@Black Sand If you've not heard, arrests ARE being made, they are doing it after the fact but they have to sift through the video footage and selfie photos and there are a LOT of them, some have already lost their jobs if not arrested as well for this. Sadly, doing it after the fact means it can take a few days to arrest them all.
@Black Sand You are still missing the point, many of the Capitol police WERE implicit in this as well, hence the seemingly letting 'em in because the instructions heard, not from trump, but by others repeating, not to do harm. Trump is implicit in this as well as others. White supremacy has even infiltrated the police departments, and hence the delay to bring in the National Guard etc. NOW we have to make the arrests AFTER the fact. @@Astrobrant2 Well the Capitol Hill Police were repeatedly offered Federal Assistance from The FBI,NSA and even the Pentagon, but they STRANGELY rejected it, and said they have got things covered. I am saying the chain of command of the Capitol Police could be "Trump Sympathisers" this happened even in Britain in the 1930s whereby we had Nazi Sympathisers in the echelons of society and they were exposed.

Their goal was to overthrow democracy and install Trump as a dictator. They declared war on the USA, our government, and the constitution.
The police are >90% Trump cultists. I think officers refusing duty or calling out was a bigger problem, but some actively helped. It's not a security failure if security isn't the goal. If ISIS shows up in MAGA hats the police will probably help them bring down the government.
This was a dry run for the inauguration, as they say they will be back with their guns.

There were numerous off duty police officers involved in this insurrection.
Also a lot of veterans and current members of the military. III%, Oathkeepers, KKK and other right wing terror groups recruit and infiltrate the military and law enforcement.
When we catch and convict them we need to give them Dishonorable Discharges and prison time for violating their oaths to the Constitution. If they are retired they should lose their pensions at a minimum; if they are cops they need to lose their law enforcement credentials and do some prison time.

What doesn't make sense is that when Vietnam vets descended on DC in Dewey Canyon II in '72 there were 6 ft fences around the Capitol to keep vets away. Why weren't those same precautions taken Wednesday.

Hotels, law firms, businesses near the Capitol closed in advance in anticipation of violence and chaos. They told their employees & clients they would not be open that day. Why weren't the Capitol Police as cautious and accept offers of assistance?

The American people and the US government needs to take it seriously when an important and respected military leader involved in cleaning up the mess of the DC insurrection makes an accusation of complicity, incompetence, and dereliction of duty against the command structure of Capitol police. Interestiingly, it's reported that, "Pence had requested the national guard while Trump dragged his feet."
But that still leaves ultimate responsibility with the Capitol police chief and sergeant at arms who refused help from the DC police, national guard, FBI, DC prison guards, etc. On top of that, they didn't prepare for the attack that was known about in advance, as the FBI warned Capitol police about it. They didn't have riot gear like gas masks and part of the force was off duty at the time. Then when officers tried to contact their superiors, no one would answer their phones.
Then again, Trump also would have received an intelligence briefing where the FBI knew that it was planned in advance to attack the Capitol buiilding with death threats having been made. No matter what the Capitol police leaders chose to do, Trump's authority was above theirs and so he could have called in for reinforcement without their agreement, as Pence attempted. It was known that reinforcement was needed. Not only did Trump not prevent the insurrection but, instead, went down to give a speech to the very people who the FBI had to have warned him were intending violence.
They were undermanned and underequiped, this falls squarely on the DOJ who knew the threat
All evidence demonstrates Capital Police were initially extremely lazy towards preventing rioters from roaming at will within the building. Because of obvious evidence displayed warrants strident actions taken towards those are responsible be held accountable. Rock on!

Structuring a central police command needs to be a top priority for D.C. Something more potentially threatening than the terrorist acts we saw Wednesday could be looming and we need a faster acting response from military and police agencies, especially if worse threats are more likely or possible. I agree with Ret. Lt. General Russell that those at the top of Capitol police/security may have been complicit with the insurrection and there needs to be a formal investigation. Because how could such gross incompetence be possible in what should be the most highly secured city in the nation?
The whole debacle shows inherent incompetence on both sides. This was not a well organized or well run attack on the Capitol, whatever the fanciful rhetoric beforehand. Neither was the response from the authorities anything but incompetent and embarrassing. So much for American exceptionalism.

Whats ironic is that now they need authorization but what about when the protesters were protesting peacefully a few blocks from the capital....they were tear gassed and met with all types of force.
