Christel House is a global non-profit organisation that operates eight schools around the world. Our school in Ottery (Cape Town) is the only one in Africa. Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty and to build self-sufficient, contributing members of society. We offer no-fee scholarships to children from some of Cape Town’s poorest communities.
We have over 800 students enrolled from grade RR-12 and the main criteria for entry into the school is a maximum income of R1 500 per household member per month. As part of our holistic 19-year offering, we instill strong character development ethics, complemented by professional health care, nutritious meals, psychosocial counselling, family assistance and College & Careers support (up until five years after graduating).
Through this structured approach, our results are critical year-on-year:
• A 99.5% matric pass rate since inception
A 95% matric pass rate in 2021
• 78% Bachelor's pass in 2021
• 86% of our graduates are gainfully employed, studying or doing both
• 93% cumulative retention rate and 94.6% attendance rate
