I agree with the videos conclusion. Back in college I had a roommate from Korea and we compared our educational experience (prior to college). We both went to public schools however the academic culture seemed MUCH stronger for him. He had school six days a week for ten hours each day on average. And they still had corporal punishment for not completing assignments (he would get hit with his books). I think external factors such as these could explain why Asians tend to do better in academics.
To all our Indian students out there, dont get into such debate, NEVER LOSE THE FOCUS of WHY you are there.. THRIVE and SHINE in what you do there .. help that nation for a few years and then when you are master of what you have learnt, your heart will hear the call of the motherland to come back.

My parents are always pushing me to do my best, sometimes I get fed up with it but I know they're only trying to do what's best for me because they didn't do what they could have when they were like me. I understand people say "they're living their dream through me". Well that's great then, I can make two dreams come true. That's why I think parents are the biggest factor in education because they motivate their kids to do the best and the least we can do is repay them, no?
Same with my parents but it did work at first with me then later it just pissed me off. Although my mom only does it now although I think shes doing it because she wants to yell at someone and it still annoys me. This is why the rest of my family thinks shes crazy both my dad's side and my mother's side.

Stuyvesant College in New York has a zero affirmative action admission board which only looks at SAT / GPA scores and features a tough admission test. Result: 3/4 of the entire student body is made up of East Asians. Asians definitely spend much more time on studying but may be faster learners and they seem to have an affinity for math and science. They are less adept at learning new languages though.
I’m an Asian. I don’t think being a good student should be a goal. I cherish people who loves to learn and capable of achieving amazing things in real life, regardless of race, religion and culture. Stereotyping sucks.
I am a Pilipino teacher, I've taught foreign asians too, and what I've noticed is that asian students does not just learn from school but they also have a lot of academies. Students are very dedicated to study and they have great study discipline as well. This has something to do with their respect to their parents too.
We are more committed because A. Good education has a high standing among us. B. Our parents constantly tell us to strive hard. C. We work even harder because we appreciate and know the blessing to have the opportunity to live or study in the US. or Europe.
My parents tell me to strive hard too, not only Asian's. I studied about 4-5 weeks before my maths exam nearly every day for an 1hr-2hr, and I only improved by 5-10%. I wanted to improve my mark by 15-20%. But I'm at Uni now and got a distinction for economics and a credit for accounting.

Revelling in the process of acquiring knowledge is foreign to North America, but is quite akin to Asia. The quest to make yourself the pride of your parents and your community is a worthy goal and pursuit for Asians. The problem with North America is that North American kids have lost that ideal persuasion. If Trump wants to make America great again he better concentrate on the proper pretext.
I'm an Asian too. I don't know what to do with life, my parents are very strict. They want me to get good grades and be a doctor in the future... Intelligence is the hardest thing to measure especially in today's world, genetic difference makes different kind of people have different abilities. Today Polynesian and Maori people being discriminated. Their ancestors navigated the oceans without using compass way before any other races. They have established great societies and social systems. Today's education system does not teach people wider perspectives but rather being successful contributor of global financial system which harms ecosystem and social balance most. few decades ago traditional farmers being called primitive and uneducated for not adopting "modern" farming techniques such as using chemical fertilizers, GMO seeds. it took decades for scientists to understand the uncountable harmful affects of "modern" farming techniques developed by academic brainiacs. If humanity was able to reach capability of measuring intelligence correctly we wouldn't have wars, depletion of natural resources, Use of barbaric force wouldn't be form of superiority.
comanxrabiotxverrati Most people haven't heard of maths because no one cares about the U.K. People around the world look to the U.S. for standards and benchmarks. Brits and Britain are so yesterday's news.
Indians generally are more talented and hard-working. Hard work comes from the parents role since childhood. They force the students to study hard from a tender age saying that everything depends on doing well in studies. That's what will make your career.
It’s good to teach your children this work ethic young, but not just in academics but other avenues. Like in the arts and sports as well that is how u make the best well rounded kid. For that I am grateful for my parents for pushing me in school, sports, and music.

There is more to the broad success of Asians in STEM fields and academics that can be simply attributed to environment or culture/work ethic. The answer to the age old question of what is more important - nature vs nurture, the answer is you need both to truly succeed. For anyone that has studied engineering, math or other science disciplines, there is a level of intelligence and analytical brain power that is required to understand or master the subject in the same way that many of us will never possess the talent needed be a professional athlete no matter how hard we work. To say otherwise would be doing a disservice to the amazing athletes in the NBA, NFL, Premier League, NHL or MLB. Most of us will never be a competent physicist no matter how hard we try. Maybe they should stop interviewing sociologists, psychologists, educators or politicians who don't want to confront their own prejudices or have the slightest clue about how difficult STEM disciplines are.

Lian Maung well said
It's a combination of genetics, hard work, and a lot of studying.

TruthfromTroy you mean South Korea not Korea
To all our Indian students out there, dont get into such debate, NEVER LOSE THE FOCUS of WHY you are there.. THRIVE and SHINE in what you do there .. help that nation for a few years and then when you are master of what you have learnt, your heart will hear the call of the motherland to come back.
It’s being disciplined and hardworking. Anyone can be “smart”, you just have to work for it.
my parents would always say this to me
"learning is your key to success and dreams"
so I always try hard not to disappoint my parents and study hard always so that my grades won't go down
i am asian. i am dumber than a plank of wood, seriously. stop propagating this idea that asians are innately smarter. made my uni life hell. this was pretty much how every group assignment went. "so... mike... what's the answer/solution?"
"i dont know... arent we solving it together?"
"you dont know how to do it?"
"no more than you."
*awkward silence as they realise they got the "dumb asian".
You say you're dumb but got into college?
Thanks to our Asian parents who will constantly remind you to study your hardest. They value education so much.
because we asians are into japanese anime.. and japanese anime teach us not to give up and have purpose in life.. lol
if you were an asian, then i was Russian. lol.
My parents are always pushing me to do my best, sometimes I get fed up with it but I know they're only trying to do what's best for me because they didn't do what they could have when they were like me. I understand people say "they're living their dream through me". Well that's great then, I can make two dreams come true. That's why I think parents are the biggest factor in education because they motivate their kids to do the best and the least we can do is repay them, no?
right and i feel upset sometimes ,because it looks like a investment :parents are shareholders and kids are company, so we need "repay" them ~~
exactly!
This is bullshit.... It's all about love ... The more you love your parents the more you get to know the purpose of their so much care towards you
“A” is a requirement for Asian parents.
Yes, we are.
My parents tell me I'm stupid in order to make me smart. Not working
Same with my parents but it did work at first with me then later it just pissed me off. Although my mom only does it now although I think shes doing it because she wants to yell at someone and it still annoys me. This is why the rest of my family thinks shes crazy both my dad's side and my mother's side.
I guess all children all different, I didn't do well in school until high school when my parents left me alone
It’s pressure from parents, relatives, Asian coworkers with kids, & instilled thoughts of not wanting to be behind. All the pressure makes us motivated to get ahead.
I mean, my friends are way better and intelligent than me but they just don't study.
That's why i had the highest grade in my class
Can we accept the fact that they work harder, and study more, and education means more to them
Just cuz we score higher in an exam doesn’t mean we are smarter.
merph1 the reason why they score higher is cuz they are pushed to do good from a younger age
Yes it does
No we are just hardworking
Nothing can replace hard work ... if in doubt, visit Singapore or Shanghai.
Bobby Chang This title is racist. We know Asians are not smarter but just the same as all other ethnic groups.. If they were smarter they would not need to buy a tutor and study longer hours. To add, the Asian universities would be ahead of the western ones and therefore no need to study in the USA..Asians, for the most part, just focus more on academics. Some may argue their life rotates around academics and nothing else..More important, most that came to the USA are well educated and wealthier, which can be misleading.. This is real important. For some Asians they also practice abortion; that said, eliminating unwanted and perhaps problematic low functioning offsprings. This all contributes to the data.

The short answer: Yes!
I bet there are quite a few South Asians in that group also, Indians.
A lot of pressure from parent to study long hours and memorize text book daily, not that we are smarter.
Sid sriram featuring in this video is now a famous playback singer in South Indian movies for 3-4 yrs now.
I’m an Asian. I don’t think being a good student should be a goal. I cherish people who loves to learn and capable of achieving amazing things in real life, regardless of race, religion and culture. Stereotyping sucks.

agree with you
I am asian too
my filipino parents dont really care about grades but I want to make them be proud of my academics since they raised and brought me to america
I am a Pilipino teacher, I've taught foreign asians too, and what I've noticed is that asian students does not just learn from school but they also have a lot of academies. Students are very dedicated to study and they have great study discipline as well. This has something to do with their respect to their parents too.
It's because we're Asians, not Bsians.
lol
Oiiiii
We are more committed because
I heard a lot of Asian parents say that B=bad, lol, don't complain, just do your best.
Not that many Asians in Europe outside of UK
More discipline, dedication and resources = better results. No one can deny this. Culture is the mold.

But Asian students fail miserably when they are asked to flip Burgers.
Now all I think about is graduate college or university and then I don't know what to do next. I love arts, but my parents doesn't like it. I have no hopes for my future. Doing the things I don't like for the rest of my life
Maybe you could get a good job that pays well... and then have hobbies as art... or maybe thats still too much...either way, you have one shot at life... might as well be happy
@@Vantercide thank you so much for your advice... Yes I totally agree with you!
Asians should also be hired into management if you want your business to be successful too.

I think it has to do with their parents pushing them so they feel forced
It’s good to teach your children this work ethic young, but not just in academics but other avenues. Like in the arts and sports as well that is how u make the best well rounded kid. For that I am grateful for my parents for pushing me in school, sports, and music.

Why are all the comments so long
The answer is obviously yes.. It's mostly because of the Asian culture where Discipline, Respect and Success are core concepts.
the answer is that its all due to selective immigration
I think one of the reasons why.... is that we r just competitive.
Most Asian students work harder than others. Their family are willingly to sacrifice money and time to support their education because they know how important education is.
I am an Indian and I am studying at KOTA preparing myself for software engineering you people should visit KOTA students here can do calculus without using calculator or Pen Paper

If the Chinese were mear muggers, perhaps some explanation should be given as to why China & the Chinese in Western countries like the USA and Australia despite their small population come up top in international competitions like:
1) International Mathematical Olympiad
2) International Biology Olympiad
3) International Chemistry Olympiad
4) International Physics Olympiad
5) International Olympiad in Informatics
6) PISA & TIMSS
I feel as if I'm the only Asian who loves history, chemistry, biology, language, and art together.
Maybe they should stop interviewing sociologists, psychologists, educators or politicians who don't want to confront their own prejudices or have the slightest clue about how difficult STEM disciplines are.
yes thats true because of our upbringing ,hardwork and culture
