- In this quick tutorial I will actually show you a good spot to relocate your factory horn. How to access the wiring and ways to extend the factory harness to a new location with simple tools and materials. Not really sure what Yamaha was thinking when they placed the horn in its factory location under the factory light but its truly an eye sore!!! Now it looks a lot cleaner and looks like an OEM install and location.

Well done man. I'll probably work on that this weekend. Like the location for sure. That horn location has been an eyesore for me since day 1.
Thank you 🙏 I know! First time I saw it I was like what the hell? Been on my to do list as well lol
This is great man! I planned to relocate that horn right away! This is easy to follow and solves the issue! I know Yamaha had to put it there but they could have hidden it under a small cover or something! Currently binging all your MT09 videos! There are great 😊
Nice! I appreciate it. Thank you for watching the Channel 🙌
@@yamayari8351 you’re welcome mate! This is one of the few channels I’ve come across where people are doing ‘how to’s’ for the mods on their MT09, only other person I can think of is BLOCKHEAD.
@@ashleycrow8899 he lives in my area. Never met him but would be VERY COOL 😎
Thanks for the share, kept getting distracted by the beaut in the background! ;-)
So many people have commented on my obvious horn 🙄 😜😂 I was thinking of having some fun and replacing with an even more blatant horn temporarily. This looks like a great long term improvement tho! 👍🏼👏👊🏻
I love it where I relocated it. But I’ve seen some other good relocations as well.
Hey man, first of all, I really love your mt09 videos! Small advice...If I were you, I would solder the wires. Now there is a chance that they will oxidate or disconnect. That is a little advice I would give to you. But your MT09 is the greatest on youtube man! Keep up the nice work! I'm looking forward to some new vids. 👊🏻
Awesome! I appreciate you taking time to add some constructive advice. I appreciate it. Thank you 🙏. Been a busy month but I should have some new content coming up soon. Thank you for watching 🙏
Great video bro 🤙
Awesome work brother 👍🏼
Thank you 🙏 an just incase lol 1200 miles later it still works perfectly ❤️ thanks for watching the Channel.
Good job! 👏🏻👏🏻
This is really a good choice, I also want to do this.
Should work out great for you. Thanks for watching the channel 🙏
Thanks! Definitely one of the first things I'm gonna do whenever my bike shows up. Bike has been on order since January. Doing the bar end mirrors and comfort seat too.
Daymn that’s a long time! I’ve been waiting 2 months with a deposit here in WA and just finally decided to buy one in Las Vegas and had it shipped. Paid out the ass tho.
@@benjaminhollar7462 Yeah, I have my price and color locked in and there's none anywhere near me anyway. Supposedly sometime this month but not holding my breath.
Awesome! Pretty easy. I’m sure you’ll be able to do it better. I want the comfort seat next ❤️ thank you for watching 🙏
I got tired of waiting so I found a new Trident 660 that wasn’t spoken for and snagged it to ride in town. I’ll dump it in a few months and probably make money on it. Get the MT-09 next spring. ✌🏻
@@tg8150 that’s not a bad idea. Ride safe
Did the same to mine now 👌 doing protapers soon
You da man! Well done
Thanks for the idea. I have Trace 9 but I'll do it too.
Thanks for watching the channel. I’m sure it will work out for you. I honked at a car on my right side today while riding to work. They looked right at me lol So it’s still functional even after the relocation. Ride safe
Nicely done indeed. I was planning to relocate it to the shelf I have in my garage, I may reconsider now :p
😂 yaaaa don’t to that. You may want to honk at a pedestrian or car. That’s a solid set up I showed and really takes less than an hour. Ride safe.
@@yamayari8351 Yep you right and I don't really like to have a button that doesn't work, psychologically perturbing ahah.
@@dene9803 lol I’m so OCD that button not working would have mentally drained me lol
We both sick lol
I prefer the cleaner side view vs the front oem mount. It sticks out like a sore thumb where you moved it to and I think you know that.
At least where it was, it was laid down and not so obvious.
Actually what I think I’ll do to mine is paint the silver part of the horn black as well. Cuz the silver part is really what catches the eye at first glance.
If you're relocating it to the side, it's better to upgrade to a roots or similar seashell style. It will be louder and still face it forward.
Looks so much better! I think I will relocate mine as well. The original placement looks awkward.
Ya. I’ve been watching it it. Had a few guys say it will get to hot an malfunction. But almost 300 miles after works just like new. No malfunction or signs of melting lol
ホーンの位置が気になってたから参考にさせていただきます👍
Thank you 🙏
Nice placement. Looking forward to doing this when I get mine. Do you plan on changing the reservoirs maybe like some rizomas?
I have, not sure when though. I’m so used to that reservoir since I have the same type on the 2018 R1 but considering the previous gens had a more profile look I’m planning on doing it when I change out my bars. Thanks for watching the channel.
just fitted a radiator guard on my mt09 today and the horn is so tight against the rad. tempted to try this. i do have a good tip for cutting wires though, if you have to cut a double wire (positive and negative that are glued together) cut them at different lengths because that way the new joins cannot ever come into contact with each other as theyll be at different points in the cable.
I did not show it in the video. But I staggered cut, tight twist them and taped them separately. Then did the heat shrink. Almost what your explaining. But you hit it on the head! That’s a great tip. I’ll try that for sure next time 🙏 thank you bro 😎
@@yamayari8351 thank you for the video
what did you use as the copper wire for extension? Any links or name? Appreciated!
That’s a nice relocation. Gonna have to do that eventually. You should try to find a small L bracket to make the horn face forward.
Also we’re you able to adjust the beam with that bolt?
@@jairoglyphx4003 yes. My bad for missing that on the video. I did raise the beam. I will test it tomorrow night.
Thank you. Ya, that’s a good idea. I can look into that for sure 🙏
Hello i put damper under healight and must relocate the horn, i do it the same sport (becouse there is only free space) i make extandet cable ... i still not drive the bike after relocation and wanna ask. Did heat will melt or gamage somehow the horn becouse is on the engine and close to heat colectors tell me please.
If anyone is thinking about doing this, make sure you leave some slack near the handle bar to allow you to turn the bars.
Where is the best place for steering dumper
U got a link for the mirrors?
What size of wire did you use to extend the horn ? I appreciate it! Thanks!
No problem. 22 gauge stranded wire. Thank you for watching the Channel 🙌🙏
Great video. My question is...does the horn have to be relocated to install a steering damper?
Yes it does. From what another person told me when they tried to with the horn at the stock location.
Just finish doing this to mine thanks to your video ! just wondering I couldn’t tell by your video but I’m guessing u seen where the little bracket held on by the two 8 mm bolts can also come off now where horn bracket mounted to , it’s a lot cleaner look , thanks so much
Bracket?? Really no. Did not notice. Let me look at that asap! Thank you 🙏 an thank you for watching the channel. Means a lot. Ride safe.
@@yamayari8351 I should add the outside bracket stays on for harness , this bracket is on the inside of that , ride safe too friend
Nice idea. Do you think the heat coming off the engine and exhaust will cause issues?
I think yes, that manifold will get hot.
Yes, the horn will stop working when the engine is hot.
Just so you know. YES it still works even over 1200 miles later, in the Florida heat and sun in the day with the engine close to 200 degrees for 6 hours straight every Sunday. No issues. The 2021 Yamaha MT07 has it in almost the exact location. Thank you for watching the channel.
@@yamayari8351 hi, thanks for the reply. The problem I see with FZ6 is not about the horn being permanently damaged after a ride. The problem is, that the horn simply stop making a sound when the engine gets warm. Sometimes it takes 5 mins, sometimes longer. When I stop, like for a short brake, the horn will then make sound again :)
Did you try to use it during a ride? I mean after like 15 minutes of ride? Thanks.
@@PetrLunak yes. I use it when I’m riding, Florida has crazy drivers so I use it often. Never had any issues. But to be fair I will test it tomorrow. We are doing a 4-6 hour ride. So I will test it throughout the ride to be sure. Keep you posted. Thank you for the explained details of your concern 🙏
Is it possible to put the horn under the black windshield? It is not there at the beginning, but you can see the windshield at the end of the video.
Possibly. I just like this location better. But it probably could fit there.
Hi Mate,
I saw you did the oil change on your own on the brand new bike. will it void warranty? I ordered MT09 service kit from a Yamaha dealer already.
I did basic maintenance like chain adjustment, oil change on my previous bike FJ-09. Now proud owner of 2023 MT09 SP. first oil change is coming up.
Thanks
Well I always say ask your dealer. Mine said no as long as I do it right lol but that’s all they said. Thank you for asking for sure.
An congratulations on the new Moto! Be safe 🙏
Did you use any bolts to attached it to the bottom radiator?
No, I have a box full of small screws and bolts. But any small bolt should fit.
Really Good Job, i will so this first, when MyGarage Mt09 arrive,..are there any problems behause the heat of the exhaust? Greetings from Germany Volli
Horn will stop working, don't do this.
@@PetrLunak thank you
My bike is still on order. Did you have to source the bolt to mount the horn. Looks like a through bolt and nylon locking nut. Very clean install, this is on my short list when it finally arrives.
Thank you 🙏 and thanks for checking the channel out. As far as the bolt I have so many screws and bolts laying around It’s crazy. Main thing I was looking for was a lock bolt or washer so it does not vibrate off and that it’s aluminum or stainless steel so it does not rust down the road. Good luck on the Moto ❤️
@@yamayari8351 the horns themselves end up rusting after the paint peels off
Excelente video! me gustaria q los grabes fuera del garage para que se vea mejor con la luz del sol
Gracias. Si es verdad. Next time :)
yamayari..can you improve lighting to ur video, then it will get better view ..big fan of urs
nice video, but isn't the horn wiring too close to the exhaust? That may cause some issues down the road
Somebody else actually mentioned the same thing. So I’ve been checking it every few rides to make sure it’s not melting. As for now it seems to be the same exact way I installed it. It’s really a few inches from the exhaust and on the 2021MT 07 it’s actually in the exact same spot. So I’m assuming that the wiring is OK. If it gets damaged within another month or so I definitely will correct it and re-post a video. But for now seems to be holding up just perfect.
That's nice but can the heat burn the wire
Had it here for 6000’miles. No issues.
Hey man can you try to expose better in your next videos or get some light to assist camera, often your videos are underexposed
Hello, nice mod. Good looking and clean. After this time the horn is still 100 functional? I order mine and the dealer said that could do this modification. I shoe your video and he question if is still working. :-)
Absolutely! Almost 2500 miles later an I have had zero issues 🙏
One more thing, you REALLY need to install better lights in your garage for your own sake and the videos sake! :) would improve your content aswell! :)
Exactly, too much light coming in from outside. Can’t really see what’s going on 🙁
Could you shove it under the wind deflector or is the horn too big
I actually considered that. I even removed the tank. Was just to tight. Plus I wanted this to be easy. So this was this easiest solution for me.
I'm trying to get those two inside screws off the radiator. Any tips? Using a Phillips and it just spins. Thank you
Watch my video of the radiator guard install. I talk more about it. It’s in my MT09 play list. They are a pain for sure!
Thank you. Maybe I stripped it already cuz it's just spinning
@@mattgame84 Get a paper clip or a safety pin and stick it in between the screw and the fastener and as you slightly reverse it out put pressure like popping a paint can with the safety pin and it should reverse out.
@@yamayari8351 your awesome, going to try that. Those pins always give me a hard time.
The headlight has a possibility to be lowered? For me its head where too up high need to be lowered a bit to look good.
Yes. That gold screw that you see once you remove the headlight assembly or cover is the headlight positioning bracket. Just follow the instructions to remove the headlight cover. Then either tighten or loosen the gold screw to your desired position.
New video up showing how to adjust the headlight 🙏
Wow that's great but what I really meant is the entire head can head if can be lowered? Btw the bike is really great with your mods
@@banzaicharge3088 thank you. Not sure it can be but I did see a video where a guy photoshopped it lower. It looked pretty bad ass!
💪😊👍👍👍
Did you end up messing with that screw to adjust the headlight beam?
Yes. I forgot to mention that. It did raise the beam. I will test it out tonight to make sure it’s at a good angle.
New video up showing how to adjust the headlight 🙏
Dude I hope your channel takes off fr
I decided on blue over the storm because of your vids.
Thank you for watching. I appreciate the kind words. If it does great, if not I do it for fun. Love this motorcycle ❤️ and the positive vibes. Thank you
@YamaYari , please blinker relocate? loose
Your blinker is detached?
@@yamayari8351 yes, how to fix? sorry my translate :-)
Hay alguna forma de hacer que la headlight sea más luminada con más lúmenes?
hopefully there is a spot on the bike where you dont need to cut wires
I really tried. Trust me. That wire is only 7inches long. So the only way to move it to a safe location that won’t effect the steering and keep a good look is in the chassis area. Or directly under the tank. But even then you would have to extend the wires.
@@yamayari8351 thanks for letting me know! :)
@@yamayari8351 what kind of wire did you use, do you think speaker wire would work
@@PhrozenPhlanges it could, but I used 24 gauge thin stranded wire.
Guys, don't do it. When the engine is hot, the horn will stop working. I did this on fz6, same type of horn, exactly the same location very close to the engine, bellow the radiator.
What year FZ?
@@yamayari8351 2010. S2.
How long did it last before it failed?
@@yamayari8351 it depends on the weather and how long and how fast I'm driving. It tooks about 20 minutes before the horn fails because of the heat. It works in the beginning of the ride, but then, when the engine is hot, it fails. After some time, when I stop, the horn starts to work again :)
I will try to make some adjustments, so the heat will be no more a problem.
How about your horn after a long ride in hot weather?
@@PetrLunak I did 2 1/2 hours a few nights ago and honked at the old lady to open the garage door. She heard me honk from the driveway an she was in the house. So as for now it’s working fine. But I will keep an eye on it. Possibly in time. But the new MT07 has it positioned basically in the same place. Who knows lol but so far so good.
what did you use as the copper wire for extension? Any links or name? Appreciated!
Just some extra wire that I had laying around. But if I were to pick some it would probably be 22 gauge stranded wire.
