The germans didnt underestimate the russian winter. They invaded in spring for gods sake. But mud, and rain, in addition to poor planning made the invasion get bogged down in key points. Which prolonged the operation through winter. It wasnt an underestimation of weather but an underestimation of time.
Same with the french, They invaded in spring but were slowed BY HEAT OF ALL THINGS. And if the russian government weren't so trolly they would've lost as they stopped responding to Napoleon's massages to slow him as he waits

The Russian famine of 1921 is misportrait, it was in a Civil War still, all armies and other forces used the the take all the grain tactic, but the red army was, next to makhnovia and some smaller forces, the only one to let the farmers have a base supply of grain with which they were supposed to survive. Since the surplus grain was taken either way, the farmers worked less. Supply issues and a literal war didn't help it. The Gulags had little to nothing to do with that. Not only the soviet union, but nearly all of Europe, especially the balkan and Eastern Europe, experienced food shortcomings and/or famines.
@@your_averageboi9083 That's literally the only 2 famines. 1921 and the 1930s. Only the post war era came close since euopre was completely broken.
The 1930s famine was the result mismanagement and the actions of the so called kulaks, which hid, burned or sold grain on the black market. This was also pushed by a natural drought which hit republics and nations like the Ukrainian ssr, kazakh ssr, the Caucasian ssr's, Romania and the Moldovan ssr(and some others).
After that, the soviet people and government achieved food security even higher than by western Standarts and daily nutrition levels were higher than those in the west.
While the "Stalin era famine" of the 30s was partially due to mismanagement and/or corruption in the municipal governments, the 21 famine was mainly due to the war and the soviet government under Lenin openly said that they were screwed and accepted aid from NGOs like the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz. The 21 famine also wasn't only a thing in the Ussr or the RSFSR but more in whole post war Europe.
Introducing other factors that contributed to the famine does not magically eradicate the factors pointed out in the video that also contributed to the famine. Plenty of nations have had civil wars stacked upon wars but they weren't posting notices in towns reminding people that its wrong to eat your own children. That's how bad the famine was, and the food shortages across the world were paltry in comparison.
In order for your communist revolution to work, you're going to need the entire nation to comply. The most wealthy in most russian villages at the time were farmers. How many of them do you think objected? What do you think they did with them?
@@PippenFTS "Junkerland für alle" is the German saying for the Lenin era, Expropriation of the feudal landlord's and giving each farmer a plot. The richest in the Civil War were mostly the feudal landlords. Most farmers worked as serfs under them. The "richer" farmers only became a common thing during and after the Civil War.
The richest farmers (what I called the "kulaks") did, when the armies came to collect food, burn, hide to sell it on the black market or stopped producing. And as the armies went hungry, the generals on all sides became more desperate. So they took all grain, or some kulaks were injured as they were "sued" for actively starving people to death, sometimes even killed. This of course isn't justified, but happened on all sides.
The gulag system wasn't as build up in the famine as it was in the middle 30s, I mean, there was a war going on. The gulags were supposed to just suppress militant uprisings and opposition during the Civil War and serve as prisons of sorts. Similar structures can be found in the US, the DPRK or in China (forced labour prisons).
The gulags had little to do with the famine, that is a misconception.
The famine did also hit other nations, like Hungary, Romania to list a few. In Germany at that time, some areas experienced similar famines in a smaller scale, grain was still rationed and people often ate their pets or rose pets as food supply(most popular one being the rabbit). The RSFSR just was hit the hardest as their Civil War was the biggest.
If the war wouldn't have been an issue, the famine and the drought would have most likely been less harmful than what we know now. Also the feudal russian empire experienced famines on a regular period. The soviet union later was the first to stop this.
To sum it up: Russia and the RSFSR had already experienced food shortages since world War I, which didn't stop but got more intense in the Civil War. The actions of the "kulaks", hiding grain or just producing less didn't help much, as all armies took grain for free from the farmers.
It's funny how your history lesson until 1917 is like Russia is nice, and then Russia doesn't allow you to speak. The tsardom shot anyone who disagreed with them and had massacres like the 1905, 1914 and similar massacres. Under Lenin critique of the system was allowed, as long as it's not systemic (like another party/newspaper) or gaining public attention (like doing public speeches). Lenins govrnment was way more open to say when they screwed up than both Stalins or Nicolas II's era(and also more democratic than both of them).
Also, the soviet people didn't vote in favor of a federation, the referendum was about if the people wanted to keep the Ussr. The election on the confederation vote was intercepted by the military coup.

what if you used the new microsoft flight simulator or maybe microsoft flight simulator X to help when google maps doesn't have accurate 3D data?
i know it's a bit of a price tag but theoretically only one person really needs to buy it (or y'know there are other ways of getting games-) and it seems to be a lot more reliable about having proper 3D modeling around the world
just a thought that might help, it also might not though but i think it's worth considering

@antarctis people who reviewed their towns found it accurate. It certainly doesn't put random boxes, it uses various sources of data to generate accurate dimensions

Half way through the vid I forgot I was watching a minecraft vid and thought I was watching a history vid
I really hope you are making a profit off of this and continue to have support for the years to come, you really do deserve it. This is something that has never been done before and you guys are tackling it head on. It would be really easy to get burnt out on it and it will take a very long time to do but someone had to start the project or it would never happen. You as the head pioneer of this project have gained so much of my respect and being the first? That will never go away no matter who carries this on at any point in time. Until it’s eventual completion you will always be the one responsible for making history, I can only hope that you and I will be there for that day. Keep going man, you guys are doing AMAZING!!!

Correction: the will break the rule soon. A recent law basically erased the presidency history, so Putin will be able to run for president two more times without a break. As far as the law is concerned, no one has ever been president if Russia, so this won't officially break the rule, but c'mon, it totally breaks the rule
