- The Victorinox Alox Bantam packs a huge amount of practical every day carry usefulness in an extremely small package with minimalist tools. I really enjoy mine.

I absolutely love my bantam alox. Its rapidly becoming my go-to EDC because it's so light and unobtrusive. One of the (many) reasons I like it so much is that it DOESN'T have a keyring loop: nothing pokes into your hand when youre using either tool and I love that.
It is definitely a simple but phenomenally good quality tool
I feel like the lack of a key ring adds to the slimness that makes it so easily stashed in a wallet or something similar. The slimness and minimalism is its selling point after all.
Amen! There is a reason Bantam doesn't come with a keyring! Another tip,The Harvester (Swiss Army 7), doesnt have the keychain frature either, because when you go to work harvesting for hours, you need better ergos on the handle. Victorinox literally has a Sak for any occasion!!
I love the bantam alox, even without a key ring. But it would be holy grail for ultralight EDC if they added the scissors.
Hi from the UK. Really enjoyed the video, one of the better reviews of this particular Victorinox model. I love the fact that this knife is so slim and unobtrusive yet is highly functional. We have restrictive knife laws in the UK and this is one type that we can carry legally as part of an EDC. Like the way you slotted it into your wallet.
Thanks Peter! It's a great one
The combo tool is great. It is thin but very solid. I used it to unscrew an old rusted screw and it wasn't damaged after that.
I have the non alox red one with the keychain and toothpick with tweezers. I use the screwdriver as a pry bar everyday at work. I like the alox being thin enough to fit in a wallet.
Very handy little knife. Just throw it in any pocket and forget it (until you need it, of course). Nice job.
I’ve got a blue smooth alox Bantam from the 1970’s and love it. It is pre combo tool, so it has the cap lifter and flat head screwdriver instead. Ultra thin yet durable and has great snap/action.
Does it have a keyring?
@@TontoGenio no keyring
Been caring a bantam in my wallet every day for years! Even accidentally brought it on a plane recently and it was not discovered.
Yeah I saw on Instagram that’s wild
@j k I have, but not very often as I normally have a GEC or other knife in my front pocket.
It's perfect for walet and walet is like mobile. Good solution for Crismis I bot my self Spirit MX clip and litle Batman:)
Corr you were lucky 😬😉
Great review. I had been carrying a Victorinox Alox 1/Solo for about a year and thought it was the perfect knife. Then I got this Bantam and I get more utility in a smaller, less expensive package....what's not to love !?!?! Its a Great Knife !!
I just ordered one today to carry in my County Fold Wallet from Etsy.
The Alox Bantam really needs the split-ring and then it would be a great EDC. The ultimate key-ring !
Yeah, it’s truly bizarre that it doesn’t have one
I just got one a couple of weeks ago. Even though I don't use a SAK often it's too handy not to have. Especially a knife that's thinner than my phone
Thank you so much for the great review. One thing you forgot to mention though was the wire stripper!
Yeah I don't use it much but it's there!
Loving your reviews. I have recently purchased my first ever SAK. The tinker (with smokey the bear on the covers, ofcourse). The quality of the Victorinox just blows my mind. The Bantam in ALOX is definitely on my radar. Im afraid Im a Victorinox nut now. As if I need another type of knife to collect. Haha. Thank you for the review and comparison. Keep up the good work. Go Barlow Bearcats!
I have the Pioneer that sort of splits the difference between Bantam and Farmer. These are tremendous value knives for what you get at the price point.
Love the bantam ! I have to ask though what what wallet is that ?
What kind of wallet is that?
honestly this is adequate for my daily use
Honestly, me too
Keychain featjre on Saks, isn't for that use only. Many people either clip their Saks on their belt loops using some chain or paracord and a clip. And thats only 1 more use. The versatility of Saks doesn't have limits! It lirally never ends. Bantam is a wallet/pocket etc knife. There are other saks that are perfect for your keys! Ambassador is my suggestion.
I have a Swiss army nail clip that I really like , and use a lot.
Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!
Yes, a key ring is definitely missing!
Good review! (subscribed)
Swiss Bianco used to have nice colored ones that did come with a key ring, but those were way more than $20 :)
(And they put the bigger ring on it, the same as we have on 91 and even 111 mm knives. To me it looks rediculous. Even on a Cadet, I replace the ring by one from a 58 mm, that fits the thickness of a Cadet much better. Or usually I just file that ring off like you did on that Farmer :D)
Thanks for subscribing!
Nice video. There is a version of the Bantam (item # 0.2303) that has a key ring as well as a toothpick.
The non alox, right?
@@KnifeThoughts Yes. Keyrings are not standard in alox versions because maybe they chip easily when keys are attached right next to the knife ?? Not sure. Don't see anything official from Victorinox on this though.
@@KnifeThoughts I have the Cadet which has a keyring and more tools hence two row yet still very slim & sturdy. I personally like that the Bantam does not have the keyring as just makes it more minimalist but the Cadet is the more useful knife overall I feel and the extra row bulk is not very much as the scales are still slim compared with those on the larger Alox. They maybe could have put the keyring on the Bantam and left it off the Cadet as the Bantam being the lightest/slimmest maybe suits being carried on a keyring better. I think they found a good balance with the Cadet though for pocketable size and functions so it got me looking at a Bantam but I'm not in any hurry. Might even get another Cadet instead!
My favourite and I got 8 different SAKs
Super functional
My number one SAK because it is my EDC because I don't even know that it is there...for sure a 10 on a scale of 10 and if you don't need more functionality (the screwdriver even works pretty well on phillips head) why carry more 🙂
3:54 Because it's not a key ring, despite what Victorinox says. It is like you said yourself a ring for a lanyard. You don't put a pocket knife on a ring with all the other keys. Not even a small knife like the Bantam. It adds to the bulk and it looks weird.
I like the alox, but I'd prefer if it had the keyring loop too.
The non Alox has it but is thicker 🤷♂️
I wish this were a 93mm instead of 84mm. Too short a knife for my taste although the quality is outstanding.
why doesnt it have a keyring though?
I sure don't know
Good 📹
Thanks Bruce
Would be perfect with a ring.
Yep!
It's very evident imho... Adding (ruining) a key ring to sleek paper thin bantam alox would completely ruin it's streamlined design. Would be kinda silly if they managed to jam that much utility into that little of a space just to end up throwing a stupid fucking keyring lug like every other SAK anymore that would end up being thinker than the knife itself with the actual split ring attached. I get the confusion tho in your mind you think it's smaller than the farmer and dozens upon dozens of other Swiss knives that do have key ring attachments and since the 58mm.classics are keychain knives than 84mm should also be keychain friendly at least more so than some of the big bulky 91mm models...
Well that's just it, this bantam alox especially is already so thin and ergonomically correct that it was intended to be a perfect pocket carry knife where as something like the farmer or Swiss champ series yes they have key rings but dont let the "key"word "key" (pun intended) throw you off, I believe they are more logical in those bigger models not because people use them as keychain knives but more that there really is no other secure way to attach to person and carry those bigger models as they are too big for pocket carry, at least comfortably anyways so the key ring attachment enables the use of Paracord, chain, lobster claw etc etc clipped to ones back pack or something for example....
No that is in all honesty part of the beauty and major attraction of alox bantam is that it looks like a Swiss army knife in it's purest form no unnecessary bullshit. I wish that ALL SAKs came without a keychain attachment and that it were just an optional feature one could choose.when placing an order of they like..
Idk,.I just can't help but think of cheap or tacky like a novelty or like some ali.express knife or something from a gas station or even given away as a gift to employees or for donating to wounded warriors or something and that's your "free" prize for donating.. thats the subconscious feelings I have towards key rings on Swiss knives with with exception of the classic series which are ya know, keychain knives...😵💫 And that is more when thinking about the plastic scaled versions..
These are now made in China.
No they're not. Show me any evidence of that.
@@KnifeThoughts I ordered one from Amazon Canada and it was posted from China, original box, original knife!
You ordered a knockoff, sorry
@@KnifeThoughts no way
I will never pry with a flathead; I have a gerber prybrid already.
Want to send me one for review? 😉😂 I’ve always wanted to have one lol
What kind of wallet is that?
It's just from AliExpress
@@KnifeThoughts Right on. Cool setup! Thanks for the response.
