Kicker is a hell of a product, the old ones were anyway. I'm just to the point I don't want amps and boxes and crap all over the place. I think I'll try the Kicker 6x9 in my doors and hope I'm satisfied. Back in the mid 90's low rider trucks were the thing and we had a Mazda extended cab with 3 JL Audio 15" in the back, I miss those days but my ears sure don't.
Yeah! Testing a speaker without a baffle or enclosure is pointless, at least bass wise. The sound waves from the front of the speaker is equaled out by the back... The same goes for mixing polarity!

yeah but if you use the kicker for four speakers for more sound quality cause they have more, you can just get a sub in the back of your car for bass, and clarity in front...for me this is better cause im a metalhead too.
yes that is true but the deck acts as the front of a box not letting sound waves go back to the speaker and get out of phase so you get better bass and if that deck goes to the boot then guess fucking what the boot acts as a box wow its crazy i know.

My current speakers have very harsh "S" sounds, snares, and sometimes harsh "T's" and "F's" in the vocals. I believe this is called sibilance. Are one of these more likely to fix this problem than the other?
You need an equalizer bro. Every stereo needs one. There's nothing wrong with your speakers. I will say though Kickers have less high mid in general so they will sound a little softer on the S and F's, but I prefer the sound of the Alpine with a little bit of equalizing. Or better, a DSP ;)
I’ve had both set ups, alpine can take a prison pounding, kicker can too but the alpines are more forgiving to a beginner that has his amp setting all screwed up. I have in a single cab truck 4 of the kicker 6.5s and two of the 6x9s he’s showing in boxes and there amazing. Ps the kickers are are cracking because your over powering the shit out of it. Mine don’t move that much with 90watts rms on them
I was gonna say the same thing about the high pass filter. I've set mine to 80hz -12 octave. They can't really handle full volume with an amp unless it's set a lil higher on the hpf.

Does the JBL GTO 939 6x9 hit as hard or even harder than these alpine 6x9’s ? Or do the JBL crack or sound bad when played with deep bass like these kicker speakers are doing?
These speakers are actually designed to not be in a box aka free air. Most all internal car speakers outside of subwoofers are. Even some subwoofers are rated for infinite baffle.. Aka no box. That's a real thing guys read up.
I dont like that noise the kicker makes. I listen to a lot of bass songs and my old 6x9s are cracking. So I dont want any more noise. Not sure if all models of kicker do this though.
those alpines sound better tbh, a lot more punchy and the tweeters are balanced better, the kickers sound artificial, eq cant fix the kickers, but Eq can make the tweeters sound better on the alpines becaus ethey are very natural
the kickers he used was the cheapest and lowest wattage kicker made and there was something wrong with it. try the CS kicker and then u will have a true comparison. also try different Alpine speakers to see which one u like the best. if u have a lot more money try Focal brand also but they are much more expensive. also try out the Infinity and Polk brands because they are very nice sounding brands and can handle an amp like the Alpine and the CS kickers can.
That kicker DS has got a foam surround, try the rubber one, I think CS or KS model? Just build two smaller test boxes out of plywood, anything would be better than exposed testing, especially for mid bass testing.

I just got the "DSC69304" for VW Polo as an after market system for my niece, running a Kappa K4 Bluetooth amp (no head unit). I'm gonna shallow box these on the parcel shelf as I don't want to cut a hole and just screw them in and allow the bottom to free air (yes I know the boot will not be free air but it's a big enough space it might as well be). I'm hoping they will give a little bit of window vibration and I don't know what i'm using in her doors yet but nothing too drastic as it's for mid's and highs only and the Kappa has front rear bias. First build I've ever done and I don't drive my self. Looking forward to it.

The alpines are way better on a amp. You can cranck these alpines up and them tweeters come alive. The kickers dont sound as good cranked up. When i say cranked up i mean cranked up... Not half power fully ingaged before clipping... Now that being said if you dont crank your music up like i said and you want quality sound The kickers sound better at lower volumes...

However, my speakers seem to have to much high end like a bit to harsh so I want cleaner sounding speakers. Not to worried about bass since I have a subwoofer but still want good speakers

try the CS model kickers and not the DS the DS are the cheapest kickers u can buy and have less wattage. the CS are way better and can handle a big amp like the Alpine speakers can and the kickers will really sound better. the best thing to do is go to a stereo shop and listen to the different brands in enclosures using the same radio and they can play all the speakers with an amp and with out an amp that way u can really hear the difference for urself because u are the one who will be listening to them and that is the only thing that counts is what u like. also shop around before u buy so u can get the best deal and I would recommend getting the extended warranty because then if anything goes wrong u are covered 100% and will get a brand new set of speakers if ur's mess up.

Kicker sounds better all around even the bass... the cracking noise is the back of the cone hitting the wires below it... adjust them and problem solved.... ask how I know...I had 4 off these in a Saturn and 1 in each door... you'd think I had subs in there

6x9's are free air speakers, they mount on decks, not in enclosures like subwoofers.

The kicker is not cracking, its just that the cone is hitting the undercarriage of the two-way.

Probably because you have a high pass crossover set. Mike is just doing it for the video.

Them kickers are replaments for stock low watt applications they sound great not designed for blow away bass .

Idont understand why u testing the speaker w/out enclosure u can’t tell how it even suppose to sound like these tests don’t show anything except tweeter quality
idk they both sound good the alpine definitely has a lil better base but the kicker the kicker has awesome fucking sound I gotta say kicker wins just cause it sounds incredible
And your frequency is probably way to low for the kicker.. there not subwoofers man lol
No offense but don’t listen to dude, he is just pounding them with no specific crossovers the speakers call for nor the wattage. There both good but not a fair review.

Kicker all the way the alpine sounds very flat and not as detailed sound quality. Alpine subs are great but idk about the speakers..
You can't test Bass when they aren't mounted!!!! Other than that great test!!!!
