Anything from this concert is mind blowing.
Pink Floyd’s music can be brocken into 4 parts....lyrics that are meaningful and the equal of Dylan’s best.
Music that expresses the emotions of the lyrics...... you can feel the meaning in your soul.
The vocal delivery and then David’s guitar.

I seen them in Dallas Texas in 94 and I remember when they played this song everyone around me was in awe, as for me I had already heard this song and had been listening to it for almost 10 years. The solo wasn't even that good but with thsi solo he was letting his guitar sing for him. Even now 39 years later after hearing this song for rhe first time, it still brings tears to my eyes

The entire Pulse concert, every song is like almost any other bands finale! Imagine 233,000 watts of power to generate 98 million dollars worth of equipment in nineteen ninety-four dollars!!!! I assure you you could feel every note because they put speakers behind you above you on both sides of you and on the stage and completely surround & engulf you inside sound! And with all that power they only turn it up about halfway for perfect sound and no distortion!!! And even turning it up half way you could still hear it across the English channel in France!!!

It’s a pleasure watching someone get “Floyded”! My understanding is that bassist and primary songwriter Rogers Waters based the song on an incident that actually happened to him while on tour in Philadelphia in 1977. Waters became ill before a concert, and was given a shot to help him get through that night’s show. He didn’t react well to it.
In terms of the song, the meaning is somewhat different. “Comfortably Numb” is from their album “The Wall”, a double album which tells the story of the fictional boy Pink Floyd, who wants to be a rock star. Over the course of the two discs Pink does achieve his dream. But at this point in the story, Pink has become so focused on success that he has ‘walled’ himself off from everyone who actually cared about him. He realizes he’s now surrounded by users who care nothing about his welfare.
On the album, the song is preceded by a sonic mashup of groupies asking if he’s feeling okay, the promoter knocking, telling him it’s time to go, and Pink’s mournful question “Is there anybody out there?”, meaning is there anybody left who still cares about him. Pink so hates this life that he can’t escape, that he has turned to drugs to self-medicate his emotional pain. The promoter, seeing Pink’s in no shape to perform, calls in a local doctor, and it’s this doctor’s voice we hear first, asking “Is there anybody in there?” Neither the doctor or the promoter care about Pink’s health, they just want him on stage, so they get their money. And so, not knowing what Pink took, the doctor gives him an all-purpose drug “cocktail”, with the line “Just a little pinprick”, and shoves him out on stage. Lead guitarist David Gilmour’s beautiful first solo, before Pink’s cocktail kicks in, is soaring and and spectacular, reflecting Pink’s comfortably numb state. But the second solo happens after Pink has been sobered up, and Gilmour’s guitar perfectly expresses Pink’s misery, his self-loathing, and his hopelessness. So while the song is based on Waters’ experience, it’s meaning as part of Pink’s story is much deeper.

This is a great comment, thank you for taking the time to leave this.

Pink Floyd is Legendary, one of the GOAT Rock bands,... ever,.... and one of the most successful too!
Just look into their history, you'll see a very special Rock band, (Progressive Rock).
Formed in 1964 in London, they have sold hundreds of millions of albums worldwide, and counting. Their 1973 "The Dark Side Of The Moon" album is regarded by many Rock critics, and others, as Thee greatest Rock album of all time. It has sold over 55 million copies to date.
Pink Floyd is known for their, spacey, psychedelic, emotion filled, extended compositions, with philosophical lyrics. Extraordinarily elaborate live performances, with light and laser shows coordinated with the music. Music reproduced by the massive quadrophonic sound system Pink Floyd owned att, state of the art as is/was all Pink Floyd production.
They also owned the complete stage, lights, Rigs, etc., you see at this concert, part of Pink Floyds 1994 "The Division Bell" world tour. In fact, they had 3 identical stages, lighting systems and rigging, that leapfrogged across North America, during The Division Bell tour, because of the massiveness of the tour.
They performed 112 concerts, in 68 cities, from March 1994 to October 94, with this video from the Earls Court concert, being at the end of the tour.

When you check the words the meaning will be more obvious. The verse part of the song is a story about a time Roger Waters the bassist was sick before a show and likely couldn't play. The manager really wanted the show to go on so they got a doctor to come in and shoot him full of drugs making him Comfortably Numb He then did the show zonked out of his mind. The chorus is about an illness Roger had as a child when his hands felt just like balloons.

@@Azimov-REACTS , Sure, yeah, I have something in mind. There is an all girl band called Fanny from back in the early 70's. They were the first all girl band to be singed to a major label. The keyboard player actually was with Joe Cocker in Mad Dogs and Englishmen just before she went full time with Fanny. Seeing as it is close to Halloween, this is a rather appropiate song. It is a remake from Randy Newman. Here's the link.... ruclips.net/video/4YH-MJmWVhw/видео.htmlsi=KTSCoGcuFtCOewG2

I’m on medication (permanently) to stop me from being too high or too low and this speaks volumes to me. “Comfortably Numb” to me is feeling level and not being in a state of mania or depression. I’ve heard that the lyrics are actually about a band member having a crippling anxiety of going on stage and taking something to “get them through the show”. Not sure if that’s correct or not but it rings true! Either way, this is one of the best live performances, guitar solo’s, light shows and theatrics of any band ever!

Pink Floyd is by far my all time favorite band. I have seen them 2 times and one of them was the Pulse tour the same concert in 1994 at Soldier field in Chicago. My wife got me the tickets for my birthday, she paid $75 for 2 at that time. In the parking lot someone offered me $1200 cash for the 2 tickets and I said no. The guy got upset and said to me , I’m giving you $1200 in cash that’s a lot of money, why say no… I said because tonight I get to see a God like play the guitar. It was not only an amazing concert like you see here it was exactly the same… when the concert was over it started to rain, so my wife and I decided not to drive all the way home about an hour away and to get a hotel room downtown, after dinner and a few drinks we went to our room and 9 months later my beautiful daughter was born… we named her Sydney and the rest is history… all I can say it was an amazing night and a gift from above…. Fyi the last song they played in the concert after this was Run Like Hell …. You need to check that one out live from pulse also….

Saw this in Indianapolis. By far and away THE BEST concert, EVER! This is another song from The Wall album. The first singers are playing the part of the doctor trying to get the singer (Pink) ready for his show but he is catatonic (he had a nervous breakdown) and the doctor's voice is very far away and echoing. David Gilmour is Pink. With the medication the doctor gave him, Pink has become Comfortably Numb. Watch the movie: The Wall with Bob Geldof. You'll get a better understanding.

Hey, any relation to the great science fiction writer?
Pink Floyd are known for their brilliant lyrics. That's why it's always good practice to do the studio version 1st so you're not quite so distracted by all the razzle-dazzle of their incredible live performances . In fact, it makes the live performance even more special when you finally do see it. The song is about a kind of metamorphosis, but not the kind you describe. The concept album is about a rockstar losing touch with reality, and this song marks the final stage of that break. Very deep psychological album that demands to be listened to all at once to comprehend. Though it probably won't happen on the first full listen. Anyway, good job!!

Every PF song has a kickass guitar solo, maybe try the studio cut of "Time", an engineer's playground for sure. Subbed

Interesting take, glad you enjoyed some Pink Floyd. Fancy giving, Steve Vai - Tender Surrender a go? Look up the live version, the one with most views it's well worth it.

Lay down in the dark maybe with a candle lit and listen to Pink Floyd “Dark Side Of The Moon”..start to finish, no breaks..each song creates a story thread throughout the album. If you researched the meaning of the lyrics to the song , you would have an understanding of the meaning of the song and concepts of the lyrics. I'm from Philly of course it has deep tie because RW was ill at the time before a live concert in Philly. So it's his story if his interactions w the doctor that treated him and helped him get back on stage.
