Edit: Well, I made this video just a month before the Russia Ukraine conflict started, which is why that was not included. It is awful that such a thing is happening today, and I really do hope for the best. Hopefully this can end soon.

that feeling when the history of several centuries before Peter the Great fit in a couple of minutes, and the history of 300 years fit in 10 minutes)
It did feel strange for me too while I was working on this video lol, but I think it makes sense based on Russia's significance in the recent centuries.
Because untill Ivan the fourth russia hadnt existed as a united country. It had been separated into many little kindoms ruled by a Rurik's (the viking who had been asked by slavs to rule them) descendants, who swored with each other (there where even the kindom, which were ruled by a special soviet and which hadn't one ruler,many years before democracy even existed!). This disconnection caused the mongol invasion, which prevented Russian development for many years. So yeah, Russian history as a country starts from the Ivan the Terrible :).
@@misterzetius7240 However, there were many other events as well. The baptism of Russia, the invasion of the Pechenegs and Polovtsy, the same feudal fragmentation, it is not for nothing that the study of history before Ivan IV at school lasts 3 years)

I like watching history videos on short format, because I don't want to learn history of Russia very deeply (we learn it from 6th grade up to 11th grade)

Funfact about the russian flag. Its based on the dutch flag. Peter the first liked the netherlands alot. Its why saint peterburg has a canal, they founded a navy(also modeled after the dutch navy from the time) and also why you can find dutch style forts in russia

Kievan Rus did not have a yellow-blue flag. Who invented this myth? (Let me remind you that the history of Russia begins with Novgorod Rus, it became Kievan later)

2:11 the russian empire flag with yellow coat of arms in upper left of the flag was only used in ww1 from 1914 until the collapse of the empire in 1917. there were three flags used during Peter 1' reign, the blue cross with white upper left and lower right with red upper right and lower left (Ensign of the ship Oryol 1668-1693), then normal flag of russia with the bronze imperial eagle in it (Flag of the Tsar of Russia 1693-1700), then later in 1705 the normal flag of Russia was used until the creation of First official State Flag of the Russian Empire (black, yellow and white 1858-1896).

Nicholas was overthrowned by russians before February's Revolution, there were two revolutions. After October's revolution, tsar Nicholas II was overthrowned and after February's Revolution, tsar Nicholas II was killed.

Before the Bolshevik uprising, the February Revolution took place and Tsar (Emperor) Nicholas II was forced to abdicate in favor of his brother Mikhail. But he immediately refused and appointed a provisional government (the Russian Republic was formed). And then the Bolsheviks started the October Revolution, and then the civil war. But the Bolsheviks really killed Tsar Nicholas II. After the overthrow of the tsar, he was sent to Yekaterinburg, where he lived quietly with his family. When the civil war began, Yekaterinburg was under the rule of the Bolsheviks, and the tsar was killed

Thank you for the comment, yeah, I realized the Russian revolution clip was off because before the communists there was a period of a Liberal government, but I simplified it. Mostly because the liberal government lasted for a short amount of time and doesn't have much significance today, while while the Bolshevik defined Russia's 20th and modern history.

I was considering making another video, maybe Ukrainian history. Even though it's pretty similar to russia, I could include the more recent events

A couple of fun facts:
1. Through the fault of Ivan the Terrible, incomparably fewer people died than under other progressive rulers of Europe at that time (More people died in France during one St. Bartholomew's Night than during the entire reign of Ivan IV)
2. Napoleon was not defeated by winter - by the time it began, he had already lost many soldiers after Borodino and sitting in Moscow. The final defeat was predetermined by his defeat in the battle of Maloyaroslavets, because of which he had to retreat back outside Russia through the devastated areas.
3. It is hardly possible to say that someone won the Crimean War, given that the restrictions imposed on Russia were also imposed on Turkey, and France and England together suffered almost equal losses to Russia with a much smaller army at their disposal.
Well, in this war, the Anglo-French troops were defeated by Russian monks in the north and ordinary citizens in Kamchatka.
4. Russian Russian-Japanese war was started by JAPAN, without declaring war, firing at the Russian Port Arthur. In addition, Japan suffered enormous losses during this war, while Russia lost only because of overly cautious command and the revolution that began. Napoleon and Adolf couldn't take Russia, but the Mongols just drove right through. Probably because of climate but STILL.
The video is cool, but there is an inaccuracy at the beginning.
1. Not that the Vikings founded Rus', but rather the tribes of the Eastern Slavs called Rurik to be their knyaz'.
2. The flag of Ancient Rus' should simply be a bright red flag, not the flag of modern Ukraine.
3. If we talk about the state, it is better to use the term "Old Russian principalities" than "Kievan Rus", which is the designation of the era, and not the name of the state, which at that time was a fragmented principality with its princes and order and who did not listen to each other and fought among themselves, only legally recognizing The Kiev Principality is the main one.

Can you do a history of Spain? I would say that it is very interesting, from the Phoenicians, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, reconquest, conquest of America, the inquisition, the wars of the 30 years, the war of succession, war against British pirates, Napoleonic invasions, independence of the Americas, civil wars, frank, etc.
Spain is definitely on my to do list! It's not going to be the next video, but I have planned to make a video on Spain down the line.
