They also talk about how it impacts mental health and self-esteem, especially for darker-skinned people, and discuss what communities can do to push back against these harmful ideas. Through a mix of personal stories, cultural insights, and practical advice, this episode brings a thoughtful and important conversation to the table about a topic that’s often ignored but runs deep in society.
Well I don't see a probIem with Lupita being seen as the most beautiful woman. Why can't she be the face? If someone said Beyonce was the face of the most beautiful bIack woman, would there be the same push back? A bIack woman with beautiful dark skin, who embraces her natural hair should be the face. Majority of black women look more like Lupita verses Beyonce. Women like Lupita should be our representation.
Right? Nobody has an issue when it's beyonce, tyra, Halle Berry, aaliyah etc all who are racially ambiguous and have mixture. Just recently a guy told me he liked blk girls and mentioned Tyla as an example... a woman who doesn't look black and is only 1/4 black. Why? Because the "face of black beauty" has been heavily "whitewashed" for yeaaaarsss. Lupita was refreshing. Not only is she actually black but she has her OWN beauty standards. You will never see her reinforcing eurocentric beauty standards by wearing hair textures that isn't her or straightening her hair. Whenever there is a darkskin black beauty there is always some compromise where they eurocentrize a part of themselves either it's their hair or a heavy contored nose etc... Lupita does NONE of that. She is unapologetically NATURAL AND Black
Thank you. The lady doesn't even make any sense.
@@mimiad397exactly! If it was a biracial women I wonder if they would have complained
This whole convo was 🥱 that’s why some dark skin women avoid other dark skin Women, the inferiority complex is crazy. Lupitas body lips skin eye shape etc all look good. That’s why she got I’m the title
@@etherean369 that’s exactly what they want or women from Horn of Africa.🤡
Not everyone can have a podcast lupita is beautiful deal with it
It sounds like you were uncomfortable with natural black beauty. And you didn’t want a natural dark skin woman to be shown in her natural state because it made you feel uncomfortable.
because she’s beautiful!! what do you mean??
Absolutely! You can listen to our full episode on the topic of colourism for more context.
A room of dark skinned black woven questions why another black woman is seen as beautiful 🙃 what’s the issue cause yall are saying a whole bunch of nothing
I’m saying but I’m going to finish the video before I make my final thought. I’m only 2 minutes in and all I’m hearing is blasphemy 😂
Yeah, you would think that being that all three of the are either African or Caribbean who lives in the UK, they would understand why they chose a dark woman. She is supposed to represent Africa. Because she's definitely not the most beautiful in the US. But she is a beautiful woman. IJS
It's sad when dark skin black women are colourist against darker skin black women.
Lupita is actually pretty and beautiful, if Tyla was most beautiful people would not complain. Why a black woman shone needs to be scrutinised so much?
I personally think lupita hype is worth it. Her face is almost perfect. Extremely harmonious and feminine looking. She has the natural features that people were paying for. Small nose, plump round lips etc etc. Not many women across the races have that combo together. period.
Edit: I personally dont think you have to have those features to be beautful but objectively her features fit western beauty standards. It's just melanin with it.
My Dad is Nicaraguan and my Mom is Jamaican. My stepsister is half Haitian / half Jamaican or "full" black and we have vastly different experiences in society. Lupita is a NECESSARY representation in my eyes because media likes to present a "digestible" view of black people to its audience. Growing up in the 90's we had Aunt Viv, we had Moesha, there seemed to be an appreciation for unambiguous dark skin women and then when Halle Berry (love her so no hate here) Hollywood noticed the appeal and I feel like thats when black women who were more ambiguous looking were pushed by media. The majority matters and thats why shows like Abbott Elementary are popular with black women. You have several unambiguous black women on the show and one is the main character essentially. The amount of times my mom used relaxer/s-curl in my hair as a kid was insane. Took me a long time to notice how ingrained anti-blackness can be, particularly when it comes to the features associated with the majority.
Not everyone should to be podcasters 😂😂💔
If a white person says Beyoncé was beautiful y’all wouldn’t hear any “undertone”. Just say you don’t like to be represented by someone that actually looks similar to you and let Lupita shine in peace.
No offense but this ain’t it what’s the point of the question
Put yourself in her shoes and you came across such a video You’re putting another woman down
it’s such a degrading question and I’m sure that’s not your intention.
I feel like Hollywood decided to make her the poster child of black beauty. I am East African and if I saw Lupita before she was famous, I would never look twice at her, nor would a lot of people in my family and we are not colorist. There are so many Stunning dark black women out there but as usual they have decided to go for the average looking black woman and run with it. in Hollywood, it is unfair that the Nia Long, Nicole Beharie, Kerry Washington or the likes of Regina Kings have not had Lupita's exposures and all these ladies are so much prettier than Lupita and I don't think that they have enjoyed a 1/5 of Lupita's coverage on the covers of the magazines. It is the same way they decide in the modelling industry to make the Ugly Black Sudanese models their idea of black beauty whilst STUNNING black south sudanese beauties such as Anok Yai are PLENTY and rarely on the cover of the Vogue Magazine!!! I mean beautiful dark black women- if the truly beautiful were on the cover of magzine....there would be no more space for the Gisele Bunchen and Kate Moss!
@@Athenaforever2308 Anoka Yai is literally a Super Model. I'm East African too and kindly speak for yourself. Also, all the women you've mentioned are LITERAL LEGENDS if you're truly their fans you'll see them all the time!!!
Also, who said this was a pageant 😭
So much about Lupita's appeal is her authenticity and effortless femininity. Please stop.
I understand where you are trying to go with this topic but I don't think the delivery is on point... Also sometimes it's not that deep, Lupita has striking looks so she stands out... she's not average looking.. You've said she's not the most beautiful beautiful and i think your standards of beauty are whitewashed and very commercial oriented
This is the wildest sh*t I ever watched.
im okay with Lupita being the face of beauty. I was getting triggered that we kept having THE SAME WOMEN over and over and over for decades... like I'm in my formidable years...I can't relate to Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Halle Berry, Taraji P Henson, BEYONCE... Kelly Rowland ..was sprinkled in there here and there to break up the monotony... then Joadie Smith came along and I was mesmerized, and Issa Rae... yo... FINALLY more women... it just made it look like there was no space for alot of black women to be beautiful at the same time, and if so, they had the same 4-5 people on rotation and they were getting up there in age... I'm sorry, I said it.
I remember Lupita being in one of those Kenian movies, it was funny and cute... but... omg she blew up. I am SO F*KING proud!
Am I missing something here?
Being that none of you are American, you don't understand why white America made Lupita the face of black women. They did it because Lupita is also not American and she doesn't look like 90% of black American women. It was a total dig at native black Americans.
@@japhya0378 maybe as Americans you need to realize you're not the only Black people on earth?
And in other places...majority of places... biracial people are not labeled black? If this is a dig at you then what about when they put super light-skinned people there??????
If anything many of you push that narrative because you refuse to accept colorism and WORSE: the yt supremacy that forces you to make biracial people or people with yt features and lighter skin...Black.
Also, your argument doesn't make sense:
Yt America likes racially ambiguous people. The only malicious reason they'd push Lupita isn't her appearance...but probably to great further divide among minorities. You want to be respected for your roots but you don't even respect or glorify your so-called roots??? What?
Yeah I am adamant about making distinction between Black and Biracial people, but the division I am talking about is that of "one is better" or "one is superior".
And finally to counter those who may argue that Biracial people are considered Black in America: don't you think there's a reason yt supremacists lump you all together????
I'm not blaming but provoking you to see that this narrative is nothing more than a tool of division. Proper identification matters. A LOT.
@@japhya0378 also, I'm sorry but the only Native people in America are the ETHNIC AMERICANS ie the Native Americans, First Nation People's etc. Stop these colonizer narratives!
We must ALL acknowledge and remember that!!!
@@etherean369 Who is we? When I say Native Black Americans, I am speaking of the descendants of US slaves. They are the only black natives to the United States, because they were here in 1776 at the inception of this nation. Even if they are not native to the land, they are still native to the nation. And that was my point as no one in this video is native to the United States. Some black Americans are also native to the land. My family is Santee, though my Tribal ID is from The Catawba Nation. You are obviously not FBA because you would have known that. So if you want to acknowledge something, acknowledge those facts.
But Joadie Smith tho..... isn't she native Black American? She's the epitome of Black royalty... my God... the Lord is too good to bless us with such beauty.
@@Ebizzill This is not about Jodie Smith. it's about Lupita. And NO, she is not native black American. She is African. Besides, I think Lupita is better looking than Jodie.
