The infamous look to the right, no hands on the mic, blank look on Julians face when beginning a song, the abuse and mistreatment of the mic, the hand behind his back when singing with the mic in his other had.. Legend.
That Someday performance was my introduction to the Strokes and I remember it vividly, particularly when he said Holiday greetings to everyone during the song. I was living overseas at the time and somehow when I think of that experience, watching that performance in my little foreign apartment on the Armed Forces Network is one of the things I always remember.
Thats cool, might be a strange yet good feeling. Since im 20 and live in Brazil i got introduced to the strokes thanks to youtube, and everytime the shuffle plays Reptilia i kinda remember that day.
Albert was all over the place... he does keyboards too in other songs... without his persona I think the strokes wouldnt have captivated so many... and that Fro!!! that always an eye catcher...
Thanks so much for putting this together. And thank you Dave for showcases true talent! Also Conan had a whole week with them as musical guests. Yep, they're that great!
you're right i timed it. live is 17.11 recorded version is 16.92 i stopped the timer after right when he finishes saying "one by one baby here the come"
It seems like they got darker and more depressing especially Julian but maybe it's because we're missing the Solo album Julian phase where he was all about happiness and peace and spirituality
One of my favorite bands ever, they also influenced arctic monkeys heavily. You can never complain about that. "Is this it" is still my favorite album by them. But I can't win is still my favorite song. If you are looking for new music, try searching The Stumble and Shake - Oh my darling, Oh my dear (Earthquake Version) you may be in for a surprise!
they didnt stop trying, jules actually let the rest of the band collaborate. that is why the 4th and 5th albums are so different. the first three are just the work of jules, the last two are the work of all of them - of course it is going to sound different!
Very cool!! Would love to see a compilation from their other tv show performances...I'm curious, what did you think of the slowed version of "The end has no end"... I personally like it at the tempo on the album (7:01)
everybody talks about Julian but Julian vocals doesn't represent the talent of the band you forget the band as a whole and which is a common goal of unity it pisses me off without nick who's the genius there would be no strokes singers can get replaced but a band that gels together as another presence and you know there sound before the singer speaks priceless enough said
You make a very good point. But they would be even less without Julian. Their most critically acclaimed album 'Is This It' was written by Julian alone.
Lets be honest it's not like Julian has a amazing voice at best mediocre but his charismatic presence and dont give a shit rock star attitude makes him the popular frontman that he is rather than him being known for a great singer
the lyrics are really interesting tho and relatable. without that, it wouldn't have the personality it does. it takes a team to make something great. that's the cool thing about a good band is that it's not the same without any one of them because they all play an important part. I admire the simultaneous technical prowess and restraint and pop sensibility of the instruments and the overall talent they have for creating beautifully infectious melodies.
damn i gotta say i kinda hate the last appearance they did on letterman something was obviously off with julian but at least we get nick valensi with a blank expression for three minutes
Cause he thinks he doesn't made a good performance. He even says to Letterman somethin' like "I ruined it" and then David says "No, I think you were fine"...
Julian screwed up the lyrics for the entire second verse of the song and Fab played the radio version's ending rather than the studio version's ending towards the end of the song so the entire band had to switch last minute to the radio edit. It was still a solid performance, but Julian felt terrible for screwing up the lyrics.
Ahora que me di cuenta Albert tiene la misma correa de guitarra desde los inicios de la banda, hasta ahora, jaja, apuesto que tiene la misma plumilla desde 2001 xd

Excellent memory! Beautiful story you shared. Cheers
Love how Nick plays a different guitar in every video but Albert plays that White Strat in every single one hahaha
jam4996 nick plays a Gibson Epiphone Riviera most of the time
Based on my experience, once you start playing a white strat, you'll never wanna play anything else
take it or leave it.. what a performance on a talk show as well incredible!
That move of albert in the minute 5:19 xD kills me XD
There's no way you cannot love this band
Oh man...Julian's voice and face ....have mercy 😍😭
Jules looks so emotional or whatever during take it or leave it ..
Someday always gives me this happy feeling inside 😊 it's so nostalgic
this is the best idea ever
Albert was all over the place... he does keyboards too in other songs... without his persona I think the strokes wouldnt have captivated so many... and that Fro!!! that always an eye catcher...
God, Julian is such an amazing vocalist
It's funny watching Nick slowly turning into Jesus ;D
i actually love their latest performance julian is so energetic and nick is so mysterious
Tbh I'm not sure Nick or Julian wanted to even be there, the recording of angles saw some building of inner tensions. They're fine now though :)
Thanks so much for putting this together. And thank you Dave for showcases true talent! Also Conan had a whole week with them as musical guests. Yep, they're that great!
The start of take it or leave it gives me chills
this is pure awsomeness thanks some one in this world write and sing and play guitar ,drums like this ......... thankssssssssss
I appreciated how Jules wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving at the breakdown in Someday
I feel sorry for Fab at the last minute, Julian seems so...perfectionist.
Thank you so much for this compilation. Another "Strokes" fan is a friend of mine.
I love Julian's little bow at the end
This day in 2000, The Strokes played their first ever UK show when they appeared at The Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth
la primera presentación es lo mejor que le pudo haber pasado al mundo
That jean jacket in Someday though
I love the bad video quality. It makes it look like it's in the 70s
Théophile Richart it’s not really bad, this is 2001. HD cable tv was nonexistent haha
It will look like the 2010s in the 2090s when 4k is the norm lol
Como si estaria en VHS 🙌🏽
it saddens me how trough out the years jules looses his deep gritty voice. :'(
7:11 it looks like his microphone pole slipped and his eyes go really big haha
HAHAHA XD
This song was the first song I heard from the strokes
Thanks for compiling this, great stuff.
I'm trying so hard not to be fanboy of Julian, so don't make me watch these kind of videos. Great upload, thanks dude
Excellent vid man!
The sound is amazing...
julian you're the best!!! god bless you
Great vid of the most unique band of the 21st Century!
Why am not obsessed all over again

Albert's little dance 00:26 ♥♥♥
amazing this guys
3:33 lol he fall?
Thanks!
Julian definitely don't like mic stands.
you're right i timed it. live is 17.11 recorded version is 16.92 i stopped the timer after right when he finishes saying "one by one baby here the come"
Julian sei un grandissimo figo
hermoso
Fucking
Perfection. Miss these dudes.
Nikolai hasn't changed a bit.
AWESOME !!!
I think his best voice was back in '06
It seems like they got darker and more depressing especially Julian but maybe it's because we're missing the Solo album Julian phase where he was all about happiness and peace and spirituality
Holly shit I still like the band ✋
Ok darling

14:30 is amazing.
Can anyone locate their performance of "I can't win"? They played it on letterman but it's hard to find, there's a sloppy quality of it on Tudou
Jul 25 2020...
16:32 in 2001 he tripped on that speaker
The Strokes tend to play ALL their songs slower (quite unusual compared to most other band).
They got stuck forever in 2006.
...Just a note; "The End Has No End" is always played slower live for some reason. Did you notice that as well?
everybody talks about Julian but Julian vocals doesn't represent the talent of the band you forget the band as a whole and which is a common goal of unity it pisses me off without nick who's the genius there would be no strokes singers can get replaced but a band that gels together as another presence and you know there sound before the singer speaks priceless enough said
I don't think the strokes would sound the same without Julian at all
You make a very good point. But they would be even less without Julian. Their most critically acclaimed album 'Is This It' was written by Julian alone.
+damn rite Yes and no,they are a very tight band but the singer is a huge part of that sound you can't replace him
Lets be honest it's not like Julian has a amazing voice at best mediocre but his charismatic presence and dont give a shit rock star attitude makes him the popular frontman that he is rather than him being known for a great singer

There will'be not more strokers on live. For now band is broken but enjoy Comedown Machine, the most underrated album of all times..
You forgot Hard To Explain, but its an excellent job, dude (:
Ummmmmm Best Fucking Band Ever Too Walk The Face.
Of the earth?
Kefah Jaber no, of Letterman
Kefah Jaber question mark on that we know it explain tell that fool lol
Selassie Chambers *to
Selassie Chambers there has definitely been better....
True
damn i gotta say i kinda hate the last appearance they did on letterman something was obviously off with julian but at least we get nick valensi with a blank expression for three minutes
Leyla Espinoza they weren’t supposed to do the “radio ending” which sorta fucked the ending which was why he was pissed at the end
Someday
Why was julian upset after the last song?
Cause he thinks he doesn't made a good performance. He even says to Letterman somethin' like "I ruined it" and then David says "No, I think you were fine"...
Julian screwed up the lyrics for the entire second verse of the song and Fab played the radio version's ending rather than the studio version's ending towards the end of the song so the entire band had to switch last minute to the radio edit. It was still a solid performance, but Julian felt terrible for screwing up the lyrics.
each comment is appreciated but I hope that not only you have noticed that only
❤👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
he says "radio ended, i don't know why" .. ?
He says "radio ending" because the band was doing the wrong ending.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
He commonly fucks up while singing and he tends to yell to himself a lot. You can see him mouthing words quite often, actually.
2:28 take it!!
Yeehaw!!
2:26
y el chico de los minutos :"u?
Oh, and Dave.. they're rentals
05:19 ♥♥♥
3:32 😂😂
If a band dive bombed after a class debut it is the strokes. A pity first album was a messy work of art.
Not at Eurockeeennes... they played it pretty fast there, I tried to keep up on guitar, but it's not easy
'Yi-haa!'
Poor julian
Plus he looks kinda like the new doctor... This might not be a coincidence.
the drummer is so much better *-*
Nick Cave + Joey Ramone = Julian Casablancas
They keep taking down take it or leave it live 😒
Honestly kinda surprised they played Heart In A Cage in 2006 instead of You Only Live Once or On The Other Side. Just kinda weird to me.
It looks like they're worn out after every performance in that chronological order
+scarylegend They look high as shit later on
I do not think that ever touched that subject, you may have mistaken for his acting SNL
Fab has great timing.
Maybe they just want to play it slower. Ever think of that?
what did letterman mean when jules was hard on himself?
JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagria
to be real if julian doesnt be in this group you never heard of them so stop sayin bullshit
