One of the most memorable intros of any Sonic game! I couldn't resist trying out my new 3D stop-motion technique on this beauty. This was animated frame by frame using an original technique that I have spent almost 3 years trying to make possible. I hope this video serves as a homage to one of the best video game intros from my childhood. Plenty more where this came from!

I know right! I always enjoy creating vids like this because they bridge that gap between 2D and 3D so effectively. It's that grey area that nobody really explores often.

I've spent almost 3 years trying to figure out how to achieve this 3D stop-motion effect. It's a frame by frame process and i'm proud to show it off. Your support means the world as always! Track composed by me. Watch in full HD for best results.
That works for me. In fact, I was already going to comment that I like the Sonic Mania sprite best of any, and I like the Sonic 1, 2, and CD sprites MUCH more than the Sonic 3 & K sprite for Sonic (which looks more like a plush doll that doesn't have an attitude). To me, that is how it should have looked originally in Sonic 3, so you improved the scene. You therefore fixed some of the Sonic 3 intro...but there was always one more thing that always irked me, way back since 1994...and that is the fact that Knuckles could hit Sonic out of his Super Sonic state. In that one second, it not only undermined the whole idea of Super Sonic, but also established this newcomer Knuckles as a superior character. (Now, we are getting into the psychiatrist's couch, and bringing up two of the multiple reasons why Sonic 3 & K always turned me off, and I never liked it as much as 1, 2, and CD...although it was still among the top 10% of my favorite Genesis games). Now, I will not ask for an alternative ending or anything, even though that would serve to restore my entire childhood back to me... But if there were ever a "Version 2" or "Alternative Ending" of this video released in which Knuckles tried to hit Sonic, but instead got spun around like a signpost as Super Sonic and then Tails proceeded to pass by, I would certainly not mind. 😉

When I was animating it I couldn't help but wonder how on earth he knocks sonic out of Super Sonic state. It also eluded me where exactly knuckles popped out of in the ground.

This was what the saturn could have been, it was very well suited for 2.5D style games with vibrant colors and sprite animations. Shame everything was about full 3D during that era. If the saturn came instead of CD, Sega probably would have won the console wars for a good while i think.

Could you imagine if Sonic 3 actually LAUNCHED with JUST the intro in "Sudo 3D" like this, but reverted to its normal 2D State for the Knuckles encouter, man, that would have been hot.

Brilliant stuff! Your hard work really shows! In particular, I love Angel Island coming into view in 3D parallax. I always watch (and listen to!) your work multiple times to get as much as I can out of them, enjoy them again, and to see the skill and hard work that went in to creating these! Another comment from you always brightens my day. The parallax was really difficult to achieve because I had to create the whole level-set as one continuous strip. Once again, thanks so much for taking the time to appreciate my work so much. It's really flattering.

It’s crazy how you can turn the second dimension into the third dimension
As someone who does 3D modelling and animation, this is pretty good. might I ask, how did you make the 2D sprites into 3D?
I'm traditionally a 2d animator and composer, with a lot of experience in 3D, but not 3D animation so much. This effect was achieved using a technique that have spent 3 years figuring out. It's basically animated frame by frame, like traditional animation, where i move each set piece and the camera little by little. There are times that I've used keyframing to give the camera a track, but all of the sprit frames are unique still. Have you seen any of my other videos? I use this 2D to 3D technique a lot in my videos and it's something i do need to guard (at least in a public forum like this) since I'm the only person making videos like this. Appreciate your interest a lot Ash!

Hey Sufyaan, thanks for stopping by! I create and compose all of the music on my channel. The knuckles remix doesn't have an official name, it's just a small snippet I created for the video. But stay tuned because I'm working on another sonic 3 video and it'll feature knuckles music

I'm glad you like it! I only wrote this much of the music I'm afraid. I composed it directly for the video. So the rest of the track is yet to be written.

This looks really good, but why use Mania’s character sprites? It just doesn’t look right
It was a creative choice, this is a re imagining. I've changed little things as you can see and added environments such as angel island as you approach it in the distance. Sonic mania sprites appear in angel island intro for Sonic Mania itself. I just enjoy working with that sprite set more. Sonic 3 videos are on the horizon, and do however feature sonic 3 sprites.
I don’t like the remix. The original would be fine (THIS ISNT A HATE COMMENT DONT DISLIKE CAUSE YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION, NOBODY CARES ABOUT MINE OR YOUR OPINION, FOCUS ON YOUR OPINION NOT MINE)
