questions in the interviews? Many thanks in advance!
hi Jeff, thanks for making this video. I recently found your channel and have been watching many of your past livestreams -- appreciate the content and your various insights. I had my my onsite interview for a general SWE L3 position a couple days ago, and my recruiter relayed to me a day after my interviews that he got all the informations (i guess from the interviewers) he needed and that i am able to move forward to the HC. I got the impression from many online sources that (at least for SWE) it is ALWAYS that you go to HC before team match, i've never seen any mention of team match and getting a hiring manager's support BEFORE going to HC until this video. i am wondering if it is more of a per-recruiter basis for how the order of how these things go, like if recruiters choose their own rules on the ordering of these. because If I base on what you mentioned here, i guess i should feel pretty happy getting to the HC, but if I base on other online informations, it seems like it is just a standard procedure / not indication of my performance being strong or anything. Thoughts?
@@jeffhsipepi thank you for the reply. I got an email 2 days after the recruiter said I was going to HC, that I was approved for L3 SWE! Now I have team matching left so I have watched your video on team matching :)
Thanks, Jeff, I just finished 4 google interviews for the swe2 role today and did pretty well on 2 technical rounds and the behaviour one. However, in the last technical round, I was able to finish most of the part of the code and the thoughts were right but there was a bug I could not find at the end, the follow-up question I did well. What if there are 3 hires against 1 lean no-hire or no-hire, will this be a no-hire for sure? Thanks!
Hey Jeff, your videos have been extremely helpful for me to navigate through the google process, thank you! A question: I got a reject from HC but my recruiter feels I should get anothrt shot and wants to present my case to another HC. Is this common? And is there still a chance of getting a different outcome in my favor?
A couple questions, are there also hiring committee’s for SWE Intern positions? And so the steps are 1. Online Resume screening 2. Online assessment 3. Phone Interview 4. On-site interviews 5. HC Meeting
Jeff, This was very helpful. Can you please share your insights around when does the compensation and level get decided in the process. It looks like the level gets decided within HC but compensation does not. And how often do levels go higher during offer negotiations. If after the HC approval, team matching starts, then does the compensation get negotiated only after a team matching is successful? It's unclear to me where in the entire hiring process do the level and compensation decisions get made.
P B, great questions! I really should have discussed levels in this video! Maybe that is another video! Level is ultimately determined by HC. And only in the rarest of cases will it change after their first decision. There is an appeal process that the Recruiter and Hiring Manager can go through to get you up leveled, but ultimately, it would have to go back through HC. Compensation happens after HC and technically could start before team matching if you went to HC first, but typically compensation is only handled once you have a team and have passed HC. HC does not make any compensation decisions. I hope this answers your questions, let me know if you have more!
Any insight on why a google recruiter has not responded for over a week after final interview? Recruiter said he would have feedback 8 days ago- radio silence. Note, GCP is using an external recruiting company for this role

@@jeffhsipepi no this is an internal role. But GCP is using an external Recruiter - RPO contract… interestingly the JD is removed. This is helpful because I was not sure about the follow up cadence. I had followed up once via phone and no response. Any suggestions on what to say when following up?
Thanks for sharing all your wisdom. Extremely helpful! How long does it usually take after interviewing to hear concrete next steps? I’ve seen some posts where no news is good news and others stating that you’ve been iced if you don’t hear back quickly. Any guidance? Thanks!
Tiffany, it depends, every situation is different, but a good rule of thumb is to follow up with your Recruiter if you have not heard from them in 5 business days, at any stage of the process.
My son has completed three successful interviews for a Software Engineer position at Google via online mode in October 2023. The status on the dashboard has progressed from "Feedback Pending" to "Review Pending," then to "Feedback Submit," and finally to "Last Update Offer Approved." He contacted to the recruiter, she said that you are in 'Time Matching Phase' wait for some time, your chances for confirmation is 60-40%. However, despite this progress, he has not received any communication or confirmation from Google yet. He's feeling uncertain about his status. Kindly suggest in this regard. Warm Regards

Thanks Jeff for this amazing video. So many rounds. It can be a bit daunting. The percentages are interesting. Thanks for the candor. Really makes you want to put your best foot forward and prepare, prepare, prepare. It's a lot of work from both parties. A few questions: 1) Is the HC stage virtual like the on site or in person? Thanks for your responses in advance.
Hi Jeff! I think I come under option one for the HC route as I am going for a niche role, does that mean the HC is less likely to have multiple candidates being assessed?
@DataDriven592, typically, for a niche role, if you make it to HC, you are the only candidate for that specific job going to HC. Hiring Managers do not submit multiple candidates to HC for the same position. They write a statement of support that is included with the interview feedback for their preferred candidate. I hope this answers your question, if not, please let me know.
Hi Jeff, I’m slightly confused with what’s going on with my application. My recruiter said they cannot tell me the feedback from my interviews as of yet. I finished my onsite and when I checked in on next steps after two days - I was informed that the recruiter is waiting to hear from the Hiring Manager. Does this mean it’s already reached HC? Is he going to HM and then will send to HC? Where am I in the stages - anything you can help me decipher? Btw - on a different note, thank you for making these videos - they helped me with each stage in the process
@dhruvberry, it does not sound like you are at the HC stage yet. My best guess is you are one of a few candidates that has completed their interviews and the feedback was strong enough to share with the hiring manager to make the decision of whether or not to move forward to HC. Keep us posted! And thank you for the positive feedback, good luck!
Hey Jeff, I have been Interviewed for support role. And post hiring team review the recruiter reached out to me stating for Additional Interview, What does that mean can you please elaborate. Waiting for your response. Thank you
Faisal, they did not see enough strength/data in a particular area and they want to interview you again to learn more. It means there was enough positive signal the first time around, but not enough to move forward. Good luck!

Hi Jeff. I hope you are doing great. sir i have a doubt regarding interviews given by me recently. These are the ratings below Screening round. - Hire. In my Onsite rounds the feedback is: leaning no hire, leaning hire and Strong Hire and Strong hire in the googlyness round. And for all rounds above i reached optimal solutions but in one round i was not able to write edge case but i mentioned that case in starting now my question is will Hiring committee or hiring manager see my subjective feedback also because subjective feedback given by interviewers are very positive So according to you what could be the outcome for above scenario
@opplkj3180, overall, the feedback is positive. I cannot guarantee that they will move forward, but you have a few good ratings. There is always a possibility that they have you redo the weakest interview as well. Good luck!!
@@jeffhsipepiyes that can be the case also. but main concern is that will hiring committee or hiring manager look into subjective feedback or ratings only? because except one round i.e it was like i discussed brute force approach, then optimal but not able to find the edge case even after i dry run the code. and interviewer has one more question to ask but not able to discuss that. in other interviews i did not repeat this mistake. and got very positive feedback. so according to you what could be the outcome. will they downlevel or take additional round?

Hey Jeff! I wanted to say that your videos have been incredibly helpful throughout my interview process at Google. I recently interviewed for an Account Manager role in LCS. So far, I’ve had my initial recruiter call, a hiring manager call, and my final round interview with both a team member and someone cross-functional. It’s been a week since the final interview, and I’m waiting to hear back. My recruiter mentioned last Friday that they’re still deliberating, but I received really positive feedback from the interviewers. However, she didn’t mention anything about moving to HC. Is it common for recruiters to notify candidates when they’ve moved to HC?
@grantlaughlin4117, first of all good luck!! Recruiters should provide as much transparency as they can. You should hear back either way. If you have not heard anything by Thursday morning, I would check in with your Recruiter.
@@jeffhsipepi It’s interesting because the recruiter mentioned they’d be making a final decision by the end of this week. I feel like if I didn’t make it to the hiring committee, they would have let me know by now.

@meghanareddymn, two big items. Bring great excitement and enthusiasm to the conversation. Second is to ask them questions about them! What do you love about Google, your role, the team, etc. Get them talking about themselves. GOOD LUCK!!!
Hi. When a hiring commitee decides a "NO", does the recruiter always get to know the why behind the No? To put it in other words: Do the HC provide a reason/rationale for no-hire? Thanks.
Jeff - thanks for this awesome video and all the rest. I'm going to hiring committee next Tuesday and am nervous as can be! If I have a statement of support letter from a hiring manager does that help a lot? They are said they need to evaluate the technical bar for me to get the "T" in "TpM". Is that typical? Thanks for everything!
Jon, good luck tomorrow. A statement of support is typical for most Program Managers. Hi Jeff, I love your content! I interviewed at Google Munich, passed the on site, recruiter told me the feedback looked good, so I went to the HM interview phase, (they told me this is how they do it nowadays). I had 4 HM interviews in 2 weeks after on-site, so things are moving really fast there. @@jeffhsipepi just to let you know, I got an offer 💪 So the hiring process (at least for Munich) basically is get a score from the technical interviews (I think it's auto calculated based on their feedback in the system), if that score is above some certain threshold you get moved to the HM phase, and once you match with a team then the HC does the final check and I don't think the rejection rate at this stage is high, because a person would've wasted a lot of HM time and effort for nothing. Anyway thanks a lot for your content!

How important is it and how much weight does it carry in the eyes of the hiring committee? I just finished team match and moving to HC next. Thank you.
kirrapoint, it does help, does it change everything, no, but a good statement of support can overcome some questions especially if they are addressed well.
Thank you very much, Jeff! Your video definitely relieved my anxiety (made it to the Waymo HC and waiting for the feedback). Two questions: 1) Would Waymo HC be very similar or different to Google HC? 2) While waiting for Waymo, I've conducted a Google phone interview. Would my performance at Google's interview be visible to Waymo HC?
Hi Jeff, first of all, I would like to thank you for the time that you take for your videos, it's very insightful and valuable to everyone! I'm currently applying at Google in France, and I bombed my first interview and decided to move on with my life. Yet, surprisingly, the recruiter came back to me to go to the next stage, adding my interviewer appreciated my transparency and the fact that I had realised my mistakes during the interview. Knowing I failed my first interview, and yet they decided to give me another opportunity. If I score high for the next ones, will I ever have a chance at the hiring committee? I know it depends on every case but I value your feedback on this :)
Hi Jeff! Hope all is well. My recruiter said he is has meeting with the hiring team mid afternoon Friday and will be able to share concrete update after that. I was wondering if hiring team and hiring committee are the same or different? I know I’m commenting on an older post but I really hope you can respond 🙂.. Thank you Jeff.
Hi Jeff, Amazing content and advice! I have a question. I passed my technical interview for the Cloud Technical Resident role and was invited to continue interviewing. I just had my GCA and Googleyness interviews, but I felt like I underperformed in the Googleyness interview. How likely am I to make it to the hiring committee? My technical interviewer was really impressed with my skills and even stayed 15 minutes after the interview to get to know me. Also, this is my second time interviewing for the same role. I felt much more prepared and got a referral, so I don’t know if that helps.
@MrWowfan305, I can never provide a great answer on whether or not you will make it to HC without seeing the feedback, but the good news is that you performed well overall. They take a look at the overall feedback to decide whether or not to move forward to HC. You may also have a chance to redo the G&L if all the other feedback is really strong. Good luck!!!
Hi Jeff, very curious to know if the hiring committee for the recent apprenticeships will be looking at all of these things as well, granted the applicants are required to be more entry-level

Hi Jeff! Thanks so much again for your content. I left a comment a few weeks ago about a role at google - I decided to go forward with it and see how it goes. The interviews went well and I just got the verbal offer. The process has been very quick to my surprise… For instance the recruiter called me 5 minutes after my interview ended to schedule the next one. Within an hour after I finished my final interview (5th), the recruiter called me to talk about moving forward & salary expectations. I asked about needing to go to HC but he said they don’t need to go to HC as all feedback has been very positive. The whole process (1st interview to verbal offer) only took about 2 weeks. How often does this happen? I’m trying to see if there’s a red flag potentially?? Just surprised how fast everything moved and not going to HC… Also unfortunately the salary they are suggesting is a lot lower than my expectation… how much leverage do you think I have here given how the process has been? I don’t have any competing offers at hand and just started the interview process with another FAANG company. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
DK, I know I am late to reply, but this all sounds positive except for the low comp. You can always negotiate even without competing offers and really try to push up the equity. CONGRATS!!!!
Hi Jeff, thank you for doing this video. I recently finished my onsite with (3 hire + 1 lean hire). How likely will I get an offer? In Team Match stage will the hiring manager checks for the feedbacks? is there any chance hiring manager to avoid candidates based on feedback?
David, I can never provide percentages, but this feedback sounds good. When hiring managers consider candidates they definitely review the interview feedback before deciding to speak with them.
I also didn’t get an offer. Hiring manager doesn’t think my case is strong. I have to wait for 2 months and they might take another round but it’s mostly a no hire
Hi Jeff, I was interviewing for a specific role, and just got notified that I passed hiring committee but the hiring manager wound up moving forward with another candidate. I’m meeting with another hiring manager later this week to try to find me a match in a lateral role, but what should my expectations be in terms of outline and timeline?
A Caitlin, if you already passed HC and this other HM likes your and it is for a similar role, they should be able to move to the offer stage with HM approval, good luck!!
Jerry, the people that interviewed you should never be a part of the Hiring Committee. HC should be made of a group of peers in like/similar roles that are looking at the interview feedback without having ever spoken with you.
hi Jeff, Firstly, I want to thank you for every videos that you produce every month😊. They are all very useful... I personally finished the interviews via meet, and yesterday the recruiter called me saying that "for now they intend to proceed with other candidates", but that they would like me to apply in the future for other positions. How should I interpret this communication in your opinion? How soon, in your experience, could I reapply? The recruiter told me that, if I want we can talk to discuss the feedback. Do you think it can be useful? Thank you Antonio
Antonio, definitely chat with the Recruiter and see if you can get more data. It likely means that there was not enough positive data to pass these interviews, but enough good feedback to encourage you to apply again, good luck in that chat!
Hey Jeff, I was interviewing with google for engg manager role. From the start of the process, they were thinking I’m between L5 & L6. I Passed all the rounds, recruiter seemed positive on interview results and sent me to HC. Disappointing that I got rejected at this stage. They didn’t find me 100% fit for L6. They considered me for L5 but L5 needs more technical skills compare to L6 which according to them I was lacking. What do you think about this ?
Believer V, I am sorry to hear this result. You likely did well, but likely fell a little short on the leadership side to allow HC to proceed with L6. If you got to this stage, you will have another chance, trust me, they will reach out again! Continue to learn and grow, and work on your interview skills.
Hey Jeff , how does this change for new grades ? I have an on-site for a TSE role , I have a system design problem to complete. How strict are they with new grads ?
M S, it is a good question, HC members will looks at everything including your resume, but gaps in employment are so common these days, I do not think that item would change their decision
Hi Jeff, I just completed my onsite round on Thursday and when I followed up with recruiter on Friday regarding next step. He told that he needs to review my interview data with team after I will get update, but he didn’t mention hiring committee. Does he meant hiring committee or there is any other step involved between onsite and HC?
Priya Patel, this doesn't sound like HC, but more of a hiring manager review before HC. It is always okay to ask your Recruiter for more clarity, good luck!
Hi Jeff, thanks for the video. Please I will like to know what is the hiring summary document? Is it the document a recruiter makes before the hiring committee meets or is the document a recruiter will make after a candidate has been accepted by the hiring committee?
Ghislain, this document includes interview feedback, reference information, the candidate's resume, and in most cases a Hiring Manager statement of support. This submitted before HC, so they can review all the information before they meet to discuss.
Hi Jeff, Thank for all the videos and support, Just a question, Wouldn't Hiring manager be a part of the hiring committee ? Also if hiring manager has already been a part of one the interview then there would be no need for team match interview ?
@kaash87, great questions! Hiring Managers are not a part of hiring committee unless they get a special exception to explain something unique about the candidate's case. HC doesn't want them in that meeting influencing the decisions. Secondly, yes, probably at least half the interviews at Google start with an identified hiring manager and therefore in these scenarios no team match is necessary.
Is it common/acceptable to get an indicator from your recruiter on the interview feedback before HC? Basically, can I ask the recruiter what each interviewer submitted?
Hi Jeff ! My recruiter told me I made it to the HC but they found that I have switched a lot of job so seem unstable and would like to conduct another round of interview. What should I expect ? The role I applied is Account Manager.
Thanks for sharing this info. I was not very happy with my experience just coz of the time spent and the ambiguity in feedback. I had very positive interview feedback. Also had the team match immediately after. Despite this, the Hiring Committee did not approve. 1. Why would the committee reject a candidate who has already been recommended to be hired by all interviewers and gotten a team match? I didnt hear any strong reason from the HR, just some generic comments. Seems kind of unfair. 2. Why should the opinions of all interviewers be negated by HC? The interviewers have spent time asking, analysing, handling design challenges. Ideally, maybe HC should have weighatge but it is strange they can just overrule everything. 3. In my opinion, a candidate can be judged better through conversation rather than just a paper profile. 4. If HC always rejects a certain % it seems biased rather than unbiased. What if all the candidates are good, it seems like the focus is on numbers rather than actuals.
ethnne, I am sorry to hear this result. The reality is HC looks at each individual case and does not look to accept or reject a certain percentage of candidates. It is another layer to get into Google and it is not always easy and sometimes does not feel fair. I would recommend that you keep trying if you really want to work there, you will have more chances.
sriramkuravi, yes, this happens all the time. HC does want to make sure candidates are being set up for success in the position, down leveling is common and something I should have covered in the video!
This happened to me. I got down levelled for the role I applied. I hesitated to accept it at first, but the recruiter was kind enough to discuss the feedback thoroughly and their reasoning. So with long term focus in mind, I went with it.
Hi Jeff, Amazing video, thank you so much for the information! I’m currently in the hiring committee phase and I wanted to ask if it’s appropriate to ask my recruiter to provide me with feedback regarding the ratings of my interviews? (strong hire, hire, lean hire etc..)
Hi@@jeffhsipepi ! I’ve been in the HC phase for the past 4 weeks now and I should have had an answer 3 weeks ago. I am in touch with 3 new different point of contacts (recruiters) from my original recruiter. I followed your advice and asked in a very nice and friendly way about when would I receive the final outcome but no one is committing to a timeline. What should I do in this situation? As it is starting to get out of hand.
@@Gio-vs6fr I agree this is pretty ridiculous and not providing clear and honest answers is just poor communication. Keep up the same approach and I strongly recommend if at all possible, trying to interview and get a competing offer, I know this is way easier said than done, but this is something you can control. Keep us posted!
I've been invited to interview and the email says there are 3 rounds Round 1) RRK and GCA with two people: 60 minutes Round 2) Googleyness and Leadership with cross functional colleague: 45 minutes Round 3) RRK and GCA with senior manager: 60 minutes Do you think that extra hiring committee would come after this or would there be extra phases? From your last part of the video it doesn't sound like it but just checking. The email doesn't mention the phrase "hiring committee" but I assume this is the three rounds. This is a fully remote cybersecurity post based in EMEA (not software engineering).
@TheWeightliftingTriathlete, yes, HC would come after these interviews with a strong performance. Not all candidates will have to go through HC, but most do. You can definitely ask your Recruiter if HC is part of the process for your role. And the good news is that you don't have to do anything at that stage. If you make it to HC, it means you have done well. Candidates are not involved in the process at this stage. Good luck!!!
Hello Jeff, great content as always! I’ve been looking at a lot of your videos as I’m preparing for my final interview for a position that I would reeeallly love to land. I saw in one of your most recent live videos that HC maybe don’t take place anymore. I’m in EMEA, do you know if it’s the case or not ? Thank you dearly
Hi Jeff, I did my on-site and received good feedback according to my recruiter. I have calls with 1-2 teams this coming week and my package will be sent to HC later this week. I am not sure if this is means I did really well and I’m skipping team matching or I didn’t crush it hence why I have a few calls this week. I am a bit confused as i got the impression that my application will be going to HC this week regardless but I also have calls this week with different teams. Any clarification would be awesome!
David, I am confused too, just make sure that you are asking your Recruiter what is going on, they should be clearly defining the exact steps for you, good luck!!
@@jeffhsipepiThanks for the response. I confirmed with my recruiter that I will be going to HC first. In your experience, people who go to HC first, is there still a good chance of being rejected at HC? Thanks!
Hi Jeff, as I mentioned in another of your videos, my last GCA call was pretty weird and the kind of questions felt more like another RRK (past experience questions) that I already had 1 week before (which I already pointed out and asked to my recruiter about it, thanks for the tip!). I have a question, that GCA interview was really weird and I felt the interviewer was kind of rude, let me explain: at the end of the interview in the Questions to recruiter section, I asked the interviewer (who was a stakeholder - vendor manager - of the team I'm being considering to) the following: "can you give an example of the type of requests your team passes to the team I'm applying to, to have an idea of the scope and challenge of those requests?", and she told me "I would refrain to answer that question because is confidential information", then I replied: "ok, but how about a generic example with no specific data whatsoever about your clients or people?, I'd really like to understand the scope of the cases you send to the team I'm applying to", and then she said :" again, I would like to refrain to answer that question".....I felt that pretty odd and later I thought: I signed an NDA for these interviews, so that part of confidentiality in any case should be covered, right?, besides, I was just asking for a generic example, not specifics, and she didn't want to provide it. And I saw it unfair that the recruiters ask for specific quantifiable information of past projects we've had in other companies (which can be considered confidential information too, right?) but this Google recruiter wouldn't like to tell even generic info from her side?. I say all this because in this video you said that also the Hiring Committee review the interviewer's performance, notes or kind of questions. Would this type of scenario show up in their review to assess if the interviewer did a good gob?. Thanks a lot again for your feedback!
Maximus, interesting, this is one of the reasons that I encourage all candidates to ask fluffy questions, because you will get interviewers that don't want to share. HC does review the notes, but only for what the interviewer writes down, so you are at the mercy of what they put in their notes.
@@jeffhsipepi took a while but I’m glad I’m done with it. I got an offer from Google and just wanted to say thank you for your videos. They helped a lot 👊🏾
@@jeffhsipepi Is the hiring committee reviewing the candidate for a specific Level? or just the Role? Have you ever seen a candidate get bumped up a level (say from a level 4 to a Level 5). If so, at what stage of the process?
Ritwik Kumar, for all candidates, HC will confirm that the interview feedback is strong enough to move forward, including looking at any documented code.
Hi Jeff! just wondering if i had 2 strong interviews and 1 weaker one, what are the chances of being hired for an intern position? I also interviewed last year as well, will the feedback from previous interviews aid the decision?
Janice, it is really hard to know without knowing the hiring recommendations, but they will look at the collective feedback. And they will consider previous feedback as well. Good luck!
caco caco, this sounds like good news, they just want the HM to put a little more effort into the SOS, so you will just need to be patient and hopefully the HM is able to highlight why you are a strong fit for the position, good luck!
Hi Jeff, First off thanks a lot for these videos - they are extremely helpful! I just finished doing my last Interviews for a cloud residency position with google early this week. My recruiter emailed me recently and said that they would hopefully have a status update for me next week regarding my application. I was wondering if this process contains HC or not? There is a stage called "application review" but I was wondering if that corresponded to HC or not. Thanks again for your time and great videos!!
Pwndzz, they should really be telling you specifically if you are going to HC and or what stage of the process you are at, I would reach back out and ask, good luck!
Hi Jeff, thanks for the video! Does the 40% factor in jobs like product management? Where your not intervening for a specific role, rather, your in a pool with several jobs available?
Hi Jeff! Thanks for the information and great video! I just finished my virtual on-site for a Web Solutions Engineer role last week and my recruiter told me that the response from my interviewers were solid. But she said that she has no teams for me as of yet. Does this mean she’s waiting for a team for me before sending my files to HC? Also what’s the likelihood of me finding a team to possibly match to? Appreciate your help!
Seth, a WSE role, wow, I used to recruiter for this role and totally forgot about it. Yes, they are waiting for a team match before HC, I can never say the likelihood, but make sure you create a follow up cadence with your Recruiter, good luck!
Hi Jeff! Love your content! I just finished my interviews for a PM position and I felt really good about it :). My recruiter told me that for the feedback received it was very good!! I am super pumped. However, she mentioned interviewers evaluated me at both L3 and L4 levels. For L3 I got 1 lean hire 3 hires and 1 strong hire and for L4 got one no hire and then rest lean or hires. Now, my packet is being taken to hiring committee. What do you think will happen here? Does it help that the interviewers evaluated me at both of these levels?
Userhappygal, if approved, it would be at an L3, the scores are not high enough to be approved at L4, good luck, come back and let us know the results!
Hi Jeff, thanks for the video it is helpful. Does HC evaluate packets from previous years? I passed the hc two years ago however the pandemic caused a hiring freeze for that role so i didn't get to the end. I wonder will hc take previous result into consideration? Also, recruiter called me and discussed compensation with me before sending to HC. I was told the feedbacks were good and rare case HC will reject a packet, that was very surprising as you mentioned the passing rate is 35%.
Florrie, yes HC will take a look at past feedback. My best guess is your packet is strong and that is why your Recruiter is saying it is unlikely you will not pass HC, because it is quite common to not pass HC, good luck!!
Watches & Whammy Bars, I am sorry to hear this news, but it isn't all bad, when you make it this far, you will definitely have another chance, either later this year or early next year most likely!
Hi Jeff, what do you think the changes of making it to HC stage once doing well in the Role related interview? Are you actively still doing coaching sessions?
Hi Jeff ! I liked your video's and your content are very helpful and informatics. I had additional round recently after HC recommendation and Interview went fine , what are my chances of getting get hire recommendations form HC this time?
Ashish, unfortunately, I cannot tell you the likelihood because I cannot see your feedback, ideally, I am really looking for that follow up interview after HC to be great, not fine, but we will have to wait and see, good luck!

Does someone stand a chance at crossing the HC barrier , if they got one of the interview feedback as Leaning No-Hire?
By the way the competing offer is from a small company which I don’t want to go.
Good luck!

@yrmew7452, thank you so much for the positive feedback! Yes, this sounds like you are going to HC and or you are making it to the final stages of the process. @@jeffhsipepithank you for your content man, is awesome 🎉
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the video!
Hi Jeff,
Thanks a lot for the awesome videos, love them!
I have 2 virtual onsite interviews tomorrow and another 3 the day after. I just wonder, if HC reviews all the interview questions and answers, does this mean I should avoid repeating my examples for behavior questions in the interviews?

hi Jeff, thanks for making this video.
Thoughts?
mellishistic, I have seen the process vary for even SWEs in different groups, the good news is that you are going to HC! Keep us posted.
Thanks!
@charleszhang1578, they look at the feedback as a whole, overall it sounds positive, good luck!
Hey Jeff, your videos have been extremely helpful for me to navigate through the google process, thank you! A question: I got a reject from HC but my recruiter feels I should get anothrt shot and wants to present my case to another HC. Is this common?

Hi Jeff! I think I come under option one for the HC route as I am going for a niche role, does that mean the HC is less likely to have multiple candidates being assessed?
@DataDriven592, typically, for a niche role, if you make it to HC, you are the only candidate for that specific job going to HC. In my Onsite rounds the feedback is: leaning no hire, leaning hire and Strong Hire and Strong hire in the googlyness round.
And for all rounds above i reached optimal solutions but in one round i was not able to write edge case but i mentioned that case in starting
now my question is will Hiring committee or hiring manager see my subjective feedback also
because subjective feedback given by interviewers are very positive
So according to you what could be the outcome for above scenario

@@jeffhsipepi just to let you know, I got an offer 💪
So the hiring process (at least for Munich) basically is get a score from the technical interviews (I think it's auto calculated based on their feedback in the system), if that score is above some certain threshold you get moved to the HM phase, and once you match with a team then the HC does the final check and I don't think the rejection rate at this stage is high, because a person would've wasted a lot of HM time and effort for nothing.

Andy, you can, they might not tell you, but it is a fair question to ask.
Hi Jeff !
My recruiter told me I made it to the HC but they found that I have switched a lot of job so seem unstable and would like to conduct another round of interview. What should I expect ? The role I applied is Account Manager.
Sanchita, make sure you get full clarity from your Recruiter on how many more interviews, you should not have to redo all of them!
Hi Jeff. Is there a chance that if a candidate applied for level 5 but based on interview feedback HC can downgrade the candidate to Level 4?
sriramkuravi, yes, this happens all the time.
Hi Jeff! Compared to full-time role, do intern role candidates have higher chances passing HC?
Alan, I would say the percentages are likely pretty similar for Interns.
Hi Jeff,
Amazing video, thank you so much for the information! I’m currently in the hiring committee phase and I wanted to ask if it’s appropriate to ask my recruiter to provide me with feedback regarding the ratings of my interviews? (strong hire, hire, lean hire etc..)
Gio, you can always ask! They may not tell you, but give it a shot.
I've been invited to interview and the email says there are 3 rounds
Round 1) RRK and GCA with two people: 60 minutes
Round 2) Googleyness and Leadership with cross functional colleague: 45 minutes
Round 3) RRK and GCA with senior manager: 60 minutes
Do you think that extra hiring committee would come after this or would there be extra phases?
Lorenzo, it depends, sometimes yes, sometimes no, control what you can control, crush that final interview!
Hi Jeff,
I did my on-site and received good feedback according to my recruiter.
Thanks!
Does this process vary for programs such as BOLD or APM or APMM programs? If so, how?
lilybind, I cannot speak to the end of the process for BOLD, I believe APM and APMM roles follow this process.
Hey Jeff I made it to HC and in terms of percentages. (For an IT support role) how likely is someone to pass the HC
CTX, unfortunately I cannot answer this question, but good luck!!
@@jeffhsipepi took a while but I’m glad I’m done with it. I got an offer from Google and just wanted to say thank you for your videos. They helped a lot 👊🏾
@@kellyevbuomwan6935 AMAZING, CONGRATS!!!!!!!
Does hiring committee take level into consideration and up leveling and down leveling?
AirLiu, can you restate your question? Do you mean a candidate's level at their current company? If so, no.
@@jeffhsipepi Is the hiring committee reviewing the candidate for a specific Level? or just the Role? Have you ever seen a candidate get bumped up a level (say from a level 4 to a Level 5). If so, at what stage of the process?
Hey Jeff, does HC also checks code written by candidate as well?
Ritwik Kumar, for all candidates, HC will confirm that the interview feedback is strong enough to move forward, including looking at any documented code.
Hi Jeff! just wondering if i had 2 strong interviews and 1 weaker one, what are the chances of being hired for an intern position? I also interviewed last year as well, will the feedback from previous interviews aid the decision?
Janice, it is really hard to know without knowing the hiring recommendations, but they will look at the collective feedback. And they will consider previous feedback as well. Good luck!
Hey Jeff. Awesome Video. What does it mean when HC issues a HOLD without request for more interviews. Just more details in the statement of support?
caco caco, this sounds like good news, they just want the HM to put a little more effort into the SOS, so you will just need to be patient and hopefully the HM is able to highlight why you are a strong fit for the position, good luck!
@@jeffhsipepi Awesome. Thank you, Jeff. You rock!
Hi Jeff,
First off thanks a lot for these videos - they are extremely helpful!
Mahdi, I cannot say for sure, but likely something around 40% would be my best guess.
Thanks for the video. If you pass the hiring committee, how likely an applicant will fail at the SVP sign-off stage?
Xiaoliu, SVP review no longer exists, Google has removed this step in the process.
@@jeffhsipepi Thanks! That’s good to know🙂
I got to the HC! But then I didn't get an offer. 😞
Haydee, it is about the collective feedback, not just one interview, good luck! Yup, still coaching!!
Hi Jeff, I had done my 4 interviews..how much time taken for results. Or else shall we ask to recruiter? Can you please suggest

Hi Jeff!
First of all, thank you for such great content.
I was added to a process for Account Manager Role last week, recruiter call, hiring manager interview and peer interview all happened in a window of 2 days, they mentioned they were in a bit of a rush and that I was added late in the process after being referred. Did anything like that ever happened to you? Such a quick process at those stages? I’m now really anxious waiting for the decision, any thoughts on my chances?
Thank you
Juan, I cannot give you any input on your chances without being able to look at the data, but the good news is that clearly they liked you and your background enough to push the process, good luck!
@@jeffhsipepi Thank you Jeff!
Do you think is uncommon that I was added such at a late stage in the process or it can be good news? Maybe candidate pool wasn't that strong? or someone rejected an offer? It's been a week since my final interview and haven't heard anything since
