I wish this game had HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lanes aka carpool lanes. If you have 2 or more passengers there’s a special direct route to and from major areas of work travel. Usually only active during rush hour times, etc. Also, a lot of places have auxiliary lanes on freeways for high density roads that suffer traffic buildup. Basically just a widening of the road by an extra lane for that specific area of congestion. Lastly (and I know in this game in order to ban certain vehicle types on a certain road you need a mod), Business routes or truck routes. These are specially dedicated exits or routes for business folk going to and from work, truck routes are the same exact concept, except only trucks can take the exit/travel the route. Freeways also often have “truck only” lanes, or “car only” lanes. All of these are really great for traffic flow. That’s the only thing I see lacking in this game (without mods).
Thankfully seniac has the mod, he used it last eppisode to try to fix traffic. He did it WRONG. leave the lane connectors, bit tell people coming onto a round about to wait so that they don't clog the thing up during rush hour.

He uses tm.pe (traffic manager president edition, available in the steam workshop) for the lane conector lines. It has other tools that can be used in fixing traffic issues as well.
It is scaled, and if 1 day ivr = I day irl it would take way to long to build a city. Besides they have the timing the way it is for a reason (probably ease of game play).

When building residential areas, you should leave some dead ends/ cul de sacs, instead of having multiple outlets for every side street.
