Hell of a project, but satisfying at the end, specially when you think that you would be the first one removing the spark plugs after 20 years from the engine. I have mentioned the Brand, Part number, Gap setting, torque setting in between and I hope this video encourage you to DIY this big project and save yourself literally $1000...
Great video! I should have done the 16 spark-plugs & valve-covers/breather-covers/hoses altogether as you recommended on my CLK430 but I did in 2 separated jobs; still very satisfying to work on this great V8 engine. The MB spark-plug tool is worth it, made the job much easier. I also broke 3 tabs on the connectors even though I was super careful; heat-cycles & engine age are just too much... 😂
Nice job ... Mercedes sell an offset 17mm open end spanner which makes removing the boots easy and also helps to push them back onto the new plugs. Bosch and NGK are the best spk plugs for these engines. Rusty threads indicates water has run into the wells , usually when someone has tried to clean the engine.
I bought my s430 from my mother, who’d been taking the car in to a “certified Mercedes mechanic”… and for over 5 years he never serviced any basic maintenance on the car…. She SWORE by his expertise…. But when I took over the car, the engine was filthy with oil leaks and all original parts on it at 150,000+ miles. Mechanics don’t care about their customers cars !!! DIY is the way to go !!!

Great tips as usual, Leonardo, Thank you :)
Helped me change my plugs, thank you.
Excellent, glad it helped ;)
Thanks! My c280 looks the same but 2 less cylinders. May have to do this
Yes, good luck, satisfying project 👍
Very helpful
👍
Doing this and time spent there, would you upgrade to Iridium plugs now, since it's newer technology since the car was built? Good Idea?
The higher quality, the better. Iridium is a good idea.
Did you use your hands to click in the plug boots at the end or did I miss a special tool?
No special tool.

Thank you ;)
THANK you very good. 😊
You are welcome 😊
You took the valve cover off. Did you do a video on valve cover gaskets?

You should use the right tools, makes doing this much easier.
Agreed.

Yes, most mechanics only work enough to get the job done. DIY can be done perfectly.
super 👍
You are welcome 😊
Can spark plugs make smoke in startup in this engine ??
No. Check 1. Injectors 2. Valve seals 3. Diagnose the car using a scanner
Or you got clogged cats bro
How to replace the gasket rings that go inside the spark plugs?
Sparkplug washers are not replaced. You need to replace Sparkplugs.
The coil pack connectors are not that serious if you break the tabs… DO NOT BE SCARED!!!
I think they are fixable with a cable tie trick.
@@BenzAddiction I just put mine back on with some Dielectric Grease and they are snug enough to hold. Cable tie would be my last resort if need be.
If you just buy the correct spark plug tool, it’s not a problem.. they are less than $20
Good advice, will buy one soon.
