It does! While the question sounds straightforward, it's too easy to fall into the trap of giving a generic, impersonal question that doesn't tell the interviewer anything about who we are and why this is a purposeful, long-term match!
Jeff your videos have been super helpful. I just landed a job at Google two weeks ago. I'd like to thank you for sharing this type of information. I highly recommend your videos to anyone who is looking for a job at Google but also at other companies too.
What an incredible person you are. You make us believe that Experienced people can guide you through anything as they have been at the same place once. Thanks for all your helpful videos. It really helped me crack the interviews. Much love❤️
Jeff, in addition to your passion in helping others and the helpful tips, which are much appreciated, I love your Chinese elements in the background. It looks like a beautiful piece of Ming-Dynasty style cabinet behind you :) Keep doing what you do!
Charles, I love it! I was living in an Airbnb at the time after moving back from Mexico and the decor was cool, but I did not know what the symbol meant until now, thanks for sharing!
Hi Jeff! I've been binge-watching all your content. You've really helped me throughout my interview process. All your videos are so insightful and clear. Just wanted to say thank you! Sending love from Indonesia. Keep making the vids!
Michelle, thank you so much for sending the love, it is greatly appreciated! I love Indonesia, I got to visit a few years ago, absolutely one of the most beautiful places in the world!
My interview experience: The recruiter was straight on to business and no fluff. Sent me over to the hiring manager. The hiring manager was late a few minutes, joined the video, and then asked for a few more minutes to finish up something. Okay, no problem. Then we go off with a laundry list of questions. I try to make it a friendly conversation but I am swiftly cut off with yet another question. The hiring manager is constantly looking all over the screen and obviously doing some work while I speak. The interview ends with me asking a few questions and finishes off right on time. Previously, I have looked him up and he has less education/experience/GCP knowledge than me. Not sure if that mattered or what was going on but it feels like I had pretty much zero chance of succeeding in that interview. Thought Google would do better.
Zekoomrkva, I hearted this comment because I sincerely appreciate you sharing this experience with the community. Every company will have those interviewers that are having a bad day and or are just not good at interviewing, it sounds like this is the case. And unfortunately, this happens all the time, including at Google. What can you do, provide feedback to your Recruiter. Pay it forward, you may not get the job, but maybe the Recruiter will provide feedback, and maybe a future candidate will have a better experience. I am really sorry to hear this happened, but keep trying, obviously they like your background. Thank you for sharing.
@@jeffhsipepi Jeff, I am thinking that providing feedback to the recruiter is a bit risky for many reasons. It's just a terrible luck to land an opportunity that comes once in a decade and then run into the wall. That's life what can you do :)
@@zekoomrkva So you have to do what is best for you, and I get that, but it is really about the tone. If you say I wanted to provide some feedback on my interview experience and highlight what happened it would be helpful. What your interviewer did is not acceptable at any company, they did not respect you or your time. Again, I want you to focus on you, but it upsets me that people get in front of their dream opportunity and stuff like this happens.
Hi Jeff, and how about if Google reached for me instead and I didn't reach them in the first place?. How to answer "Why Google" question if I didn't apply with them?
Maximus, even if you get contacted by them, you should still have an answer of why you would be interested in working there. And what I recommend if you are not interested is not to interview at that specific company because typically this will show up throughout the interview process.
for questions such as 'tell me about yourself' or 'why google' is it okay to have the same answer for all interviews or does it need to be different for each?
I have a tricky question that's bothering me for a while now. How will an interviewer take it when I say I did prepare for this question? As we all know, including the interviewer people prepare for this answer. So what is the best way to let the interviewer know that I have prepared for this answer and made some points regarding this question?
Arun, I would simply state, I thought about this question before the interview and ..., super casual if you decide to use this phrase or a like phrase.
Susan, yes! We often provide way too much detail on this answer, it is intended to be a warmup or softball question, not a question we need to go in depth.
Hey Jeff, I hear you mostly get into Google when someone from Google reaches out to you. How to build that profile so that I get reached out to, by a recruiter? Dreaming the Google dream for over 6 years. Any tips? Binge watching your videos to prepare for that day! Thank you for putting these gold mine of content for us🎉
@legallyweird3602, thank you so much for the positive feedback! I really suggest that you optimize your LinkedIn profile, watch the videos I have done about it and look at my profile to see how I have optimized. This is how I got my job at Google, I had a good LinkedIn profile and someone found me! Good luck, you got this!

What should I expect on a first phone call if a Google recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn? No specific job description, no particular product, just a first chat. Any ideas and how to approach it?
Hi Jeff, Thank you for the great content! Is the interview date matter at Google? Should I aim to have it sooner in case the role is filled up? I am going to have my RRK interview at Google for an AS role 2 weeks from now. I am a bit concerned if the role will be filled up before I go through all interview stages? Thank you.
Amy, great question! Your Recruiter should really be letting you know if there is any urgency/reason to move up your interview date. But in most cases, a couple of weeks out is fine. Good luck!
Jessie, yup, many people feel this way, why should I have to practice such a straightforward question? Because this is typically, one of the first questions you will be asked in an interview. And an answer that is not structured and has not been practiced will likely fall flat. And you are still building first impressions with your interviewer. So, do not overlook this question, it is important. And like any interview question, it requires practice to get it right.
Lmp Sewas Academy, you would need to ask your Recruiter, I would imagine that you could/should be able to interview in Hindi, but it could also be role specific. I know this is not a super helpful answer!
Hi! Thanks a lot for your videos, I am preparing for my interview that is going to be next week and these are very helpful! I got a tip from the recruiter saying that we need to stand out and try to come up with different answers than the other candidates so the interview remembers us afterwards. Thus, to what extent would you recommend for us to be creative with these questions? Thanks!

I had a interview with Google (my 2nd interview) last week and my interviewer wasn't able to give me any info on when to expect a reply.
