    The parallel shoulders is what gives the cable away every time. It's as if no producer in Hollywood has ever hung from one arm so they think they can get away with the shitty cables. Meanwhile we all instinctively see that something is wrong.
    So what's the fix? Have your actor on a cable but only to relieve some of the weight. Make them do the thing for real as close to reality as possible.
    Linda doing real pullups in terminator 2 was a breath of fresh air back in the day. We don't get a lot of those anymore.

      What about a wire on one side?

    • @Jason_Bryant
      @Jason_Bryant 9 месяцев назад +4

      It all comes down to time and money. They would have to spend more time researching what this actually looks like, training the actress how to fake it, improving their rigging system to lower her enough to get both shoulders right, improving their rigging so that it can move in arcs instead of straight lines, etc.
      This movie was reported to have a $15 million dollar budget, which is really not much for this kind of thing. Honestly, it looks better than I'd expect for that kind of budget.

      To be fair doing pull ups is 1,000 times easier than scaling monkey bars using one arm. If you need to be held by wires to do pull ups in a movie scene you have a seriously weak upper body.

      ,,buff as hell'' and ,,fit enough'' made me giggle sorry but thats funny as hell. This lady is an actor, she is relativly fit but thats all you can tell from just looking at her physique. Google her workouts that were prep-ing her for the movie its just standard fitness theres no insane feats of strenght and athleticm looking like you could maybe do something is totaly different from the ability to actualy do it. Theres no way in her she would even get to the point of the big swing 2.3 meters it would just be puff into the ground/water on the first jump attempt from the ladder.

  • @cosmomontanaro5759
    @cosmomontanaro5759 9 месяцев назад +9

    To be fair to the game, the woman would have weighed like 120 lbs or less, and that's monumentally easier to swing than 210 lbs. Strength in humans doesn't scale very well and those extra lbs don't add enough strength to justify the extra weight. Hence why most professional dancers and acrobats weigh so little.

  • @CamQuish

    Yay, another Anton "John Wig" Fomenko video where you flash a gravity defying move ! I was like Matt, the movie makes it look so strange I didn't think it was doable either. Crazy how much knowing a move is possible changes everything.

  • @Solemn_Kaizoku

    The 210lb guy doing this was even more impressive! I can respect Brett backing down though, as this stunt was a shoulder injury waiting to happen.

  • @teksight9714
    @teksight9714 9 месяцев назад +16

    The guy who weighed 210 lbs being able to swing from one are like that is amazing. I would think his arm would look more jacked, but I guess it's not the size of the muscle but the density of the muscle fibers and the strength of the ligaments, tendons, and joints. When I weighed 200lbs I was always getting serious tennis and golfer's elbow on doing pullups or chinups and trying monkey bars, and that was with two arms. The more weight I lost the fewer times I would injure myself. Amazing demonstration.

    Anton, your ability to stop the motion of your body is just as impressive as your ability to move. IYKYK. So impressive to see you stop your momentum between moves. You basically stop and then choose how much momentum to add on for the next move. So much more control to do that.

  • @ultigirlinCO
    @ultigirlinCO 10 месяцев назад +14

    My guess is that she actually did this but with two arms. They just CGI'd in the bad arm, which is why her center of gravity is off for one arm movement. But the full body engagements makes me think this was not all just wires and pulleys to move her from bar to bar. Except the big jump. She likely needed more momentum to swing the big jump so the pulleys did the work there.

    I think the stunt double for that actress was Haley Wright, and she was a gymnast, and was in cirque du soleil. I don't know how this was done though, maybe done but with a wire and harness on, which is why her shoulders were level.

    • @ultigirlinCO
      @ultigirlinCO 10 месяцев назад

      That's fair. Straight up, the center of gravity will be different if swinging from one arm, which is why her shoulders should not be parallel.
      But they could have had her arm in a green sleeve and then CGI'd in the "bad arm", which is why we see so much actual muscle engagement but not the correct anatomical position or center of gravity.

    When calculating the distances between bars, you based them on the height of the actress, who is 5'3" so this distance is two feet, and this distance is 7 feet, etc. But you are definitely taller than she is, so your wingspan is longer. You should have laid out your course relative to your body length: she had to swing one and a half times her body length; you were swinging just a little over one of yours. Still impressive, though!

    I like how they never outright say it's a bad movie, but rather find gentle ways to mock it in a most endearing manner, like you would make fun of a little bro when he's being pretentious
