Touching is still beyond impossible but that doesn't matter, they're existing in real-life and not in a screen and that alone is a huge milestone from what it was before.
I’m really impressed that the abbatars didn’t fall into the uncanny valley. They really felt alive and like the younger selves of Björn, Benny, Anni-Frid and Agnetha
I like that it doesn't slip too far into uncanny valley. If I didn't already know about the ABBAtars, you could tell me this is just concert footage from their younger days in higher definition and I'd probably believe it.
Just became aware of this in 2024. It may not be perfect now, but in a few years, this will be amazing. There are so many possibilities and things to talk about. 1. This is a cool way to bring back older artists as they were in their youth with tight, youthful faces and bodies instead of in their senior years. It will be exciting to experience a "real" 20-something Duran Duran rather than a current 60-something Duran Duran. 2. Does this technology and process only work for entertainers who are still alive or can it work for those who are deceased? Since Abba members are still alive, they are able to provide their input for the show. If deceased, they can't contribute and a third-party might not give the best art direction without the actual artist being there. A James Brown concert several decades later wouldn't be the same without the real man or his associates at that time, giving their creative feedback. 3. This type of AI/VR redeux concert might make sense for some older music artists like Abba, Michael Jackson or Frank Sinatra, but not others. Some artists from the past, like punk and hard rock bands such as Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, etc., may have had rowdy, aggressive crowds during their hey-day. So it might be difficult for older fans of the bands to show up at an avatar concert with a bunch of younger fans who start a mosh pit or start getting violent in the crowd. The older fans may have enjoyed the wild aggression and craziness when they were younger, but not now in their middle-age or senior years. 4. For now, it seems this technology is only being used to recreate large theatrical concerts with bright lights and special FX. Once the tech improves, can it be used to simulate smaller concerts that took place in bars, clubs and smaller venues instead of an arena with flashing lights? For many rock fans, some of their best concert experiences were in venues like CBGBs and similar. It would be cool for young and old Bette Midler fans to re-experience her famous 1971 performance at the Continental Baths again. 5. If this technology becomes affordable for the public, people could create their own avatar before their death and then have the avatar show up at their own funeral. 6. Instead of watching movies, we could interact with them. Imagine Rhett Butler sitting on your couch, looking you in the eyes and telling you "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." You could converse with C-3PO or R2D2 from Star Wars or dance along with Fred Astaire. 7. If someone has lost a pet, they could have an avatar of the animal "living" in the house as if they were still alive. You wouldn't be able to touch it, but seeing a realistic-looking version of your deceased "Fluffy" jumping on your sofa might make you happy. If the technology becomes really good, your "reincarnated" pet could shed fur around the house and maybe poop in your slippers... with NO odor. 8. When married couples get older and lose their looks, they could wear a simulation bodysuit and have a younger, more attractive version of themselves projected onto the suit. If you're in your 60s and have been married for over 30 years, you could make love to your spouse who, once again, looks the way he/she did when you first started dating. And the best thing is, you can touch each other. No more facelifts. No more cheating. It may be too soon for these ideas and questions, but this Abba concert gives us an exciting glimpse into the future of possibilities. The Apple Vision Pro is something to be excited about too.
I feel like they wanted to give modern day fans a taste of what they would have seen in the 70's when they were actually on tour! The option to have them with their regular faces is programmed, so it's not like that's not an option.
If you lived it, then this is all about having fun. ABBA was a fun group to listen too. I listened to rock in the 70s in my 20s and ABBA was the group none of my friends would admit listening too, but we all did. It reminds me of the film Tommy Boy when they are on the road trip and a soft song plays on the radio, they look at each other, like should we turn the station...then it pans to them both singing the song at the top of their lungs. Hilarious but so true.
(2 year late response) No. But they know that showing people in their younger years allows them to experience an ABBA performance as if they're still in their hey days. Plus it's a way for them to perform live (and make money) without being there.
It looks like plastic and lacks of detail especially the facial expressions, looks ridiculous - and the hair - Why is it so shiny?! - the skulpting is good but all the rest is just bad - it needs more facial hair - and reduced hair and face glare
I love the fact that they still come back to us even in their 70s! ABBA forever!!!
I'm glad they're keeping this show running until next year, but I was sad when I found out that Abba disbanded last year.

100% i thought it was a remastered old concert! i didn't know it was digital I LOVE IT
An avatar tour? Shouldn't it be called an "ABBAtar" tour?
even shorter ABBAtour
@@Mr_PNW 👍👍
Dudeeeee 😂😂😂😂😂
this is so crazy to watch! so happy that they are back
Far out!.. ABBA is TIMELESS 👍🎶
This looks very real! They're jumped over that valley and climbed up to almost 100% realism on the other side, wow!
It's a great plus when you have the tiny random movements that we do irl captured

I can think of no better use for AI and CGI. It’s about time. Good work, can’t wait to see it! ❤️
The potential for this is extraordinary. Their could be Beatles/Elvis/Jackson etc concerts again. Literally anyone can be bought back using this.
This look they chose, and it’s their best look imo, is 1977 Tour not 1979 as they keep saying.
I think they forgot the years. I agree.
*Que maravilha ABBA* 🎷🎷🎤🎤🎤🎤🥁🥁🥁🎵🎵🎵🎹🎹🎹🎶🎶🎶🎼🎼🎼💦💦🍀🍀🎤🎤🎤🎤❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Uncanny valley hasn't overcome...!
FANTASTIC!!! 😍😍😍😍😍

The death of music
how?
Is there not room for all genres?
Music? No. Physical carbon based artists? A big maybe.
Amazing
as a vfx artist for tv and film it's sad that even after all that money and work they still look doll like and unable to mimic reality
At stage viewing distance you would't know though.
Nice
I think it's kinda sad how they felt the need to make their virtual selves look younger
THats non ya business
That how we know them.
Forever young.
Dawg how
So when you watch a music video of ABBA how did they look??
@ohiunku Good Point
I feel like they wanted to give modern day fans a taste of what they would have seen in the 70's when they were actually on tour! The option to have them with their regular faces is programmed, so it's not like that's not an option.
But why?
Why, whats the point of it?

How old are you? 10? Its like saying why immortalizing Queen, Rolling Stones, The Beatles or Micheal Jackson!
Are they ashamed as to how they look now?
(2 year late response) No. But they know that showing people in their younger years allows them to experience an ABBA performance as if they're still in their hey days. Plus it's a way for them to perform live (and make money) without being there.
Making off with what?
Unreal engine 5
Shrek lass nach !
I don’t care how much money was behind this. This is just sad. Plain and simple.
Ebat там бабла в оборудование вложено 😂😮
It looks like plastic and lacks of detail especially the facial expressions, looks ridiculous - and the hair - Why is it so shiny?! - the skulpting is good but all the rest is just bad - it needs more facial hair - and reduced hair and face glare
They're not even real 😮
