- Here's a short instructional video on kite fishing. Kite fishing can be used for a variety of inshore & offshore species. In this video we will go in depth into how to rig baits, terminal tackle etc. If you want to skip to the fish catching (mahi and barracuda) it starts around 8:00 : )

Well informed Peter lots of helpful detail you shared specifically when you say what if something hit on the middle line... then later with the specific details regarding bait, leader, hooks and kite height with rationale- outstanding and informative
thanks Jon
VERY VERY GOOD INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO. COVERS EVERYTHING WITH A REASON FOR IT ATTACHED BY THE MAN. great GUY.
Thanks Ed
Good video...couple things to note. Leaving the clicker on once the baits are out there would drive be nuts, also makes it harder to lower the baits in the water. Clips should be checked for correct tension depending on the size of the bait. Too tight and the lines won't release, to loose and you're bring the entire rig in again to reinsert. For any new anglers note how he's using the large baits on the long lines. This helps keep the entire kite line stable especially on very windy days such as this. Another helpful tactic is to have the captain bump the boat forward while letting the kite out. This keeps the baits straight up and down for the most part versus having to drag them out with the kite. Nice vid.
great details Mike. well said
Good video. I love Mahi Mahi!!
Thanks glad you enjoyed it
Great video!!! never fished with a kite b4... this will help!
awesome. thanks
Great video, simple and to the point. 🙌🐟✔
thanks Maxx
Love the video and the willingness to share!!
thanks so much
Peter, you’ve come a long way since this video bruh ! Former YF owner here, we met once at the YF owners tournament, you shared a mullet with me to use for the tarpon you had left over as I was heading out (red bay boat). Anyway fun what pops up surfing RUclips. Outstanding MasterClass video. You wouldn’t want to do a small boat (BayBoat) clinic video incorporating those techniques would ya?? What size Penn Intl reels are those. Cheers
hahaaha i remember that like it was yesterday. Bait was tough lol. I was using penn 16vs reels. sea anchor would be great on the bay boat to keep the nose into the wind. get some electric outlets and youll be set . hope youre well.
Wow! Awesome video, thanks.
Thanks for the tip Peter.
Love your show and have a happy Thanksgiving
jmvmike thanks so much!
thanks very much
thanks so much
I thought of this in my head then I search it up and it was a thing
ahahahah thats awesome! been doing it since 1987. Kite fishing is life :)
FREAKING EPIC.
What make and model reel and pole do you suggest for a new setup for tuna and sailfish. Money is not an object. Ocean fishing from boat. What about line, weights, leaders. I am new to this sport, I know nothing. Want to learn everything I can. Thanks for your help. Also where is the best place to buy or order this equipment from. There is nothing around me to shop
Questions: do you reset the kite each time you get a fish on or just once all three baits have been eaten or are dead? Also, how come with the first bait on the kite, you let it out with the kite but with the second and third, you let the kite take the line a bit first and then hooked on the bait and reeled the slack up?
only reset if we have to chase a fish down or if multiple baits need changing.
500k boat, 10k worth of fishing gear in one of the best fishing spots in the world with 10 hooks in the water and explaining things like it’s rocket science hahaha.
Many thanks for sharing this Peter.
Would the technique excel in areas which are heavily fished/shy fish?
I'd like to try this in Australia sometime.
yes very little leader in the water and you watch the eat for a great drop back.
my pleasure and yes....its very stealth. fresh live bait is best
Good work
How are you guys positioning the boat while drifting? Are you bumping it in gear to keep the kite and baits behind the boat?
bumping slightly into the wind.. in and out of gear
yes exactly. sometimes we crab sideways. we always want to make the best presentation .
why use kite fishing method on a boat?
how useful would an accurate valiant 7 to 1 gear ratio be for this type of fishing its a one speed reel with only 20 lbs drag.
Great tips!
BlacktipH thanks Josh!
thanks Josh!
how do you stop the release clips on the kite line so they stay?
thanks Josh.
@@barrafishing1156 they sit on the floss marks that we custom wrap on the line. if its really windy we will put a rubber band in front of the clip so it doesn't blow up to the kite
Have you tried the Southern California method using an artificial bait when kite fishing? I love the show Bass to bill fish
not yet
thanks no I havent
awesome video!... for every catch you have to get back the kite and start over the process?
thanks. no necessarily . if it bites on long bait, we can send the kite out further and add and extra short clip for the time being, keeping baits in the water for a while longer. We only bring it bring it in if we are moving. Normally have at least 1 bait in the water at all times...but usually 3 :)
@@PeterMillerFishing ohh it makes sense!, Thanks a lot for the comment and the video
The kite clip will release upon sufficient tension, this allows a line to then be reeled in independent of the kite.
baby mahi killer!
Do you leave the first caught Mahi in the water to attract the school in towards the boat?
I would like to try this because I don't have a boat. Can you explain why you do this if you're already far out in the ocean? For me it's about distance, you already have that.
stealth on the ocean can be very important. only a foot of leader in the water. you can see the bait get nervous and watch the strike. you can also reel other baits in the air while the fish you have on...swims through the spread and then you can drop the baits back in when the coast is clear and you may get another bite or 2 that way. its my favorite method and its great from the beach if you have and offshore blow.
Its great if you can launch from shore but when offshore...it basically replicates a school of lively fish with hardly any leader in the water and you can hook up with 6 billfish at one time or any species for that matter. We also use weighted baits to get the lower lever sneaky guys. all the best to you wolfie....thats my sons nickname.
So, are anchored or just drifting?
bumping in and out of gear to keep baits and kits in check and lines taught
How do I tie on the thread mark
Great vid! Question.... Any how to info on the "floss markers?"
thanks. unfortunately, not my area of expertise.
how do you stop the release clips on the kite line so they stay?
use a barrel swivel or we use different size floss marks. hand made
Maybe I missed it... How far in length are the release clips apart?
@@QSSCEO about 50-60 feet apart
Are you in south Florida? If so how do I hire you for private fishing lessons with my husband? No joke he’s obsessed with fishing everyday!
First
woohoo
bein a baitfish aint a good gig
you're not kidding
It defeats the purpose of having a kite when you have a boat. You either use the boat to go to deeper waters, or use the kite from the shore to do it, right? It's too much work and equipment for a mediocre result...
it does work well from land but on some days offshore...the sailfish will only eat surface baits and we've had days with 50 billfish bites. Its a winner and its allowed us to win multiple championships.
Right why not just troll what’s the point of the kite on the boat🤨
How does it defeat the purpose? No leader in the water makes for a great presentation of the bait. And it's not too much gear. If you went out and trolled in that boat all day for a week you would end up spending the same amount of money but just for gas. You also wouldn't catch as many quality fish. Flying a kite is textbook for winning billfish tournaments.
Monster Tuna being caught on Kites on Charter boats... big time!
Im not a fisherman .. why use a kite ?
it allows you to fish 6 baits with hardly andy leader in the water and basically calls the fish to the boat. we've had days with 50 sailfish bites in miami in a single day. its pretty awesome.
@@PeterMillerFishing ..appreciate you taking time to answer
I fish... You lost me at hello
Very evil .why dont u put your self as bait instead of that almost murdered little fish .
