You're awesome. You must have caught a lot of fish conventionally to move on to such an elaborate time consuming yet ancient technique.

Why the little ring onto the release clip instead of running the line through the clip the conventional way? Other than to protect the line?

I got my spars mixed up. Two kites
Are they grouped together based on weight? Does anyone know? Thinking of buying a small digital scale.

I don’t understand what the kite does. It seemed like he might have been explaining it a little bit at 12 minutes in, but I couldn’t quite understand. What benefit does the kite do? Couldn’t you just fish “normally” (the only fishing I’ve done, (small bait) worm/cheese/chunk bait) but with this live bait attached to the hook? The geometry doesn’t quite make sense in my head, but I also don’t see how that gets controlled by the kite.

Unless you’re strictly fishing a sailfish tournament there’s no reason not to fish a sliding float so you can reel down to the fish ! Sailfish events as you know a leader touch is a legal catch but when you’re fun fishing and have to hand line a tuna mahi kingfish or wahoo no thanks

Better yet, blow up a balloon the size of a biscuit or a tad smaller. Put it over the opening of a water bottle. Add whatever amount you need. There's your weight and visual. Better still, when he pops the clip, before you can get tight, the balloon adds drag to keep things tight. We bow run 20lb to 6 foot wire rig. We Add 6 inch mono to top wire rig swivel to tie Ballon to. It pops off. Very effective. No floats or weights on your line during fight. Not needed.

That doesn't look like a kite to me. That shape won't fly like that and this is the reason in the video it's hardly shown flying well.

Electric reels should be banned.not too worried about the one that releases and winds in the kite but I've seen people fishing with them and I'm not a fan of them.

You know I'm sick of catch and release bull shit some anglers might 60 or 70K and they release their fish, why don't these folks find something else to do with their time. I'm sick of all these fishing showing saying it's catch and release I am getting sick of watching those shows. You're making it sinful for an angler to keep their fish, that's like listening to the lies of the politicians. If you don't want to keep your fish find something else to do with your time, you're harming the fish buy not keeping them. You spend 60 or 70k for a boat plus tackle and you release your catch what is wrong with your thinking? That like running a/c with the door open. But if you want fish go to a sea food restaurant that doesn't make sense to me. Hunter kill their prey so why does a fisherman catch and release. the Garrett Edward show is pathetic get that fish back in the water.

Anglers very typically don’t kill sailfish or some trophy Dolphin etc. sailfish mostly people will release because they’re eating fair is none too great, the best you can do with it is smoke it, but you’re gonna have so much meat to smoke which a lot will probably go to waste, and you can get kings or even dolphin or wahoo which are way better smoked. So sailfish are a fun as hell fish to fight with their acrobatics, but not worth much in the way of table fair. Just like a tarpon or bonefish. Generally most anglers will question why a person harvested a sailfish.

Mike, why so salty lol. To use your hunting analogy you might be sitting in your stand and see a couple of younger bucks or females that you let go for another year or for whatever your herd management strategy is, waiting for that big old buck before you make your harvest.
In modern fishing, especially billfish which aren't great eating, we release fish so that their population continues to rebound and we can catch them again, and our kids and grandkids can catch the offspring of the ones we release. Improvements like circle hooks, matching tackle to target species, and keeping fish in the water drastically improve survivability.
FWIW 60-70k isn't even the down payment on that boat, but it might cover the tackle and that YETI bucket ;)
And thank you for your concern but I'll do whatever the heck I want with my free time on my boat.
