I was never a RE fan but the 450 Himalayan is a fantastic motorcycle that I want to buy right now and can't get. Completely sold out in Austria and endless pre-orders
Maybe you should wait. It’s prudent to avoid the Mark 1 version of anything. Any problems should be addressed in the Mk2 version. (Remember the Mk1 Himalayan 411 with the weak frame at the headstock?)
Well, it gves a lot of fun when off-road. But on paved road the engine is so weak (not 'speed' but no engine flexibility - u change gear every second), dashboard is so primitive, the workmanship is asian and ... u have to change oil each 6000km. Almost there
Paint, finishings and build look made to last and seems to hit the sweet spot in terms of price (ownership and running costs), practicality and performance. What a bike.
Engine and info/nav display are winners. I expect they will appear in road versions. Big 👍 to RE for offering bikes with a centre stand as standard. I hope to see bikes with a rear DTRL red light bar above the number plate for added visibility.
I bought one of these a couple of months ago as my second bike, it is increasingly becoming my first bike. I didn’t have high expectations when I bought it, I just wanted a small bike to run about town. But with every ride I become more impressed with this machine. I love it!
Impressive I’m sure RE will sell boatloads reasonably priced too. I can definitely see some Triumph influence likely due to RE having poached a designer or two from them. Good to see decent mudguards front and rear other manufacturers please take note. The dash looks great and they even have the tachometer and speedo the correct way round unlike Triumphs 400. Thanks Mark good overall review 👍
That is what you call a review. Absolutely brilliant Ive watvhed a ton of reviews on this bike & yours is head n Shoulders above any other on RUclips . Well done
Ive been waiting for your review of this Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Mark. Such a great practical motorcycle with style. Lovely build quality and the paint work and welds look great and I,m certain that Royal Enfield would have been rigorous with their R&D and "in the field " real world testing before bringing this massively updated Himalayan 450 to the Showroom floor. It looks finished and complete in so many ways.
Great review. I think it's gona be another Great success for RE.. and most likely my next bike.... iam gonna leave it for a year just to see if any thing pop up .. recalls etc. 👍
Really liking the effective simplicity of the dashboard layout design. Everything is clearly legible at a glance. Take note, Triumph with your dog's dinner of a display on the current Street Triple 765 RS!
I was never a fan of the bike Itchy Bits rode as it always seemed too boxy/angular to me. This however is a vast improvement, and assuming its power output is sufficient for your needs it's hard to see why you wouldn't consider this machine. I like it.
RE seems to genuinely listen to bikers and do their best to deliver what we want. And for every new bike they strive to better quality and finish. This one should fly off the shelves at the dealers,. Good review, you covered the essentials.
5years ago I bought my 1st cfmoto 650mt before and after pandemic I clocked 42,000 kms on it did twice loop ride in my whole country and 3 endurance race in it each endurance covers 1800kms for 24 hrs to finish. I don't think cfmoto is for wannabes rider ✌️
Thanks from Minnesota, USA. Excellent review! I appreciate you mentioning your height as I am a taller rider and I was curious about the fit. As a GoldStar owner i love a single engine and this new Enfield really ticks all the boxes and doesn't it look great in the black colour. In my eye's a much better bike than the Triumph. You forgot to mention it has a seriously decent front mudguard as all bikes should have but so few actually do.
A very thorough and accurate review Mark. Nice job. I rode the demo bike at Bob Minions in Derby last week and simply loved it. I think it's going to be a big hit for Royal Enfield.

This is the RE single cylinder motor they should have brought out 4 year ago... Love this bike!!. RE have always been lacking on top end, 70Mph was the let down for me but this looks great and now as the power 💪. I think the small issue is the price.. will the price put people off?, one of RE big selling points was the price, you could get a nice bike for little over 4K. thanks for another great review Mark 👍
Royal Enfield have really stepped up the quality with this bike. I guess its in direct competition with the 400 Triumphs. Another great review as always Mark. Thanks.
It’s not a long stroke like the old one you got to keep the revs up even when you take off ,it’s an all steel no nonsense bike for the prices it’s pretty good bang for buck it’s kind of built like a tank ,
The new himalyan's engine still has a long stroke as far as I know. It is simply more capable of higher and more sustained revs due to the liquid-cooling.
Years ago I rode a single cylinder Suzuki SP 370 trail bike - I suppose you might consider that and the Yamaha XT 500 to be early adventure style bikes. Those 'thumpers' were great fun to ride and this new Himalayan 450 seems to be carrying on a genre where those bikes left a gap. A great review of a bike offering a lot of adventures for the dosh! Cheers.
Cracking little bike , excellent price too. Why power modes with 40 hp beyond belief in my view, but hey ho , modern way I suppose. With the volume of todays traffic, perfect bike in my view. Nice video again Mark.
Most comprehensive review I've seen, thank you. I'm only ten minutes from Verwood and keep thinking I'll bump into you at Alderholt Churchill Arms one Tuesday evening but not seen you there yet Mark ;)
I tried the old brilliant one, liked it but lacked power, if you want to get to somewhere interesting chances are you’ll need to use some motorway unless you want to take half the day just getting there. Great review, liked it up until you got to the rear indicator/brake lights, way too many bikers being hit by other vehicles without them being utterly confused by your weird rear light set up.
I had a kawasaki 650 adv bike for a short moment but I could barely get my leg over it. After lowering the suspension I still didn't feel confident. At 5'8" I think this mid size Himalayan 450 could work for me. I might try it If I can find it here in the states. Nice review. Thanks
Great review. I think they've nailed it. The bike looks great - especially in this black on gold. As a 6 footer (183cms) this bike would fit like a glove. Engine sounds SWEET!! I'd like to know if the speed on this video is in miles or kms though.
Hi Mark, hope all is well. I'm still loving my Himmi 452, it just gets better and better. I'll be selling my Benelli TRK as I'm keen on the new Bear 650. Let's hope you'll get to test one soon, can't wait for it to arrive!

Hey Mark, This was my first choice and is now also available from us. Beautiful motorcycle, looks really nice and has many options in terms of settings on the dash, drives very well. greetings Marc
The only thing I don't like is not having a dedicated rear light. It's what people behind you are looking for not this new weird way of doing things. Cracking review though 👍
Judging by the large amount of encouraging comments, it certainly appears that this bike has been eagerly anticipated, Mark. The reports coming back from testers, including yours, leave no doubts that RE have successfully evolved this bike into something contemporary and desirable when compared to its capable but somewhat uninspiring and rather dull predecessor. Good report as always, Mark.👍
Great review Mark. I cannot see any advantage of this bike over the new Honda 500 Hornet, unless you go off road often. The Honda is a little pricier but so much more accomplished: More comfortable, faster, more economical, much better dash, lighter. I suppose it boils down to personal preference and style.
Since the Kove 800 super adventure claims to have the same weight, I would consider including the 800, also. Obviously, the price would have to be not far from the Himalayan, and CFmoto 450MT.
If you wanna go for weight reduction you can easily remove 25 kgs by removing parts... RE uses very less plastic on the body compared to other brands...
I came down to Poole when the pre production models were there and was quite impressed with the bikes. Tubeless are the models to go for I think. Good value for money. Sitting on the bike I think the weight is well disguised with a fairly low center of gravity. Very good review. Cheers Mark👍👍
You'll definitely need a different mindset...I don't like the cb500x and sold mine. I'm picking the Himalayan up on 2 weeks, but have a new cb500f already. The 450 single has a lot more vibrations than the X that's for sure, but such a more interesting bike to ride with similar performance. We make our choice.
Ah yes, but is it a Kawasaki KLR650 killer??? ;) Can't wait to test ride one of these! I love my Classic 350 but looking for something more capable. My experience with Royal Enfield has been great!
Things are getting very interesting in the smaller adventure bike category with this, the Triumph scrambler, Vogue 525, the coming CFmoto MT450 on the way and an updated Benelli TRK550 apparently on the way, and add the Honda 500 and then the rumoured Kawasaki Versys-X 500 also apparently due as well there will be a lot of choice for off road or road biased choices, and it should all keep prices down with so much competition here and allegedly on the way
Mark, What are your thoughts on position of back brake and gear lever positions? I found them quite tucked in toward the engine for my big boots on the 411? Nice review again.
What's it going to be like for the DIY maintenance guys and gals amongst us, how easy is valve servicing and simple things like filters and oil change. Thanks
Thanks for the review, Mark? On initial impressions it looks good vfm. Build quality looks better, electronics upgrade and water cooled. It’s going to need a test ride for curiosity, if nothing else. It looks a tad overweight. With 2 plus luggage on board I’d be slightly concerned about any long(er) distance work; could be wrong, of course, but a concern. Fine for solo, absolutely. I think the new Chinese CF Moto 450mt could prove very stiff competition; Enfield is well established…..not sure if I could (yet) part with the folding on a Chinese bike. You are a bit naughty, Mark! Why not have a ball and squish through those puddles on the gravel track, cover it in mud and let’s see where the crud gets with the long front mudguard and rear fender (welcome inclusions)!
Tank colour is key to losing the bulbous shape and the black with the re/orange stripe works well in this regard. A 450 Scram would have me signing on the dotted line I think as my Ducati Scrambler is a complex beast with ridiculous ( I mean seriously ridiculous ) dealer servicing costs
Rough road lol, that was smoother than our main highways. Looks good value for money bike, 17" rear 18 would have been a lot better to find off road tyres for it.
Still waiting for the one I ordered at the end of 2023.... took out dealer demo, was surprised at amount of vibration (and that's a characteristic I wanted after selling my Aprilia 660 single, but there's a limit) went home and thought about it a bit, then cancelled my order for the bike.
Thanks for the review Mark. So in the Voge DS525x review one of your replies to a comment was that you thought you may prefer it over the Himalayan 452. Thoughts now?
Very close but yes I'd go for the voge just because of it's much better frontal area...better wind protection....it just suits my style better Cheers mark

Yes it didn't feel that heavy to me and on the move it was great...

Das wird wohl mein Bike. Danke für den Testbericht. Ciao!
Looks like my perfect second bike. ATVB
Love that dash 😎
Excellent review, I think this could definitely be the bike for me.
Looks like a good replacement for my Honda cb500x the test ride will confirm it for me looking forward to it I suspect a delays in delivery
I'll take the 500X
You'll definitely need a different mindset...I don't like the cb500x and sold mine. I'm picking the Himalayan up on 2 weeks, but have a new cb500f already. The 450 single has a lot more vibrations than the X that's for sure, but such a more interesting bike to ride with similar performance. We make our choice.
What a nice bike💥Thanks Mark for your excellent presentation of this ingenuous and modern Himalayan 450 👌
My pleasure I really appreciate that 😊
Be very interesting to see what Tec Parts bring out for this once they've had their magic fingers on it for a little while.
Yes they do some really good parts for the Enfield bikes :)
Yep, and Hitchcocks too!
Another great review - thank you
Ah yes, but is it a Kawasaki KLR650 killer??? ;) Can't wait to test ride one of these! I love my Classic 350 but looking for something more capable. My experience with Royal Enfield has been great!
Hi Jam, may I ask: where does the 350 leave you lacking? I'm thinking about one to ride down through the Balkans to Greece.
Things are getting very interesting in the smaller adventure bike category with this, the Triumph scrambler, Vogue 525, the coming CFmoto MT450 on the way and an updated Benelli TRK550 apparently on the way, and add the Honda 500 and then the rumoured Kawasaki Versys-X 500 also apparently due as well there will be a lot of choice for off road or road biased choices, and it should all keep prices down with so much competition here and allegedly on the way
Yes Andy can't wait for the cfmoto 450mt
Cheers mark
Mark, What are your thoughts on position of back brake and gear lever positions? I found them quite tucked in toward the engine for my big boots on the 411? Nice review again.
Hi Martyn... .I didn't notice any problems so I'm guessing it's absolutely fine
Best wishes mark
What's it going to be like for the DIY maintenance guys and gals amongst us, how easy is valve servicing and simple things like filters and oil change.
Thanks
Access to the engine is simple as no fairings to remove
Routine maintenance should be relatively simple on these

Excellent review such a big improvement on the previous model
They finally made it look nice
Change the anti flickering of settings to 50Hz
Excellent review. Great price. Looks fab!! 🏍️
How much different tyres will help in wet rainy weather?
The rear disc looks huge by normal standards 😮
Very Nice Review chief . Certainly very interested in one .
Thanks for the review Mark. So in the Voge DS525x review one of your replies to a comment was that you thought you may prefer it over the Himalayan 452. Thoughts now?
Very close but yes I'd go for the voge just because of it's much better frontal area...better wind protection....it just suits my style better
Cheers mark
i wish they would do a 650 but in the RE himi 411 style :D
