I was born a Metal Head. I just didn't know it until my uncle was playing Black Sabbath's first album "Black Sabbath". That was in 1970 when the album was released; I was three years old. I vaguely remember jumping around to Black Sabbath at that age in my uncle's house. My family would tell me about the day I heard Black Sabbath the first time and that I was hooked. Growing up, I was all about Metal in all it's forms. Although I do listen to Classical music among other genres; Punk, Grunge, Hard Rock, Humor Core, Shock Rock, Grind Core, etc., etc.. Even Country (Pre 1995. after that it went too pop and no longer had real meaning). I do enjoy Classical because a lot of Metal is Classically inspired.
I have been to countless concerts. I have watched bands grow from their infancy at clubs, events, back yard parties, and even from their garages. I have listened to, watched, met and even hung out with so many that I could not even begin to list them all. There were so many great bands that were never signed or even put out a self release. I wish I had all their music in my collection as well. The 80's was nuts.
I am now 57 years old.
To this day, when it comes down to my primary musical tastes, I look at it like this... When I turn on my music, if it causes everyone within earshot to cry, scream and run to cower in a corner or under a rock, then that is my kind of music... The heavier, the better.

This video would be true if we were in the 2000-2010 era, now the "muh metalhead gatekeeper, metalhead elitist, metalheads hate each other" stereotype is not true anymore, i don't want to look like the "not every scotsman" guy, it's just a fact, and this stereotype is becoming boring, there are music genres like Punk where people are way more Gatekeeper

I agree with most of those, and am guilty of many of those stereotypes. The one thing I would argue is most metal heads not only listen to other kinds of music, they have BETTER tastes in other kinds of music! Metal fans are music fanatics first, metal is the gateway to this, and we tend to enjoy some of the better 90s stuff like Portishead or Mazzy Star, weird avante garde shit like the Goblin soundtrack and Tangerine Dream, and folk music like Sandy Denny and Townes Van Zandt.
Also non-metal made by metal heads is almost always top notch, be it mid-era Ulver, This Empty Flow, or Opeth's Damnation...what was that about metal heads explaining things again?

    • @pietrayday9915
      @pietrayday9915 6 месяцев назад

I think there's a Trvu Metal Stereotype they forgot about metalheads arguing over EVERYTHING, and I want to disagree with you, but... well, damn it, I've got most of the same stuff in my music collection, Portishead, Mazzy Starr, Goblin soundtracks, Tangerine Dream, Ulver.... So, let's just pretend I'm saying "Dude, Opeth isn't metal!" or something :D

Haha true, my reasoning for listening to metal was that it's the educated but rebellious music, basically a "I'm smart but I'm also cool" statement. As much as there was truth in it, it definitely was a facade for my insecure self.
Now I'm in my thirties, I listen mostly to brazilian, cuban and afro/fusion/jazz music, metal is still the backbone of my musical journey, and I can tell you, it's not about the genre. There can be more similarities between a melancholic guajiran complaint and a screechy black metal balade, or between a vocoded popular rapper and a generic metalcore band than between two bands of the same sub-genre, like say... Behemoth and Marduk. (don't jump at me, it's hard to find a good example of bands that look similar, and are to an extend, but are still very different, it's just the first fitting one I thought of)

But metal is really the best genre of music.🥰 The most creative and passionate. The most diverse in terms of themes for songs. Metal is educational - one Sabaton album is equivalent to five history lessons.😂 To play metal, you have to really love it, because other genres have a much bigger audience.

I am glad to be the only metalhead that does not follow any of the stereotypes 😅(al thou that is a very metal stereotyped sentence 😂).
I started listening Baroque and Classic, and I have listened jazz, blues, pop, salsa, folk (+others) since I was 13yo. However, Metal was the reason why I studied music. It has always been my main genre (you name any sub-genre, I listen to all of them). You won't find beers in my fridge. Do not smoke, drink occasionally, and respect other people's taste in music. I actually don't like to talk about Metal because I don't like to bother people with my loud taste AND, I actually think Shirts with Band's names are mid. 🤭

I became a Metalhead roughly at age 19. Before that I was a victim of fashion aka the crap that is being played on mainstream radio. In private I don't have a radio any longer for over 15 years now. But at work I am forced to listen to that BS being played on the radio there. So I can legitimately say, that Metal is the better music for me. This doesn't mean that it is objecitvely speaking the superior style in general. But for my personal taste: there is nothing that comes even close to Metal and Hard Rock. Though I love me some classic music once in a while and also some Epic Trailer Music like Two Steps from Hell. Anything besides these genres is just crap for me.

I can say that metal is the best because when I was discovering it I quite literally went through, clears throat, classic pop, rap, underground music, singer-songwriters, so called alternative music, classic rock a close second, boy bands, top 40, punk rock, pop punk, most of the cores, new metal, thrash metal, speed metal, power metal, death metal, a bit of techno, dance new wave, hard rock, classic country, southern pop, and finally classic metal where I came firmly to rest. Actually I keep bouncing back and forth between power metal and classic metal recently.

"Metalheads drink" - Well, duh, I'm not a camel. :D Oh, wait, you mean alcohol? Eh, rarely.
"Metalheads educate you" - Of course, we're humans too, we force others to know about our special interests. :P
"Metalheads are(n't) elitists" - Uhm. I hated techno, and "mulatós" (dunno it in english, like they do in parties after the wedding, etc), maybe hiphop too (ok, not even maybe :D ), but besides these... I always loved classical music, and '80s pop too for example. And of course, I hate techno, because that's not music, but noise. :P
"Metalheads have too much energy" - On concerts maybe, but tell me you do the same when you're hangover, or you have the food coma. :D
"Metalheads support artists" - Well... in Hungary, it is not punishable by law to download music for own usage. Just sayin'. I personally don't like physical copies of music/movies/etc, because they either lose quality because of the lot playing (vinyls, tapes, VCR, etc), or CDs just lose data in time.
"Metalheads don't like metalheads". - Right. Brothers and sisters are natural enemies. Like metalheads, and techno ppl. Or metalheads and rappers. Or metalheads and rnb fans. Or metalheads and other metalheads. Damn metalheads, they ruined metal. >:( But out of jokes: death fans vs black fans? xycore fans vs xy fans? Numetal fans vs everybody else? Hell, even blackmetal subgenre # 1fans vs blackmetal subgenre # 2 fans? :) Also, anybody is even just looking to my cats in a wrong way, they're a dead man walking. That's not a threat, that's a fact. ;)
"Metalheads are actually nice" - Idk how stereotype a thing is what nobody else knows, but yeah, It always made me smile how people in the night, out in the streets, after a party, are safer with two spike covered, black&white faced, satanist lyric screaming dudes than with an all-white covered bunch of guys, who just came out of the local technodisco club. :D
"...but socially awkward" - Even online they talk too much if they like something. Ugh. Metalheads, amiright...
"Metalheads know the lyrics" - fakest stereotype ever lol. :D
"Metalheads can't hear you" - omg, that tinnitus. I had it before (not because of the loud music, there was a problem with my ear by itself), luckily doctors helped me, I was about to go mad about it. That brought back memories. Not pleasent ones. :S
"Metalheads gotta have reasons." - I love the 14yo cap. :D I always listened to metal because it brought me to another world. I didn't hate society, I hated only the part what was around me, but I don't think they had anything to do with each other.
I love to give detailed responses to these lists, not that anybody would care, but oh well. ^^
