    I just bought a 2025 Himalayan in the same color as this. They are still pretty hard to get here in the US. Dealership told me that I am the first one to get one in my state. Very excited to get out on the road and feel the wind on my face. It's been 25 years since I've had a bike, and I think this is a good bike for getting back into the lifestyle. Great review, sir.

      @michaelmam No doubt about that .I plan on staying very cautious and close to home for a while. I grew up in the bike culture and have seen some pretty bad ones. I know I have to get my "sea legs" back, especially since I have issues with one of my legs. Thanks for your response, and keep rolling man.

    Thank you, Michael. Your ability to find qualities you like in each bike you test is admirable.
    When I lived 220 miles south of here in the SF Bay Area, there were destinations like your coffee shops. Up here in the Way North State, there is nothing that I have found, so I am jealous.

    • @michaelmam
      @michaelmam  6 месяцев назад +2

      Yes . I am very lucky to have such good coffee stops in my riding area !
      I actually try and review the bikes with the question “ what were the designers trying to do here and have they achieved it? “ rather than a simple “do I like it” . It helps me respect the bikes for what they are 👍

    And then comes the Gorilla 450. The Himalayan is more my style, but for those who prefer a roadster style bike, the Gorilla is very appealing. It has the same engine as the Himalayan, but is built purely for the road, and appears to carve up the twisties with aplomb. It comes in some fantastic paint schemes as well.
    This was the best review I have watched so far, on the Himalayan 450. Very good job.
    I rode for several years in my early 20s, on bikes ranging from a Honda CB350 to a Suzuki GS750 former police bike. Now, at age 59, I am looking to get back into riding. It is good to see people of my age, or older who are still avid riders, or even just picking up the sport.

That bike was simple, capable and fun and I have happy memories of my time riding that machine. That's a coincidence, I've just returned from the RE dealer in Salisbury (Hayball) who kindly let me test ride their new Himy. Generally, I'm not a fan of 'adventure style' bikes but, for some reason, I really like the look of this machine (especially in black and gold) and the fact that it has a biggish, good looking, single cylinder engine ..... so thought I'd check out how it rides. I was only out for an hour so didn't fully master all the screen functions but I really enjoyed the bike itself. I would agree with virtually everything you've said and was very surprised at the long legged punch from that 450 single cylinder and the bike's ergonomics suited me perfectly. It's certainly given me food for thought 😁 I bought the Hntr 350 last year and it's a brilliant little machine ..... reminds me of my days on a BSA B40 (350 single) and the same 20 BHP. Thanks again for the video, all the best, Phil.

      @TobotronPrime 6 месяцев назад +3

      I also tried the bike out at Hayball recently - its on the tall side for me but still fully rideable; I really liked the gearbox and fly-by-wire throttle, and it will pull in any gear so long as you give it enough gas. It felt really confident on the road and glided over the bumps "slightly" off road; I wouldn't trust the stock tyres in the soft wet mud though, they work but aren't confidence inspiring.
      The screen was actually ok, I see RE do a taller screen now which would be good for longer rides on the tarmac.
      Hopefully il get one next year for my big trip!

    That short side stand could be a blessing on offroad on very uneven ground, sometimes with a normal side stand you wouldn't be able to put it down while sitting on the bike plus putting the bike too much in the upright position, onroad though could be an annoyance when the motorcycle is a bit on the heavy side.

    It is - the best RE quality - the best versatile - not the best for everyone. If motorcycles were about commuting anywhere except extremely difficult to reach remote sites, then it’s a top choice.
    Motorcycling for me isn’t about bread and butter or compliance and therefore, no, it isn’t at all the best RE. I’d go more purpose driven for a 650interstate, or a 350classic. But before that I’d chose different bikes, like the W800, the z900RS, the MG v85TT, a R1300GSA (to come), or just plainly what I have, a Velocette Venom Clubman MK2, still running fine. No need to race and still able to do so.

    My trip showed 99.9 mpg running in for first 300miles(over 100mpg?) and the 4000rpm limit. After now 'down' to 99.3 overall and 96 mpg since first service with the next part of break-in procedure of 6000rpm until around 1200miles. Always used E5 99octane Vpower Shell fuel rather then any E10/lower rated fuel with normal power setting, never used Eco and expect it will settle around 90 miles per gallon in uk/imperial once fully run-in. Bike was ordered 12 months ago but did take until august this year for the tubeless tyre variants to arrive but well worth the wait. Engine does get better with more miles covered and gearbox/brakes/suspension/handling/construction have exceded my expectations

      I actually raced a couple of 4 stroke singles off road . The XR 400 ( which shows how long ago we are talking😂) could numb your hands in 10 minutes . So this Himalayan compete with the CFmoto 450 MT that seems very good offroad, or even the CRF300L from Honda. I have to test these 2 bikes before making a choice. I think, it looks fantastic in slate with the blue or orange accents. And a full metal tank on an adventure bike of this size is a killer selling point.

      I like all of the bikes you mention but sadly none of them would get through European emission regulations today . Very different world .
      I like the new 450 on its own merits but respect that it is not everyone’s type of bike 👍 Thanks for taking the time to comment ..

    The Royal Enfield is surely a very expensive bike, compared to most Japanese offerings.
    The whole idea with buying an Indian-made Royal Enfield, was to buy a reasonably well-built bike at an affordable price.
    This bike is low-quality at an expensive price, I think.

    I like your slightly different idea for a story about this motorcycle.
    It would be a nice machine, but its workmanship is so... Indian. It's so... basic. A good idea for bad Indian roads and wilderness, but in Europe there will be few motorcyclists who will ever go off the asphalt. The 450cc is sufficient off-road but on the road it will hurt. And it's not even about speed, but about constantly changing gears.
    I drove it and it was great off-road fun, but I didn't like the fact that any car could overtake me from the traffic lights and that I couldn't avoid any dangerous situation by running away. It's impossible with this motorcycle. To be clear; I do not like 900cc or more motorcycles. This is stupid. But 450cc is just not enough.
    If you really drive off-road, if you like to roll on back roads... often in terrible condition. If you don't care what this bike looks like or you like this style (🙂). If you feel uncomfortable on other motorcycles and you need something to commute a few kilometers to work. This is the motorcycle for you. It will be a good choice (only change the oil every 6,000 km). But if, like the vast majority of motorcyclists, you ride on asphalt roads, you shouldn't buy it.

      In my experience ALL Royal Enfield’s are “Indian” . They sell 920,000 a year and the best selling model is the 350 single . The existing/ outgoing Himalayan is quite popular in the UK , which suggests to me that lower power bikes do sell to mature , asphalt based markets. 🤔
      Whether the new 450 captures favour remains to be seen but if it doesn’t , it is I suspect, unlikely to be because it doesn’t have enough power ..
      Personally I am unlikely to buy either model but if I did , it would be the new one …

      @@michaelmam the current 450 does 140kmph all day on the highway, and I mean 1000+km days, tested in Europe on German highways

    • @BlackHawkTejas
      @BlackHawkTejas 4 месяца назад +7

      That's your personal opinion & In my view a very short sighted & ignorant one! This bike is cruising between 100-120 kmph, on the highway easily, with 20-30 kmph more on the tank to overtake!
      I don't know about you but for 95% people it's more than enough.
      And there is nothing wrong in Indian craftsmanship, if that had been the case then KTM, BMW, Royal Enfield & now Aprilia RS457 wouldn't be having a strong following & fan base.
