Being a 76 year old widow, it means a lot to have someone to turn to that won't steer me wrong.(no pun intended). I'm going to get your recommended filter today if possible. It seem like the original filter has bigger holes so that alot more dust go thru it just look at how dirty the fan get and that new filter holes are half it size would help filter the dust pet hair and other partial from being suck in further.This set up is not as restricted like air filter in the engine compart. So you can clean the filter more offen but due also check the fan every ten thousand miles or so. Just thinking...love your videos very informative to prius over. Thanks

Don't let things accumulate under the seat that might block fan intake. I discovered this after following the directions from another video that instructed the screen be removed and cleaned. I have a 2013 Prius model 2. There is no filter behind the back seat grill. Is there an easy way to check to see how much dust has built up on the HV battery? If I point my leaf blower over the grill, would that blow the dust off the battery? Does the air around the battery exit the car somewhere? The Toyota dealer wants to charge me $400 labor to remove the back seat and clean the dust off the battery.

    • @TheCarCareNut
      @TheCarCareNut  3 года назад +1

      Hi! I wouldn’t use a leaf blower as that would blow all the dust into the fan. I would instead use an inspection camera would you could buy off of Amazon cheap and send it in the vent to look at the fan. If the fan is clean there’s no need to worry install a filter for ease of cleaning in the future. If it’s dirty then it might be worth the investment to clean it once then install a filter and you’ll never have to clean it again just the filter which is easy

    Dear Car Care Nut: What do you think about running the car with BOTH of these filters at once (the second filter could catch what the first filter might miss thus providing double the protection)? My only concern in doing this is that perhaps it would “impede” overall airflow and not cool the battery as efficiently as using just one clean filter. LMK your thoughts. I was planning to use both filters but want to know your thoughts. Best, Rich Z

    2013 Prius V with 91k miles. I recently inspected and cleaned the intake to the HV cooling system (under the rear seat) and found it and the squirrel cage blower remarkably clean and free from any debris. I did not see any filter, but discovered from the comments here that it did not come with a filter. After doing a factory recall on the car, the dealer says that the "HV fan vent is clogged with debris and is missing filter" and recommended a $375 "HV fan service and filter replacement." I suspect they did not really inspect the air intake - a reason I avoid this dealership. Question: should I go to the trouble of replacing the interior trim with a piece accepting a filter? If I recall correctly, the air actually comes from beneath the seat. Thanks for you delightful videos!
