Hey jeff, I finally got matched with Google Cloud Team for front end engineering role. I can't thank you enough for your highly informative videos ! Thank you so much 🥺
Hi Jeff, wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks for putting such insightful videos on your channel. I had been watching all your videos to prepare for my interview with Google. I am happy to share I got offered an Agency Strategist Role at Google yesterday. I can’t thank you enough. Your videos have been instrumental in my success. This was the 4th time I was interviewing with Google and your videos made me analyse and correct all the past mistakes I had made. I haven’t seen any other page/channel that has given better advice than that you have. Kudos to you!
Thank you very much for creating this video. I have my first team match call tomorrow. I'm so excited, and feel better prepared after watching this. You rock.
Hello Jeff, thanks for posting a wonderful and insightful video! Earlier, I was not clear on all aspects of the Google team matching process but now I feel much better. Thanks!
@ummu28903, the apprenticeship process is much like any other role at Google, it will be a combination of your background coupled with your interview performance. These roles typically (not always) will include the 3 most common Google interviews, RRK, GCA, and G&L. I have heard that these interviews will lean a little more into behavioral than hypothetical questions, but be ready for both. Good luck!
I am getting my team match process next week, and found out this video. Thanks for this kind information, and I hope I can find my place in Google! BE POSITIVE, AS YOU SAID :)
Thanks for the insights, Jeff. Could you please share some tips on how to build a strong relationship with a recruiter to get more opportunities for team matching?
@samruddhipatil7420, ask them how often you can check in and what is their preferred method (email, text, phone), getting their preferences can help with their responsiveness. Keep your eye on open job postings, but do not send them more than one at a time and not more than 1 a week. Overwhelming them with too many jobs will hurt you, not help you. When you share a job with them, include the specific link, 3-5 bullets for why you are a fit, your best contact info (yes, so they can forward it on if needed), your availability, and an updated resume that aligns with the role. Good luck!
@@jeffhsipepi Thanks for that advice! the job I had applied for was a generic one, Software Engineer II, [Org Name]. All the open job postings are generic. Are there any tips on how to find which team in the Org are hiring? I have tried finding posts on LinkedIn, but no luck as of now.
Hey Jeff, I was thinking to ask manager about remote work scope in the team matching call. You said in the call 'don't ask for anything'. So, is this not advised? Thanks!
Tech Beauty, if you know the role is unlikely to be remote, my advice is typically, get them to like you and want to hire you, then bring it up. Otherwise, you may close the door before they get a chance to like you. Again, just my two cents!
Hi Jeff, Thanks for the tips it’s been very helpful! I just got to the team match phase and my recruiter asked me to send him my transcript(not sure if that implies HC). Since my role is new grad SWE, I’m a bit concerned about how to prepare since my role is so generic. How should I move forward with preparing for team match calls? I’m especially nervous about technical questions😬
@felicialo8633, I want you to really double down on all the tips in this video. Also, it is just extremely important to remember that anything can be asked in these team match calls, so I do want you to be prepared to answer technical questions and the best way to prep for that is practice! Good luck!
I am a TVC on the last 2 months of my contract as a DT. I have my team match video call with 3 OM's on Monday for a DT2 position. My recruiter said I had all good indicators on my interviews. I am not as nervous as I was for the interviews, but I can't get rid of the butterflies in my stomach.
@justaguyinashed, first of all, you got this! Butterflies and little bit of stress is beneficial, it means you care and you know it is important. Take your time, you know what you are talking about, you have been there performing the job. And lastly, remember to breathe, take deep breaths, it does amazing things for your body and mind. Good luck!!
I am interviewing for a UX role and was matched with a team 3 days after my first portfolio review. I am now scheduled for a final onsite that includes the interested team Hiring Manager...is this typical?
Christine, yes, this is one of three approaches to team matching and my favorite. It removes the stress of trying to find a team at the end of the process, good luck!
Santiago, I strongly encourage everyone to watch me on 2X. I am low and slow for a reason, this is intentional. I personally watch and listen to all learning on 2X and I rarely find content I cannot listen to at this speed. Thanks for the feedback, but you won't find me speaking faster in future videos 😎
I have a team matching coming up next week for L3 position for Google Bard, My recruiter sent me the invite, it is whole AI+ML+DeepLearning+LLM+ReinforcementLearning, etc. I am currently around 2 YOE with Backend Developement. But I have 0 knowledge and experience in AI/ML domain. Will this thing affect my team matching, feeling confused.
@kaustubhdwivedi1729, this may be a role where they train you on these items. Show enthusiasm and excitement for the subject area and do some research on the space beyond what you already know. Good luck!
Hi Jeff, thank you so much for all the material and always very insightful videos. I watched all your videos on the channel several times over and I'm happy to say that your videos have helped me gotten passed all the rounds now to team matching, I have my "fit.." call with a hiring manager this coming Monday. I was not clear in my case if I passed the HC or not because the role I was interviewing for I landed as a contingent candidate which didn't workout. Now it looks like I'm going to be put into a team matching scenario, does that mean I passed the HC? Thanks!
Toan, sorry for the delay as I am sure this conversation already happened. HC typically happens after the team matching stage, but not always. Make sure if anything is unclear to ask your Recruiter and keep us posted on your status!
Hi Jeff, Thanks for the video. Can you please tell me whether Google is doing team matching before onsite interviews these days for SWE roles? I had my initial screening 2 weeks ago and upon contacting my recruiter she sent me a generic email stating "I am sharing you resume with recruiter supporting this role.." (I got this email before when applied for a job with referral at Google). I am not sure what stage I am in now as the portal says "interview scheduled". If you have any idea if I am in the team matching phase please let me know. Thank you again.
@jitbanerjee6875, they are definitely trying to team match SWEs before the full slate of interviews if possible. I recommend continuing to check in with your Recruiter once a week with a gracious and kind email to get updates on the status. Good luck!
@@jeffhsipepi Yup. Is there any chance of being considered for other roles since I passed the interview? Recruiter said she will keep an eye on new openings that matches my skills and asked if I am willing to relocate. Btw thank you so much for your response. I really appreciate it.
@@jitbanerjee6875 Yes, you want to ask your Recruiter what is their preferred cadence. Can you check in once a week, bi-weekly, monthly, try to gage how often to check in. Then, when you come across a role online that you think is a fit, send her an email with the job link, 3-5 bullets for why you are a fit for the role, provide your availability to chat, and an updated resume. Only send one job at a time. Good luck!
Hi Jeff- I interviewed for a PM role and got through HC without a team match- the recruiter did mention the feedback was very strong from the loop... a bit anxious about the prospect of not finding a team now... how often do you see that scenario play out? This is for L6 PM BTW. thanks!
Paras Rawal, I see this playing out about a fifth of the time give or take, so there is still a strong likelihood of you finding a team, be patient, and make sure to stay in constant contact for your Recruiter. Good luck!!
@@jeffhsipepi got it, super helpful both the feedback and all your content! Do you have any tips on increasing your chances of getting a team match? I am coming from B2B product and the PM loop I want through was not for cloud (which was my preference).
Hi Jeff, thanks for all the great videos- Ihave a question. I have been team match for almost 2.5 month , my recruiter has setup only 1 team fit call and that did not end in HM selecting me , what should be my next steps? Will there be more team calls or they will close my application?
apkkpa, now is really the time to have an honest chat with your Recruiter about what is going on, and sometimes, they will close out your application if they do not find a match, good luck!
Jeff H Sipe thank you- I have tried calling recruiter and emailing to find some time to connect - but no luck so far , only thing I heard that HM is not interested. Would reaching out to diff leaders on LinkedIn help to ask if they have an open role ?
@@apkkpa you can take this approach, but the likelihood of success is very low. You can also share open roles you find online with your Recruiter, but, if you do, do all the work. Provide the link, bullets for why you are a fit, your updated availability, etc. And if you take this approach, less is more!
Hi Jeff, just a quick question here! Do you know how likely it is to get an offer if I performed ok on my interviews and recruiter asked me to have team match call before going to the HC? I'm in the second scenario you mentioned. Thanks for all the content! Will let you know how this goes
@ernestocasco1425, the good news is that you performed well in your interviews. Just ok candidates do not move to the team match phase. Unfortunately, I can't give percentages because every case is unique. Also this second scenario is the most common. Keep us posted and good luck!
Jeff. First thanks for your content. I had an interview with hiring manager. She mentioned another interview with Engg manager. Any different prep for this interview? There are 3 candidates left at this stage.
DCCC, I would need to know more information about what exact stage of the process you are in, but if you are in the TM stage and they want you to speak with someone else, this is a good sign!
@@jeffhsipepi yea in team match stage post virtual on-site loop ( 5 interviews). How would one shine in 30 min with 3 likely equally good candidates left.
@@dccc2922 I give the same three pieces of advice to everyone, be super enthusiastic, have a great answer to tell me about yourself, and make sure to ask great questions, including asking about them, good luck!
Hello, Jeff! Thank you so much for your youtube project 🙌🏻 I have a question from the other side - how to hold Team Match meetings, how to organize the process so every team has enough time to speak and everybody feels comfortable. How do you handle the situation when teems don’t know each other before Team Match for interviewing, for example, QA professional. Do you have a regular plan or you meat before to say hello to each other before they meet the candidate? I would be very thankful if you can share some tips or best practices (like plan, algorithm of this process) because we are in seeking a solution to this issue. Or may be you can recommend what to reed. Thank you for your time, sending hugs from Russia 🤗
Vladislava Barabanova Team Match meetings would be ideal if they could be conducted in person, but at a minimum should be conducted via video. Creating a structure by creating time for the Hiring Manager to tell more about their position, ask questions, and give the candidate time to ask questions would be ideal. It is okay if teams do not know each other because the main function of the team match stage is identifying the right candidate. The team match stage can happen at any point in the process, ideally whenever it makes the most sense for the company /role. I hope this feedback helps!
Hey Jeff! Just got matched with a great team out in LA and had a great meeting with the managers at that department. They seemed excited to bring me onboard and asked when I wanted to start. The only problem is that I haven’t heard back from my recruiter after they set up the meeting with the department managers. No offer letter sent and no follow up from my recruiter. Any advice? I’m not sure if I got the job yet.
@@jeffhsipepi another recruiter emailed me today asking about the interview with the hiring manager and hopes I’m “excited to join the team”. Mentioned to reply to my original recruiter to ask questions about the next steps to make it an easy transition to google. Should I keep my hopes high in securing this position?
Hi, I had a team match call last week. How much time could it take for an official reply on the process? To clarify: how much time after the team match can be considered a bad sign?
Adriana, sometimes it can take awhile if the team is talking to multiple candidates. Remember to check in with your Recruiter if any more than five business days has passed. Good luck!!
Hi Jeff! I just wrapped up my final interview with Google for Recruiter Position. I have over 6 years experience in the business as a recruiter. What level and comp should I go in at? I live in Atlanta GA. My recruiter reached out asking me to send over a ton of information so she can present me to some teams
Erica, you will likely be hired as an L4, but maybe an L5! Just remember, part of the info they may ask for is compensation info, leave that section blank, good luck!!
Hi Jeff, this is extremely useful as all your other videos helped me a lot preparing for onsite. I am now in the process of team match, however this is not mentioned in the video. In my situation, the HC landed on a "hold" decision on my application because they have identified some consistent issues with my coding part which is mainly the slowness, so they will need a statement of support from HM, have you encountered such a situation before? does it mean if HM gives a thumb-up, it will be likely an offer?
zhang zhongyuan, in really depends, even with a statement of support from an HM, you may need to do another coding round or two. Keep us posted on your status and good luck!
My son has completed three successful interviews for a Software Engineer position at Google via online mode in October 2023. The status on the dashboard has progressed from "Feedback Pending" to "Review Pending," then to "Feedback Submit," and finally to "Last Update Offer Approved." He contacted to the recruiter, she said that you are in 'Time Matching Phase' wait for some time, your chances for confirmation is 60-40%. However, despite this progress, he has not received any communication or confirmation from Google yet. He's feeling uncertain about his status. Kindly suggest in this regard. Warm Regards

Hi Jeff, if I have years of experience as a software development engineer in test, and get put into a generic funnel; can I be team matched into a software engineering role at Google?
@@jeffhsipepi thanks! I'm going to watch all of your interviewing videos, practice, and then I plan on setting up an interview session with you through your website
Hi Jeff! Thank you so much for your videos, they almost certainly pushed me to a level that got me a strong hire in my googliness round :). I've recently cleared HC and am heading into team match for SWE, if you had to give a generic % chance of matching with a team in the current environment, what would you estimate?
@Chewibub, all I can say is GOOD LUCK!!! Team match percentages are impossible to predict and I don't want to set false expectations one way or another. Here is what I can tell you, you have done the hardest part of clearing the interviews and HC. Good luck, come back and let us know when you get the job. And, don't forget to negotiate your comp!
Hi Jeff! I just found out from my recruiter that passed HC! But, she said there is a current freeze on moving to the matching phase. Do you have idea when this process will open up and when I can expect to get an offer?
Hi Jeff - love your content, congrats on almost 1M views! Your video couldn't have come at a better time. I've interviewed for a specialized Program Manager role with Google and have received positive feedback (phone interview). Right now the recruiter is sharing my resume with teams to find a direction forward. From how you described it this sounds very similar to the match process. Curious to get your view on this. Additional context: a Google employee referral is logged into the recruiting system. I was requested to apply for the role by a current PM in the same specialization. I've also interviewed in the past with Google for the same role. Would they factor the past feedback into my current application case while accounting for further growth / career development? Thank you!
Thomas, thank you for the positive note, 1 million views is getting very close!! This sounds like you are in the more rare, but not uncommon early team match phase. Past feedback should not be too important at this point, they will be more focused on creating a good path forward with the right team. When you get to the HC stage, they will look at previous interview feedback. Good luck!
Hey Jeff, how do you know if it’s a team match call? My recruiter expressed I’m a finalist and my candidacy will be reviewed this week (assuming that’s HC) but he then offered me to connect with a manager just to talk about expectations/answer and questions. Is this a team match call?
Joshua, it sounds like you are going to HC and you had a hiring manager all along? And this is an opportunity to chat with them. I would go back and ask your Recruiter. Good luck!!
Hello Jeff, Appreciate all your videos, it help a lot. I just finished my 4 round interviews and hiring manager would like me to chat with local colleague in his team. Recurtier mentioned it is not formal as before interview, it is a 30 mins talk. Is this so call team match? Again, thank you for all your videos.
Chien Chih Peng, this is informal, but I want you to treat it with the same attention as any interview! Be prepared with a lot of questions. Since a hiring manager was a part of the process, you are interviewing for a specific team, therefore there will be no team match. If this informal chat goes well, they should move directly to HC from here, good luck!
Hello Jeff, I followed your advise and from my view the casul talk went well, we had a great talk. However, there is no further update from recruiter in pass two weeks. I dropped her two mails but no reply, either proceed to next step or rejection. Could you share your experience here what may happen now? Thank you.
Hi Jeff! this is great content. I passed my onsite today but recruiter wants to get statement of support first before HC review. Does it generally take long to get that statement?
@@jeffhsipepi hi Jeff! Thanks for the videos! My recruiter seems to be pretty confident I’ll pass the HC, and it’s just a matter of finding a team. Any thoughts on this? Should I feel pretty comfortable hearing this? Or is there still a high chance I will not get it via the HC?
Hi Jeff, thanks again for all the good contents and help from your channel videos and live Q&A. I am back to share the update. After two weeks from my onsite interview for a TPM role, google recruiter shared the feedback as “team was really impressed with my skills, but they will not move forward in the process for TPM. Recruiter explored other potential matches, but did not find any at this time. Will be in touch if we see another opening that might be a good match”. I never received any team matching call. Is this a rejection? Or am I still pending for any team matching? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Valerie, unfortunately, this is a rejection. Don't wait to hear back, be proactive and if you see an opportunity you like follow up with that same Recruiter in the future. Give it at least 6 months.
Hi Jeff, your videos are very insightful. Thanks! Should Team Match call be expected for every position? And, if so, would it be after successful completion of all rounds of interviews?
Taraka, the team match stage is only for more generic job openings, such as Software Engineer or Program Manager. Many roles are hiring with a specific manager and team in mind, and these scenarios, no team match stage happens. The most common time that a team match happens is after the interviews and before Hiring Committee, but it could happen before the interviews, and after HC approval as well.

Jay, I never recruited for these positions, so I cannot speak specifically to the process. I am sure you have already utilized this site, but I will re-share it for others - buildyourfuture.withgoogle.com/programs/step/
Hoàng, great question! Typically, Recruiters will keep you in this stage as long a possible, sometimes up to 2-3 months as long as they can continue to find interested teams. At some point though, they will stop looking and ask you to check back in, typically in three to six months.
Hi @Jeff, your videos have been very helpful in my Google interview process for a PgM role. Completed the on-site interview and currently in tram matching stage. I found a role that I feel matches my profile and was wondering if it will hurt my chances to apply for such role or if it will increase my chances of getting matched with the team? Thanks a lot Jeff!
Hi, Jeff, thanks for the video. I'm in team match stage, and I have tried to reach out to my connections in Google for referrals for the positions I believe are good fit, and it seems not working well. What is actually happening from my recruiter's side? Any internal tools my recruiter is using or just by sending out emails to the hiring managers which could be a good fit? I'm just not sure how effective the team match effort from my recruiter is. Or should I start to prepare for interviews with other companies? Thanks!
Dymaro, it sounds like you are taking the right steps, and yes, your Recruiter is dong reach outs for you behind the scenes. The team match stage is far from perfect and since you are interview mode, I recommend interviewing with other companies as well, good luck!
Hi Jeff, Thanks for making this video! I'm excited that I got approved by HC and moving to team match. However, I'm worried that there may no teams for me to match with, and then I have to go through the entire Google pipeline again. My questions for you are: 1. How frequently will the hiring manager say 'yes' to an interview candidate? I'll be an L3 if that says something about my odds. Also, I didn't prefer one of the big offices (like Mountain View, Seattle, NYC) 2. My recruiter sent a packet with team match instructions, and in the packet, it says if I don't have a match within a month, they're not going to search for me anymore. Is that a rule recruiters follow strictly, or can I be in team match longer? You've said people can be in team match for months, but I'm wondering why the packet said that
ygoyang, there is no specific metric for how often hiring managers say yes, but if you are targeting smaller offices that is limiting your opportunities. Obviously, if there is anyway you can open your search, I would consider it. I have not seen this within one month time period, that seems very short, especially given how slow Google moves. Good luck!
Hi Jeff, I want to thank you for these inspiring and amazing videos! I had an interview with a Hiring Manager during my on-sites two weeks ago, but the manager didn't think I am a good match for their team. So my sourcer came back to me and recommend other positions to me, I will have an interview with another hiring manager few days later. I tried to ask the recruiters about my interview performance, however they didn'g give me any specific feedback like what kind of skill or qualification I need to improve, they only said "the interview is overall positive, the hiring manager thinks you might fit with other team and decides to keep looking for other candidates" I am not sure whether I am not good enough, or just the manager didn't like me. I would like to ask, Jeff, based on your experience, How did the sourcer decide/evaluate whether they should keep trying to arrange other team match for the candidate, or just give up the candidate? Thanks in advance!
Hi Jeff! I've been watching interviewing for a PgM role for the past few months now and I've been watching a lot of your interview videos to help me prep throughout the process so I definitely wanted to say thanks! They've definitely been the most informative and well structured videos I've been able to find. I was hoping you could give me your thoughts on my chances of passing HC review. I'm done with on-sites and currently in team matching, but the recruiter did tell me that my on-site feedback was positive and the I got 3 hires and 1 lean hire. The 1 lean hire he said he wasn't worried about as there wasn't anything specifically pointed out as an area of improvement or weakness. Thats all he said he could tell me. I know HC review can be a crap shoot depends who's on it but in your experience as a former GGL recruiter do you think I got a pretty decent shot at passing HC?
DoDo, with a good statement of support from the hiring manager once you find the right team, it sounds like the likelihood of passing HC is high. One Lean Hire will definitely not disqualify you. It is ultimately up to HC, bu you are in a good place! Good luck!!
Hello Jeff, wanted to say a big thank you for posting this insightful video. A quick query, after my interviews my recruiter informed me the team match process is being initiated before hiring committee. I have been in team match for past 2 months without any further progress. Do you think 2 months is too long without even a single team match ? Do candidates get rejected without any team expressing interest ? Hope to hear from you
Ajay, two months with no matches is long, but not totally uncommon. And yes, sometimes candidate's profiles will be closed out if too long goes by with no team match. Stay patient and keep in constant contact with your Recruiter, good luck!
Hi Jeff, thanks for posting this. I'm currently in the team matching stage and yet to take calls. Can you share the probability of no match and then the probability of HC reject? What is the likelihood of getting the final offer after passing onsite interviews?
Eternal Learner, unfortunately, no one can give you an accurate probability without looking at the feedback. But there is definitely a probability of not finding a team and of not passing HC, keep us posted!
Hi Jeff, Thanks a lot for the video. Maybe you can clarify my situation. I had applied for L6 for Productivity and had passed the phone tech screen. After that, even before scheduling the virtual on sites, the recruiter said we will be doing the team match before the Hiring Committee. Any idea what would cause this course of action? I completed the virtual on site a few days ago and am waiting for recruiter feedback.
Sridhar, sometimes the first interview is enough to determine that you are a potential match for a certain team or team, and they take this step before the onsite stage. While it is the least common, it still happens and I see it as better than the other scenarios because it helps you focus on one position during the interviews. Keep us posted on the results! Thanks.
@@jeffhsipepi Looks like this is just how this department / recruiter works. My interview results are good and we are now going through the Team match before submitting to the Hiring committee. Just watched your video again to refresh on how to approach it :-)
You are best, i have one question, recently i interviewed for google, but after all interviews the recruiter called me to inform that they are not moving ahead for this location but may consider for different locations based on hiring manager response. She called me afte 3 weeks to inform that one of my initial interviewer has shoen interest for my profile and want me to again interview with him as a team match 30 minutes call, and based on his feedback the next stage would be offer stage. So does that mean that i am hiring commitee approved ? Thanks @jeff
@gokudbz3837, probably not, but you will want to confirm with your Recruiter. The most likely scenario is you are in the team match phase, and with a successful match, they will move you onto HC. In most cases (not all) the team match occurs before HC so that the Hiring Manager can do a write up (statement of support) for why you are a fit for the role, team, and company. This usually helps candidates when they get to the HC stage. Good luck!!
Thanks, Jeff, for your prompt response, I would confirm with recruiter. I am grateful for your videos and explanation around it. Keep up the good work.

This is super helpful. Thanks!
Aaron, thanks!
Hey Jeff,
I was thinking to ask manager about remote work scope in the team matching call.
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the tips it’s been very helpful! I just got to the team match phase and my recruiter asked me to send him my transcript(not sure if that implies HC). I’m especially nervous about technical questions😬
@felicialo8633, I want you to really double down on all the tips in this video. Also, it is just extremely important to remember that anything can be asked in these team match calls, so I do want you to be prepared to answer technical questions and the best way to prep for that is practice! Hello, Jeff! Thank you so much for your youtube project 🙌🏻
I have a question from the other side - how to hold Team Match meetings, how to organize the process so every team has enough time to speak and everybody feels comfortable.
Vladislava Barabanova
Team Match meetings would be ideal if they could be conducted in person, but at a minimum should be conducted via video.

Thank you!

Chien Chih Peng, this is informal, but I want you to treat it with the same attention as any interview! Be prepared with a lot of questions.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for making this video! I'm excited that I got approved by HC and moving to team match. However, I'm worried that there may no teams for me to match with, and then I have to go through the entire Google pipeline again. My questions for you are:
1. How frequently will the hiring manager say 'yes' to an interview candidate? I'll be an L3 if that says something about my odds. Also, I didn't prefer one of the big offices (like Mountain View, Seattle, NYC)
Good luck!
Hi ygoyang, I am in the same boat. My recruiter also said I only have 4 weeks to do team match. I would frustrated if I do not match with any team.
@@geliu3751 thank you for sharing, yes, this is really a tough situation, four weeks is a short period of time!
I tried to ask the recruiters about my interview performance, however they didn'g give me any specific feedback like what kind of skill or qualification I need to improve, they only said "the interview is overall positive, the hiring manager thinks you might fit with other team and decides to keep looking for other candidates"
I am not sure whether I am not good enough, or just the manager didn't like me.
I would like to ask, Jeff, based on your experience, How did the sourcer decide/evaluate whether they should keep trying to arrange other team match for the candidate, or just give up the candidate?
Thanks in advance!
Megan, if they are giving you another chance it means they like you, keep trying and taking these interviews, good luck!

Sridhar, sometimes the first interview is enough to determine that you are a potential match for a certain team or team, and they take this step before the onsite stage. Good luck!!
