    They are called Bantu Knots :-) A little tip I've learned, fingers cause frizz. So next time after you remove the bobbie pins, use a little hair serum, pomade, or whatever you use to combat frizz; put it on your fingertips and run it down the length of the hair. It will help with frizz control and fly aways. Another thing is if you only separate at the root, instead of separating then brushing, your curls will last longer. Hope these tips help. Be blessed.

      EXACTLY! I'm sick of people saying that's "culture appropriation". It's only culture appropriating if she's wearing it as a fashion statement... If she's just trying to curl her hair it's not that serious... We need to stop making everything into a competition... 2 years ago no one gave af about this, now everyone makes a drama fest out of every little thing 💀

      +ChandlerKnowsBest including you. looking at the previous comments down the page, you R abusing others who don't call it the bantu knot and yet now you R tryna look like a good person by siding with the black girls who R saying 'theyre not stealing our culture etc'. You R not even black. You R mixed and probably neva spent a second in the African culture you R trying 2 claim.

    Leave the poor girl alone, I've been curling my hair like this for the last year or so and had no clue up until now that these were called Bantu Knots and were part of African American culture. She probably didn't know that these were called Bantu Knots either, and it's hardly as if she's mocking black people by making this video.

      cherry noodles Others were complaining about the fact that she said little buns instead of Bantu knots, as they are originally called ,saying that white people stole their hairstyles, but that is just simply incorrect. I am not white nor is she. White people do not have the power to say "you stole our hairstyles, because you wear a weave/wig/clip ons, trying to have straight hair like mine! " however they don't because it's obnoxious,not logical, and most importantly, false. No face created anything, people need to stop with this foolery.

      Omg THANK YOUUU. My thoughts exactly! I know people are angry due to injustices surrounding race, and crooked ass cops doing the horrendous shit they do, and shit, probably even just living life in america from thru the lense a black persons perspective. I can completely get on board with anyone being pissed off for any of those kind of reasons. Genuine unjustices being commited against human beings in general pisses me off too! I get that some people are really angry, but this isnt the place for that i dont think. And lingering anger against someone who did you wrong before, does NOT make every white person a racist. This video is NOT a good example of cultural appropriation imo. This girl just thought she found a great way to make her straight hair curly over night. She probably had no idea bantu knots were even a thing. And thats not something people should be prosecuting her for. I reallly dont think she posted this vid with any kind of maliscious intent! People need to chill the fuck out and quit making EVERYTHING about RACE! Im soo sick of everybody feeling like they need to walk on eggshells just to avoiding offending the next hyper sensitive group of the week, and getting metaphorically chased off a cliff by a bunch of crazy people with torches! People need to pull up their big girl panties, grow a thick skin and maybe try putting some effort into worrying about the many actually IMPORTANT issues at hand today! Dont be creating unnessesary conflict where there dosent need to be any! Shit..smh.

  • @Lady1Sweet

    LOL @ everybody getting mad because people are pointing out (one of) it's proper name and origin. Don't understand why everyone is so mad...
    They're called Bantu Knots.
    They're originally African.
    That's not racist, it does matter. If she were to do a Dutch braid and call it something else, everybody would be telling her it's called a Dutch braid. It has nothing to do with being black.
    Nobody is claiming that she claimed it as her own. Nobody is saying she stole it.
    The hairstyle came out really nice, it looks great and natural and I (a black person) am very glad you came across it. People in the comments just want her to understand that her hairstyle is something very significant in black culture. It's a way that we tame and style our hair because we have to, not for fun, because we have to.
    This is not a history lesson or a lesson on black hair. I just need you to know that that simple hairstyle you did has been helping black people for a long time. I also need you to know that I am glad that you have helped other people embrace such a unique technique.

      I agree with your comment but this is not something we "have to do to tame our hair" it is optional. you are implying that black people "need to tame" their hair because it in it's natural state it untamed. no. I do not need to do Bantu knots to manipulate my curls for it to be beautiful. it's beautiful with or without a defined curl, an Afro or a Bantu knot out. I do them for fun not because I need to. We don't NEED to do anything to our hair but keep it healthy and moisturized.

      Jessica Ray Although I understand your perception, I never said anything about beauty...I'm glad you were blessed and don't need to do anything to your hair, including using any styling products since your hair is already "tamed" according to your logic. If we do not manipulate our hair, it will remain tangled and break so will it really be healthy? OH, that's what I thought. Thank you for your comment and your opinion but really, i was unnecessary as I never said nor implying ANYTHING that you said. However, I do agree that black hair in it's natural state, "tamed" or not, is beautiful. Never denied it, never will.

    I have been reading some of these ridiculous comments and I cannot believe how ignorant and racist they are! So what if this lady who wants to share with us how she twisted up her hair and made it into little buns to make it curly without heat didn't use the some words for a similar thing that some people who are black (and by the way many other cultures). Really people? This is the most single petty thing I have been privy to see on the internet. This lady is adorable and by the way my grandmother from Russia taught me how to do this when I was young and called them"pin-curls" cause you twist the hair and use a pin to keep it in place. My point is that the comments here are really mean. Wake up and smell some coffee! We all bleed red and appearantly twist the hair! I don't care about where it came from,what different folks call it,or ANY of this bs. What I want to know is...did you try it,did you get the same results as the sweet girl in the video and did you like the look? This is how people become racist. We ALL have hair and it's all a little bit different ranging between silver white to coal black, from very fine to super thick and short to long, from straight to curly. As women we ALWAYS want to look different if its straight we curl if it's curly we straighten it. It's not got a damn thing to do with the color of the skin underneath it. Don't spread hate. Don't be petty. It would have been a nice educational thing just to point out that some cultures do this and call it Bantu knots, but THAT is as far as the conversation needed to go. You can not be equal and better than. You can not be the same as and constantly point out differences. We all know that we are ALL different, I think we need to focus on how we are alike and built on our common strengths. We need to stop being black people,white people,asian people and be human people. ... drops mike..

      Sunshine Baker, first of all, straightening your hair IS NOT only for people like ”us”. Literally, silk pressing just helps people manage their hair better and some people just like it. Whites do not own straight hair. People most Asians have naturally straight hair too. I do admit curls aren't only for African Americans but there are some hairstyles that are literally made for their hair texture. Nobody owns straight hair. Just saying.

    I'd do this with just two buns when I was a little girl, and now I do a sort of mix between a French braid and a rope braid on each side and wrap them into buns behind my ears. Gives rather mermaid-y hair, I can't do more for extra curliness though. I'm envious of all you ladies who can sleep with loads of bantu knots, the effect is beautiful!

    I get tired of reading or seeing ignorant comments. First off Bantu Knots are not a American Black culture it'd a African style. I hear Africans say all the time how black ppl think they own or started everything. FYI, BANTU KNOTTING was done by all women in America. That's how they curled their hair before the first Black woman Madam C. J Walker made the curling iron. They Bantu knotted and rolled their hair with paper bags or cloth they tore up... ppl its hair, why let what one ethnicity say about hairstyles Black ppl wear get to you...

    Is anyone else tired of ppl playing the "you stole from our culture" card? I am not racist by any means but it's ALWAYS ppl of colour(women in particular when it comes to fashion and beauty) who do this. How come we always have to recognize where something came from and if we don't we are stealing it BLAH nlah BLAH. If I wear big hoops and reg braids im stealing their look....but yet if a black woman straightens her hair or gets blonde hair extensions and wears what would be considered traditionally white no one feels the need to call it out and if we did we would be racist? How about not eberyone is going to know the origins of something and isn't being malicious by trying something. Or they come up with something themselves and think it's really cool- lets just let everyone be beautiful and STOP bringing each other down...just an idea

    • @brooklyn2655
      @brooklyn2655 8 лет назад +7

      because, it's their culture. this isn't that hard to understand. having blonde and straight hair is not part of a white persons culture. when you use something from someone else's culture for a fashion statement or for your 'aesthetic' then that is incredibly offensive and so fucking ignorant.

    • @laurajones6469
      @laurajones6469 8 лет назад +33

      But there are lots of other cultures who use braids not just black culture. It just seems like there are many more serious issues that need to be brought to light rather than people bitching and complaining about someone braiding their hair or using another cultures hairstyle and people losing their shit because it's being "stolen". This is JUST my opinion though.

      Like In the grand scheme of things ppl are dying and being murdered and wars are going on RIGHT NOW and yet ppl are so bust up over the fact she didn't know they were called Bantu knots. It wouldn't have made a diff though If she had called them the correct name she still would be told she's not black and shouldmt be rocking Bantu knots as she's not black

      +brooklyn ayy African American people simply are never born with blonde hair (unless they're mixed) so it's technically a whit people thing since they're the only race who can be born with blonde hair.

    Ladies with semi-curly hair or wavy hair, I wouldn't recommend doing this. When I woke up, I could hardly take the little buns out, like they literally just got stuck, that for a moment I thought my 20 buns on my head were never coming off! It tangled my hair to the extreme! But it defenitely looks good on straight hair because it's more silky and smooth (:

    Love them, I just started doing headless curls myself, I have baby fine hair, but I have a lot of hair, and it's mixed, curly around my face, wavy 80% and bone straight like 3 fingers in the back, yup a complete mess, so this method is becoming my go to since in not damaging my hair with ago the heart.
    My question is what did you use to brush it out, it looked great, I've been afraid to brush it because I thought I would look like a poodle, but your curls look natural and beautiful.

      "Get over it." White people's favorite phrase to say after they fuck over other races.
      Steal land from Indians and slaughter almost an entire race? "Get over it."
      Build that stolen country on the backs of other races (blacks, asiand, ect) "Get over it."
      Continues to live off a system that undermines non-whites. "Get over it."
      Continuously invades and bombs other countries. "Get over it."
      But let something happen to white people? "Never forget!" ie: Remember the Alamo... mmmmhmmmm Where the fuck is my tea?

    • @bikerbaker1350
      @bikerbaker1350 9 лет назад +8

      LauraKat666 you are right here what does it matter it isn't like she is going on national tv and earning rewards for creating this amazing new technique... Grow up it is a youtube video and thingatchu what the hell 'white people's favourate thing to say' you can't use an entire history and culture against one individual i mean it's not like she was actually there and it was her fault And her idea? So i'm going to use "OUR" favourate phrase 'get over it'
      Btw you were saying about undermineing anyone who isn't white but isn't that exactly what you are doing being a starioytypical twat towards white people
      It's a great method no matter where it came from so thank you for uploading it

    • @korykent5645
      @korykent5645 9 лет назад +2

      LauraKat666 Imagine: 20 years later, white women are popularizing their "little buns" technique and everyone is praising the whites for this beautiful sexy hairstyle then when black women are wearing their knots, we're back at square 1 where black women are just "trying to be white" like the whole relaxers and weaves deal. That's the implication and THAT'S why we don't get over it. It's not JUST a hair issue. Think a little bigger, if you're capable.

    • @BaybieKiss
      @BaybieKiss 9 лет назад +1

      thingatchu can't make every white person responsible for the past I wasn't even alive then so it is wrong of you to even say that because i have not done that. I have a lot of respect for black people how strong they are from what iv learn in history etc but shit like this coming from you is getting old now, being labelled a racist automatically because of skin colour is also racism.

      These aren't pin curls at all. And yes, the name matters because African Americans never get credit for anything we've created. We didn't get credit for the toilet, the drum, and a bunch of other things. Why are you guys getting so offended that it's from Africa? There's a braid called the Dutch braid, and nobody is getting on anybody's case if they correct someone who is calling it the wrong name.

    I have naturally curly hair and this works great for curly hair too. Sometimes I need to braid it to keep it healthy as it dries so it doesn’t end up frizzy and flat. I take my braid out the next day and it’s still damp, then I add more product with wetted hands and gently work it in. It air dries and has a great curl pattern then if I’d styled it straight out of the shower.

Stop acting fucking stupid natural hair is a term used by black/mixed black women to refer to our Afro textured hair that y'all don't have. Yes some one not black can have curly hair but it's not Afro texture.

    My hair is exactly like yours! It's really hard to curl, or basically do anything with or it will fall right out in a matter of minutes! I am going to check it out tonight to see how it works!

    Ok I'm not that uptight and I think the hair came out really cute but I will say this, the style that was used to create those curls is called bantu knots. even though you might not have known that, when you go on camera to present the technique to others I think it's only right that you at least use the correct name. no you do not have to do a whole rundown of the origin it's just that a lot of people who are just finding out about it may think this is new ( and it's kinda true because it's new to YOU). even if they still think it's new they'll be calling them by their correct name.

    What texturizer is she using? I did this with sections, and slept with it overnight. It only created loose beachy waves, and they only stayed in for 30 minutes.

    • @ChloeAH

      8 sections. I'm gonna try 12

    This whole comment section is mainly butthurt people, i never knew a hair tutorial belonged to a entire race and nobody else could do it, it's just a way to get hair curly with no heat, wtf is wrong with people!! Everything has to be about race with some people! I came here to watch how she got her hair this curly, why not just enjoy the video? Or are people just salty cus she has so many views?

      I noticed I'm the video she said comb them out but I didn't actually see her comb the curls. I have naturaly curly hair and my first thought was "she is going to find the curls and just make a ton a frizz." Separate with oiled fingers yes but do not comb. I tried this some years ago but I did it on wet hair 🤦‍♀️ so my hair didn't dry for HOURS LOL I got I patient and gave up on these.

    When I was a little girl my grandma did pin curls in my hair before bed. It was the only way she ever curled her hair. These really add some nice twist. Now that my hair is butt length I think I'm going to have to try these! Thanks!

    You can use tiny elastics hair ties instead of Bobby pins too. Same result! Great work!
