- The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is the bike that Royal Enfield fans have been desperate to see since the release of the original Himalayan in 2016. From the brand new liquid cooled 450 cc Sherpa engine, the enhanced twin Spar tubular frame, the Showa suspension to the eye-catching design elements, this adventure motorcycle truly has it all, and at a price point that won't break the budget. It seems like it's a bike that is universally loved...but we know someone who really didn't like it.

I said this a few years ago that Royal Enfield is going to dominate the Japanese market in due course. Love my Interceptor and i have been riding bikes since the late 60's.
I’d totally agree with that, especially in the mid capacity segment. All of the 650 twin models are wonderful and this new Iiquid cooled 450 is right up there with the best bikes on the market in this segment
@@BikerTorque Come on, should we talk about all the great Japanese bikes ? What if they lowered their prices a little ? I wouldn't count them out just yet.
@@leeinwisdon’t get me wrong, there are some great Japanese bikes, but only after the Interceptor have we started to see some good retro mid capacity bikes. Most companies seem to want to produce bigger and bikes.
My 650 V Strom is now 19 years old with 130,000km and still going like a champion. I can honestly say I personally don't think any bike made in China, such as the very well reviewed Benelli 702X, or this Himalayan, will achieve this.
Dominate? Lololol lolol this junkfield? This scam company? Competing against Japanese masterpieces? It cldnt compete in its prime, it wont now. Delusion is too much
RE haven't chased the market with this but instead have built upon their brand values and served thier customer base, which is refreshing and has not only bought a very appealing bike to market, they have also enriched thier broader brand with it. Other manufacturers should take heed. Yes, RE is a budget brand but it's an entirely credible builder of charismatic machines.
Perfectly said, couldn’t agree more. They are going to continue to dominate this mid capacity segment for many years to come.
would not call it a budget brand when even their cheapest models get better paint jobs than the usual mid-price offering from other brands.
The only thing us westerners perceive as budget is the price and power, but this is just because their market values price and fuel consumption above power any day
@@benjamin.f.b. i think in terms of budget we are both referring to price point, RE machines are incredible value for money, particularly the new Himalayan 450. Definitely not budget from a quality and power perspective
I have booked mine here in Delhi, before buying it I borrowed it from my friend, he has Hanle black and I am buying the same top version. Rode it for 339 kms and fell in love with every bit. There are some vibrations but given it's big CC single cylinder it's fine. The vibes creep in around 90- 110 kmph mark but settle down beyond that and engine is really butter smooth near 120 kmph mark which is good for cruising. Also, I managed to go off road and was blown away by its suspension it's truly magic as everyone is saying in the reviews. Looking forward to long trips with this one 🥰
Congratulations on the purchase, it’s a wonderful bike both on and off road, and that suspension is top notch
I was wondering why these guys didn’t comment on the vibrations part. This has been a major red flag for me as 95-120 kmph is really a sweet spot for highway riding in India.
Great review as always guys. Love Tegan's honesty.
Thanks Jimi. It’s a wonderful bike, at least 2 of us loved riding it.
Ive got the 411 rode 14k the first year zero issues. It doesn't over promise at anything and does everything you ask of it. Ive been riding since 77 many bikes, ive a Buell and Harley but this gets the ride time.
I didn’t mind the 411 but the 450 is a massive step up on every level.
Informative report guys! This machine is in the mix with the MT 450 CF moto, ill just wait a bit and see what issues arise over the next year, since both untried in the real world yet!
Cheers! 🙂👍
We need to try and speak to CF Moto here in Australia to see if we can get some bikes, hearing good things.
@@BikerTorque CF stands for communist filth 😏.
Most ageist video from Biker Torque to date. Old mate “didnt see the shift light”; “I’m not a die hard ADV rider, I haven’t reached my 60th birthday yet”. Righto. Apart from that balanced review.
lol, hopefully you still enjoyed it
Got to say I’m loving mine, great on the road, on sand, on gravel, snotty single track, no problem! Some minor niggles but overall great bike at a great price!
It safe to say that you could find a few niggles with pretty much any bike, agree, great bike at a great price point
It’s a great looking bike I look forward to seeing one in the flesh. I had issues with the highway speed of the old one and I felt like a greyhound on a golf ball. So I’m very interested in checking out the new one. Funny the differences in all your opinion of this bike. Great review team 😎🤙🏻
Cheers Big Bert. I suppose we all ride differently and look for different things in bikes. I reckon you’d be OK on it, Lukas is about the same height as you.
I’m SOOO glad you’ve said what you said about getting into second. The number of times I’ve ‘neutraled’ mine is frustrating.
I’ll get used to it, so not really a complaint, but I thought it was just me!
Definitely not just you, all three of us had the same issue, but Tegan & Lukas seemed to have the main issue with it. I probably rode it a bit more than the other two and definitely got used to it
Just switch to Motul 7100 oil, 10W-40 full ester synthetic. You have to use Motul 7100 oil if you ever want your motorcycle to shift properly. On motorcycles, it's the type of oil, the brand, the viscosity, and the characteristics of the oil that determine how good it shifts. That's because they have a wet clutch, and the transmission uses the same oil as the engine. Changing brands of oil is like changing the whole transmission. Some oils don't work. Amsoil Metric 10W-40 works well. But Motul 7100 is even better at high temperatures, with no change at high temperatures. You'll notice an increase in top end horsepower with Motul 7100 too.
Such an honest review and I own the old bike.
It's better than the old one , but it's still not there yet.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I’d have to say it’s very, very close to “getting there”.
@@BikerTorque Enjoyed it and its true.
You can still put a tube in a tubeless tire if you get a flat. Idk how yall dont know that.
That’s a very good point
I took delivery of my 450 on the 1 June and I had to move the gear lever because even with my size 11 feet I struggled to go from 1st to 2nd, also around town in stop start traffic at low speeds the bike is very gear change needy but if you use the Eco mod it becomes very user friendly. The only problem with that is to go back to Performance mode you have to switch off the ignition....... Apart from that and the screen which I will change when the high version becomes available in the UK I love it.
Yeah, I forgot to mention that it was easier to ride in ECO mode in traffic, but to be fair, I didn’t really ride it in traffic, mostly back roads and dirt roads.
I bought one. Unlike the video suggests, I bought mine for dirt and it is excellent offroad. Love mine.
Nice one, it’s a very capable off roader.
I like the red and black. I would still like to try one of these. Great price for a new bike.
Awesome price, great for some of those dirt roads in Tassie.
7:25 just switch to the day mode, display background will be white and no problem in sunlight.
Good tip
Righto...
No Indicating
No Mirrors!
Ross said so 😅😂❤
Great trio review guys! 👌
lol, exactly.
ok tried today the Hima while the shotgun the hunter and the interc a while ago. best of them all imo is the interc. the hima does better offroad than on road!!! i tried on a rocky countryside road after going on flat towny road and i immediately felt more grip on the rocky one! it's so strange! i even aimed at the holes on the ground cause i thought i didn't crossed one since i felt nothing while riding for a while. color me surspised simply put the hima doens' let you feel nothing! still the interc is a beeter pure motorcycle for normal use.
Yes, the Interceptor is still a great bike, but my personal preference would be the Continental GT over the Interceptor, love the look and the handling
I am happy to see smaller capacity dual use bikes coming out. Now If we could see the Japanese bring out a 400 - 500cc dual sport/trail bikes with larger oil capacity for longer oil changes and 140kgs max weight.
I would go back to a DRZ400 if it had a wider ratio, 6 speed gear box!
Instead I bought a Cfmoto 450MT before I even knew about the RE 450 Himalayan. Though in looking at the two bikes, I picked the one best suited for what I want to do with it
The review you guys did I really like and the thoughts of 3 riders give a better idea of what the bike is like.
One thing I have seen that I don't loke about the Himalayan is the air filter change. Fuel tank off, disconnect 2 or 3 hoses just to get at it. Bad idea to me, no matter how good the bike is.
Thanks, we are hoping to bring some more reviews with the three of us, time permitting. Haven’t ridden the CFMoto but it seems to be getting good reviews. Also, I didn’t realise that about the air filter change. It does seem like a bit of a mucking about… but for the cost I think there has to be some compromises
Hi from india... loved the way the review was split into parts so we could understand better..
A common issue with all the 450's is that the bike sways to the right when you take off your hands from the handle bar.
Royal Enfield is replacing the stem nut under warranty for the same reason.
Glad it helped. Didn’t have an issue with it pulling to the right
@BikerTorque - OK. In india, the stem botls are getting replaced under warranty for the same reason. Kind of a silent recall.
Can’t go wrong with a black colour scheme with gold rims.
Probably should have only 3 ride modes. Road, rain and dirt.
If I was looking for an adventure bike today, this probably would have been high on the list.
Top of the list for me. Yep, and love that black and gold
No mention on how difficult or heavy it is to get upright off the side stand?
Or all of you were fine with it?
Pretty sure none of had an issue getting it off the side stand
Looking forward to seeing other versions of the 450 - presumably a scrambler with 19", street bike with 17" and a mini cruiser. A scrambler version with cast wheels/tubeless tyres would be my choice....might just persuade me to part with my 411 Scram.
Not sure about a cruiser, but can definitely see a Street bike and a Scrambler, cracking engine.
To me the Himalayan 450 looks butt ugly & lacks the charm of the original model. I'm not a fan of ADV bike styling at all, but at least the Himalayan 411 had nice clean lines to go with the vintage look. The Himalayan 450 looks like it's just been cobbled together with parts from other bikes in comparison.
The engine, on the other hand, looks like a ripper & is the most important engine RE has made in their history IMO. Let's hope reliability isn't an issue & they do a much better job on the scrambler styling than they did on the Himalayan 450.
Totally agree with you on the engine, but sorry can’t agree on the styling. To me the design and styling looks purposeful, I’m also not generally a fan of ADV bike styling, but this one, not ashamed to say I really do like.
I thought it was very good after test riding it. In my opinion, the gear box was very good and had no issues changing gears. That said, I thought the CFMoto450 felt more spirited and looks more like an adventure bike.
Haven’t ridden the CFMoto yet but will have to soon as everyone seems to be raving about it. Thanks for watching
So I test rode the 450 in the black and put my order in, but I wanted tubeless tyres because they are probably easier to fix, if you are concerned about rupturing a tyre, you could always carry some tubes.
I was disappointed to find that they are not providing the black tubeless version with the gold wheels yet, so I changed my order to the white one. It should be arriving within the next week so looking forward to getting out on it. Main issue is the lean on the side stand but I am sure some adaption can be made to overcome that.
This will be a 2nd bike, I already have a speedmaster chrome, just need to decide when to tell the missus 😬
Probably easier to apologise than asked permission. The Black version does look the goods, but good choice on the white tubeless option. Enjoy, I had such a blast riding it.
same here. 2nd all year bike. my harley for the pub-rides
Split tube steel frame is easy to fix. It’s a global market, but the bike is still made for India.
The 411 handles really well considering the huge front hoop. So I’d imagine the upgraded bike with significantly better suspension will be better.
Hmmm. Should I sell the Tiger???? 😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, yes you should. Stef, you know I liked the old Himi, but the new one is next level. Thinking of selling the Meteor and buying one
Great overview. Not double the torque btw - old Himi has 32 nm.
Yes, I think we got a bit excited. It does feel like double the torque though
Sales tell the story, it selling very well
100%
Looks the part has the goodies I like it mate
Yeah, I loved it also, definitely worth a test ride
@@BikerTorque got the sidecar bolted to xt last night test this arvo got it sitting even and square too see how it handles im guessing evil and terrible hehe
@@tazyt3388 evil and terrible, but probably extremely grin inducing. Can’t wait to see a video of it up and running
Ahh just did a quick lap didn’t film it my god weird doesn’t even come close laugh and poo hehe
The gear lever thing. I notice you removed the rubber from the pegs. If you do that, you need to adjust the angle of the lever on the splined shaft.
The press bike we received didn’t have the rubber inserts, I assume the previous reviewer removed them, but yet, easy enough to adjust the angle of the lever.
You guys didn’t face any vibration related issues? Or is it bearable?
Didn’t have any issues with vibrations at all
Can you guys review CFMoto 450MT? I was gonna get this new RE but will probably get the CFMoto instead.
Shall see if we can chat with CF Moto
Think you guys got a bike that someone had moved the gear lever. I test rode it and had no problem with the gear lever
You could be right, as we said though, easy to pop off and adjust
Reminds me of an old xt
Yes, it does have a bit of an XT vibe going on.
Sorry, the 450 doesn't have double the torque of the 411, it has 40Nm up from the 411's 32Nm. Definitely more but not 2x. Alao I don't get the complaint about mirrors, I'm 6'2 so I assume I'm bigger than Tegan and I've never had a bike where i couldn't see behind myself.
True, my bad. I think our issue with RE mirrors is they keep coming loose because we all set them differently
Lock tight will fix that issue im sure
🤗🙏
👍
I never buy new either. I bought a 2001 BMW F650Gs, a much better bike, for $2000 US. !!!
Haven’t ridden the F650, but have ridden the F800 and must admit wasn’t really a fan, found it really top heavy.
It’s is lighter but only by 3 kg
6.61 pounds in 'Merica..fuck yeah !
lol, 3 kgs is 3 kgs
Don’t like ride by wire cont fix it in the bush your stuffed ,they should go back to cable cheaper to produce as well
But aren’t most adventure bikes now ride by wire?
I saw a video from India today and he showed where the frame broke on the 450 himalian what’s going on there or was the video a fake I don’t know that should be investigated ,if it’s true this is dangerous at 100ks
It's fake I think. The uploaded removed the original video and the frame looks like it's cut.
I don't think the chasis break is a issue, because a lot of users are pushing these bikes here in India and they are fine. Could be something wrong with a particular model, if it did happen.
It's not a problem as of now.
The riders had installed aftermarket crash guards and had not put a couple of bolts back in or were not torqued well. Many have thrashed these in enduro sections and have not had issues.
I seriously doubt it’s an issue, I seen videos of these being ridden very hard, and based on the press bike we had the frame is solid
Ima retired USA welder. You have to have real welders, not just some jackoff. A good weld is stronger than the surrounding tube. They must have some jacoff doing it.
But will it cruise at 130 kph/75 mph all day? You often have to ride high speed roads to get to the slower speed dirt roads and highways.
If you really need to cruise all day at 130 kph this is not the bike for you. It will do that speed but I can’t think of any worse riding than all day at 130 on a freeway.
@@BikerTorque True, at least on a bike of this size. I should have worded that better. It's not uncommon to travel on Freeways here in the USA for a couple of hours between trails, backroads, and dirt roads. I was merely curious if this bike is capable without hurting the engine. Off road bikes in general are not built for comfort on the road (obviously). I still haven't heard when this model will be available in the USA if ever. I think a lot of people would be drawn to it for various reasons. It does look more dirt/trail friendly than the 411 model.
Those front bar guards are HORRIBLE
Who did design it?
I reckon they looks quite purposeful
The “A” is not silent in Himalayas, neither is it silent in Himalayan.
Depends who you ask😂
@@BikerTorque Naah. Any such dependence is a propagated myth. Indian languages are phonetic, meaning there is no difference between the written and pronounced versions of nouns, common or proper.
However, a brand may have it's own pronunciation....something to think about.
I can confirm Ross' pronunciation is 👌
I'll pronounce it anyway I please , do something aboot it 😏.
@@praveenbec Too bad the name is Tibetan .
this review was very ageist , do not like that (just my opinion ). Love my int 650 , adore my Hunter 350 , and soon i will testride the new Himalayan ( but i think i am already sold , love the looks !!)
I agree, Tegan and Lukas were terribly rude, might turn down my hearing aid next time I have to do a video with them, lol. The new Himalayan will definitely be a great addition to your collection. Thanks for watching
Where did you get nine grand?
Intro price in Australia when we recorded this was $8990.
@@BikerTorque thank you. I didn’t realize you were in Australia. Hopefully it will be a little less in US dollars.
