Yeah! Testing a speaker without a baffle or enclosure is pointless, at least bass wise. The sound waves from the front of the speaker is equaled out by the back... The same goes for mixing polarity!
6x9's are free air speakers, they mount on decks, not in enclosures like subwoofers.
Brutuszilla yea but they use your trunk as a enclosure which is why they will be more bass heavy than your door speakers

I'm 43 and have 2 old skool Kicker gold 10" speakers in a box in my shed. They have been there atleast 12 years and I am certain if I took them out and plugged them up they would be banging. Kicker is a hell of a product, the old ones were anyway. I'm just to the point I don't want amps and boxes and crap all over the place. I think I'll try the Kicker 6x9 in my doors and hope I'm satisfied. Back in the mid 90's low rider trucks were the thing and we had a Mazda extended cab with 3 JL Audio 15" in the back, I miss those days but my ears sure don't.
Kicker 6.5s in the doors for some nice highs and clear sound and alpine 6x9s for a bit of bass in the rear....

Kicker by landslide. It will outlast any other brand in the market. I’ve seen old kickers from 10 yrs ago still going strong

I have some in my doors and they were installed back in 2009 still sounds good and Ive had no issues with them they still look new.

I have the Kickers and I can assure you they are amazing! Durable and produces a clear sound for all genres just eq accordingly

The bass is decent for not having a subwoofer, solid all around speaker for the price, can handle 90 watts rms. Pretty good if you ask me!

I started with new speakers in the dash and was looking for some midbass in the doors. I figured why spend money on new speakers for an older car if I could just get a pair of used oem supreme sound system speakers, will these do some justice at that point?
ok so i dont need bass from speakes so kickers have good qualitu with out bass cuz with the subwoofer you dont feel the 6x9 bass

The kicker is not cracking, its just that the cone is hitting the undercarriage of the two-way.

Them kickers are replaments for stock low watt applications they sound great not designed for blow away bass .

yeah but if you use the kicker for four speakers for more sound quality cause they have more, you can just get a sub in the back of your car for bass, and clarity in front...for me this is better cause im a metalhead too.

yes that is true but the deck acts as the front of a box not letting sound waves go back to the speaker and get out of phase so you get better bass and if that deck goes to the boot then guess fucking what the boot acts as a box wow its crazy i know.

I’ve had both set ups, alpine can take a prison pounding, kicker can too but the alpines are more forgiving to a beginner that has his amp setting all screwed up. I have in a single cab truck 4 of the kicker 6.5s and two of the 6x9s he’s showing in boxes and there amazing.
Ps the kickers are are cracking because your over powering the shit out of it. Mine don’t move that much with 90watts rms on them
Probably because you have a high pass crossover set. Mike is just doing it for the video.
I was gonna say the same thing about the high pass filter. I've set mine to 80hz -12 octave. They can't really handle full volume with an amp unless it's set a lil higher on the hpf.
I just got the kickers 6×9 and they sound amazing with my 2 twelve inch kicker subs.

These speakers are actually designed to not be in a box aka free air. Most all internal car speakers outside of subwoofers are. Even some subwoofers are rated for infinite baffle.. Aka no box. That's a real thing guys read up.
My current speakers have very harsh "S" sounds, snares, and sometimes harsh "T's" and "F's" in the vocals. I believe this is called sibilance. Are one of these more likely to fix this problem than the other?
yes its different frequencies of sound trying to smash through the same plane. example, 3 pipes of water joining into one small outlet pipe.
You need an equalizer bro. Every stereo needs one. There's nothing wrong with your speakers. I will say though Kickers have less high mid in general so they will sound a little softer on the S and F's, but I prefer the sound of the Alpine with a little bit of equalizing. Or better, a DSP ;)

those alpines sound better tbh, a lot more punchy and the tweeters are balanced better, the kickers sound artificial, eq cant fix the kickers, but Eq can make the tweeters sound better on the alpines becaus ethey are very natural

the kickers he used was the cheapest and lowest wattage kicker made and there was something wrong with it. try the CS kicker and then u will have a true comparison. also try different Alpine speakers to see which one u like the best. if u have a lot more money try Focal brand also but they are much more expensive. also try out the Infinity and Polk brands because they are very nice sounding brands and can handle an amp like the Alpine and the CS kickers can.

The kicker sounds like its echoing and in a long hall way. But it is louder
Mike small tip, cutout a wooden plank thats atleast 4 times as wide as the speaker, cutout a hole for the 6x9s or 6.5inch speakers this will improve sound quality alot (open baffle setup) wil greatly improve sound quality on your recordings.
If you play the speakers without box or without covering the back a little with open baffle then the soundwaves from the back of the speaker wil cancel out any bass because the sound is out of phase

Try the new infinity reference 6x9s or ds 18 6x9s. I think you might like the infinites better though.

a lot of people. 6x9s can put out really good bass. there are even 6x9 subwoofers out there.
I just got the "DSC69304" for VW Polo as an after market system for my niece, running a Kappa K4 Bluetooth amp (no head unit). I'm gonna shallow box these on the parcel shelf as I don't want to cut a hole and just screw them in and allow the bottom to free air (yes I know the boot will not be free air but it's a big enough space it might as well be). I'm hoping they will give a little bit of window vibration and I don't know what i'm using in her doors yet but nothing too drastic as it's for mid's and highs only and the Kappa has front rear bias. First build I've ever done and I don't drive my self. Looking forward to it.
The alpines are way better on a amp. You can cranck these alpines up and them tweeters come alive. The kickers dont sound as good cranked up. When i say cranked up i mean cranked up... Not half power fully ingaged before clipping... Now that being said if you dont crank your music up like i said and you want quality sound The kickers sound better at lower volumes...

In case you have not understood it, when we call a speaker BRIGHT it is "insult" for this speaker. It means that its upper mids and highs are shrill/fatiguing and this speaker shout On Your Face. This is not a balanced speaker. Ask someone to explain it to you like Zero Fidelity, Cheapaudioman, Andrew Robinson,Tharbamar.Someone who knows...
Kicker sounds better all around even the bass... the cracking noise is the back of the cone hitting the wires below it... adjust them and problem solved.... ask how I know...I had 4 off these in a Saturn and 1 in each door... you'd think I had subs in there

Seems is just a personal preference review. In an enclosure the kickers would handle bass just fine
That kicker DS has got a foam surround, try the rubber one, I think CS or KS model? Just build two smaller test boxes out of plywood, anything would be better than exposed testing, especially for mid bass testing.

I dont like that noise the kicker makes. I listen to a lot of bass songs and my old 6x9s are cracking. So I dont want any more noise. Not sure if all models of kicker do this though.
Does the JBL GTO 939 6x9 hit as hard or even harder than these alpine 6x9’s ? Or do the JBL crack or sound bad when played with deep bass like these kicker speakers are doing?
Yes not much harder but a lot cleaner bass and midbass. Excellent tweeters too.

@@ElectronicsForFun nope these speakers are designed to play in what is known as free air.. A free air speaker may be tested in an open back door or on a bench and will provide a good example of what you will get out of a free air speaker
@@epoxeclipse I call bullshit, no speaker works well in a free air setup. open baffle maybe but not in free air no fucking way. if the air being moved by the driver can meet on both sides of the driver then it's canceling itself out. you can "design" all you want but you still have to follow the laws of physics.

Rashidul haque so the DS series is better than the CS series? I have a 10 inch Cerwin Vega subwoofer in my car with Cerwin Vega speakers all around. However, my speakers seem to have to much high end like a bit to harsh so I want cleaner sounding speakers. Not to worried about bass since I have a subwoofer but still want good speakers

A Ql if you guys have factory amp or aftermarket head unit 100% go with kicker Alpine with amp needs more power !
try the CS model kickers and not the DS the DS are the cheapest kickers u can buy and have less wattage. the CS are way better and can handle a big amp like the Alpine speakers can and the kickers will really sound better. the best thing to do is go to a stereo shop and listen to the different brands in enclosures using the same radio and they can play all the speakers with an amp and with out an amp that way u can really hear the difference for urself because u are the one who will be listening to them and that is the only thing that counts is what u like. also shop around before u buy so u can get the best deal and I would recommend getting the extended warranty because then if anything goes wrong u are covered 100% and will get a brand new set of speakers if ur's mess up.
I have a single cab truck, I was thinking about swapping the door 6x9 and dash tweeters but leaving the 6x9 that are behind the seat. Do u think that will be ok? Was going to get an amp and sub too.
Factory heads won't have the power for either of them tbf. They'll need an after market amp. Well... unless you're running a Bently or some shit :D
